Writing the Invasion isn't easy and it does take quite a while to figure out. I was in the same boat as you, I had ideas and even got as far as posting the thread but never got to the first show because I realized the ideas weren't all there. Happens to most, though.

In all honesty, the Invasion is probably the hardest angle/era to book sensibly, realistically and successfully. People might trash on how the WWF handled it at the time but it's only once you plan out a thread for it, begin planning and writing that you realise that it really is challenging to book. Lets say you start from Wrestlemania 17, these are the things you have to incorporate or at least think about -

The Austin Heel Turn
Vince McMahon
Shane McMahon
The Rock's revenge
Where does Triple H lie
What's Stephanie doing
When will they first invade
Who are they?
Are you going to include people who the WWF didn't sign in real life at the time - Sting, Goldberg, Ric Flair, NWO etc.
Will you include ECW, if so, how will you involve them
Are you going to push any WWF talent or just let them take a back seat - Jericho, Benoit, Angle, Regal etc.
How are you going to keep the tag team division relevant
The IC Championship
The European Championship
The Hardcore Championship
The Light Heavyweight Championship
The Women's Championship
The WCW World Heavyweight Championship
The United States Championship
The WCW Tag Team Championship
The Cruiserweight Championship
The ECW Championship
Who's going to be heel and face?
Are there going to be any huge heel/face turns, if so who, when, where and why?
Whens the story going to end?
Will there be a brand split afterwards- If so, who are the gms? who will go where?
Will all of the titles be unified - If so, who will win the unification matches
Will it last until Wrestlemania 18 - If so, whats that card going to look like and will that even be the final pay off?
Where's Eric Bischoff, if anywhere?
Is Paul Heyman going to play a role?
What about the Lower Midcard, which provide a vital role in the WWF - Crash Holly, Eddie Guerrero, Test, the APA, Right To Censor etc.
Linda McMahon, where is she?
Who are you going to push from the Invaders side
How are you going to push them
Title changes - who, when, where, why, how

And all of that isn't even scratching the surface of what you need to consider to successfully book the Invasion. I challenge anybody to think of a period of time, an angle or an era to book that is more creatively challenging to book in a logical and entertaining fashion.

I'm starting my first BTB on here. I did one for a little on another site, but other than that, pretty new to it.

The hardest part of booking the Invasion is making WCW seem like a real threat to the WWE roster. They couldn't use the likes of Goldberg, Sting and Steiner, so they had to focus on men like Booker T and DDP. They clearly felt they wouldn't be able to carry the brand and/or they just didn't want to put them over WWF guys. I always felt at least Big Show should have joined the Alliance considering his history. He's the type of guy you could easily book as a credible threat. Booker T should have held the WCW Title much longer than he did, having The Rock and Austin as champs most of the time hurt the angle.

Hey everyone, just a quick question... on a standard PPV, how long should you spend on the matches? Like time wise, how much of the PPV should be dedicated to the matches? If anyone is able to help that would be great.

Afternoon all. I started my first ever BTB several weeks ago, writing out the shows on my laptop and keeping them saved locally. I've planned out my storylines and matches through to Survivour Series, so I figured now is the time to go live and start putting them in here.

I posted my first few shows a couple of weeks ago, and a few people started reading but since then I appear to have lost my audience. Could someone spare a couple of minutes to take a look and tell me what I can improve on? Not so much content-wise, more presentation and aesthetics. I feel like my content is good, but my presentation isn't pulling people in.

I mean it might be the norm that folk read these things without leaving feedback (I'm guilty of this), but I wouldn't want to clog the forum with my BTB posts if no-one is reading!

WWE 2012-13: Change is coming.

Much-obliged.

this.

even though WCW was out of business, guys like Sting, Steiner, Goldberg, and a few other big names were still under contract. That is why guys like Steiner and Berg' came in only like a year after the InVasion.

I think they worked well with the best that they could have. plus to wait till 2003 or 2004 to do the storlyine when those WCW names were around, than they would have the problem where Rock/Austin and a few others who wer big on the WWF's side weren't that active anymore.

Plus the whole idea of the InVasion was to put new talent over and to push guys like Jericho, Benoit and Angle into the main event scene, if the SS team was built of Sting, Steiner and Goldberg instead of them, then they wouldn't ahve gotten the pushes that they had and would have stayed in the mid card.

And I think that Triple H would have swapped to WCW's side come the InVasion instead of Austin if he wasn't injured seeing as Steph was there and they were kayfabe married.

Default Re: The Official BTB Discussion Thread

I had a BTB planned a while ago where I was going to re-start the Invasion angle from the Survivor Series and take it all the way through to WrestleMania X8.

The WWF would still win the match against The Alliance at the Survivor Series, but the PPV would end with Shane McMahon announcing that he had sold his part of the Alliance (WCW) before the match, so that even if they lost, WCW wouldn't be part of the deal anyway. Shane would then reveal that if he could no longer fight against the WWF, he wanted to ensure someone else could. The lights go out, Shane has disappeared, Eric f*ckin' Bischoff is on the stage.

From there, it'd be done how it should've been done from the beginning, WCW vs. WWF, Bischoff vs. Vince. The Alliance would be dead, and Shane and Stephanie would be removed from TV. This is how the likes of Goldberg, Hogan and Sting would debut. Probably would've gone for the WWF Champion Stone Cold vs. the WCW Champion Goldberg at WrestleMania, Hogan vs. Rock, Sting vs. Taker and other matches - basically the entire card would be WWF vs. WCW.

But, as usual with a lot of my ideas, it didn't come to fruition.
