Default WWE: Times Have Changed

|| The Backstory ||

WWE Vengeance first arrived on PPV in 2001 and ever since it was an annual event. It was at the seventh annual Vengeance PPV that WWE decided to spice things up, this time around giving it the tagline: “Night of Champions”. What this tagline meant was that at the pay-per-view every title in World Wrestling Entertainment would be defended, this idea was certainly unique. The event was poised to become one of WWE’s best events of the year. Instead, the event that was meant to be a fantastic night for WWE was surrounded by the biggest wrestling news story of the year.

The event was going good, after the World Tag Team Championships and the WWE Cruiserweight Championship were successfully defended the next match, the ECW Title match, would mean that someone would be walking out of the arena with something they didn’t have walking in. It was a dream match in many peoples eyes, “The Straight Edge Superstar” CM Punk took on “The Technical Wizard” Chris Benoit. An ECW Original against a man who many believe would have fit in if he was part of the original ECW, CM Punk.

CM Punk came to the ring, it was then announced Chris Benoit would not appear due to “personal reasons”. The internet was then filled with threads and topics on why Benoit wasn’t appearing. Some news had been released that Nancy Benoit, Chris Benoit’s wife had been killed. It was quite hard to believe, and many believed that Chris Benoit was no attending for that reason. WWE.com soon reported after the event that Chris Benoit had been found dead. Sympathy began pouring in for the former World Champion. Then, many around the World awoke to find the news that Chris Benoit, the once loved wrestler, had committed an unthinkable crime. Benoit had murdered his wife, his son and then hung himself. Night of Champions wasn’t remembered for it’s matches, it was remembered for the Chris Benoit story.

Vince McMahon decided to get on with things, removing everything Benoit related from WWE.com and from DVD’s. One year on from that terrifying news story, WWE has renamed Vengeance to Night of Champions and a lot has changed in a year, Mick Foley who wrestled in the Main Event the year previous was now a commentator, and everything was shook up, this year wouldn’t have controversy surrounding it, this year would all be about the Night of Champions. And it was all about the Night of Champions.

Before the show though, WWE had the WWE Draft, which of course would shake everything up. The results of the draft are as follows:

The WWE Draft Results

Superstars Drafted to Monday Night RAW

1. Rey Mysterio

RAW gained the first draft pick of the night in masked superstar, Rey Mysterio. Mysterio, who since coming to World Wrestling Entertainment had wrestled on the blue brand, Friday NightSmackDown! is eager to experience the new challenge. “It’s a new challenge for me, a new direction in my career.” Mysterio then continued to give his thoughts. “I’m looking forward to it, it was huge being on SmackDown! but now it’s all about being the ‘Biggest Little Man’ on RAW.

2. CM Punk

RAW missed out a draft pick straight after their first one but they won’t mind. Former ECW star and Mr. Money In The Bank, CM Punk was the man shown on the screen, Punk has a great future ahead on WWE but can he cut it on RAW? Punk seems to think so, “You know, I spent a long time on ECW and I loved it there. ECW propelled me to where I am today. Mr. Money In The Bank is coming to RAW, so right now, I want to say to Triple H, Champ, watch your back!”

3. Michael Cole

With the announcers the only ones eligible for the draft pick and the match for the pick being a draw it meant that two announcers would be leaving their respective brands. With Jim Ross heading to the SmackDown! desk, it was then Michael Cole who made his way to the RAW Booth. Cole seemed optimistic, “I’m shocked, I called every SmackDown! show bar two, but it’s like many will feel tonight, it’s a new challenge and I need to really take it.”

4. The Big Show

Next for RAW marked a humongous draft pick, the Number One Contender for the ECW Championship found himself on the way to RAW after he was randomly generated as the next pick. RAW is a familiar ground for the seven foot Monster, “I’ve been to RAW and I’ve beat all that there is to beat and I plan to do that again, when I’m at my best there is not a person in WWE that can stop me and that’ll shine through on Sunday when I bring the ECW Title to RAW.”

5. Batista

RAW just got an animal, the former World Heavyweight Champion Batista became the latest draftee to RAW. Now with Night of Champions approaching could “The Animal” take the title to RAW?Could RAW be in the possession of two belts after Night of Champions? “It’s great, I won the World Heavyweight title when it was a RAW Title and now I’ll be the man to bring it back to RAW.”

===============================

Superstars Drafted to Tuesday Night ECW

1. Matt Hardy

ECW got a big, big pick to kick off their draft picks in the United States Champion, Matt Hardy. The US Title could return to SmackDown! after Night of Champions if Chavo Guerrero can defeat Hardy. Hardy, wasn’t really thinking of that, “I’ve wrestled on RAW, I’ve wrestled on SmackDown! I’ve never wrestled full time on ECW. It’s a big chance for me to prove that I can be a headliner and I fully plan to become one, every Tuesday Night.”

2. Randy Orton

He may have a broken collarbone but it doesn’t mean that he is exempt from the WWE Draft, and he isn’t, Randy Orton, the former WWE Champion has been drafted to ECW. ECW picks up another major star and Orton is just as eager to become a Champion on ECW like he was on RAW. “I beat everyone there is to beat on RAW, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Triple H, Jeff Hardy, you name them, I’ve beat them. And now, now I have been drafted to ECW. Well, you know what that means right? It means that I, Randy Orton, the third generation superstar is going to do exactly what he did on RAW, become Champion.”

3. John “Bradshaw” Layfield

The big picks for ECW keep rolling on, The millionaire Texas, and self-proclaimed “Wrestling God” JBL will now be plying his trade every Tuesday Night on Sci-Fi. JBL is a former Tag Champion, World Champion, Hardcore Champion and United States Champion to name a few but he has never been ECW Champion and he plans to become ECW Champion in the near future, but not before ranting about claims that his wrestling career is going down-hill. “Ha, I do not know how people can actually sit back and think that I am going to retire again. I am the best this company has to offer and I will prove once again that I am a true “Wrestling God” when I become the E…C…W Champion!”

4. William Regal

The former General Manager of RAW and his power-abusing ways will no longer be a part of RAW, weather they will be a part of ECW remains to be seen. Regal, who was fired on RAW recently, was eligible for the draft but on one condition, that condition being that if Regal were to be drafted he would not be drafted on RAW, after all he was a free agent. We tried to contact Regal but the Englishman seems to have turned the lights out on his career and can’t get them back on again. Can Regal bounce back on ECW?

5. Charlie Haas

ECW’s final pick of the evening was Charlie Haas. Haas, a former WWE Heat regular was last seen helping Mr. McMahon give out millions of dollars on RAW, on that night Haas was kissed by two divas, the lovely Maria and… Mae Young! Haas looks to find himself as an athlete again on ECW after what happened on RAW, “What happened on RAW was shocking, but now I’m on ECW and the laughs and the jokes are over, when Charlie Haas comes onto your TV, you better get serious, I’m getting serious, if you don’t, then you will be in for a shock.”

================================

Superstars Drafted to Friday Night SmackDown!

1. Jeff Hardy

Talk about a high-flying first draft pick, “The Rainbow Haired Warrior” finds himself on Friday Nights and it is no secret that he is looking forward to it. The former Intercontinental Champion is setting himself up for a charge at Edge’s World Heavyweight Championship, “You know, it doesn’t matter to me what show I am on, I go out there and give it my all and SmackDown! is the place where I will be doing that every Friday Night, I hope and believe that SmackDown! is the place I win my first World Title.”

2. Jim Ross

The veteran (now) former RAW announcer switched desks with Michael Cole during the draft. At first JR was seemingly unhappy with the move but now he seems to be all for it, “I’ve been on RAW for such a long time, now SmackDown! is my home, I aim to put my own trademark to it, because now JR is not the voice of RAW, he is the voice of SmackDown!”

3. Umaga

I have a suspicious feeling that everyone on SmackDown! is hoping that they are drafted to RAW or ECW in the Supplemental Draft because The Samoan Bulldozer from the Isle of Samoa has arrived at Friday Night SmackDown! The former Intercontinental Champion isn’t one to shy away from competition so there is no hope, in well hoping that Umaga forfeits a match. Either, you run, or you take a beating. We tried to get a word with Umaga but we couldn’t quite understand him.

4. Mr. Kennedy

“Kennedy!” has come to SmackDown! again. The loudmouth was embroiled in a feud with Paul Burchill but now he finds himself on his former stomping ground, the place where he made his debut for the WWE. Kennedy, seems as cocky as ever, and he firmly believes a title is in the near future for him. “It’s no secret, the World title is coming to Mr. Kennedy, The name emblazoned on that belt will be the name of the best superstar in WWE… Mr. Kennedy… Kennedy!”

5. Triple H

The stipulation of the final WWE Draft Pick was that the last person to be eliminated from the Battle Royal would go on the brand that the superstar who eliminated you is from. Edge won the Battle Royal and eliminated Triple H with a clothesline, Triple H knew he would now be a SmackDown! star, looking to send a message he then gave Edge a big pedigree as a warning shot. “It’s Time for SmackDown! to play The Game” in Triple H’s words.

===========

With all of that done I have decided that the Supplemental Draft that took place on WWE.com will be made in a new post and posted soon, after that the Night of Champions results will be posted (just like Wrestler A defeats Wrestler B and a description of the finish not the full show) then the final rosters, then the RAW Preview and then RAW will be a full show

Aj1992: Thanks for the feedback, and like above it's appriciated.

The Recap

For those wondering, the ECW and RAW Shows that would’ve took place have the same results as the actual shows, as I said I will begin writing full shows after the Night of Champions.

- WWE.com

On WWE Monday Night RAW, the WWE was “shook up” as it where as the WWE Draft 2008 took place. On the Draft each WWE Brand was permitted five superstars who would be drafted to the show randomly. WWE.com announced before Monday Night RAW that after RAW there would be a one hour and a half long Supplemental Draft where fifteen superstars would be drafted, one for every ten minutes. This meant that just like what happened on RAW that Monday Night RAW, Tuesday Night ECW and Friday Night SmackDown! would all receive five draft picks. It was also announced that tag teams would be drafted together and not separately. The Supplemental Draft results are as follows:

WWE Supplement Draft Results

Superstars Drafted to Monday Night RAW

  • Montel Vontavious Porter (drafted from SmackDown!): The former United States Champion and WWE Tag Team Champion Montel Vontavious Porter today is the first superstar drafted to Monday Night RAW. MVP, who claimed to be the “highest paid superstar in SmackDown!” history is now looking to fit in with RAW’s Superstars, it’s safe to say that “The Franchise Player” is out of his comfort zone.

  • Mike Knox (drafted from ECW!): Since joining the ECW Brand in 2006, Mike Knox has dominated every opponent that has stepped in his way, recording wins over ECW Originals such as Stevie Richards, Tommy Dreamer and Nunzio and he has also racked up wins against newcomers like Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne. Now Knox can be seen on Monday Night RAW, every Monday night, can Knox dominate his way through the RAW Roster?

  • Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins (drafted from SmackDown!): Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins shot to fame as it where when they helped their “leader” the “Rated R Superstar” Edge win the World Heavyweight Championship at Armageddon. Hawkins and Ryder have since become an influential part of La Familla and have helped World Champion Edge out of some sticky situations. Now, the two are on their own on Monday Night RAW. Can Hawkins and Ryder show their skill in the ring and become World Tag Champions on RAW?

  • Natalya (drafted from SmackDown!): When Natalya made her first appearance on Friday Night SmackDown! many long-time SmackDown! fans came to the conclusion that she came from a “famous wrestling family.” But she didn’t have any skill, but boy how she proved them wrong. Natalya has dominated her way through the toughest SmackDown! divas such as Michelle McCool and Cherry. Now on RAW, can Natalya prove any lurking doubters wrong once and for all and become the WWE Women’s Champion.

  • Elijah Burke (drafted from ECW!): Elijah Burke has not appeared on ECW television for several weeks, the reason for this was that Burke had suffered an ankle injury. During this time Burke proved he was an ass-kicker at writing a blog on ECW.com, but during his time on ECW Burke proved to be an in-ring ass-kicker too, almost winning the ECW Title many times, now Burke aims high on RAW. Can the final draft pick for RAW become a huge RAW Star?
============================

Superstars Drafted to Tuesday Night ECW

  • Shad Gaspard and JTG (drafted from RAW!): Yo, yo, yo, yo! Pop a 40 and check your rollie, it’s Cryme Tyme! Brooklyn! Brooklyn! That’s right, Cryme Tyme are now the new members of the ECW Roster due to the WWE.com Supplemental Draft. The auctioneers have made some good deals with our fans for wrestler items such as Lita’s personal belongings but as it turns out JTG and Shad are just as good in the ring, coming close to tag gold on many occasions. Now on ECW everyone on the roster will be keeping their items under lock and key.

  • The Great Khali (drafted from SmackDown!):Run and Hide! The seven foot Punjabi Giant, The Great Khali has been drafted to ECW! Khali who since coming to WWE has destroyed every wrestler in his path including the retired Undertaker now finds himself back on ECW after a short spell in 2006. Can Khali rise to the top of ECW like he did as Champion on SmackDown?

  • Chuck Palumbo (drafted from SmackDown!): Chuck Palumbo has been a force to be reckoned with since coming to WWE last year, Palumbo was known for customizing his motorbikes that he rides to the ring but Palumbo was quick to show us his other talent, wrestling and not only wrestling, his ability to subdue his opponent in the ring and pick up a victory. Now on the Land of Extreme can Chuck carry his ability to ECW?

  • Super Crazy (drafted from RAW!): The luchadore has been on the end of several defeats on Monday Night RAW so this move to ECW could be the chance Crazy needs to re-ignite the fire as it where. Crazy is a former ECW Original so he should feel right at home, Crazy is Crazy as his name suggests, he has jumped off everything you can imagine and if he has to do it again to get to the top of ECW, he will.

  • Paul Burchill and Katie Lea (drafted from RAW!): This past week on RAW, Paul Burchill managed a pinfall victory over Paul London. After the match Burchill told everyone that he was “The Most Dangerous Man on RAW.” But now he will go to ECW with his sister Katie Lea, can Paul back up his claims on ECW and become the first British wrestler to ever win the ECW Championship? Paul Burchill marks ECW’s final Draft Pick of 2008.

================================

Superstars Drafted to Friday Night SmackDown!

o Snitsky (drafted from RAW!): He has already scared everyone on the RAW and ECW Rosters since returning as a yellow-toothed, bald-headed Monster. Snitsky now finds himself on Friday Night SmackDown! Snitsky however has never managed to terrify his way to the top of RAW or ECW can he climb all the way to the top of SmackDown? Or will someone be man enough to step in his way?

o Armando Estrada (drafted from ECW): Armando Estrada was on “top of the World” as it where, in his eyes. He was power-hungry and he was the General Manager of Tuesday Night ECW. He then tormented Colin Delaney for several weeks, putting him in matches with stars such as Big Show, Kane and The Great Khali and he would only earn an ECW Contract if he won. Estrada was then finally beaten by Delaney and when Theodore Long took over on ECW, Estrada was jobless, to earn a contract Long put him in several matches at a time but he could not win. This move means that Estrada has an official WWE Contract, to his relief.

o The Highlanders (drafted from RAW): The Scottish duo of Rory McAllister and Robbie McAllister made their WWE Debuts in 2005 and came close to winning World Tag Team Gold on several occasions. Now on Friday Nights they aim for WWE Tag Gold, can they do it? Well they say “Aye, they will.” But it remains to be seen.

o Shelton Benjamin (drafted from ECW): Shelton Benjamin is a great athlete, there is no doubt about that, but despite having a lot of talent Benjamin has never been able to capture any of the three major titles. He couldn’t win the WWE Title or the ECW Title but now he sees the World Heavyweight Championship in his grasp in the near future.

o Santino Marella (drafted from RAW): The cocky Italian has been making joke after joke on RAW but in the ring he has failed to pick up many victories. Marella suffered a defeat to new RAW Star, The Big Show on Monday’s RAW and as he left the arena he met another new RAW Star Rey Mysterio, after calling Mysterio “Batman” Rey threw Marella out of the arena door, ending his spell as a RAW Star.

Mr.R: Thanks again, and I'm glad you are looking foward to it

After WWE’s Draft Show on Monday Night RAW and the Supplemental Draft the following Wednesday everything was going well heading into the Night of Champions. The Game looked like he was about to reach the ropes when suddenly Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins appeared on the other side of the ring on the apron, the referee approached, Edge then held the rope further away from Triple H’s grasp and then Edge delivered a big right hand to “The Game”. Triple H tried to come back to his senses after the attack but Cena pulled The Game to the center of the ring and after a minute or so Triple H tapped.
