WWE 2009 - Bridging The Gap
WWE Monday Night Raw Preview, April 27th 2009
Jericho gets his shot
It has been a busy few weeks for Chris Jericho who after revealing the new Smackdown General Manager to be Ric Flair two weeks ago, Jericho then revealed Mick Foley as the new Raw General Manager at Backlash last night. But just like Flair before him, Foley pretty much denied Y2J’s request for a title match, instead deciding to ram good ol’ Mr. Socko down his throat. But it seems as though Foley has had a change of heart as WWE.COM has learned that Jericho will indeed receive a title match on this Monday’s historic draft. It will be Chris Jericho taking on the Intercontinental Champion, Rey Mysterio with the gold up for grabs!
United States Title on the line!
Mr. 305 successfully defended his US title in what turned out to be a rather quick contest at Backlash. In order to supplement the Intercontinental Title defence taking place on the same night, MVP will also defend his United States Championship against a man deemed to be a worthy competitor by both General Managers…Kofi Kingston! Can MVP hold onto the gold and what, if any, role will Ted DiBiase have to play? Find out this Monday night!
Raw vs. Smackdown
In an attempt to make Monday’s historic draft show even more historic, both Ric Flair and Mick Foley have agreed to a block buster main event pitting the first draftee’s of each brand, and a partner of their choosing, against each other in a one-off Raw vs. Smackdown tag team main event. Can the newly designated superstars of Raw reign supreme on their flagship show or will Friday Night’s newly acquired boys in blue pull off the away game upset?
Heartbreak for the Deadman
In part II of their modern classic, the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels went to war in their Wrestlemania rematch at Backlash. This time however, it was the Deadman who saw defeat. Despite the chaotic match between the two and the minor injuries sustained by both men, WWE.COM can exclusively reveal that the draft will include appearances from the Phenom and the Showstopper. Can the Kemper Arena contain both these larger than life legends?
Last night at Backlash, whilst their leader was victorious in his title bout, both Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes came up short in their individual quests for championship gold. The Viper was obviously not happy with this turn of events and one has to wonder what the WWE Champion will have in store for his cohorts this Monday night. Perhaps he will punish them or perhaps the young second generation superstars will take it upon themselves to prove their worth? Uneasy times follow for The Legacy.
After suffering defeat at the hands of John Cena last week on Raw, the Rated R Superstar redeemed himself by gaining the pinfall over Cena to keep the World Heavyweight Championship in his possession. With the title being exclusive property of Smackdown and with no World Title match announced as of yet, this could be the Ultimate Opportunist’s last appearance on Monday Night Raw. Will Edge leave with a bang?
Following his team’s victory at the PPV last night, Randy Orton continues his so far deadly reign as WWE Champion. Will a new challenger emerge for The Viper’s title or will Orton remained locked in the all encompassing war that has touched every corner of the WWE roster as of late? The repercussions of Legacy’s back to back defeats must not go unmentioned either. It seems that the Champion’s plate is full already. Will things get tipped over the edge as we go live, Monday night?
John Cena and Batista fell short in their quest to become champions in the block buster tag team main event at Backlash. Their interaction was tense. The match was intense. But who is to blame for this all star team’s loss? You can be sure that both Cena and Batista will have something to say on the matter. Find out what at the WWE Draft!
The recent duo of Jack Swagger and JBL are riding high after the former’s upset victory over The Undertaker on Smackdown a few weeks ago. Speaking exclusively to WWE.COM, JBL informed us that both he and Swagger will be in attendance at the draft and will speak on Swagger’s monumental victory. Could a rematch be in the cards? Here at WWE.COM, we don’t think either Swagger or JBL could be that foolish…could they?
The Money in the Bank briefcase has come to epitomise the recent troubles between its holder, CM Punk, and the World’s Largest Athlete, The Big show. The outcome of their match last night at Backlash saw Punk the victor. But ultimately it was Big Show who got the last laugh after a vicious assault in the backstage area later in the night. Despite the severe rib injuries sustained during the attack, CM Punk will be in attendance at the Kemper Arena come the draft. But so will Big Show. Has this feud finally been put to rest or is it only just beginning?
The wait is over. It’s time, once again, to shake things up in the WWE. The annual WWE Draft takes place tonight, live from Kansas City, MO and its set to be a good one. With two championships on the line, both World Champions along with a whole host of others set to appear and the fallout of Backlash on the cards, this week’s Raw will be one for the ages. Don’t miss it!
