There has been talk on the tournament starting in August. The only problem with that is that in September school will start. The tournament can likely start next week.

Qualifying round is writing a backstory and then a match, just thought I'd give everyone who wants to sign up a heads up so they can work on their matches.

Get excited!

I'm interested in this. I entered one about 4 years ago and didn't do completely awful and I feel like my writing skills have improved greatly since so this'll be a nice test.

Re: The Official BTB Discussion Thread

I wrote backstories for both my matches in the King of BTB tourney last year, so that's not a problem. Helps to set the scene for the match, makes certain things in the match more poignant (i.e. if the backstory has Jack Swagger wrecking Evan Bourne's ankle with the Ankle Lock, Bourne targeting Swagger's ankle with his kicks in the match would make more sense story-wise, etc.)

Btw, if there's only a limited number of places, is it really wise for us to start on our matches now, especially if we're out when the sign-up thread goes up and we miss our chance? That happened to several people last year, like RatedRKO31 and Stoj if I remember correctly. If we've started/finished our matches then we don't actually get a chance to post them in the qualifying round, surely it's an exercise in futility for some? =/

EDIT: Also, if the thread isn't up yet, we don't know our limitations, you know, time-wise, gimmick matches or not, etc.

Re: The Official BTB Discussion Thread

I just think if somebody doesn't want to write a backstory, or wants to write a match using storylines that happened in real life, they shouldn't be forced to write up a couple of paragraphs for no reason.

Anyway, enough of that, I'm kind of hoping that everybody doesn't just forget their threads and focus on the tournament. Would make the section really shitty for a month or two.

The qualifying round can be entered by anyone. The top eight (or something like that) will be chosen from that for the actual tournament proper. I'm quite sure there's to be no limitation on what your match can be for the qualifying round too, so you can write anything.

Depends who enters the tournament, but that's usually what happens.

This.

Basically, there is no timeframe you must choose from, nor is there a specific gimmick to the match, nor is there a length minimum/maximum. This tournament is to find the most well-rounded booker. If someone can't comprehend that writing thousands upon thousands of words won't garauntee you a victory because it's quality > quantity then clearly that guy won't win lol

I'm debating what to do with the entries. One thought I had (one of my judges suggested it to me) that the judges shouldn't know who did what work and the competitors shouldn't know the judges. So maybe I'll have the competitors PM me their entries, and I'll copy it and paste it in another PM (sending it to the judge) just so there is no bias when it comes to the judging. Then afterwards, I'll post everything with the thoughts from the judge(s).

What do you guys think about that?

'Tis a very good idea.

Will the tournament just be matches or will promos be involved in some way as well? Also, Stojy I feel context is downright essential when reading a match and it makes the whole match just feel a little more special, to echo Melvis' statement.

Exactly, but hey, who cares, TOURNAMENTS ARE FUN!

This section has a fascination with them, so might as well get it over with for another year.

I'm certain this is one of the reasons I probably won't be doing the tourny. I have nothing against the tournament or the idea of a tournament, but I'm not much for anything that sucks the life out of the rest of the section. That and its extra workload with school starting.

Seeing as how it's a concern, anyone know of a way for it NOT to stop the section dead for two months?

Ah, okay. Sounds good to me.

If you think bias is a real issue, then sure. As long as we get to read each other's work eventually, otherwise it somewhat defeats the 'showcase' element. Looking forward to it, though, should be a good one.
