Backstory

The date is Wednesday 25th June 2008 and since June 2002 the WWE has been seperated by two brands ; Raw and Smackdown.

Through critism and praise Vince McMahon has stuck to his guns by keeping the WWE's two entities Raw and Smackdown seperate and thus forging a very successful WWE empire.

However, though Raw and Smackdown still pull some of the best ratings on television, Vince still looks back on the 1999 and 2000 days were WWE would regularly pull ratings of 5.0 and 6.0+ week in, week out compared to the 3.5 average of 2008 and wonder, 'What went wrong'?

Fans have hoped for another boom period in the industry for years but nothing has ever been imitated of the attitude era. Something is lacking. A cutting edge. Something, Extreme.

So as of May 1st, Vince called an emergency board meeting with he, the writers and all other big-wigs. He had a vision in mind. The 3 hour+ long meeting concluded, with Vince and the rest reaching a decision that 'ECW' would return as a brand alongside Raw and Smackdown.

Through-out the course of the month of May Vince had racked his brains and carefully thought through his course of action. At his desk nonstop and having his chief writers watch old ECW tapes intensively, he was in the right direction for ressurecting the land of the extreme once again.

By May 20th Vince had already landed a TV deal with the sci-fi network, this raised a few eyebrows but never the less the fans were thrilled with the thought of a third brand. Shows will air every Tuesday He had also been active with hiring talent - a number of ECW originals had been re-signed :

The Sandman - 1 year contract.
Tommy Dreamer - 18 month contract.
Justin Credible - 6 month conract.
Balls Mahoney - 1 year contract.

In addition to this, WWE.com announced that a number of individuals had been assigned to ECW ;

Nunzio
Stevie Richards

WWE.com broke this story 4 weeks prior to this date and have since been hyping up the debut of the show (2nd Tuesday After Vengeance). A spokesperson has commented that WWECW will be as extreme as ever, and the general consensus in the WWE believes that the show will be used as an escape from the poor product at the moment.

I like the backstory, this BTB sounds interesting. The roster is a lot like the current WWECW roster, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. I hope you bring up some more guys from OVW/DSW/FCW.

I've read through the back story, rosters etc, and I'm impressed. The lay-out is exceptional, and this BTB has a lot of potential, which can easily be fulfilled. Good luck, Red Jon!

Red Jon! You need to give yourself more credit. I will admit the back-story wasn't the best but it was far better than it seems you are letting yourself believe and for your first attempt at writing one and doing a BTB it couldn't have started in a better way.

You have said everything that needs to be said in the back-story and thats basically what they are all about. So son, you definetely have potential its just up too you fulfilling it

Red Jon's Note - After a difficult period of time in my life of which BTB really wasn't concentrated on as much as it should, I believe that I can carry on the process of this BTB. I will do my best to get this up and running by the second Tuesday after Vengeance.
