Re: The Official BTB Discussion Thread
I think that the pushing of new stars is purely down to a patience thing - as people have said. The fact is that most BTB's don't last past the first couple of shows and people either (a) stick with the norm, which can get pretty repetitive and boring, or (b) push new stars but far too quickly so it is completely unrealistic. One of my major gripes is when a BTB springs up (set a couple of years back) and immediately Christian is given the main event spot (usually against Edge!) at WrestleMania! Too quick, needed some build. It takes time to build somebody up and it needs foresight and planning. I'm always trying to think about how to build somebody new, I've got a plan in mind all the time of who is going to be a big star for me in 3/6 months time in my BTB. I'm just heading towards my 5th PPV with the Rumble and I know who is going to win my MiTB match so the build is on. But right now, my main events centre around the likes of Punk, Kane, Undertaker, Orton, Cena and Angle because they are the believable established stars right now. I have the intention of never repeating a feud on PPV (there might be more than one match on PPV but when it is done, it is done) so I'm going to have to build new stars. It takes some time to plan and then put in place - the quickest one to do for me was Wade Barrett because he was in Nexus when I started. He is now established as the WWE Champion. Next, I've built Kofi Kingston, slowly and surely, he is getting towards being a main event player - I think, from feedback I've got, that people believed Kofi could win my Vengeance main event. I've got the Royal Rumble to come next which is a great chance to build Kofi and a few other guys even more, I've started NXT to build some new names up as the winner gets a guaranteed title shot, Money in the Bank returns to WrestleMania, King of the Ring will return after that.
In conclusion, it needs time and planning. Something many BTB's will lack. I agree with the original idea that it would be nice to see BTB's without Cena, Orton, Punk and the usual guys winning. But I understand why early on it is necessary. GCB
