iMPACT! Feedback

Nice way to kick us off with what I felt was some very good stuff from the announce team. You hyped both this show and the future Pay-Per-View, Destination X, very well.

Sabin vs. Shelley? Damn, that’s a fine opener. Starting the action off with a lot of fast-paced counters is always going to be a good way to start these X Division encounters, especially when the two guys are as talented as Shelley and Sabin, so that was good to see. The counter of Sabin’s dive to the outside from Shelley was alright in theory, although in reality it would have been a car wreck, as Sabin was coming down from quite some distance. Regardless, the appearance of Joe was nice, as was Shelley getting a period of dominance, although I would have marked had he busted out some of his awesome signature technical wrestling. Would have liked to have seen a little more offense from Sabin following his comeback before the finish, although the counters were nice, and Sabin picking up the win is probably the right move (no matter how big of a Shelley fan I am), as Sabin was pretty much synonymous with Ultimate X, and certainly higher up the card than Shelley at this time. Nice way to kick us off.

Very nice exchange between Styles and Daniels, with Daniels especially owning. I found it odd that Styles talked about their rivalry at first, as TNA were beginning to acknowledge the duo as friends at this point, although Daniels certainly owned this promo with his impassioned speech on how he wants revenge on Joe and not just the X Division Title. For a backstage meeting you’ve done very well to make this a very good promo.

I thought Mitchell and Abyss would be moving on from Rhino, though I guess I was wrong. Mitchell’s character was pretty much on from the beginning here tonight in what I thought was an improvement from last week, while he also put Abyss over very well as the destructive force that he is, especially by putting emphasis on the fact that despite Abyss losing at Against All Odds, Rhino still came off worse for wear. While I’m not usually a fan of someone burying the other talent on the microphone, the use of Rhino’s past and how he is no longer extreme was good. Maybe you should have left it at him being a shell of his former extreme self instead of saying he has a ton of flaws, but I still thought it was nice. The continued playing up of Abyss’ destruction was nice, as was the possibility of him going after the NWA Title. Obviously that can’t happen immediately since we already have a Destination X main event, although it’s a nice idea. Rhino interfering pretty much had to happen, since Abyss has no other direction to take for now, and the ensuing brawl was pretty awesome, keeping both men looking both even and strong. Good stuff.

Basic squash match for Killings, which gets him a bit of momentum I guess. The interesting part of this segment is obviously the post-match attack from Roode, and while I’m glad you’re featuring Roode, I’m sure Roode and Killings just wrestled at Final Resolution, while this seems like a brand new feud. A bit odd, imo.

Alright promo from Konnan here for LAX, pretty much making a match for Destination X and putting over LAX’s intentions well. Would have liked to have seen Konnan use his little catchphrase at the end of the promo like he always does, although this was a fine interview, putting over the aggression of LAX well.

A small thing, but only Storm used to carry a beer bottle. Harris had the handcuffs as his little gimmick. I have to say that during Cage’s entrance, I liked that you made sure to point out that Brown and Cage aren’t exactly on the same page. Makes things interesting, and also makes sense. Nice to see the main event get a longer write-up too. Much like the entrance, another little good thing between Cage and Brown was Brown giving Cage a little stare after showing his strength. A nice little touch. Cage making a blind tag to get in continues to play that story up, while I like the use of the staredown between Cage and Brown to give AMW a chance to take the momentum. The match breaking down into chaos was done well, as was the run in from Jarrett, levelling Cage and giving him and the feud some real heat headed into Destination X. 3D running in for the save is alright too, as it seemingly gives us a tag feud, although much like Roode vs. Killings it’s a feud that’s unfortunately rehashed from a few months prior (again, Final Resolution). Despite this, a pretty nice way to end the show, building some good hype towards Destination X.

Much like last week, this was an enjoyable read PatMan, with both matches and promos being good throughout. I thought that as a whole the promos were probably better than last week (even with the good opener last week), and the matches were of high enough quality for a weekly show, like always. Things are looking pretty good as we head towards Destination X, so I look forward to seeing you continue to build towards the Pay-Per-View. Good stuff, man.

Impact Feedback

Okay, so I’ve read both Impacts now, but will only be leaving feedback for the latest edition, as I’ve been busy, and I’m lazy. Hopefully as this thread goes on I can get a little more consistent, Pat .

I’m loving the way you’re doing the opening commentary for your shows, going into more details than most, and making sure every reader is caught up with everything that is happening before getting down to business. Nice touch, imo.

Chris Sabin vs. Alex Shelley to open up the show? Hell yeah, I’d take that opening any day of the week. The match up itself seemed pretty good, with lots of twist and turns, and momentum switches and such, and I was glad they got eight minutes to go at it, which isn’t a bad amount of time for a one hour show. Samoa Joe’s appearance didn’t really feel needed, if he wasn’t out at the start, why would he bother coming at all? I mean I know he has to get involved with his challengers, or potential challengers, but I believe it could have been done a little better than this. Anyway, Sabin’s counter into the Cradle Shock was also pretty cool, and overall it was a nice way to open the show. I just pray now, that being an hour show only, Alex Shelley better not get lost in the shuffle, otherwise I’d be severely disappointed. A nice little stare down between Sabin and Joe afterwards, building some tension perhaps, so that way if Sabin wins they have some emotion to build off, and I must say, the Ultimate X match to find out who faces Joe is looking extremely good early on.

I loved this meeting backstage between AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels, I don’t think it could have been written any better, well, at least Daniels’ part anyway. As for the truce thing by Styles, usually faces work out some sort of truce in these situations but it’s kind of an unspoken truce, the fact that Styles is almost asking Daniels to help him comes off as a little weak, imo. As for Daniels, the bitterness that spewed from his mouth reeks of a heel turn, and with how perfect this dialogue was written, it’d have me very excited. This would also make sense for why you had Joe/Sabin have their little stare down, because neither of these men will win at the PPV, because they are going to feud with each other. Maybe I’m reading a little to far into things, maybe I’m not, but that was a well written segment, man, Great work.

Just let me start off by saying wow. James Mitchell was dead on all the way through, from retelling the story of Rhyno’s career, to comparing Rhyno to Abyss, to signaling Abyss’ intentions of getting the NW World Championship, everything was just spot on. I honestly thought this was better than your Daniels dialogue, and I felt that was the best bit of a dialogue I’ve read in a while. Rhyno making a return was to be expected, because if he was out for any longer, he’d look a little weak, and perhaps past his prime, you also made both men look like complete monsters taking the others best shots and coming back from more. Just a very entertaining segment to continue this feud, more great work, Pat.

A nice win for Ron Killings, I’m not to sure who that is tbh, but a win for Killings is a good way to get him back over, as you said. I don’t mind Killings either, while not having the best move set, he has charisma, and he can be a valuable asset to this BTB, so I think giving him a bit of a push is actually a pretty good idea. The attack afterwards by Roode, lead by D’amore was good as well, it gives Killings a feud and will probably help him get back over now that the crowd will feel sympathetic for him. Although they were only wrestling moves done to him, so monitoring his progress throughout the program is not really needed, it’s not like he was attacked with a weapon. I don’t care how big or bad Roode is supposed to be, I think you over exaggerated here a little.

LAX backstage with Konnan speaking for them was pretty spot on once again, and a no DQ match against The James Gang could be just the thing to get rid of The James Gang, do it already please, and put LAX further over as killers.

The main event was another one that I was really looking forward to, and I felt like it delivered, as it told the story that needed to be told. The story was simply about whether or not Christian and Brown could co exist, and the fact is they didn’t really need to, as their individual talent got them over the line. The blind tag and stare down was probably the high point of the match, showing the tension of Destination X’s main event brewing. As for the finish, nice to see Jeff Jarrett get involved, and get the upper hand over Christian, as we can’t have Christian looking great all the time, even if he is champion. This was really just a typical TNA finish; I don’t have anything to really complain about. The aftermath of this match was quite explosive to, although I’d probably have preferred to see Christian and Brown get beat down then Team 3D make the save, I mean Team 3D just finished with Team Canada earlier in the night, and it just seems like you’re rushing them into a new feud to quickly.

Overall, I felt this was a very good show. I really had barely anything to complain about throughout, I feel you’ve got some good feuds going, the matches were good, and the promos OWNED throughout. Overall, I’d say this is your best show since your WWE 2006 thread, so keep at it, and this could be the one, Pat.

Having done well in the ratings the past few weeks, Spike TV feels that the product is strong enough to make the change, especially with the uberpopular Christian Cage as the new NWA World Champion, and the overall feeling is that the product is moving in the right direction.

There still remains some speculation as to whether or not the show will now be two hours or if it will continue to run for an hour, as it has been ever since it got on cable television. What is known is that the next two editions of Impact!, airing on March 4th and Match 11th are still going to be one hour, as TNA just finished up taping those two shows early this week.

Overall, the feeling within the company is that they have the talent to go two hours every week, but it is still unknown how they will rework their taping schedules, with the talent used to the” every other week” method of taping that has been going on for quite some time. A decision should be made some time before the Destination X PPV, with the next meeting scheduled for the week of the pay-per-view.
OOC: This was entirely the doing of EWR. I didn't even ask to be moved, as I didn't plan on having Impact! go primetime until at least after Lockdown. But what are you going to do? I am still deciding if I am going to make the jump to 2 hours, so expect another report when I do make that decision.

Thanks to everyone who has reviewed so far, and I promise that when the next round of shows come in from you guys, I will get back to my reviewing ways. Expect to see the next Impact! within a week, as I've just gotten a good start on it.

Stop listening to EWR, perhaps? Going primetime is all good but only doing so because the game told you is stupid - you're the boss and don't you forget it! Other than the EWR-stuff I'm loving this so far, and I hope for the sake of the thread that Impact stays as one-hour for a while. So yeah, even though I'm not reviewing (yet) I am most definately reading. Keep it up, Pat.

I agree with Jon. I'm not a big fan of using EWR for BTB at all, because at times I think it can completely cripple you to the point where it's just unrealistic. I also think the one hour shows are good for you to help you get back into writing, so I'd rather see you stick with them for now, and go with what you originally wanted to do.

Unlike the two jobbers above (<3) I actually don't mind you following EWR, as things like this just add interest, and at this point in time, it won't have a major effect on the BTB. So yeah, at this stage, going Prime time is great, imo. I'm hoping for the next show soon to, so you know, don't disappoint .

Just to clarify, I haven't made any decisions about whether or not the show will move to two hours. I am simply weighing my options right now, and I actually like that I have the opportunity to make Impact! two hours whenever I prove. Also, I now have eight spots to work with for one-hour shows, which I like much better than the usual six spots I had before. So let's let this play out before we start getting all upset, m'kay?

Onto real business, here's the Impact! preview. Show should be up Saturday.

***

TNA Impact! Preview – March 4, 2006

The most exciting wrestling promotion in the world today gets ready to take the next step forward, with another explosive edition of TNA Impact! on tap for this Saturday night! Join ‘The Professor’ Mike Tenay and Don West and witness all of the great action that TNA promises to deliver, only on Spike! TV this Saturday at 9PM/8PM CST.

With Destination X just short eight days away, we have seen just how big the event will be for some wrestlers, and none have more on the line than the reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion ‘The Instant Classic’ Christian Cage. Last week, he saw just how tough life is at the top, as the former World Champion Jeff Jarrett broke his guitar over Cage’s head, ending the match between Cage, Brown, and America’s Most Wanted. Jeff Jarrett looked like a man possessed after the guitar shot, and he looked ready to inflict more damage on the champion, but the save came from Team 3D, who hit the ring and ran off Jarrett and Co. This week, Larry Zybyzsko has promised a big announcement, having to do with Destination X! Not only will he announce a potential blockbuster match for the pay-per-view, but he has also put Jeff Jarrett on notice, stating that some sort of punishment will come after Jarrett’s actions last week. What will Zybyzsko announce, and how will it affect the wrestlers of TNA?

Also this week, we are set to find out the final man who will be wrestling in the Ultimate X match at Destination X, as Petey Williams, a former X Division Champion, will take on one of the most exciting young wrestlers in TNA, the upstart Jay Lethal. Whoever wins this match will join AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, and Chris Sabin at Destination X, with one man getting a shot at Samoa Joe’s X Division Championship. Who will be the one to move one step closer to getting a chance at the X Division Championship, and join those three men in a historic match? Tune in this Saturday to find out!

After challenging The James Gang to a No Disqualification match at Destination X, The Latin American Exchange will see their first in-ring action since Against All Odds, as they will go against The Naturals! In addition, Team 3D will get another match this week, taking on Elix Skipper and David Young, who will no doubt be joined by their obnoxious manager, Simon Diamond. With America’s Most Wanted obviously having their eyes on this match, we can expect to see the legendary tag team give Skipper and Young quite the challenge, with a possible NWA Tag Team Title match in their future. And finally, after their actions last week, Bobby Roode and Team Canada leader Scott D’Amore have been given interview time with Jeremy Borash. It would seem that Roode and D’Amore will explain their reasoning behind the attack of Ron ‘The Truth’ Killings last week. What they will say is anyone’s guess, but we know that it will certainly be an attempt at justifying their actions. All of this, plus ‘The War Machine’ Rhino, ‘The Alpha Male’ Monty Brown, ‘The Monster’ Abyss, and many more, as TNA gets its show during primetime, and you don’t want to miss it!

Scheduled Matches For TNA Impact!:
~ Team 3D vs. The Diamonds in the Rough
~ The Naturals vs. The Latin American Exchange
~ Ultimate X Qualifying Match – Jay Lethal vs. Petey Williams

Good preview, Pat. I'm looking forward to Lethal/Williams, I expect Petey to win that match and go onto Destination X but I wouldn't be shocked if you tried something different by putting Jay in Ultimate X, and he could do some good stuff in there to get him over. The interview with Roode and D'Amore will be interesting, I'd like to see Scott do more of the talking as he's a better talker than Roode IMO, and I can see Ron Killings showing up in the interview and attacking Roode. The two tag team matches look sweet, too, and I expect Team 3D and LAX to go over in their matches.

I'll check the show out once it's up, and I'll try to leave feedback for it too.

TNA Impact! – March 4, 2006

Video recap from last week: The video starts towards the conclusion of the main event, pitting America’s Most Wanted against Monty Brown and NWA World Champion Christian Cage. Cage looks set to win the match for his team, setting up Storm for the Unprettier, before Jeff Jarrett comes down to the ring, and levels Cage with the guitar, causing the DQ finish. The assault that Jarrett had planned doesn’t happen, as Team 3D hits the ring and chases Planet Jarrett off. The package comes to an end with Jarrett yelling at Cage, telling him that Team 3D won’t be there at Destination X.

TNA IMPACT! OPENING VIDEO

Destination X Ramblings

We get no opening commentary this week, as Larry Zybyzsko is standing in the center of the ring, microphone in hand, which he raises as the crowd dies down.

Larry Zybyzsko: Ladies and gentlemen of the Impact Zone, I’ve waited all week to come out here and say what I need to say, and I promise that it will be quick, because we all know why you’re here tonight, and that’s because you wanna see the most exciting wrestling on television!

A decent pop from the TNA fans.

Larry Zybyzsko: So let me get right down to business and make my first announcement. March Twelfth, we have our next TNA pay-per-view, and that is Destination X. Now we have already heard the announcements of some great matches, including Ultimate X, the X Division Championship match, LAX against the James Gang, and of course the triple threat match between Christian Cage, Jeff Jarrett, and Monty Brown for the World Championship.

A pop for this match, as it’s one the fans can’t wait to see.

Larry Zybyzsko: In addition to those four matches, which I am sure will all be very entertaining, I have added one that you fans will not want to miss. It will involve six men that have been featured prominently over the past few months, and I think that it’s about time we put an end to all of the problems between them.

Larry Z pauses for a moment before continuing, letting the “anticipation” build.

Larry Zybyzsko: One of the heated rivalries that we have seen week in and week out has been the one between Team 3D (big pop) and the reigning NWA Tag Team Champions, America’s Most Wanted.

Heat for the tag champs.

Larry Zybyzsko: Ever since Team 3D came to this company last fall, we have seen these two teams at each other’s throats each and every week. Well, at Destination X, these four men will all be in the same ring, but they won’t wrestle for the tag titles because they won’t be the only ones in the ring. Because two more men that have wrestled in the past are the two men that we had to have security restraint last week, and they will also be in action at Destination X. I’m talking about ‘The Monster’ Abyss (heat) and the man who returned last week, ‘The War Machine’ Rhino!

Big-time pop for the former NWA and ECW Champion.

Larry Zybyzsko: Those two tore the house down in a Falls Count Anywhere match at Against All Odds, and I wanna give the fans what they want, so we will see Rhino teaming with Team 3D to take on Abyss and America’s Most Wanted!

A very big pop for that new match announced, even though everyone would much rather see them face off in separate matches .

Larry Zybyzsko: That is sure to be one hell of a match between six of the most talented wrestlers we have on the roster, I can guarantee that. But before I leave this ring and let the wrestling take over, I have one more issue to address. And it involves the man who interfered in the main event last week, the man who has been on a mission ever since Against All Odds. I’m talking about Jeff Jarrett.

Major heat from the crowd, hating Jeff Jarrett even more than usual.

Larry Zybyzsko: Je--

“My World”

And before Larry can even speak his name again, the music of the former NWA World Champion hits in the Impact! Zone, getting the same reaction from the crowd that we just heard. Surprisingly, ‘The King of the Mountain’ is without any of his usual associates, walking down the heel ramp on his own and not looking very happy. Keeping his eyes locked on Zybyzsko, Jeff gets into the ring and walks across, past the man making the matches, and grabs a microphone from a stagehand. After the boos die down, Jeff brings the mic up.

Jeff Jarrett: Larry, after all that you’ve done to me, you still have the audacity to come down here and say that you are going address my actions? You shouldn’t even be working for this company anymore, not after all the idiotic decisions that you’ve made over the past few weeks!

Heat from the fans, while Larry Z looks pissed, just like Jeff.

Jeff Jarrett: The main event that you made for Destination X, that match that pits me against two punks for my World Title, that is a damn joke! I was the World Champion for three months, and I have been the one carrying this company ever since it started. So after just one fluke win by Christian Cage, you don’t even give me my proper one-on-one rematch? You give that perennial loser Monty Brown a title shot when he didn’t do a damn thing?

Jarrett and Zybyzsko eye-ball each other, with both men fuming.

Jeff Jarrett: What the hell were you thinking, Larry!?

Larry Zybyzsko: You shut your damn mouth, Jeff!

A major pop for that one, with Larry Z silencing Double J.

Larry Zybyzsko: I didn’t do anything that goes against your precious rematch clause in your contract. You need to read the fine print, Jeff. Because if you do, you’ll see what’s always been said in there. It states that should you lose the World Title, you will be the first one in the next match that the title is defended in. That clause has always been the same, never stating anything about that rematch being a one-on-one contest. And I’m not about to make an exception just because Jeff Jarrett is trying to intimidate me!

More cheers for the authority figure. But JJ has heard enough.

Jeff Jarrett: You fix this damn mistake, Larry. You need to fix this right now because I’m not the only one who is mad about these decisions you’re making. I know that Chris and James, they’re none too happy about stepping into the ring with Team 3D. And Samoa Joe, I can guarantee that he doesn’t like the fact that he won’t know his opponent at Destination X until an hour before he defends the X Division Title. You’re starting to lose your marbles, old man, and you’re gonna get out of control. So I am demanding that you take Monty Brown out that match, and you give me Christian Cage one-on-one at Destination X.

More boos for the former champion, who lowers his mic and crosses his arms, waiting for an answer.

Larry Zybyzsko: You aren’t in a position to demand a damn thing, Jeff! The match has been signed, and the only way that it’s becoming a one-on-one match is if drop out yourself.

The crowd gives another huge pop, as Jarrett throws the mic down and nearly blows a gasket, getting awful close to hitting Zybyzsko.

Larry Zybyzsko: But you know what, Jeff? Since you’re so set on proving yourself in a one-on-one match, how about you get one tonight? And I think I know just the guy for you to wrestle.

JJ backs off while Larry cracks a small smile.

Larry Zybyzsko: This is someone who you’ve pissed off more than once over the past few months. And it’s someone that I know is ready to get back into the ring. Tonight, our main event is gonna be a big one, as ‘The King of the Mountain’ Jeff Jarrett wrestles one-on-one against … ‘The War Machine’ Rhino!

Biggest pop of the promo, as Jeff remains seriously pissed, and Larry lowers his mic and heads out of the ring, happy with the message that he sent tonight. Jarrett yells at Zybyzsko as he heads up the ramp, but Larry doesn’t even turn around to face JJ, who now must wrestle Rhino later on tonight.

Don West: What a main event, professor! Jeff Jarrett came out here to try and work Larry Zybyzsko, but all he got was a match against Rhino!

Mike Tenay: Well Larry Zybyzsko certainly held his own against Jarrett, as he was not budging an inch on the match he made two weeks ago. And to top it all off, Larry showed just how much authority he has, setting up a match between Jeff and the man who hasn’t wrestled since Against All Odds, Rhino!

Don West: This was a match that was the main event of Bound For Glory and Turning Point, and the fans get to see it on free TV tonight!

Mike Tenay: Based on the matches we’ve seen in the past, we are set for a fantastic main event. But that’s not all we have on this jam-packed show, as we are set to kick off the wrestling, with the Latin American Exchange wrestling against The Naturals! It’s right after this commercial break! Don’t go anywhere!

Commercial Break

When Impact! returns, “Natural” is heard playing in the background, as Chase Stevens and Andy Douglas, the team collectively known as The Naturals, are warming up in the ring, getting ready for their upcoming tag team match. After their theme dies down, “Dawgz” takes over, getting some strong heat from the crowd. After a few moments, the group of Konnan, Homicide, and Machete makes their way into the arena, entering down the heel ramp. The three don’t look very happy, ready to take out their wrath on the two men in the ring. As Konnan stays on the outside, Homicide and Machete get into ring, with the bell ringing.

Match #1 – The Naturals vs. The Latin American Exchange (w/Konnan)

Sadly, this match doesn’t get enough time to really showcase the men in the ring, as we start very quickly, with Homicide going after Douglas hard, bullying him with continued rights and lefts, setting the tone very early. It seems that the near three weeks since their loss to the James Gang has made Homicide and Machete even more ruthless, as they were really in control for the first few minutes, save for a few quick counters and strikes from Stevens and Douglas. But eventually Douglas turns the match in his team’s favor, dropping Machete with a quick high knee, finally stopping LAX’s momentum. After some offense by Douglas, Machete rakes the eyes and makes the quick tag to Homicide, who immediately flattens Douglas with a clothesline. After some offense, Homicide looks to have the match won, ready to hook Douglas into position for Da Gringo Killa, but BG James, Kip James, and ‘Bullet’ Bob Armstrong walk down the face ramp!

This immediately catches the attention of Konnan, who begins verbally trashing BG, who gives it right back, as the trio move down the ramp. Homicide sees Machete also yelling and grabs his shoulder (making a blind tag), and tells him to focus on the match. But this doesn’t help, as Homicide gets hit from behind by Stevens, who was just tagged in by Douglas, and Homicide falls to the outside! Machete gets grabbed by Stevens and flipped into the ring, as he quickly picks up Machete and hits him with the Death Valley Driver! Douglas makes sure no one can get in and break up the pin, as the Naturals pick up the surprising victory!

Winners: The Naturals over Latin American Exchange; Stevens pins Machete at 5:12.

Just as the bell rings, Stevens gets back to his feet and Douglas grabs his hand, holding it up high. The two celebrate their big victory in the ring, but that’s not exactly what the fans care about, as Konnan and Homicide are walking up the ramp toward the James Gang, leaving Machete on his own, as the LAX member has rolled out of the ring and to the outside. Konnan and Homicide look ready to fight, as they continue to trade insults, looking like they are going to brawl. Konnan and Homicide get close to the James Gang and look ready to attack, as the three “family members” all gear up for the brawl that is sure to follow, but the fans begin to boo, as several security guards come out from the back and quickly get in between the two sides, saying something to them about being on the orders of Larry Zybyzsko. The crowd boos as both sides back away from each other just a little bit, with their fight having to wait until another day.

Mike Tenay: And that was certainly the right move by Larry Zybyzsko, those two sides were ready to destroy each other!

Don West: I say that we let them fight right now, Mike! The James Gang and the Latin American Exchange hate each other, and it’s only a matter of time before the hatred boils over.

Mike Tenay: I understand that, Don, but tonight is not the time. They are already scheduled to face each other at Destination X in a No Disqualification match, and that’s when we will see them lay it all on the line.

Don West: I certainly can’t wait for that match, but we still have a lot more tonight on Impact!, including Jeff Jarrett wrestling Rhino!

Mike Tenay: That is sure to be a fantastic main event, but right now we head to the back with Jeremy Borash, who is standing by with Team Canada leader Scott D’Amore, and ‘The Canadian Enforcer’ Bobby Roode. Take it away, J.B!

And we do indeed cut to the back!

Completely Warranted

Scott D’Amore stands on his left, while Bobby Roode stands to the right of the TNA interviewer Jeremy Borash. D’Amore and Roode get greeted with very loud boos by the fans, hating what they did last week to Ron ‘The Truth’ Killings. D’Amore acknowledged the heat from the fans, smiling a little bit before J.B. brings up the mic to get this started.

Jeremy Borash: Hello TNA fans, I am Jeremy Borash, standing by right now with two members of Team Canada, the coach of the team Scott D’Amore, and ‘The Canadian Enforcer’ Bobby Roode. Guys, I want to ask about las—

Before J.B. can even finish his sentence, the mic is grabbed by D’Amore.

Scott D’Amore: Before you can even finish your little prepared question, I am going to talk to the fans directly, and answer the question that I know is on everyone’s mind. Anyone who watched Impact! last week knows that what Bobby Roode did to Ron Killings was a show of total domination. But what all of you idiots seem to have problems understanding is that after what Killings did at Against All Odds, that assault that he was the victim of last week was completely warranted.

Heat from the fans, with D’Amore continuing.

Scott D’Amore: In case you don’t have the best memories, let me remind you that Ron Killings brought this entire problem on himself. He decided to stick his nose in Team Canada’s business at Against All Odds, when he helped Team 3D attack us. And now that he made that mistake, he has no choice but to pay the price for his actions. And he isn’t nearly done paying the price because the man you see standing across from me, he isn’t done beating up Ron Killings.

The camera pans to Roode, who remains somewhat stoic.

Scott D’Amore: Bobby Roode, a future World Champion of TNA, he has beaten Ron Killings before, just twomonths ago at Final Resolution. And he’s gonna do the exact same thing in just eight days, because at Destination X, it’s gonna be Roode against Killings one more time! And this time, we don’t plan on letting Ron leave the arena on his own, because this time Bobby isn’t just going to pin his shoulders to the mat, he’s gonna end his career!

More heat from the fans, as D’Amore smiles again.

Scott D’Amore: And Ron ‘The Truth’ Killings is going to regret the day that he crossed Team Canada, because he’s gonna be the next victim of the greatest stable in professional wrestling!

D’Amore hands the mic back to J.B. and then leads Roode out of the shot, as we cut to our next…

Commercial Break

As we come back from break, “Static” hits to a decent reaction from the fans, as we are ready for our second and final Ultimate X qualifying match, with Jay Lethal walking onto the ramp, looking pumped up for his match. Lethal makes his way down the ramp, slapping hands with some happy fans, before walking up the steps and getting into the ring. As Lethal warms up in the ring, “O Canada” hits, bringing some very loud boos from the crowd. After a few seconds, ‘The Canadian Destroyer’ Petey Williams walks out of the heel entrance, walking down the ramp with his usual arrogance about him. Williams is without any Team Canada members, per the rules by Larry Zybyzsko that wrestlers should only come out by themselves. A little trash talk between Lethal and Petey when Williams gets into the ring, but that stops as Mark Johnson calls for the bell.

Match #2 – Ultimate X Qualifying Match – Jay Lethal vs. Petey Williams

Just like the match between Shelley and Sabin last week, this is a very good contest between two of the best young wrestlers that TNA has to offer. The match starts with Williams knocking down Lethal with a shoulder block but before Williams can even get cocky, Lethal comes right at his opponent, looking to be way too quick to handle, hitting Williams with a quick chop before flipping over with an arm drag. As Williams scrambles back to his feet, Lethal bounces off the ropes and hits him with a forearm to the face, sending the former X Division Champion stumbling back into the corner. In the corner, Lethal hits a few rights before getting a knee to the gut and then throws Williams against the ropes, leaping into the air and executing a perfect hurricarana on the rebound!

Lethal has the crowd fired up early and looks like he is going to be on his way to a very quick victory. But as matches usually go, the turning point has to come eventually, and it does after about another minute of Lethal offense, as he hits a dropkick and then takes to the turnbuckle, climbing slowly before setting himself on the top, leaping off and looking for an Axe Handle … but Williams catches him with a dropkick of his own, right to the chest! This finally gives Petey some time to breathe, as he stays down for a short time before reaching his feet and grabbing Lethal by the head, lifting him up and then tossing him into the opposite corner, running in and hitting a clothesline. Lethal stumbles out after the shot and Williams grabs him, dropping Jay with a DDT! A near fall follows that devastating move, and Williams gets another near fall after he hits a swinging neckbreaker, but Jay is able to stay alive. Williams motions to the crowd that it’s over, grabbing Lethal and looking to set him up for the Canadian Destroyer, but before he can set it up, Lethal counters out and hits a European uppercut, dropping Williams!

The crowd pops for the offense from Lethal, as both men hit the canvas, without a count from Johnson, seeing as this match must have a winner. They both get back up at about the same time, trading blows in the center of the ring, before Lethal gains the upperhand, backing Petey into the ropes. Williams pushes Jay off, and runs at him … right into the EnzuFury! Lethal drops Williams with a tremendous display of athleticism, with the 20-year old getting back to his feet and heading to the turnbuckle again, slowly climbing before setting his feet and jumping, looking for the Diving Dynamite … but Williams rolls out of the way! Lethal crashes and burns in the worst way, as Petey climbs back to a vertical base and grabs Lethal off the canvas, hitting a kick to the gut and hooking Lethal into position … Canadian Destroyer! The crowd pops for the awesome move, despite Williams being a heel, and Petey slowly makes the cover, ONE! TWO! THREE!

Winner: Petey Williams over Jay Lethal via pinfall at 6:45.

The bell rings and Petey Williams immediately gets back to his feet, looking very pleased with himself as Mark Johnson raises his hand in victory. Williams rips his hand away and then heads to the corner, climbing to the middle turnbuckle and celebrating his victory some more, getting heat from the fans. But the celebration doesn’t last long, as Petey’s attention is caught by something, with the camera panning to the heel ramp, where X Division Champion Samoa Joe stands, dressed in a t-shirt and trunks, title over his right shoulder. Just like last week, ‘The Samoan Submission Machine’ doesn’t do anything, simply having an intense stare down with Williams, as we now know all four participants in the Ultimate X match at Destination X.

Mike Tenay: Jay Lethal certainly tried his best, but it was the impressive Petey Williams who came away with the victory. We now know that AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Chris Sabin, and Petey Williams will all have a chance at the X Division Championship, as they will wrestle in an Ultimate X match at Destination X, with the winner facing Samoa Joe later in the night for the championship!

Don West: And this is gonna be a match between four of our best X Division wrestlers! It’s anyone’s match, and I have no idea who will come out on top!

Mike Tenay: That remains to be seen, but we do know that Samoa Joe will be ready for whoever is the victor. The reigningX Division Champion has yet to lose since coming to TNA last year, and it will be tough for someone to beat him at Destination X, seeing as the challenger will have to wrestle twice in the same night!

Don West: But crazier things have happened, Mike. Crazier things have happened.

Split-Screen~!

We are in a random backstage hallway, as ‘The War Machine’ Rhino is dressed to compete, stretching out his legs and bouncing from side to side, looking very confident and ready for the main event tonight. We now shift to a split-screen, as Rhino stays on the right side, as we get a shot of ‘The King of the Mountain’ Jeff Jarrett, inside his own locker room, pacing back and forth. JJ isn’t dressed to compete yet, as he simply walks back and forth, not showing fear or confidence.

Mike Tenay: Rhino and Jeff Jarrett are the two men that will be going one-on-one in our main event tonight, but coming up right after this commercial break, we will see Team 3D in action, taking on David Young and Elix Skipper, known collectively as the Diamonds in the Rough! Don’t go anywhere!

Just as Tenay alluded to, we get another…

Commercial Break

When we return, we are back inside the Impact! Zone, with David Young and Elix Skipper standing in the ring and Simon Diamond yelling instructions outside of it. After a few seconds, “Watch Out, Watch Out” hits, sending the crowd into a frenzy, as Brother Ray and Brother Devon walk out onto the face entrance ramp, looking pumped and ready for this match. Team 3D enters the ring, with Devon going to the apron, as Ray faces off with Skipper, ready for the match to begin, with Andrew Thomas calling for the bell.

Match #3 – Team 3D vs. The Diamonds in the Rough (w/Simon Diamond)

Nothing but a glorified squash for the legendary tag team, giving them a chance to get their faces on TV after the announcement of the six-man tag team match at Destination X. Skipper and Young get a little bit of offense after a thumb to the eye by Skipper, but Ray quickly battles back, and Team 3D dominates until the end of the match. After Devon tosses Skipper outside the ring and onto Diamond, Ray throws Young against the ropes, and the legendary tandem hits the 3-D on the rebound, with Devon covering for the academic pinfall.

Winners: Team 3-D over The Diamonds in the Rough; Devon pins David Young at 4:01.

Basic celebration for Team 3-D, as they play to the fans before getting close to the camera, yelling that AMW better have seen what just happened, because they are ready to do some real damage to the tag champs and Abyss at Destination X. The two head back up the ramp, as we cut to the back.

Didn’t We See Something Like This Last Week?

The crowd begins to cheer, as NWA World Heavyweight Champion ‘The Instant Classic’ Christian Cage is walking~! Cage is dressed in his street clothes and has the title resting on his shoulder, walking past and acknowledging some backstage workers. After turning a corner, Cage stops and smiles a little, as the camera pans to show the man standing across from him … ‘The Alpha Male’ Monty Brown. The crowd gives Monty a very mixed reaction, as he too is not dressed to compete, instead wearing sweats and a t-shirt. Brown and Cage eye each other for a short time, before the champion breaks the silence.

Christian Cage: Y’know Monty, there’s no reason that we should hate each other. I mean think about it, it’s Jeff Jarrett’s fault that we aren’t going t wrestle one-on-one for this belt at Destination X. We have the same goal, and that is to see Jeff Jarrett get embarrassed by two wrestlers that are much more talented than him.

Monty doesn’t respond, as Cage looks little nervous as he continues.

Christian Cage: We shouldn’t have to worry about the other guy siding with Jeff, because we both hate him the same. We’re both pretty straight shooters, so I think that it goes without saying that neither of us would stoop low enough to team with Jarrett at Destination X just to take the other guy out.

Cage pauses again, as Monty keeps his eyes locked on the champion, speaking his first words of the night.

Monty Brown: There’s a small problem with your logic there, Cage. The way that you talked, you made it sound like I hate Jeff Jarrett more than anyone in the world. Now, I’ll admit that I hate him a whole lot, especially after what he’s done over the past few months. But there’s one guy in this company that I hate more than Jeff Jarrett … you.

Heat for Monty.

Monty Brown: Because three months ago, I was ready to finally take what should have been mine a long time ago, and that’s the World Heavyweight Championship. Y’see, I earned a shot at that belt you carry, and I earned it back in November when I beat Jeff Hardy decisively. And I thought by winning that match, I was going to get the next shot at Jeff Jarrett, and I thought I’d get it at Turning Point. But then you came along, and TNA decided to screw me once again, and said that I had to beat you in order to get my title shot.

Monty keeps his glare on Cage, who now looks just as intense.

Monty Brown: Somehow, they decided that we were equals in the championship rankings, and even though you never wrestled a match in TNA, we were going to wrestle to see who got the next title shot. And just because you got lucky against me, all of my hard work was gone, and I was right back to where I was months ago. So because of you, I had to join with Jeff Jarrett at Final Resolution just to try and get my name back out there, while you were on top of the world, taking my title shot from me.

Monty moves closer to Cage, who doesn’t back down an inch.

Monty Brown: But now that I have the shot that I’ve been waiting months for, I really don’t care who else in the match. Yeah, if I can beat the crap out of Jeff Jarrett in the ring, I’m not gonna pass that up. But you’re still the man I’m gunning for. That NWA World Title is what I’ve been after for over a year, and seeing you carry it around for the past three weeks has made me sick. So enjoy your last eight days with the title, because after Destination X, you’re gonna have to go through the same hell that I went through, and work your ass off just for another shot at my World Title.

More heat for the former linebacker, as he stares at Christian for a few more seconds before walking past him, his eyes looking at the World Title as he does. Christian watches him walk off, looking much more pissed off than he did early. The camera fades out as we go to our final…

Commercial Break

Mike Tenay: It seems to me that Monty Brown is more focused now than he has ever been. He told Christian Cage the truth. He doesn’t care about anything except the World Heavyweight Championship.

Don West: Monty Brown has always been one to speak his mind, and with the incredible focus that he’s shown since coming back, he’ll be a force to be reckoned with at Destination X.

Mike Tenay: Destination X is going to be quite the pay-per-view, but Don, we still have one more match tonight! Jeff Jarrett must go one-on-one with a man who hasn’t wrestled since Against All Odds, and that’s Rhino!

Don West: These two main evented four pay-per-views in 2005, and now we get to see them wrestle each other one more time!

Mike Tenay: Jeff Jarrett certainly has his sights set on regaining the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at Destination X, but he also knows that he can’t overlook Rhino tonight, because as we’ve seen in the past, Rhino can beat Jeff Jarrett!

Cut to the arena, as “My World” hits for the second time tonight, bringing out ‘The King of the Mountain’ Jeff Jarrett and his valet Gail Kim to loud boos. Jarrett holds up his custom guitar as his pyro goes off behind him, before the former champion walks down the ramp, looking ready for Rhino. Waiting in the ring for his opponent, Jarrett hands his coat and guitar to Kim on the outside, as “War Machine” blasts over the PA, getting a huge reaction from the fans. ‘The War Machine’ Rhino bursts out of the entrance chute, sprinting down the face ramp and sliding into the ring, as the crowd continues to cheer one of their favorite superstars. Rhino eyeballs Jarrett from across the ring, while senior official Earl Hebner calls for the bell and starts the match.

Main Event – Jeff Jarrett (w/Gail Kim) vs. Rhino

A big main event to end the night, as Jarrett and Rhino have had a ton of recent history, going one on one at Bound For Glory and also Turning Point, but sadly this match isn’t going to get all that much time, with the show running late as it is. The basic stuff in the early going, with Jarrett actually trying to lock up with the bigger Rhino, with the former ECW Champion winning each exchange. Jarrett gets in a few chops and even a clothesline, but the first two minutes consist of Rhino holding the advantage, using his tremendous strength to knock Jarrett down to the mat multiple times. Rhino begins to up the intensity, throwing Jarrett into the corner and then following with a clothesline and an arm drag, before lifting Jarrett back up and clotheslining him over the top rope to the outside!

Jarrett and Rhino both fall to the outside, but Jeff obviously took the worst of the move, as Rhino pops back up and grabs Jarrett by the head, bouncing it off the guardrail, right in front of some Jarrett-hating fans. Rhino loves the reaction that he’s getting but doesn’t let that distract him, as he picks Jarrett up again and drives him back-first into the ring apron. Rhino continues the offense with some strikes but the match turns when Rhino tries to whip Jeff against the apron again, with Jarrett hitting a thumb to the eye before throwing Rhino head-first into the ringpost! The crowd boos like crazy as Jarrett stomps Rhino a few times before rolling him back inside the ring, and then following himself. Jarrett grabs Rhino in the ring, bringing the larger man over for a beautiful snap suplex! Jarrett makes the cover, One! Two! Kick Out! Rhino gets his shoulder up, keeping the match going and frustrating Jarrett.

Jeff tries to pick Rhino back up to his feet, but The War Machine gets his feet planted and drives Jarrett back into the corner, taking the air out of him with a few shoulder thrusts in the corner, getting the momentum back on his side. After letting Jarrett breathe for a moment, Rhino lifts him up and plants him with a scoop powerslam, getting a close two count for his effort. Rhino attempts to get Jarrett into position for a powerbomb, but Jeff counters out and drops Rhino with a big backbody drop! Jarrett walks around the ring before yelling at Gail Kim to give him the guitar! Kim slides the instrument into the ring while Hebner is focused on Rhino, but Jarrett can’t do any damage with it, as Earl spots him before he can even pick it up off the ground. The two argue before Hebner grabs it and heads to toss it outside the ring. As this is happening, Rhino is getting back to his feet, but Jarrett runs at him and hits a blantant low blow! The crowd is furious, as JJ quickly follows that dirty move by grabbing Rhino and getting him into position … The Stroke connects! Hebner didn’t see anything, as he gets rid of the guitar and then makes the count, with Jarrett having gotten away with a cheap move, One! Two! Three!

Winner: Jeff Jarrett over Rhino via pinfall at 7:10.

The bell rings and the crowd continues to shit all over the result. Jarrett has Hebner raise his hand, as Rhino begins to stir on the mat. Jarrett incites the crowd a little bit more, before he realizes that Rhino is going to get back up, and he slowly backpedals and leaves the ring, meeting with Gail Kim on the outside. The duo back up the face ramp, seeing as it’s the closest, and they begin to taunt Rhino, who’s now back on his feet, looking back at them as they continue to make their way up the ramp. The crowd then begins to boo even louder, as Jarrett continues to incite Rhino, but that’s not what has the fans upset, as the camera pans to the heel ramp, where James Storm, Chris Harris, and Abyss are running toward the ring, with an ecstatic James Mitchell bringing up the rear. Storm and Harris get into the ring first, as Rhino still have no idea what is going on, as Jarrett smiles and tells him to turn around … and Storms knocks him down with a clothesline! Harris follows the lead of his partner, as the two begin to stomp Rhino, who looks to be beaten pretty badly from the match that he just wrestled. As all of this going on, the crowd has even more reason to be upset, with the camera shifting to a backstage hallway, where Team 3D lay on the ground, looking bloodied pretty bad. That’s not all, as a shattered beer bottle lies next to them, and a chain lays across the two, right away pointing out who the attackers were. Back inside the arena, Rhino looks to have no shot against the three men, as Abyss now gets in on the action, with AMW whipping Rhino towards him, and ‘The Monster’ drops his rival with a huge Big Boot! After this happens, Harris heads to the corner, climbing up the turnbuckle while Storm gets Rhino into position, as Harris jumps off the top … Death Sentence! The crowd shits all over the NWA Tag Team Champions, as Jeff Jarrett and Gail Kim are at the top of the ramp, smiling about what’s unfolding in the ring. Finally, Abyss tells AMW to get out of his way, as he lifts Rhino off the mat, with James Mitchell screaming outside the ring, telling Abyss to finish the job. Abyss whips Rhino off the ropes, catching him on the rebound … Black Hole Slam! Abyss puts the icing on the cake, delivering the final blow to Rhino, as the crowd can’t help from booing even more. Abyss stands over Rhino, holding his arms above his head, happy with the job that he’s done.

Don West: What a sickening display by these three men!

Mike Tenay: Rhino needs some help out here! Team 3D needs some help wherever they are backstage! This was all setup, orchestrated by that man at the top of the ramp, a man who could be our World Champion again, that scumbag Jeff Jarrett!

Don West: America’s Most Wanted took out Team 3D, and then they joined Abyss is destroying Rhino! Why didn’t someone stop this!?

Mike Tenay: I have no idea, Don. But we know that this won’t go without its consequences. I really hope that Planet Jarrett and Abyss get what’s coming to them, because after what happened tonight, they deserve a beating like Rhino just received. And I only hope that Rhino and Team 3D can recover in time for Destination X, because that’s when they face Abyss and America’s Most Wanted. Folks, we’re all out of time, so we’ll see you next week, when hopefully these despicable people will pay for their actions!

Impact Feedback

Opening video is all good, keeping us up to date with all the stuff that happened last week. Some people say it’s not all that needed, but I like these little video packages. I think it is these kind of little details that make a difference at times.

I hate Larry Zybyzsko. He really annoys me. Now that I’ve got that out of the way I want to say that this promo was pretty dull, however it served its purpose. Clearly this was all about selling Destination X, and that’s all good, and I don’t mind the six man match made for the PPV. It kind of doesn’t make sense because the two feuds haven’t been mixed at all, so just to throw them together seems like a booking excuse to get both feuds on the PPV, but I like the fact that both these feuds will probably be continuing after the PPV. I’m also not sure if this warranted an in ring promo, as Larry could have just announced this backstage or something, and we could have had some kind of epic promo from a wrestler hyping themselves, or their current feud. Jeff Jarrett interrupting and now I understand why it was an in ring promo. The insults from Jarrett, plus the rebuttals from Larry were okay, without being anything that great, yet it set up a good main event for tonight. Overall, a decent enough start to the show, but probably a step down from the promos over the last two shows.

I definitely expected LAX to pick up the victory over The Naturals here, so I was shocked when The Naturals picked up the victory. I guess it’s a nice way to show off the strength of your tag division, while also keeping current feuds going with the distraction coming from The James Gang. After the match up a brawl really should have started before security coming out, both sides just standing there talking shit for ages makes them look a little weak, imo.

Team Canada continuing to gun for Killings was to be expected, tbh. Nothing really outstanding about this promo, just putting over another match for Destination X. Decent enough, though.

wrestlers should only come out by themselves. That’s a pretty half assed rule, imo. Lethal/Williams was a fairly good contest, and I think it’s good as it puts over Williams talent, as it’s a clean victory. Samoa Joe making an appearance like last week once again annoys me, as I want to see some action, but at the same time, it’s good hype for whoever gets a shot at him. Also, Joe should probably be featured on the shows a little more; being a champion and what not I think he may be a little under utilized

Simple Rhino/Jarrett hype, although for some reason I’ve never minded these split screen moments, even if they don’t really do much.

Nice squash victory for Team 3D, trying to send a message to AMW. I wouldn’t mind a little more hype for this match tbh, but the one hour show is restricting you a bit.

I enjoyed this segment between Christian and Monty here. First off, it’s good that you got them on the show, and second of all, they have a history so I found it a little more interesting. Christian was okay, nothing compared to how he has been in previous weeks, although I wasn’t a fan of him looking slightly scared of Brown, since he’s beaten him in the past. As for Brown, I loved how he had a go at Christian, mentioning how Christian cost him the title and what not. I really thought Brown made this segment, good work.

A pretty good main event, although a lack of time probably heard it a little bit, but it was good to see two genuine big names going at it. I expected Jarrett to pick up the victory, as he is the man who will be fighting for the title come Destination X, and this is exactly what happened. The dirty finish is good though, as it keeps Rhino looking strong to. The aftermath was great with AMW and Abyss having beaten down Team 3D and then taking down Rhino. Cool ending, that actually makes their match at the PPV a little more credible, which is something that was needed.

Overall, the show was okay, nothing overly great, nothing really bad, but just not as good of a read as the first two shows, imo. I also think a lack of some superstars being on the show is going to hurt your PPV build a little to, so hopefully the X Division match, and a few others can get a little more build next week. Anyway, as I said, it was an okay show, but I’d expect something better for a go home show.
