Smackdown General Manager to be revealed this Friday!

Chris Jericho has made it his personal mission to discover the identity of the WWE’s two new GM’s. After announcing on Raw that he had made a breakthrough, the wrestling world should be in for a historic night come Friday as Jericho promises to reveal the new Smackdown General Manager. Be sure not to miss this historic event!

Double Trouble

Two huge matches have been added to the Backlash card. Rey Mysterio will defend his Intercontinental Championship against Cody Rhodes while United States Champion MVP will defend the gold against Ted DiBiase. Will the Legacy boys walk out of Backlash 10 pounds heavier?

The WWE Draft

Next week is a live three hour special as the WWE Draft returns to Monday Night Raw! The Draft promises to completely change the landscape of the WWE forever as a total overhaul of the rosters is set to occur. Only the carriers of the WWE and World Heavyweight Championship will know what brand they are heading up as we move into the show as those titles are brand specific, the WWE title for Raw and the WHC for Smackdown. Also, with two new General Managers and 10 picks occurring live on Raw, this is set to be a monumental show. It’s time to shake things up again!

Quote:
We have received word that another big return has been set for the Draft show next week on Raw. There are no real guesses to be had as to who it is going to be as the entire WWE roster has been called to Kansas City for the show. Vince McMahon is really expecting the Draft to completely revamp his product and give an overall new vibe and fresh feel to each of his brands. For this reason he is keeping his cards extremely close to his chest. It is likely that the superstars will only find out what brand they are going to be on when it happens live on air. Pwinsider is offering exclusive coverage of the draft including an immediate live discussion after the show next week so watch this space.

Internally, Randy Orton has been receiving heaps of praise for the current portrayal of his ‘Viper’ character. His segments have drawn strong numbers these past few weeks and Vince sees him as the absolute top heel in the company. One source believes that Orton is set to keep hold of his WWE title for a long time yet as McMahon wants him pushed and pushed hard on Raw.

In what has been a rather slow news week, word has it that after the draft WWE will conduct its yearly spring cleaning. Of course it is the superstars in the supplemental draft that have the most to worry about. More word on this next week.

Smackdown isn't finished yet. I got sidetracked while working on Backlash for a little bit. I aim to have it up for next week probably. The weekend at the earliest if I'm lucky lol.

WWE 2009 - Bridging The Gap

WWE Friday Night Smackdown Preview, April 24th 2009

'Under New Management'

Four for Four

In an absolutely HUGE main event set for Smackdown this week, The Legacy and Edge will team up to take on Rey Mysterio, MVP, Batista and John Cena in an 8 man tag team match! After an explosive Raw that saw all 8 men mix it up with each other throughout the show and the hostility between both sides, the Ford Center will be at boiling point come Friday night. Just who will get the upper hand as we head into Backlash this Sunday?

Second Chances

JBL and seemingly his newfound protégée, Jack Swagger, have found themselves embroiled in the epic rivalry between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. What his master couldn’t do on Raw, Swagger has vowed to do on Smackdown. In what will be one of the biggest matches of the young man’s career, will the All American American prove to the world that he has what it takes to hang with the best in the business? And what, if any role, will The Heartbreak Kid have to play in all of this? HBK unsuccessfully tried to interfere in the Deadman’s match against JBL this Monday night. Will he strike again or wait for the epic rematch at Backlash?

Boys in the Hood

Unified Tag Team Champions, The Miz and John Morrison have been on a verbal rampage since Wrestlemania with their so called Quest for Competition. This week the duo has challenged Cryme Tyme to a match in the hopes of striking another WWE tag team off their list. Will Cryme Tyme become number 2 or will the tag champions finally get what many believe they have coming to them?

SAVE_US_Y2J

Perhaps the biggest news of the week was Chris Jericho’s announcement on Raw, that he was going to reveal the Smackdown General Manager this Friday night! WWE.COM has exclusively learned that the new GM will be in attendance to usher in a new era for Smackdown in the WWE. The blue brand is set for an historic night. With the huge tag team main event match and the revelation of the new GM, this show is a must see for every WWE fan.

Also in action, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, CM Punk, The Big Show, Rey Mysterio and more! Tune in this Friday for an unmissable edition of Smackdown!

Confirmed

The Legacy & Edge vs. Rey Mysterio, MVP, Batista & John Cena

Jack Swagger vs. The Undertaker

The Miz & John Morrison vs. Cryme Tyme

No. But since Wrestlemania the rosters have been scrapped so superstars are allowed to appear on both shows until the Draft which takes place the Raw after Backlash. This Smackdown is the last full rostered show. Well, the draft will be too because everybody will be on it lol. From the next Smackdown though it will just be the Smackdown superstars etc.

I did it because I didn't want to just have an immediate draft right after Mania and because I wanted to tie up some of the loose ends. After Backlash I plan to start fresh with new rosters, new GM's and new shows.

Well this took forever to get finished but it's finally done. I hope not to take as long with Backlash although I probably will tbh lol. I'll see how this does regarding reviews/comments and then get the Backlash preview up seeing as I actually do have that done. Then the PPV itself hopefully.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown
April 24th 2009
Ford Center - Oklahoma City, OK

‘Under New Management’

Tonight’s show opens with a video package recapping all the big events from Raw; The Legacy picking up a huge win in the 6 man tag and of course, John Cena beating Edge in the main event. From this point the focus shifts to recap Jericho’s promo and his promise to reveal the new Smackdown General Manager. Some of the previous GM’s in WWE history flash one by one quickly across the screen – Bischoff, Stephanie McMahon, William Regal, Paul Heyman and even Vince McMahon himself until the video package ends with a dramatic question mark floating over a black screen.

**PYRO**

**PYRO**

After the pyro officially opens the show we are straight to the commentator’s desk where Michael Cole and JR are practically buzzing with excitement.

Cole: My God can you believe it? The first of the WWE’s two new General Manager’s to be revealed tonight, in your home state JR!

JR: Oklahoma City is ready to make history tonight. The rumors have been swirling, various names have been thrown into the hat but the fact remains that nobody but Chris Jericho knows who the new Smcakdown GM really is.

Cole: Until later tonight of course!

JR: You got that right. As if this show wasn’t historic enough, all the major players from this hectic feud that has encompassed the WWE since Wrestlemania will collide in a HUGE 8 man tag team main event. Rhodes. DiBiase. Orton. Edge. Cena. MVP. Mysterio and Batista. They’re all here and they’re all spoiling for a fight. As we head into Backlash this Sunday you can bet your ass that it’s all going to go down here tonight on Friday Night Smackdown!

**GONG**

Suddenly all the lights go out and the fans ERUPT at the familiar sound.

**GONG**

**GRAVEYARD SYMPHONY**

The legendary Undertaker is first out of the blocks to a monstrous pop as he slowly makes his way to the ring exuding confidence. JR and Cole run over HBK’s attempted run in on Raw that failed miserably. They focus on how Taker glared at Shawn as he lifted JBL into the air and then made the cover. Loud UN-DER-TAKER chants start to fill the arena while Taker stands in the center of the ring and looks out into the sea of people.

**GET ON YOUR KNEES**

All eyes turn back to the ramp where the All American American, Jack Swagger cockily walks from behind the curtain accompanied by a suited JBL. The Wrestling God seems to be coaching Swagger as the duo walk down the ramp and Swagger climbs inside the ring. He stares across at the Deadman and the first flickers of nerves show in his eyes before the referee rings the bell and the opening match of the night is underway.

Match 1
The Undertaker vs. Jack Swagger w/JBL

Jack Swagger stunned the world by more than keeping up with the veteran Undertaker in the match and actually dominated the contest. Swagger even managed to hit his Gutwrench Powerbomb only for Taker to somehow get his foot on the bottom rope. Not a single soul was sitting down in the Ford Center as everybody was totally focused on the match and whether or not the young rookie could pull off a HUGE upset victory here.

With Swagger on the ground and Taker stalking him from behind, JBL climbed onto the apron and started yelling at the referee, immediately grabbing his attention. The noise inside the arena reached fever pitch as out of nowhere, HBK hopped the barricade and slid into the ring. Shawn nailed a sick SWEET CHIN MUSIC ON Taker before dragging the youngster on top of his opponent on Sunday and smiling ear to ear as the referee counted to three.

Winner – Jack Swagger

The Ford Center is visibly in shock at what just happened. As Swagger rolls out of the ring and celebrates, wide eyed, up the ramp with JBL, attention quickly turns to Shawn Michaels who is now standing over the fallen Undertaker. The reaction of the fans is mixed with some cheering and some booing what just occurred. Shawn lets a cocky grin spread across his face. He leans down and can be heard yelling, “I can play games too, Deadman! See you Sunday.” It is with this unbelievable shot that we head to the first commercial of the night.

COMMERCIAL

After a recap video of Jack Swagger’s shocking ‘victory’ over The Undertaker, the cameras move backstage to the man himself. Swagger still can’t believe it. “I beat The Undertaker! I BEAT THE UNDERTAKER!” He, along with JBL, celebrate all the way though the various corridors of the backstage area to the parking lot where JBL’s white limo is waiting. “You absolutely did, son and you know what? You did it for the United States, well done!” Swagger smiles at the man who is quickly becoming his mentor before both men hop into the long white car and it slowly drives off. However, just as it disappears from the shot, another limousine, this one black, rounds the corner and pulls into the spot just vacated by JBL. Nobody gets out but as the camera starts to pull away the license plate can be seen. It reads SDGM1. A huge pop filters out from inside the arena as JR and Cole start speculating like crazy. Could the new General Manager be inside?

**SOS**

We now return to the arena where Kofi Kingston is greeted with a great pop as he boom claps his way to the ring.

**I SPIT IN THE FACE, OF PEOPLE WHO DON’T WANT TO BE COOL**

The former tag team champion is accompanied to the ring by his brother Primo, fresh off a series of defeats at the hands of the new tag champions. Carlito seems determined to get things back on track as he hops through the ropes and right away takes it to Kingston.

Match 2
Kofi Kingston vs. Carlito w/Primo

Unfortunately for Carly, this just wasn’t his night and he once again fell victim to another loss at the hands of a perfectly delivered Trouble in Paradise. After the match while Kofi celebrated up the ramp, Carlito seemed to take his frustrations out on his brother and the two squabbled in the ring.

Winner – Kofi Kingston

Narrator: The time of the immortals has passed…

**Glimpses of Wrestlemania are shown in quick flashes**

Narrator: The victors have reveled in their glory

**Shots of CM Punk holding up the briefcase followed by Miz and Morrison with Tag Title Gold**

Narrator: But now….

**A collage of images start to flash across the screen getting quicker and quicker – Jericho after his victory, The Undertaker going 17-0, Edge sneaking to victory to retain the World Title**

Narrator: Comes…

**We see the events that occurred in the WWE Championship match and the tragedy inflicted on the McMahon’s and Triple H without actually seeing the perpetrator until…**

Narrator: THE BACKLASH!

**Finally an image of Randy Orton explodes onto the screen. His expression is cold and his eyes lifeless as the image pulls further and further away to darkness**

Narrator: WWE Backlash, live on Pay Per View, Sunday April 26th!

We follow Kofi Kingston as he walks backstage to a room filled with other WWE superstars. Kofi stands at the back of the room and watches as Chris Jericho enters and walks onto the little platform in front of everybody. Jericho smiles cockily. “I have assembled you all here to witness history. At the top of the hour I will reveal the new General Manager of Smackdown and you all have a front row ticket to witness it happening. Enjoy the show,” Jericho smiles again as the camera pans around to show the very intrigued faces of the superstars and divas in the room.

COMMERCIAL

We get a wide shot of the Ford Center before once again, things head backstage but this time we are taken to Todd Grisham who is standing by with………………..John Cena! Most of the fans erupt for the CeNation Commander who appears happy after his big win Monday night. Todd asks for John’s thoughts on his victory over Edge on Raw. Cena’s smile gets bigger and he slaps Grisham on the shoulder. “You want to know my thoughts? Here are my thoughts, Todd. I said what I was going to do, I beat Edge, I beat the World Heavyweight Champion. Now surely that’s got to put me in line for his title, right? But the thing is, Backlash is just a few days away and there still isn’t a main event with either title on the line. But I’m not just going to stand by and let that happen. When the new GM gets here, whoever he or she may be, I’m going right to them and I’m sorting this whole thing out. I don’t care if it’s Edge or Orton that I face Sunday, I WILL take their title and I WILL walk out the next night on Raw, hold that belt high in the air and proudly say………….THE CHAMP IS HEREEEEEEE!” Cena gets another loud pop as he walks out of the shot all riled up and we head back to the arena.

**WELLLLLLLLLLLLLL IT’S THE BIG SHOW**

The 7ft giant of the WWE is greeted with severe boos which he visibly scoffs at as he makes his way to the ring. A loud YOU SUCK chant starts up which only seems to be pissing him off even more.

**OHHHHH YEAHHHHHH**

Show’s partner, Matt Hardy, is greeted with the same vigorous boos but Matt ignores them and joins his partner for the night in the ring. The two men stand side by side and await their opponents. Suddenly the rook blows off the arena at their arrival.

**NO MORE WORDS**

The Enigma, Jeff Hardy energetically bounces on to the stage area where he glares at his brother in the ring while rocking out to the pyro that shoots into the air behind him. Jeff bounces from side to side for a moment before sprinting to the ring and sliding inside, hopping onto the middle rope and taunting with the fans.

**THIS FIRE BURNS**

A pop that almost equals that of the Undertaker’s earlier tonight shakes the rafters for CM PUNK who swings his Money in the Bank briefcase in the air. He stands on the ramp for a few seconds before wasting no time and running to the ring to join his partner. A huge pop rings out as all four men square off, Jeff with his brother Matt and Punk with Show.

Match 3
Jeff Hardy & CM Punk vs. Matt Hardy & The Big Show

This was an explosive match with four very combustible elements. The finish came when Punk made the hot tag to Jeff who burst into the ring and hit a flurry of offense on his brother. But things soon broke down as Show got in the ring only to be herded out by the ref. As soon as Show stepped in, Punk got in too and started mouthing off also. With the referee now focusing on Punk, Show took advantage and knocked Jeff clean out with his huge right hand. Hardy stumbled back into the other Hardy and was instantly hit with the Twist of Fate. Matt eagerly made the cover while Show ran across the ring and clobbered Punk to the ground. The referee counted to 3 and the match was over.

Winner – Matt Hardy & CM Punk

The winning team celebrated just outside the ring as the referee tended to an out cold Jeff Hardy. Punk finally made his way back into the ring and stood holding his head. Big Show smiled and laughed on the outside while holding up his fist. “One punch is all it takes, Punk! One punch!” JR and Cole hype the crap out of both matches come Sunday, Punk versus Show and Matt and Jeff inside a Steel Cage!

**A black screen appears as two thunderous lightning bolts, one red and one blue appear at either side of the screen.**

Narrator: The landscape…

**The thunder bolts start to gain more power, buzzing and zapping around as they grow in size.**

Narrator: Is about…

**The bolts grow even bigger and are now going crazy on their respective side of the screen. Flashing images of WWE Superstars start to zip all over the place.**

Narrator: To change…

**Suddenly the two bolts burst from each side of the screen and ram right into one another in a great blue and red explosion. The WWE Draft logo erupts from the middle.**

Vince McMahon Voiceover: It’s time to shake things up again!

Narrator: The WWE Draft! A 3 hour special of Monday Night Raw, LIVE, April 27th at 9/8ct on USA!

COMMERCIAL

We are back from the break to see Zack Ryder standing alone somewhere backstage. Zack inspects his fist and then smiles, raising it up and pumping it into the air. “This is Zack Ryder of the WWE, fist pumping in an empty hallway. Woo, woo, woo, you kno………..” He suddenly stops talking and immediately drops his hand as a gust of wind fills the air and The Hurricane flies into the shot to an amused pop from the fans. “Citizen Ryder!” Hurricane looks him up and down while shaking his head. “It appears that you are ‘fist pumping’ in an empty hallway………………………………….what’s up wit dat?” Another pop rings out as Ryder frowns and turns to face the other man. “Hurricane, you’re talking to Long Island Iced Z, bro! That’s what’s up!” This time Hurricane frowns and is about to speak when he stops suddenly and starts looking all around him. “You hear that? This will have to wait until later Long Island Iced Z. My Hurri-powers detect that I am needed elsewhere. Until next time, Citizen Ryder!” With another gust of wind Hurricane flies out of the shot leaving Ryder standing there confused and the majority of fans chuckling at the strange exchange.

**BREAK THE WALLS DOWN**

A surprising yet small pop can be heard, as well as the usual boos, for Chris Jericho as he saunters to the ring once again decked out in a pristine suit. Jericho is all smiles and is clearly very pleased with himself. The reason for that is green as grass. He steps inside the ring and smiles out to the sea of fans packing the Ford Center tonight.

Jericho: I know something you don’t know!

Y2J teases the fans as the boos start to pile in, everybody wanting to know who the new GM is.

Jericho: Oh that’s right. Just like I always do, I made a goal and I accomplished it which is something none of you hypocrites can ever do! And boy, have I outdone myself this time.

He glances at his watch for a second and the nods his head with a smile.

Jericho: It’s almost ten pm ladies and gentlemen and while I could make you all wait, I want some answers from our new General Manager. So………….without further ado………….I, Chris Jericho can reveal to you all that the NEW Smackdown General Manager is………………………………………………..

**WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO**

The Ford Center GOES ABSOLUTELY CRAZY for The Nature Boy RIC FLAIR!!!! Every person is on their feet for the legendary 16 time Worlds Champion as he struts to the ring, shaking hands with the fans on the way down. Flair climbs inside and can only look on in amazement as a huge chorus of WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO’s ring around the arena constantly for at least a good two minutes, the fans not letting up enough to let anybody speak. He bows all around him, showing his love for those showing respect to him before Jericho has clearly seen enough and buts in.

Jericho: That’s enough! Enough!

The display of affection for Flair turns sour as the fans begin to pour heat all over Jericho for breaking things up.

Jericho: It makes me sick the way these people revere you like a God, Flair.

Flair: Just you hold on a second! This is my official return to the WWE. I am the new Smackdown General Manager. These people are showing their love and respect for the Nature Boy and you think you’re going to tell them to stop? No, no, no, no, NO! You’re talking to the jet flyin’, limousine rydin’, kiss stealin’, wheelin’ dealin’ son…..of….a…..gun RIC FLAIR, woooooooooooooooo!

Huge pop for Flair while Jericho just scowls.

Flair: And you had better know your place, son!

Jericho: My place? I guess my place was embarrassing you and your other Legend buddies at Wrestlemania, huh? Is that my place? Listen to me Flair, I took it upon myself to find out who you were because without a General Manager, people start taking things into their own hands and like I said before, as an honest man I can’t stand for that. Since I’ve got you out here and since I called you here in the first place, I’m demanding that I receive a title shot at Backlash, right now.

More boos for Jericho while Flair looks contemplative. The two stare each other down for a few moments until……

**MY TIME IS NOW**

Once again the roof blows off the Ford Center for the one and only John Cena who sprints to the ring. The reaction from the fans seems to be around an 85-25 split with the majority in favor of Cena. John grabs a mic and then happily shakes Flair’s hand to a great pop. Jericho frowns in the background.

Jericho: What the hell are you doing out here, Cena?

Cena: What am I doing out here? Well, I think I just heard you say that you are demanding a title shot for Backlash and, I mean, I hate to break it to you Chris but if anybody is getting a title shot this Sunday it’s me.

Cena turns to Flair and starts to plead his case.

Cena: I don’t know if you were watching Raw on Monday, Ric but…..

Flair: I was.

Cena: Great, then you will have seen that I beat Edge in the main event. He made the challenge and I beat him. That’s got to make me the number one contender and since we don’t have a main event set for Sunday, how about you make it John Cena versus Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship!

Big pop for this suggestion.

Jericho: No, no, no, Cena! I’ve seen you do this a million times before, worm your way into championship matches because these people cheer for it. I don’t care what these people want. I am the man who brought you here, Ric and if anybody deserves a shot, it’s me!

Flair: Wow, wow, wow, hold up here guys!

**YOU THINK YOU KNOW ME**

All three men turn to the ramp to see a furious Edge. The fans boo the hell out of the World Heavyweight Champion who angrily climbs into the ring and shakes his head.

Edge: You’re really going to listen to this, huh Flair? You’re going to listen to this crap?

Edge pulls on his hair as he paces around the ring to a barrage of heat before stopping in front of Cena.

Edge: The only reason you beat me on Raw is because of Orton and his stupid Legacy! Why the hell isn’t he getting issued challenges here, huh? Why is everybody coming after me? If I have to defend my title at Backlash then so should……

**I HEAR VOICES**

Things are quickly breaking down here as the WWE Champion walks down the ramp to enormous heat. Orton is without his cohorts this time. He stares at each man in the ring for a few seconds just soaking in the heat before speaking.

Orton: So should what? So should I? I’ll tell you why nobody is out here making challenges to me, Edge. It’s because they’re afraid. They’re afraid of what could happen to them if they step inside this ring with me.

The fans continue to boo when suddenly the boos switch to cheers as Cena throws off his hat and pulls of his shirt to a big pop. He gets right in Orton’s face.

Cena: Do I look like I’m afraid to you, Randy? I’ll say it right now, if I can’t get him then I’ll happily take your title instead.

Orton turns to the side and clenches his jaw in anger as the tension begins to rise amongst all parties involved until Flair steps in and pushes the two men apart.

Flair: This is starting to get out of hand here.

**I WALK ALONE**

Flair can be seen shaking his head as a HUGE pop erupts for the Animal. Big Dave doesn’t look amused at all as he steps into the already very crowded ring and glares all around him.

Batista: First of all………

He walks over and pulls his old friend into a hug which garners a nice pop.

Batista: Welcome back, Ric.

Flair: Thanks, Dave.

Batista pulls out of the hug and turns to face the other men in the ring. He half smiles and shakes his head.

Batista: You guys seriously thought you were going to have this little party without me? I don’t think so. Since everybody is out here making claims and issuing challenges, I’m staking a claim to both the World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Championship and I’m issuing a challenge to anybody in this ring who thinks they can stop me!

Dave picks up a defensive stance as he glares at Edge, then Orton, then Cena and then Jericho until he is patted on the shoulder by Flair.

Flair: I think everybody just needs to calm down here. Now, I have been watching both Raw and Smackdown since Wrestlemania and I’ve seen what’s been going on between you all. I may or may not have the authority to do this but I’m doing it anyway! This Sunday we WILL have a main event match and it will involve four of the men in this ring.

He turns to Jericho and shrugs.

Flair: I’m sorry, Chris but you’ve been out of action for the past three weeks. I can’t put you in contention for a title when you haven’t been active while the others have. For that reason, you’re out.

The fans pop big time for Jericho’s non-inclusion while Jericho fumes. He gets right up in the other man’s face and glares.

Jericho: I should have known. I do a service for this company and how do I get repaid? With nothing. We’ll see about your little main event here, Ric. You see, just like I revealed the identity of you, the Smackdown General Manager, I’m going to do exactly the same thing at Backlash and reveal the new Raw General Manager too. Oh yeah, I know who it is and when they hear about this miscarriage of justice I’m confident that we’ll have a new main event on our hands.

The other five men in the ring stare at Jericho curiously while he simply smiles at them and starts heading up the ramp. On commentary JR and Cole are speculating like crazy again over who the Raw GM could be and also what the main event is going to be.

Flair: Alright. Now that that’s out of the way, I’ve thought about it and I think I’ve come up with a way to make this fair for all of you. The main event of Backlash will see John Cena…………………

Cena smiles while Edge looks angry and Batista looks pissed. Orton looks indifferent.

Flair:………………………team up with Batista……………..

A surprised pop rings out as Cena’s smile drops and they all look on confused.

Flair:…………………to take on the team of Randy Orton and Edge with BOTH World Titles on the line. John or Dave, if either of you pin Edge or Orton, then you will win that person’s title and the other will go to your teammate. But if Orton or Edge pin one of you then the match is over and they retain their titles. Good luck on Sunday!

Flair tips his head at each man and silently slips out of the ring while Cena, Orton, Batista and Edge stand there staring holes through each other.

JR: My God what a main event! Cena hates Orton, Orton hates Cena, Cena hates Edge, Edge hates Cena, Orton hates Batista, Batista hates Orton, Edge hates Batista, Batista hates Edge not to mention that Cena and Batista aren’t the best of friends and Edge and Orton aren’t on each other’s Christmas list!

Cole: The new General Manager has made his first decision and it is an absolute bombshell. An unprecedented World Title tag team main event pitting Orton and Edge against Cena and Batista!
JR: Not one of them looks happy about the decision. Oh this is going to be great, this is going to be GREAT!

COMMERCIAL

We are back from commercial and right into a somewhat lengthy recap of what went down before the break. It ends with the announcement of the Backlash main event while JR and Cole go nuts over it on commentary again. After a minute or so, JR finally calms down and introduces the video package that is about to play. “Next Monday night is the WWE Draft but it’s not only the current superstars and divas that will be in attendance. WWE has signed an influx of fresh new talent, some of which will make their debut on Raw. You are about to be introduced to these young men who along with some of the already young talent on the roster, will hopefully carry this company into the future.”

We now move to what appears to be the new GM Ric Flair’s office. The camera pans back to reveal that he is joined by the men highlighted in the video promo we just saw – Sheamus, Barrett, Ryder, Ziggler, McIntyre, Bourne, Del Rio and Riley. Flair talks about the video package and about the fact that come Monday on Raw, the next generation of WWE superstars will leave their mark. He only hopes that Smackdown will draft them all!

**YO! YO! YO! SHAD GASPARD AND JTG….ITS CRYME TYME**

The Cryme Tyme Boys hit the stage to a great reaction from the Oklahoma fans as they are set for tag team action against the Champions. Shad and JTG interact with a few people along the ramp on their way to the ring.

**THIS AINT NO MAKE BELIEVE**

A resounding chorus of boos greet the Unified Tag Team Champs as they walk their usual cocky selves to the ring. Both men taunt their opponents for the night with Miz holding out his palm and checking it off with the other. Can they scratch Cryme Tyme off their list?

Match 4
The Miz & John Morrison vs. Cryme Tyme

Given their recent antics, the fans were all over Miz and Morrison and dearly dying for Cryme Tyme to put them in their place. And that’s exactly what happened. With Morrison set to hit some Starship Pain on JTG in his team’s corner, the corner closest to the announcer’s desk, he suddenly pulled up and immediately started pointing and complaining. Over by the timekeepers table, Shad had taken hold of the tag title belts and to a great pop, started running for the ramp. Miz instantly took off after him while Morrison moved to look on at the ropes on the other side of the ring, completely oblivious to JTG who was now back on his feet. The Shaman of Sexy turned around in obvious distress and was nailed with the SHOUT OUT. JTG made the cover while the fans counted 1, 2, 3 to a HUGE pop at the fact that somebody had finally bested the tag champions.

Winner – Cryme Tyme

Upon hearing the bell ring and his opponents music start up, Miz ran back to the ring and started throwing a fit once inside. He grabbed the ref and complained about the fact that Shad had stolen their titles. Meanwhile JTG had reunited with his partner at the top of the ramp and celebrated the victory.

?????: Hey! Up here everybody, up here!

New Smackdown GM, Ric Flair’s face appears on the titan tron to a nice loud pop.

Flair: I was just looking over the current match listing for Backlash this Sunday when I realized that we don’t have a tag team title match.

Everybody in the building can smell what’s coming next and they all love it, well, everybody apart from Miz and Morrison of course.

Flair: That’s right, you guessed it! This Sunday we’re going to see Cryme Tyme take on The Miz and John Morrison for the WWE Unified Tag Team Championships, Woooooooooooo!

A huge cheer combined with the pissed off faces of the champs in the ring take us to commercial.

COMMERCIAL

We are back and straight into the GM’s office where Miz and Morrison are arguing as if their life depended on it to get out of the match on Sunday. Flair just holds his hand up mid rant and tells them tough luck, the match is on to which they both glare and leave the room. Flair smiles as he watches them leave until his smile suddenly drops and is replaced with a frown. The camera pulls back to reveal the WWE Champion flanked by Rhodes and DiBiase who are greeted with a loud chorus of boos. Orton starts to stare at the wall behind Flair as he speaks. “Of all the people they could appoint as the General Manager and they choose a pathetic washed up ‘legend’ like you.” Orton pulls his eyes away from the wall to stare right into Flair’s face. “You had better pray to God that I keep this title and that I stay on Raw because if I don’t………………………………..I’ll put you on the shelf just like your friend Triple H.” MEGA heat pours in from the arena for that remark which Orton just smirks at. “How is Hunter by the way? Nobody has heard from him in a while. I hope he’s not still in that coma…………………that would be…………just awful.” With a hard clench of his jaw, Orton gives one more lengthy stare before turning and exiting the room with his partners in tow leaving Flair standing there looking all sorts of pissed off.

From the GM’s office things now switch to a locker room housing Rey Mysterio, MVP and John Cena inside. They receive a huge pop and are talking amongst themselves when all the talking suddenly stops and Batista walks into the room. He instantly locks eyes with his tag partner for tonight and for Sunday as he walks over to join the other men. Batista and Cena just stare at each other until MVP steps in. “Guys, you got to put whatever this is to the side for now. We need to be on the same page tonight and you two need to be on the same page for Sunday, you hear me?” Both men nod their heads at the same time but still look tense as we fade into the Draft promo.

Match 5
Beth Phoenix vs. Melina

With Michelle McCool at ringside serving as the perfect distraction, it didn’t take much for the Glamazon to put the Women’s Champion away. When the match was over, McCool laid out the Champion again while Beth watched on from ringside, a smile on her face.

Winner – Beth Phoenix

From here we move to the announcer’s table where JR and Cole give us a full rundown of the Backlash card.

WWE Women’s Championship………….Michelle McCool vs. Melina

Unified Tag Team Championships………….The Miz and John Morrison vs. Cryme Tyme

The Hardy Brothers collide inside a Steel Cage!

One last time, the epic rematch…………The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels

COMMERCIAL

**YOU THINK YOU KNOW ME**

The first of the eight participants in this huge matchup is welcomed by deafening boos as he stops mid-way down the ramp and raises his hands in the air determinedly while the pyro shoots off behind him. The World Heavyweight Champion slides into the ring with a small look of disgust on his face as his music comes to a stop.

**I HEAR VOICES**

The boos inside the arena only grow louder for the Legacy who slowly and methodically stroll to the ring. The WWE Champion is securely situated in the center of the three and look the opposite of his partner in the ring; confident. With all four men now standing side by side, all eyes turn to the ramp once again.

**BOOYAKA BOOYAKA**

The IC Champ hits the stage to a raucous pop. Rey looks all fired up and points to Cody in the ring while holding his title high in the air. He waits just on the outside for the rest of his partners.

**IM COMIN**

MVP receives a great pop as he forgoes his usual flashy entrance and instead marches to ringside to join Rey, his eyes locked onto DiBiase’s.

**MY TIME IS NOW**

The roof blows off the Ford Center once again for John Cena as he bounces excitedly down the ramp, talking smack to anybody in earshot on the way down. He glares at the four men inside the ring before glancing to either side of him. The other two men nod and to the sound of a great cheer, slide inside the ring and stand face to face with their opponents. There is a slight pause as everybody awaits the final participant.

**I WALK ALONE**

If Cena blew the roof off, Batista blew it even further as he roared onto the ramp. The pyro vigorously exploding behind him, matching the demeanor of the man himself who looks seriously fired the hell up. The Animal gets inside the ring and as his music comes to a stop the arena is filled with the loud and anxious cheers of the fans just begging them all to get it on!

Main Event
Edge & The Legacy vs. Rey Mysterio, MVP, John Cena & Batista

This epic encounter lived up to the hype and produced a modern TV classic. The climax came about with Cena and Rhodes in the ring, both men trying desperately to make the tag and win the match for their team. Rhodes barely made the tag to Ted DiBiase. Ted ran across the ring and with an inch to spare, prevented Cena from tagging out. The second generation superstar went to work on Cena, kicking and punching all over but made the mistake of throwing him against the ropes. Cena bounced off them, ran back, ducked the clothesline coming his way and ran right to his corner, making the tag to Rey Mysterio! The fans popped hard as Rey bounded into the ring and started hitting DiBiase from all angles. Hurricanrana! Front dropkick! Big splash from the top rope! Rey sent Ted careening into the ropes, setting him up perfectly for the 619. But just as he ran towards him……………….

He got landed with an RKO out of absolutely nowhere!

Suddenly everything started to break down.

Orton turned around into a Playmaker from MVP.

MVP got hit with the Cross Rhodes.

Cody walked into a Batista Bomb.

Batista got clobbered with the spear.

Edge got hit with an FU.

The Ford Center was alive with noise as Cena roared loudly before getting chucked over the top rope by Ted DiBiase, the only man still on his feet. Ted stalked Mysterio from behind, waiting and waiting until finally hitting the Dream Street and making the cover. The referee counted the three and DiBiase instantly leapt to his feet after scoring a HUGE win not only for his team but for himself too.

Winner – Edge & The Legacy

This week’s Smackdown came to a close with Rey lying beaten in the ring, MVP, Cena and Batista laid out on the outside, Edge looking on in the background while Orton, Rhodes and DiBiase held their arms high in the center of the ring. JR and Cole gave the final hard sell before the screen slowly faded to black.

I've had a busy week and have made practically no headway with Backlash. I'm still plugging away though. I'll stick the preview and predictions up maybe on Friday.

Friday Nights got the Nature Boy!

After weeks of speculation, the wait was over as Chris Jericho revealed 16 times Worlds Heavyweight Champion and WWE Hall of Famer, Ric Flair as the new Smackdown General Manager! Naitch strutted to the ring to a raucous chorus of Wooooooooooooooo’s from the WWE fans and made an instant impact as he named the main event for Backlash. What can Friday nights expect with Flair at the helm? And who will be the Nature Boy’s counterpart? Chris Jericho promises to reveal the identity of the Raw GM this Sunday and there’s only one way to find out who it is. Call your local cable subscriber now for details!

The Main Event

In an unprecedented move, both the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships will be up for grabs in the Backlash main event as the tag team of John Cena and Batista will face off against the current champions, Randy Orton and Edge. All four men have a tumultuous history with each other. Will that history come into play? Or can both sides hold it together to pull off the victory for their team? It’s the Backlash main event, live this Sunday only on Pay per View.

Ric Flair has been named the new General Manager of Smackdown. It is being reported that Flair was able to reach a deal with Vince that offered a little more than usual in order to get him to sign on the dotted line. At this time it isn’t known whether Flair will get physical as he has officially retired from in ring action. As for Raw, many names are still floating around with the most popular being Eric Bischoff. Apparently Bischoff has been in talks with the top brass for weeks now about coming back and resuming his position as head authority figure on the flagship show. Out of interest, other names that have been in contact with WWE over the past few weeks have been Kurt Angle and RVD.

The current tag team champs are receiving praise from everybody in the company for their current work. It is being reported that the ‘Quest for Competition’ idea came directly from the duo themselves and they seem very keen to reignite the tag team division. The angle has got over huge with the fans in the arena who simply detest Miz and Morrison and the TV numbers for their segments are starting to climb. If this keeps up, big things can be expected for the young tag team.

Triple H has not been on the road since Wrestlemania and is currently spending time at home with wife Stephanie McMahon and their children. It is not known when Hunter is expected back and given the stacked WWE roster right now, he isn’t exactly needed either.
The WWE Draft takes place next Monday. As previously reported, pwinsider will be providing full draft coverage with stories on all the top moves. Log on Monday night for more details.
