Monday Night RAW; April 14th, 2008; Colorado Springs, Colorado
We are treated with a nice video package as RAW starts showing the happenings of last week. It shows Mr. McMahon interrupting Randy Orton's choosing of his opponent to make a huge announcement. The announcement being the Fatal Four Way in the main event to name a number one contender, it then shows the rest of the story, showing John Bradshaw Layfield lying bloodied in his own locker room, it then shows Orton admitting it with Cena confronting him and then Regal making a NO DQ match between the two for this week, it then finally shows Shawn Michaels hitting Sweet Chin Music on John Cena to be named Number One Contender.
The video finishes as we are treated to a spectacular display of pyrotechnics, the camera pans around the arena trying to capture every screaming WWE fan it can.
Jim Ross: We are only little under two weeks away from Backlash, we welcome you to Monday Night RAW, coming to you live from Colorado Springs, Colorado! I’m good ole’ J.R, Jim Ross, here at ringside with The King, Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, and, , what a show it’s gonna’ be.
Jerry Lawler: I have to agree with you, what a night it’s gonna’ be! We’ve got the intercontinental championship on the line when Chris Jericho takes on Paul Burchill… AND….Carlito! And not only that but we have a NO Disqualifications match in the main event between WWE Champion, Randy Orton and John Cena!
Jim Ross: Speaking of Randy Orton, new number one contender Shawn Michaels will be out shortly to talk about his win last week. And King what a win it was.
Sexy Boy erupts onto the PA System as the Colorado crowd go crazy, he comes out to a thunderous ovation as he is dressed in a suit finished out with a cowboy hat. He walks around the ring to receive a microphone before rolling into the ring waiting for the crowd to die down.
Shawn Michaels: It feels great to be back in Colorado!

Shawn Michaels: Last week I was placed in a number one contender’s match, I was probably the underdog, since I didn’t get a mention all damn night. But you see whether I’m the underdog or the clear favorite to win… …I always….Steal the show!

Born Naughty hits as the RAW General Manager comes out to some heat, he is in his usual black suit and gives a look at the crowd before bringing his microphone to his lips.
William Regal: Firstly, it’s Mr. Regal to you and anyone else, secondly why in the hell should I let someone like you be guest referee?

Virtual Voodoo hits as the ‘Samoan Bulldozer’ Umaga makes his way to the ring, he looks at Regal who is smirking as Michaels looks on. Umaga makes his way to the ring..
Shawn Michaels: Wait just a damn second Regal, how am I supposed to wrestle when I’m in a suit?
William Regal: Enough with the damn excuses Michaels, you couldn’t say
one simple word, so now you have to face Umanga and
if you win you’re special guest referee, now get this match underway!
Match #1
Shawn Michaels vs. Umaga
If Shawn wins he is special guest referee for tonight
Shawn quickly gets momentum in the early going Super Kicking Umaga off the apron, Michaels can’t capitalize however as Umaga is on the outside, the referee gets to a count of 8 as Umaga groggily gets into the ring.
Umaga gains the upper hand shortly after and has Shawn in the middle of the ring on his knees as he has locked in the nerve hold, Shawn’s hand starts to cramp as he tries to make a fist to get the circulation going. The crowd try to will Shawn back into the match as he starts pounding away with elbows to Umaga’s midsection as Umaga releases the hold. Shawn then quickly manages to knock the big man off his feet after
THREE CLOTHESLINES!
As both men struggle to their feet Shawn quickly flips to his feet the crowd pop as he starts tuning up the band, Umaga gets up but as Shawn tries to hit the Sweet Chin Music, Umaga hits him with a big boot, only getting a two count.
Umaga dominates the match for another 5 minutes keeping Michaels on his knees but its not long before HBK manages to find an opening, he pounds away at Umaga trying to knock him down but as Umaga stays put, Shawn somehow hits
SWEET CHIN MUSIC OUT OF NOWHERE!!! Shawn quickly covers, 1..2..3!

Jim Ross: Well now we know we will have a special guest referee, refereeing the main event match tonight, and that man is… ..Shawn Michaels!
Jerry Lawler: Yes, and Michaels has a huge advantage over Randy Orton for tonight as he can allow Cena to be the daily high hell out of him, heck he could even join in. It is a NO Disqualification Match but with Michaels as the referee you never know.. ..He may make it normal rules for Orton!
Jim Ross: And I wouldn’t be surprised if the ‘Heart Break Kid’ did do that, as Orton deserves it as he was the man who put Michaels on the shelf so many months ago… ..Ladies and gentlemen we cut to a commercial break but stay with us as Monday Night RAW continues!

When we return from the break Santino Marella is in the ring and is with his partner Carlito, Santino has a microphone and begins to speak.
Santino Marella: Last week me and-a Carlito beat the stupid Holly Hardcore and tonight Cody Rhodes it’s a your turn!.. .. So come out-a right nows and we will see who is betterer than me and you!

Cody Rhodes: Hell to this-
Cody drops his microphone and runs into the ring laying out Santino and Carlito with clotheslines respectively. The referee makes Carlito leave the ring as the second match of the night kicks off.
Match #2
Cody Rhodes vs. Santino Marella
Cody takes advantage right away as Santino gets up from the clothesline, Cody runs at Santino and hits another clothesline before stomping on Santino’s midsection, as Santino shouts at the referee to stop him Carlito slides into the ring, as the referee checks on Santino. This gives Carlito enough time to hit a very quick DDT on Cody Rhodes.
Santino takes advantage of this chance and builds some momentum of his own laying in some Groundin’ ‘n’ poundin’ on Cody. Santino lifts Cody up but Cody quickly hits a snap scoop powerslam. Cody climbs the top rope and waits for Santino to get up, Santino then grabs onto the referee stopping Cody from attacking.
Santino yet again distracts the referee long enough for Carlito to push Cody off the top rope, Santino quickly climbs the top rope Cody fell off and hits a diving headbutt. He pins Cody for the 1..2..3!
Winner: Santino Marella
Jim Ross: Santino stole one! He stole the victory, Cody had this match won if it wasn’t for Santino’s partner, Carlito!
Jerry Lawler: I don’t condone their actions ‘JR’ but it got the job done tonight and that is all that matters.

Todd Grisham: I am joined at this time by WWE Champion Randy Orton
(Crowd boo), Randy... ..I just wanna’ get some words from you for your match tonight?
Randy Orton: Tonight… ..I get to injure someone I’ve already injured, in fact that’s the damn reason I’m WWE Champion!
(Licks lips) But tonight I am in a No Disqualification Match just little under two weeks away from Backlash. And hell, I could get injured – Especially with Shawn Michaels as Referee

Randy Orton: And Michaels, since you’re giving out threats, let me give you one of my own,
if you even
try to pull anything funny tonight, I would be hesitant to nail you with a RKO. You see Shawn, I want you to get a taste of what’s going to happen to you, come Backlash.
Orton walks away leaving the camera on Todd Grisham who looks on.

Kennedy vs. DH Smith
Kennedy dominates from the early going and doesn’t lose any momentum at all. Kennedy locks in a armbar on the rookie, DH Smith. Kennedy screams at DH Smith to quit but he doesn’t. Kennedy releases the hold and brings DH to his feet before offloading lots of lefts and rights on the rookie.
Kennedy then dominates for another 3 minutes. He places DH in the bottom corner as he runs against the ropes and hits the facewash! Kennedy smirks as the crowd boo. Kennedy lifts up the disorientated DH Smith and nails him with a DDT. JR asks why Kennedy doesn’t just finish it, King says he’s making a statement.
Kennedy gets on the top rope and hits the Kenton Bomb. Kennedy smirks and then lifts up the hurt DH Smith before hitting the Greenbay meatpacker. Still Kennedy wont finish it, he then picks up the near unconscious DH Smith and hits the Mic-Check. He then finally pins DH Smith for the win.
Winner: Mr. Kennedy
Kennedy stands up in the ring and smirks before gesturing for his microphone to be dropped from the ceiling the crowd boo Kennedy as he grabs the microphone and brings it to his lips.
Mr. Kennedy: What you all just witnessed right there…Was a preview of Backlash! Punk you better be watching because come Backlash I will take the Money In The Bank Briefcase from you! I can hear it now, “

Jerry Lawler: You’re right about that ‘JR’ Backlash will be a night you won’t want to miss, not only do we have those matches that JR just talked about but we also have the returning Rob Van Dam teaming up with his long time friend – ECW extremist…Tommy Dreamer! And they will both take on The Miz and John Morrison for the WWE Tag Team Championships!
Jim Ross: Now talking about championships, we have a championship match right here on Monday Night RAW, and that’s on later on tonight when Chris Jericho defends his Intercontinental Championship against Carlito and Paul Burchill!
Jerry Lawler: And what a match that will be partner!
(Voices changes to excitement) But next we have Melina taking on the lovely Maria!

Melina vs. Maria
The crowd are all behind Maria in this match as she gets some early offence in, in the early minutes of the match. There isn’t much she can do to hurt Melina but she tries. She has Melina on the floor and tries dragging her to the corner to try and work some offence in there but Melina overpowers here and brings her to the floor.
The little mistake for Maria is all Melina needs to gain some momentum, she stomps away wildly at the midsection of Maria, as Maria screams in pain. Melina grabs Maria by the hair and starts screaming at her. She pulls her up by the hair and hits a DDT on Maria. Melina pins Maria but surprisingly only gets a two count. Melina’s rage gets the better of her as she lifts Maria up and swings a punch. Maria ducks and hits a Neckbreaker. Maria covers but only get a 2 count.
Maria is weary of Melina and allows her to get up instead of dragging her up, Melina’s rage takes over yet again and she runs at Maria who is in the corner, Maria ducks and then quickly makes the roll up!! 1…2…3!!!
Winner: Maria
Jim Ross: A shock victory for Maria who was being dominated in this match-up, if it wasn’t for Melina’s rage, I think she would of won this one.
Jerry Lawler: You could be right partner, Melina dominated the whole match really but he rage got the better of her, she should of played it cool and took her time…It cost her in the end.

We see Triple H backstage as he has a patch over his forehead, probably cost from the five knuckle shuffle last week. He has shades on which cover his eyes as he is in jeans and has a Triple H T-shirt on. We see him walk into the office of William Regal.
Triple H: Why don’t I have a match tonight?... ..You leave the best damn superstar on your roster off the card?... ..What
good General Manager does that?

Triple H: Yes, hell… ..I’ve thought in much worse conditions then this…

William Regal: Hmm…Triple Haitch you may be in luck, I had John Bradshaw Layfield in here earlier tonight and he was asking for the same thing, so since you both don’t have a match for tonight I will book you in a match against…. ..EACH OTHER!

Triple H actually smiles at Regal before turning around and walking out of the door ready to leave.

Intercontinental Championship Match; Triple Threat; First Fall To A Finish
Chris Jericho © vs. Paul Burchill vs. Carlito
Burchill dominates in the early going knocking the Intercontinental Champion out of the ring, he then proceeds to pound away at Carlito using all of his strength. Burchill throws Carlito into the corner and you can hear the impact of Carlito’s back hitting the turnbuckle with a sickly thud.
Burchill dominates still for another few minutes with Chris Jericho just waiting on the outside allowing his two opponents to tire themselves out. He waits for the right moment and finds it when Paul Burchill hits the Curbstomp. Jericho slides into the ring and tries to throw Burchill out of it but Burchill is having none of it and hits a vicious clothesline. He leaves Carlito lying on the floor as he decides it would be more of a statement to beat the champion.
After a few minutes of being pounded away at Jericho manages to reverse a clothesline attempt, he then runs against the ropes and hits a bulldog, Carlito gets up as Jericho
NAILS HIM WITH THE CODEBREAKER Jericho smirks and waits for Burchill to get up before also nailing him with the Codebreaker, he knows that Carlito is more likely to tap so
LOCKS IN THE WALLS OF JERICHO ON CARLITO! Carlito taps out!
Winner: via submission and STILL Intercontinental Champion; Chris Jericho!
Jim Ross: What a performance by Chris Jericho here tonight! He did good to stop the onslaught of the much more powerful, Paul Burchill and win the match!
Jerry Lawler: Jericho did brilliantly tonight to keep his Intercontinental Championship, if he keeps defending it like that I don’t think we will have a new champion for a long long time!
Jim Ross: Well folks join us after the break were we will have exclusive interviews from Shawn Michaels and Randy Orton, and not only that but we have Triple H versus John Bradshaw Layfield.. ..AND… ..Randy Orton versus John Cena in a No Disqualifications match.

When we return a video starts playing immediately it shows Michaels sitting on a seat with a black sheet behind him.
Interviewer: You and Randy Orton have some past history, would you care to talk to me about that?
Shawn Michaels: The kid is talented I will give him that.. ..But he has a lot to learn. Lesson number one Randy, you never.. ..NEVER mess with ‘HBK’ Shawn Michaels.. ..Lesson number two, come Backlash I’m taking that title from you and putting it around my waist!
Interviewer: …Erm… You didn’t.. ..Err.. ..Answer my question.. ..
Shawn Michaels: Oh sorry,.. ..History? erm.. ..He took me out, he cheated to keep his title against me.. ..3 times, he made Regal ban my finisher from being used.. ..Now if that doesn’t name a coward then I don’t know what would, Orton doesn’t deserve to be WWE Champion.. ..And come Backlash he won’t be!
Michaels gets up off his seat and walks away as the camera stays on for a few short moments.. ..Before it then plays another video with WWE Champion Randy Orton sitting on a chair.
Interviewer: Maybe you might answer my questions.. ..Can you tell me your thoughts on facing Michaels at Backlash?
Randy Orton: Shawn.. ..I hope you’re watching this.. ..Can you remember when I took you out?.. ..Is there a fire burning inside you wanting to get out?.. ..Well let it!.. ..Because even when that happens I will still beat you and I will still make a statement out of you!
Interviewer: (looking scared) Erm.. ..You didn’t answer the question..
Randy Orton: SHUT UP!!
(smirks) You know what they say Michaels.. ... Actions speak louder than words..
Orton dives off his seat onto the interviewer and pounds punch after punch into the poor mans head, he stamps on his midsection before waiting for him to get up. Orton is seething at the mouth when.. ......HE DELIVERS THE RKO! The interviewer drops to the floor and doesn’t move a muscle as Orton picks back up his microphone.
Randy Orton:(Panting) Come..Backlash, Michaels..That’s.. ..Gonna’ be.. ..YOU!
***Cut back to commentary desk***
Jim Ross: (In a low tone) Sickening stuff what we seen from Orton, that just shows how far he will go to make a statement and get what he wants.
Jerry Lawler: Orton doesn’t care who he hurts to get what he wants, and as you could see there neither man cared about the interview they both wanted to mouth out to each other!
Jim Ross: Well I hope Orton pays for his actions.. ..
(In a more happy tone) Join us after the break as Triple H takes on John Bradshaw Layfield and when John Cena and Randy Orton go at it in a No Disqualifications match with Shawn Michaels as referee!

Triple H vs. JBL
Both men have a bandage on their forehead, JBL’s for getting attacked by Orton and Triple H for wrestling last week. Triple H has the most of JBL in the opening of the match, punching away at the wound on JBL’s forehead. After JBL manages to escape from a Pedigree attempt, he awaits to hit the Clothesline From Hell but is greeted with a Spinebuster.
Triple H dominates for even longer until JBL pushes him into the referee, making an opportunity for JBL to get a steel chair from the outside, he swings it towards Triple H as the King of Kings ducks, Triple H tries to pull the chair off of JBL but is kicked in the gut and then has the chair slammed against his back and then his forehead.
The referee recuperates as JBL waits for Triple H to get up before bouncing off of the ropes and goes for a Clothesline From Hell, but, again Triple H ducks, but as JBL hits the ropes again he manages to hit the Clothesline From Hell nearly taking Triple H’s head off, he covers Triple H for the win.
Winner: John Bradshaw Layfield
JBL looks down at Triple H and smirks before receiving a microphone from the outside, despite his win he still seems pissed off.
JBL: Last week what you saw Orton do was a cowardly act, and something you NEVER do to a WRESTLINGGGG...ah.. ..GOD!
Crowd give heat to JBL
JBL: Shut up, when I’m talking!
Even more heat for JBL
JBL: Now Orton, I bet you thought this act would go.. .....Unpunished?.. ..Well your wrong! Y’see, nobody and I repeat nobody lays their hands on JBL, so next week Orton I want you in a match, so Cena you better not injure him tonight.. ..Because I want a piece of him.

Jim Ross: Some strong words from John Bradshaw Layfield for the WWE Champion, he wants Orton in a match, next week!
Jerry Lawler: And for the first time in my life I think I actually feel sorry for Orton.. ..I mean, tonight he faces John Cena in a NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH!.. ..AND....Then he has to face JBL next week! Lets hope he’s fine enough to compete at Backlash.
***William Regal’s Office***
JBL: Regal, sorry to barge in on you like this but I-
William Regal: You want a match against Randy Orton next week..I heard it all John, but listen.. ..I don’t think I can do that.. ..
JBL: What the hell do you mean? – How not?!?.. ..Orton attacked me last week and he is going to get away with it?
William Regal: I never said that.. ..It’s just that he has a No Disqualifications match this week and having him in a match against you next week is dangerous an-
JBL: Damn right it’s dangerous now book it!
William Regal: Don’t interrupt me John. As I was saying its too dangerous, with less than 2 weeks away from Backlash I just can’t do it.. ..But I can do something else.. ..
JBL:(Looking pissed off) And what can
you do?
William Regal: You both pick a segregate for next week and the two of them square off, and if your segregate wins I guarantee that you will face Orton the RAW after Backlash.
JBL: I’ll do that – Only if you make it that if my segregate wins I get a match with Orton the RAW
before Backlash.
William Regal:(thinking) You drive a hard bargain, deal.

Main Event
Randy Orton © vs. John Cena
No Disqualifications Match; Non-title
Shawn Michaels is special guest referee
Orton has been dominating even though Michaels has been
slightly biased for Cena. His counts for Cena are always a few seconds faster than what they are for Orton and he allows Cena to keep moves locked in for longer than Orton.
It’s not long before Michaels pisses off Orton as Orton shoves his out of the way and tells him to get lost, Orton starts to strangle Cena’s throat on the bottom rope with his foot, he turns around cockily back to Shawn Michaels and
IS MET WITH SWEET CHIN MUSIC!! Michaels shrugs his shoulders, as he rolls out of the ring and gets out a table and a steel chair.
Cena recuperates in the ring and see’s what Michaels is doing, he allows Michaels to get in the ring with the chair as Cena goes and gets the table from the outside, Michaels tells Cena to lift Orton up, and Cena does as Michaels
SLAMS THE STEEL CHAIR ACROSS HIS SKULL He tells Cena to FU him through the table and Cena does, Cena hooks the leg as Shawn Michaels makes the fast count for Cena.
Winner: John Cena
Michaels raises Cena’s hand into the air as Lillian Garcia announces Cena as the winner, Michaels walks over to Orton’s lifeless body as he smirks. He points to the WWE Title and gestures that come Backlash it’s his.
Jim Ross: What a match we just witnessed with Shawn Michaels the number one contender getting one over on WWE Champion, Randy Orton!
Jerry Lawler: He sure did! And you know that Randy Orton won’t like that!
Jim Ross: Well, I’m Jim Ross and for my partner Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, We wish you a goodnight!
