Re: The Official BTB Discussion Thread
I hate the idea of an eight-man tournament. It sucks. To me it always seems like the tournament is already over before it's even started. If you're going up do a KOTR tournament, do it right - go for 16, or even 32, if you start early enough.
As for how to use the pay per view, that all depends on how important you want the tournament to seem and whether or not you want the event to truly feel like a classic King of The Ring tournament. Personally I think the quarter finals, semi finals and final should all take place on the same night. The winner comes out looking much stronger because they have the ability to say they won it all on one night, which is a much better journey to go through than through several different shows.
I've got a King of the Ring tournament planned in my BTB, but I'm not sure how many matches I should put on PPV. My question is, should I have just the semis and the final on PPV, or the quarters, semis and final? Also, are the KOTR tournaments usually 16-man? That's what I've got planned, but I'm not too sure if its the right size. If anyone could fill me in on this, I'd be grateful.
I'm just about to kick off a King of the Ring tournament in my thread. I'm going for a 32 man tournament with two qualifying rounds to take place on Raw and SmackDown, meaning by the time I get to the actual show we'll be down to the final eight. So that's quarters, semis and final, meaning seven matches left for the show.
Tbh, it really depends on how much emphasis you want to place on the tournament. The old school approach was that the tournament dominated the PPV and other matches filled out the card, while towards the end of King of the Ring as a stand alone PPV, there were a lot more title matches and fueds on the show while the tournament was limited to just three matches (semis and final).
End of the day, it's up to you really. KING called it right, it's all about how strong you want the winner to look.
Yeah, I agree with KING & iMac. I have the exact same tournament coming up in my thread and originally, I had planned to do 16 but I thought since I have 8 shows + 4 Heats I have plenty of time to carry on current feuds but also to do the KOTR Tournament the way it should be done.

Well I think the only reason that there have only been 8 man KOTR Tournaments in the past few years is because they've taken place on Raw and not a PPV. I'm going to have one as well in my thread quite soon actually, and it is going to be on the first raw of 2012 so it is only going to be 8 men competing on that show, with qualifying matches beforehand. Mine is going to be right near the start of the RTWM so obviously it is important for the winner to look strong.
If a member were to start a BTB what are the parameters for the name of it? Can it be anything appropriate?
You can call it anything you want. Usually it will have the promotion you are booking and the time period in it, then usually some sort of phrase. But this phrase usually has something to do with the underlying theme of what you are trying to achieve.
As for the appropriateness... I don't know what you were meaning, but there are a couple of threads that have swearing in the title I've seen.
Just have a look at what everyone else has done and then try to think of something that would suit your thread. But it is totally up to you what you call it. Oh, and good luck
Long individual title reigns. How long do you guys think is too long for a BTB?
I know there's plenty of variables in that, but just want a general gauge on when people think they've seen enough of a champion.
Yes, Jericho should lose the belt at The Outer Limits.
I'm obsessed with long title reigns, it turns out. I think the biggest sign of faith in a worker is if you give him the belt and just let him run and run with it. Credibility in bunches, as long as (obviously) the guy isn't being booked into the ground every week then escaping with the title in the big match. In answer to your question, I don't think there IS a 'too long' in terms of number of days, I think there's a 'too long' in terms of character; if a guy has held the belt for X amount of time but hasn't really developed or he's run out of meaningful opponents for the title, maybe it's time to consider something different. Then again, I gauge everything by character development so I'm a little blinkered.

I think you practically answered your own question, plenty of variables. All depends on the character of said champion and what possible storylines you have lined up for them. Me personally, I really don't care how long somebody is champion as long as they're entertaining, evolving and have the stories set in place for their run to continue.
When I look at Bookers shows, I notice when the match is over their is a time count, ie.. (7:19, 14 minutes 23 seconds etc.), is that pretty much a need? Does it give better depth to the match? I'm writing my first Raw and am contemplating using one.
