Royal Rumble 2005 Review

I've never reviewed any show fully, so bear with me

Orton/Edge - Phenomenal match. Reminded me of the amazing match these two had in April 2007, where Orton got busted open pretty bad too. Anyway, the match felt epic with desperate kickouts and the interferences. i woulda have put it just near the main event, but it got the crowd (and me) going.. So all's good
Rating: 9.5/10 (Loved this match)

Rey& RVD/Team 3D - Not a fan of any of the four, but ir served a purpose with tons of cool spots. Ring Post 619??? I'm there. Nice that Rey and RVD getting the big win.
Rating: 7/10

JBL Promo - Tremendous promo. JBL is a heel magnet.
Rating: 9/10

Shelton/Y2J - Good match, i would have started the show with that match, but since Shelton is not that over, the crowd would have died at the start. Solid technical matchup. Cool pin reversals in the middle. You got all of their trademark moves right like Benjamin's leaping Belly to Belly, Swinging Heel Kick and Backbreaker. Good clean finish, which won't hurt Y2J by any means. But i dont like the out of nowhere kind of finishes.. And Bulldog is way too 80's for me..
Rating: 8/10

Cena/Booker segment - A good segment with their history toghether. Also nice to see Booker is actually concerned about the US Title and made a reference to it.
Rating: 8/10

Cena/JBL - Good match between the two. But i'm surprised that cena lost clean since he is the no.1 guy in the business. JBL was so dominant in this one with his usual stiff styles. Not sure why you actually push JBL so strong in this match by making him kick out of couple of F-U's.. Maybe a WM with a biggest dog in the yard looming?
Rating: 7/10

Royal Rumble - Great Rumble. Eddie came out as the 1st entrant, similar like the real one in 2005. But got eliminated pretty quickly by Michaels. Good angle advancement with HBK/Eddie, Shelton/Jericho. Regal getting eliminated pretty quickly is very funny indeed. Shelton and Angle had great showings. Sort of passing the torch aliminations like Batista on Triple H and Cena on Undertaker. The final two had a great showing. I was rooting for Batista. lol
Rating: 9/10

Overall: A MOTY and a fabulous Rumble to cap off a great show. Only negative point i can say is JBL's superman push. But its your BTB and i have no say in it.. Great Job
Rating : 8.75/10

RKO920's Review
Orton vs. Edge- MY GOD. What a match. I felt like i was watching this live with all the near falls. I really thought Edge was going to win at one point. Good way to build Edge up, while having Orton retain. I like the end with the fans appluding too.
Backstage- Lol at Angle owning Flair. Classic
Rey and RVD vs. Dudleys- I had a feeling rey and rvd would win. Solid filler match. A ring post 619?. Hm. Sounds intresting.
JBL Promo- This is why i love JBL. His promos are amazing. Terrific promo.
Shelton vs. Jericho- This is a match where the crowd would be "wooed" the whole time" YOu delevired that. Solid face pace match. Damn i really thought Jericho would go over. I wonder what your plans are for him.
Backstage- Ah TLO and Bischoff. Hm Eddie and HBK feud??
Cena /Booker promo- This had me thinking Booker would help Cena win. Anyway good promo.
Cena vs. JBL- AWESOME MATCH. I dident think you would have JBL go over clean though. The end of the match would the fans and cenas emotion was great.
Royal Rumble- Seems like your devolping a Eddie vs. HBK feud. Eddie looks like he could be the heel right now. HAHAH at them all elimanting Hassan. Nostalgia moment. HHH and batista!?!?! I wonder what happens with those two and flair now. Cena is in the rumble?! Mark moment. I like batista and cena as final two as nostalgia again. Good move having cena win as now it can be HHH vs. Batista and Cena can become a legit main eventer.
Overall- I liked how Cena went from being a U.S. title contender to a legit contender in one night. MOTN was Orton vs. Edge by far.
9/10

Default Re: WWE 2005: A Fresh, New Start

I Must say JBL the opening video for this PPV was fantastic. Liked it all. Brilliant thought of the Officers been Wrestlers Concept. And the fact that you used the three prime people who are in the main event (JBL, Orton, Cena) made it even more interesting although you should of used edge instead of HBK. Anyway brilliant opening to what seems like it is going to be a good PPV!!
Opening with the world championship was way unexpected , although it is a good match to start the rumble and to get those fans and us reading it into a good mood. Great opening match and well written. Orton getting bust open in the first few minutes was a real surprise but I think it was well done as you would then think orton would loose the championship. Orton and Edges near falls were good and then at the end with Tomko interfering I thought it was over. Orton retaining is good and something I saw happening. This feud is fresh (For 2005 anyway) and I like it and cant wait to see where you go with it. Tomko, Christian and Edge a Stable ???

Great promo between Flair and Angle. Angle mixing things between Flair Trips and Tista can only mean something BIG is gonna happen tonight at this PPV. Anyway hope Angle is one of the 6 still in the rumble at the end!!! Next up WWE Tag Team Championship match. As I predicted this would be a high flying contest and it was. Nice chemistry between both team although I didn’t like the cheating that the Dudleyz were doing but I would class them as heels. Nice seeing RVD and Rey retain although something tells me they will lose there gold at No Way Out. WOW JBL is on fire tonight. I believe that he will be retaining the WWE Championship because Cena has been on too much of a role lately. Something he said about Leasner make’s me think that Leasner will be returning very soon.

Great match between the two here. Well positioned on the card aswell getting us pumped up for the next match which is for the WWE Championship. Some insane spots that I liked but I think this one was the best ‘LEAPS CLEAR INTO THE AIR AND ONTO THE TOP ROPE WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE AT ALL, GRABS JERICHO, AND FLIPS HIM OVER WITH AN OVERHEAD BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX OFF THE TOP ROPE!!!!’ What made this match so intresting is the fact that you didn’t know when it was going to finish (Apart from the writing which gives it away). A great #3 match and looking forward to Smackdown’s main event and the Rumble match. Something might happened between these two at the rumble though!!!!

Good few filler Promos here. The Eddie and Eric was classic I feel though that Eddie will be getting drafted over to raw to feud with Eric. Cena/Booker getting along well I though Cena would of took Bookers advice and chucked it back in his face but he seemed to take it with a pinch of salt.

The start to this match was brilliant I liked all of Cena’s offence but I think it kind of give it away that cena wouldn’t be walking away with the championship. This was a OK match but I don’t think it matched Raw standard’s simply because it was all cena then all JBL towards the end. I knew JBL was walking away with the WWE Championship. I just think now that Cena will either enter the rumble with Edge OR start a feud in which he has a match at Wrestlemania. Explosive Evolution possibly seeds for a match between the three are going to be planted tonight in the rumble.

Royal Rumble Time--Well there is no better way to start than having the two main eventer from last years main event. Nice to see Jobber Richards didn’t stay to long in the rumble. Kidman could of lasted longer in the rumble but oh well. I think Angle aswell as Michaels could be possibilities to win this thing looking at what I have read so far LOL at Michaels and Eddie could there possibly be a feud starting between these two and a match at WM21?ROFL at Hassan. There is definitely going to be a match between these two at Wrestlemania like the way Gurrero turned heel in the matter of seconds. Nicely Done. Cena winning well I kinda knew something big was going to happen and I quote

Overall brilliant PPV delivered quite a few surprises aswell and I loved all of them. You can tell that some of these surprises will lead into matches at Wrestlemania and those I cant wait for. Overall MOTN was easily Edge vs Orton

Royal Rumble Review

In regard to what you said before posting the PPV, I want you to know that I hope you can at least get to WM21 with this BTB. You are a very good booker and I hope everything works out for you.

Very interesting take on the opening video for the show. I liked that ‘Orton’ and ‘Cena’ were the two cops because they were the brightest stars in early 2005. Everyone fighting and then Vince coming out and saying that they need to go to the arena for the Rumble. I thought that the part with the great RR moments could have been longer but it was a good opening nonetheless, imo.

Going along with the trend of Wofly’s last RR, as well as KOM’s latest RR … a World Championship match gets the show started. I think that this is bigger than Cena-JBL and maybe the WWE Title match should have opened instead. These two have had great matches in the past … so I expect this to be no different. Good to see the action spill to the outside early and Edge gets the upper hand by throwing Orton into the ringpost, busting him open!! Edge has been dominating during the opening minutes and the headlock really took a lot out of the TLK, imo. The dropkick after the attempt from the top by Orton sounded pretty sick and gave the momentum back to Edge. These two have taken a lot out of each other and now Orton hits the backbreaker!! Only a two count was good but now I see a bunch of nearfalls the rest of the match. Edge got the momentum back but then Orton comes out of nowhere … RKO!!! Sorry to see that he couldn’t capitalize and now the match is up for grabs. Pulling out all the stops as Orton kicks out of the Spear and Edge kicks out of the impressive DDT off the middle rope. Tomko coming out to help Edge was shocking but I knew that Orton wasn’t getting pinned after that. Edge is in control until … SECOND RKO OUT OF NOWHERE!! Orton retains the title in a great match. ****

Classic Raw vs. SD smack-talk is good and here comes NAITCH!! I hated Flair as a heel with Evolution, just hated how much of a jerk he was. Angle is a solid tweener and should be turning face very soon, imo. Angle owns Flair and talks about all the backstage stuff with Triple H … and then making Flair think Batista was behind him was very funny. I see Angle vs. Flair or Angle vs. Triple H after this altercation, and either one is great.

The tag team feud between Mysterio/RVD and the Dudleyz has been very good the last three weeks and this is a perfect match for the Royal Rumble PPV. Rey and RVD are amazing as a team and they are able to dominate the greatest tag team of all time in the opening few minutes, which was kinda surprising, imo. D-Von is able to come back against Rey and the Dudleyz now have the momentum and get a few nearfalls, nothing too big this early. Mysterio is able to kick out of the 3-D!! Huge 619 to Five Star for the win by Rey and RVD!! This match was never really in doubt because Rey and RVD were awesome as champs and it was good that they beat someone so legendary. Very good match, many good spots. ***

JBL was on fire in this promo and he made some very bold statements. Having the Cabinet banned from ringside is good because we get to see Cena and JBL without any interference. Looking back, JBL’s title reign was damn impressive and he made a point to talk about his wins compared to John Cena’s. JBL usually delivers and I still think that he will retain tonight, somehow, as it isn’t quite Cena’s time, imo. You write JBL very well … maybe it’s because of your username.

Shelton and Y2J had a very good feud after WM21 in real time, and this feud has been very good. I like that they have a match over the IC Title and are also both in the RR. Jericho slapping Benjamin across the face to start just adds to his inevitable full heel turn. Shelton doesn’t take well to that tactic by Jericho, and the IC Champ dominates the opening few minutes. Shelton doesn’t do much to get a three count, nothing big anyway, and Jericho gets a few nearfalls as well. The belly-to-belly off the top rope by Shelton sounded sick and that was a very good way to kick this match into high-gear. Jericho hit some pretty cool moves but Shelton won’t stay down!! Shelton gets out of the Walls of Jericho by grabbing the bottom rope!! Shelton is able to stay on the top rope after Jericho launches him and Shelton gets the surprise pin!! Ending was a little spotty as the bulldog didn’t seem like it would do much damage, but a very good match nonetheless. I hope that this feud continues, but it probably won’t go until WM21. ***1/2

When did Eddie have an encounter with Batista?? Good exchange between Eddie and Bischoff, with some obvious hard feelings from their WCW days. Eddie has a good shot at winning the RR match, but HBK seems to have something to say about that. Could this be a little preview of a WM21 match?? I REALLY hope so, would be awesome.

Nice little segment between Cena and the Book Man, especially surprising since they just had a big feud not that long ago. JBL is scheming something for sure, and I don’t see Cena getting past the numbers that JBL has.

That was a GREAT video package to hype up the WWE Title match. Cena and JBL have only been in a feud for three weeks but I see the feud lasting until WM21, and it should be an epic one. Cena attacks JBL before the match begins!! Cena is taking it to JBL, really showing his hunger for the title. The bell finally rings and away we go!! Cena is running through the moves of DOOM~! … F-U!!! JBL kicks out!! Knew Cena wouldn’t win the belt there but JBL kicking out was impressive, imo. Cena dominates a little longer until JBL rakes the eyes and finally grabs the advantage. Good back and forth … with Cena and JBL both getting nearfalls and then Cena is able to stay alive in the sleeper hold. JBL nails the CFH … but CENA KICKS OUT!! A ton of huge moves don’t keep either man down and this is getting very interesting. JBL kicks out of the F-U once again!! Cena just won’t stop coming … BUT JBL KICKS OUT OF THE F-U AGAIN!! JBL is an awesome champion and here we go … CLOTHESLINE FROM HELL!! JBL is still the WWE Champion!! Very good and action-packed match and didn’t really have a dull sequence. I have a problem with JBL kicking out of the F-U three times … I know he is supposed to look strong and kicking out once is OK … twice is a stretch … but no way it happens three times. Other than that, this was a solid match, although not as good as Orton vs. Edge. ***1/2

Evolution seems to be having some more problems. Batista is playing the perfect tweener at the moment, although I don’t see anything big happening in the match tonight … even though no one from the group is going to the main event of WM21, imo. Give this a little more time … before we get HHH vs. ‘Tista at WM21. Very intriguing storyline, has got me hooked.

I can’t really think of a better way for the RR match to start … Eddie and Angle are two amazing choices. These two have such good chemistry in the ring and seeming them for only a minute and a half is still worth it. Jindrak is here to help Angle but I don’t see Eddie going really early. Here comes my pick … Christian!! Richards is only in to get eliminated by Angle … should be the first of many for ‘The Wrestling Machine’. HBK!! Three amazing guys in the ring early and I guess we will see the dynamic between Michaels and Eddie early … no problem with that!! Jordan has a chance to last maybe ten minutes and I was disappointed to see Kidman go so early … I guess the Angle Alliance is too strong. Shelton is in the match but … Eddie is eliminated by HBK already?!?! Sad to see Eddie go out so early … I thought he really had a shot at being in the final four. There goes OJ and now we got Show in the match, and he eliminates Jindrak very early. Hassan should do much better in this RR than he did in the real 2005 one … hope he lasts a while. Well there goes Hassan already and Angle is tearing through guys from the start. NO~! Christian gets eliminated by Benji!! I hope that CLB still gets a great push into WM21. Y2J get eliminated only about a minute into his time in the match?? Not that big a fan of these big names going so early but w/e. Bookman got off to a very good start by dumping that piece of garbage Conway. WOOO~! Naitch is here!! Now we got ‘Taker!! Big names are on the way, seeing as Flair and Undertaker have just made their way to the match. Big Show gets dumped by a plethora of guys … something I don’t have a problem with because I think that is lame when just one guy dumps the 500-pounder. Glad that Naitch got his first elimination … Bashams are useless, imo. Kane comes into the match but that is overshadowed because Eddie is back … and he ELIMINATES HBK!!! I guess the feud between the two is coming for sure and I was just kinda surprised to see that Eddie will be playing the heel … hope it works. The BOD get rid of Benji but the IC Champ had a pretty good performance, eliminating Y2J and Christian. Tajiri and ‘Taker kinda work together as Tajiri spits the mist and Deadman dumps Booker out of the ring. And there goes Tajiri … Angle is still a beast. Business has just picked up~! Here comes The Animal~! London and Rey come out and now the ring is really starting to fill with competitors. Triple H!! There goes Luther … Angle is all alone now. Angle eliminates Flair … and then Kane!! Angle is like a man possessed!! RVD comes out and I know he and Rey will work together as a solid unit. Jobber Basham #2 leaves courtesy of Batista. Eugene!! Where is he?!?! Eugene is letting someone take his spot … AND IT’S CENA!!!!!!! Shocking to say the least, very nice surprise in this huge match. Cena eliminates ‘Taker!! Cena dumps RVD!! And there goes Rey … courtesy of Cena!! Regal and Tomko get dumped and now we only really have studs left in the ring. Triple H and Batista get into it … and there goes The Game!! Batista vs. Triple H at WM21 for sure as it seems like the alliance may have finally been broken. ‘Lito is number 30 and now we have the final four … Cena, Angle, Batista, and Carlito. I liked that you had a few minutes before Carlito got eliminated by Angle because I knew he wouldn’t make it to the final three but I didn’t want Cena, Batista, or Angle gone before CCC. All three men are on the ground and after nearly an hour of being in the ring … Angle gets eliminated!! He had a huge run and I really want to see him face Flair at WM21 … would be a very good match. So just like the real 05 RR, we are down to Cena and Batista. Great back and forth between the two young studs and I really didn’t think Batista had a chance because he is obviously feuding with HHH but the final exchange was great … AND CENA ELIMINATES BATISTA!! CENA WINS~!! This was a shock to say the least and I guess we are guaranteed to see Cena vs. JBL II … probably as the main event of WM21. Very good RR match … up there with the best I have read. ****3/4

So all in all … this was an amazing PPV and I was very pleased with the first full PPV that I read from you. Cena coming back and entering the RR was a nice touch and I think some will find it unrealistic for him to win after going through a match earlier but I loved it. You have the potential for some feuds heading into WM 21 (HBK vs. Eddie, Triple H vs. Batista, JBL vs. Cena and Angle vs. Flair) and I have NO idea where you are going with Orton and the WHC. Again, top notch read and I hope that this continues through WM21 … if not longer, 92/100.

Thank you to those who have reviewed so far. I'll keep track of those who I owe reviews to, and the first opportunity I have to return most if not all of them, I won't take it for granted and I'll take it. Anymore are greatly appreciated, and will be returned in full. Much thanks again, I felt I put a lot of effort into the PPV, first full one in a very, very long time.

With that said, my attention is now drawn to 'Mania. The next PPV, No Way Out, will be posted in full, without a doubt. And then it's clear sailing to WrestleMania, which I hope to make huge. I'll schedule to post RAW next Wednesday the 5th, and then it's on from there.

Cheers.

Monday Night RAW Preview for January 31, 2005

24 hours removed from an historic Royal Rumble, an historic edition of Monday Night RAW will take place that promises to be an explosive one.

It has been announced that due to John Cena, a SmackDown superstar winning the Royal Rumble, that a Road to WrestleMania Tournament will determine who will face World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton at WrestleMania 21 on April 3rd. The four quarterfinal matches of this tournament will take place on RAW this evening, and they are huge matches in themselves. Those matches are:

Shawn Michaels vs. Shelton Benjamin ----
Christian vs. Triple H ----
Batista vs. Kane ----
Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair ----

Coming off being illegally eliminated by SmackDown's Eddie Guerrero, Shawn Michaels will have his try at once again main eventing WrestleMania just like he did last year. He will however not go in facing a cupcake challenger, as he will face the current Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin. Being that these two have displayed tremendous athleticism throughout their careers, long or short as they may be, an amazing match should come out of this, and word going around is that this will open the show.

Another major happening in last night's Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View was the surprising leave of Evolution by Batista. Eliminating Triple H, Batista forcefully left -- this time for good -- and lasted until John Cena last eliminated him after proving to be a hot commodity. Batista will have his hands full in his quarterfinal match against Kane, a man who is hell bent on raising hell on the way to WrestleMania 21 in Hollywood. Will Batista's hotness continue, or will it go up in smoke courtesy of The Big Red Machine? Tune in to RAW to find out.

The second half of that turn, Triple H, cannot be happy heading into tonight's RAW. Being that Batista was a long-standing member of Evolution since it's beginning days, the leave could cause problems for The Game. However, as we've seen in the past, when The Game gets heated and angry -- there may not be a man who can touch him in the ring. But Christian his opponent may be ready to begin a great road to WrestleMania, and a great way of doing that is by taking out one of the greatest superstars of this generation. This match will be the main event of the evening, and it should be a good one.

All this -- plus World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton making an appearance -- on RAW.

***

RAW = Posted Wednesday folks. Reviews are still greatly appreciated for the Rumble, and will be returned in full once I get an opportunity to, which should be over the course of this week.

Looks to be an awesome RAW; the four qualifing matches are going to be inthrawling. HBK-Shelton is one I am most looking foward to. And sorry about the lateness of the RR Review ... tomorrow definatly.

Raw preview has me pumped for what should be a great show. Road to WrestleMania tournaments are always a good idea and you have some amazing matches lined up. VERY suprised that Edge won't be a part of it but HBK vs. Shelton and Christian vs. Triple H should be great matches. A review from me for sure when the show is posted!
