…The year is 2012
…But it will soon be 2013
…It’s Monday
…It’s New Year’s Eve
…The wrestling industry is still dominated by WWE
…But WWE has changed a lot
…It’s not even called WWE anymore
…Let me explain

The Back Story
Wrestlemania 26 (2010) was headlined by one of the greatest matches of all time. Triple H and Shawn Michaels, both fan favourites, put on a 5 star match in front of millions of adoring fans. Edge won the Royal Rumble that year but when Edge chose to face CM Punk, the World heavyweight Champion on Smackdown, instead of Triple H, the WWE Champion on Raw, Shawn Michaels had an idea…

The night after No Way Out started with a bang as Shawn Michaels came out to challenge Triple H to match at Wrestlemania…

(Shawn Michaels and Triple H are in the ring, HBK is speaking into a microphone)

“Two years ago, a very good friend of mine gave me some great advice. He told me that if you want to be the man, you’ve got to beat the man! That man was ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair! At the time, Ric wanted to test himself against the best in the business and that was me. But not anymore, Hunter, you are a 15 time WWE Champion! I haven’t held a World Title in 7 or 8 years! To be honest, I think I’ve got one match left in me. The rumours have been circulating around the locker-room for months. When will Shawn retire? When will he hang up his boots? Well, I can now officially announce that I, Shawn Michaels, will wrestle my last ever match at Wrestlemania 26. Triple H, you’re free at ‘Mania… I’ve got one match left… I want to use that match to become a champion once again.”

And so, the match was made. Shawn Michaels would face Triple H at Wrestlemania 26. Whether he won, lost or drew the match, HBK was going to retire. In a 35 minute classic, both men pulled out all the stops but when Michaels hit a third sweet chin music the match was over. In his last match, Shawn Michaels had won, and would retire as WWE Champion. But he wasn’t the only man to retire that night. Too emotionally wrapped up in the dying moments of the match, Triple H tore his quad again which forced him to retire. The title was vacated and a tournament was held to crown a new champion.

A couple of months later Triple H divorced Stephanie in real life claiming to ‘not love her anymore’. This seemed to back up what many people had been saying for years, that Hunter was using Stephanie to get ahead in the business. Hunter had been hoping to surpass Ric Flair’s 16 World Title reigns but fate forced him to stop at 15. As a result of this, Stephanie has been battling depression and alcoholism for last two years. Triple H won custody of the McMahon-Levesque children because of Stephanie’s alcoholism and depression and he has moved to Australia to keep his mind off his failed goal of 16 World Title reigns.

Wrestlemania 27 (2011) featured a Street Fight between Umaga and Shane McMahon. With Umaga laid out on the ground, Shane started to climb the stage. He jumped off performing the stunt he has done before. However, lady luck was not on his side. Shane failed to land flat on his back and most of the impact of the fall was taken on his tailbone leaving him paralyzed. Shane would have to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Umaga decided to quit wrestling because of this

Linda, who had to look after a paralyzed Shane and an alcoholic, depressive Stephanie, was feeling stressed. Vince was a workaholic meaning Linda had to quit her role in WWE and look after Shane and Stephanie. Vince and Linda became distant which led to Linda having an affair with a 23 year old model called Rafael. Unfortunately, Linda caught Aids from Rafael.

So, on Friday the 21st of December, Vince McMahon walked into his house and Linda had some bad news for him. She told him about the affair and catching Aids off Raphael. He managed to forgive her. Later that night, he had a lot of trouble sleeping. At 3am it suddenly dawned on him, wrestling had ruined his life.

Stephanie’s alcoholism and depression, Shane’s paralysis and Linda’s Aids all have one thing in common. They all would never have happened if Vince didn’t revolutionize American Wrestling. Shane wouldn’t have been a wrestler. Stephanie wouldn’t have met Triple H. Linda wouldn’t have had an affair.

The next morning, Vince phoned his assistant and told her that he is taking a week off work to enjoy Christmas with his family. After this week, he realised that enough was enough and it was time to move on. He didn’t love wrestling anymore and he needed to spend his time with his family.

He sold the company to Richard Branson and WWE merged into the Virgin brand.
6 months earlier Richard Branson had launched his own Sports Channel to rival Sky Sports and Setanta. It was called Virgin Sports. Virgin Sports was available worldwide so everybody knew where to get their wrestling fix. All the PPV’s would also be exclusive to Virgin Sports.

The McMahon era was over… Virgin Wrestling was born!

Notes
- Triple H and Shawn Michaels both retired at Wrestlemania 26
- The Undertaker has not been seen since Wrestlemania 28 where he went 20-0
- Now that WWE has been merged into the Virgin brand, WWE Raw has been re-named Virgin RAW, WWE Smackdown has been re-named Virgin Smackdown and WWE ECW has been re-named Virgin Extreme.
- Monday Night – Virgin RAW
- Wednesday Night – Virgin Extreme
- Friday Night – Virgin Smackdown
- Batista sadly passed away on the 3rd of February 2012. The post mortem showed that the most likely cause of death was steroids. Because of this, WWE made their Steroid policy much stricter than before. Wellness tests were taken every Monday and WWE implemented a Zero Tolerance strategy, firing anybody who tested positive. This spelt the end of many wrestlers including William Regal, Jeff Hardy and Mr Kennedy.

The backstory is really great. Some dark points which I'm not comfortable with, such as Triple H and Shawn Michaels retiring, Linda McMahon catching AIDS and Batista actually dying :-O

I agree with the one who said that putting VIRGIN in front of the Championship names is weird and can't be taken serious. Look at it this way, before the names wan't RAW Intercontinental Championship, SmackDown United States Championship, and so on :)

Looking forward to this. Hopefully the rest of the thread will be just as good as the backstory :)
