Re: WWE 2005: A Fresh, New Start
WWE RAW Preview for January 23, 2005
Just six days away from the Royal Rumble, RAW comes to you live from JR's hometown of Oklahoma City.
Last week, RAW closed with Randy Orton walking out of Toronto unharmed, after defeating Christian in the main event despite efforts from the challenger to Orton's World Title, Edge. This week, Edge and Orton will be standing across the ring from one another in a six man tag team match. Orton will team up with Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin as well as Shawn Michaels to take on Edge, Christian and the man who will be facing Benjamin at the Royal Rumble, Chris Jericho!! A lot of egos will be in this match, and being that Christian and Edge have not teamed in almost four years, will they coexist? Tune into RAW to find out.
Also last week, Batista abruptly left Evolution, tired of Ric Flair and Triple H's actions. This week, Batista will face none other than 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair in one on one action. Is 'The Animal' steaming up momentum to the Rumble, or has Batista not left Evolution, and is just doing this as a smokescreen to fool everyone? The world will be watching to see what happens.
All this plus the last of the Royal Rumble Qualifying Matches, all on RAW! Check your local listings.
---
RAW posted tomorrow afternoon.

Re: WWE 2005: A Fresh, New Start
Raw looks very good. The six-man tag main event is a good final hype for the RR and the match between Flair and Batista is intriguing. Did Batista really leave Evolution or are you pulling our legs? I really hope he didn't leave...

Re: WWE 2005: A Fresh, New Start
WWE Monday Night RAW
January 24, 2005
Oklahoma City, OK
(RECAP…sort of)
Jim Ross: Just six days away from the Royal Rumble in Fresno, we are live in the GREAT STATE OF OKLAHOMA, for Monday Night RAW!! Hello everyone, I’m Jim Ross alongside Jerry “The King” Lawler, and King what a night it’s gonna be in this raucous atmosphere.
The King: JR I know you loveeee Oklahoma, and they’ve even made it YOUR day today in the city. But you’re right, tonight’s gonna be one heck of a show.
Jim Ross: We’ve got some huge matches signed for tonight King, and one of them is our main event. A six-man tag team match – World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton, along with Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin and ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels will take on ‘Y2J’ Chris Jericho, one-half of the World Tag Team Champions Christian, and the challenger to the World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble, Edge.
The King: And after last week’s debacle in the main event by Captain Charisma, I’ll be surprised if Edge and Christian can coexist tonight.
Jim Ross: It should be something to look out for King. And also ladies and gentlemen, “The Animal” Batista will be in one-on-one action, after leaving Evolution last week against none other than one of his teachers of the game, “The Dirtiest Player in the Game” Ric Flair.
The King: And that’s going to be HUGE JR! Batista will learn why you don’t just get up and leave Evolution, and why you don’t leave two of the best the business we’ve ever seen in Triple H and Ric Flair.
Jim Ross: Well fasten your seatbelts because just six days away from the Royal Rumble, the action tonight has only just begun.
*Burn in My Light*
The Oklahoma City crowd bathes the World Heavyweight Champion in love as he walks out to the ring looking rather sharp, with the World Heavyweight Championship placed on his shoulder. He raises it up high as the golden shower of pyro rains down from the top of the RAW set. Orton then heads down to the ring, and grabs a microphone given to him by Lillian Garcia.
Randy Orton: Feast your eyes Oklahoma City… because this is greatness…
Crowd cheers
Randy Orton: And in six days from now, at the Royal Rumble. My opponent Edge is going to get the reality check that he should’ve gotten long ago. And that reality check Edge, is going to slap you across the face, and make you realize that you are NOTHING compared to me. That you are nowhere near athletic as me, and damn sure…not as good looking as me…
Cracking a smirk, Orton gets the girls in the front row to yippee, and the others scream their little hearts out
Randy Orton: But more importantly Edge. It’s going to make you realize that this isn’t your time. This isn’t your time to become the World Heavyweight Champion. You see while you’ve toiled in the tag team division for years… and years… you’ve only just begun your singles run here on RAW. But I was bred for success as a singles competitor. I was blessed, with the God given talent that’s been handed to me on a silver platter. But that doesn’t dismiss the fact that I am one of the most hardest workers on this roster.
Orton pauses, nods his head, looking out to the crowd
Randy Orton: And now setting the sights, for the 30th of January…Edge it’s not going to be your night, your time, your day to take this title from me. Instead… you’re going to just be the next man to fall… to “The Legend Killer…”
The crowd cheers, as suddenly *Just Close Your Eyes* blasts through the speaker system. World Tag Team Champions Christian & Tyson Tomko make their way down to the ring, still reeling from the loss last week in the main event on RAW. Orton looks on with a cold stare, but then seemingly invites them into the ring, backing away into the corner. Christian and Tomko climb into the ring, and Christian pulls a mic out of his pocket.
Christian: Cut the music.
Crowd boos
Christian: Randy Orton, first of all. I’d like to say that I should’ve been victorious last week in the main event, and if it wasn’t for some bad officiating, and some bad eyesight, I would have been the one getting my hand raised and not getting surprised by you at the end of the match.
Crowd boos, as Orton doesn’t look too impressed
Randy Orton: Oh is that true Christian? Because I clearly remember, that you had no damn shot at all of winning that match in the final minutes.
Crowd pops
Christian: It’s like this. While I am proudly wearing one half of the Tag Team Titles on my shoulder, you’ve got something I want. You’ve got that World Heavyweight Title – THAT I SHOULD BE CHALLENING FOR. And not my brother!
Crowd boos for the jealous rage of Christian
Christian: I came up in the same ranks as him, and for some damn reason he gets a title shot before me!? That’s the biggest joke since the Sooners lost to Southern California… [crowd boos] just a few weeks ago in the Orange Bowl… in the National Championship Game!!!
The crowd boos the hell out of Christian, as they love their Sooners in Oklahoma
Christian: I was the more talented one of the bunch. I was the one carrying him throughout our days as E&C. I was the one who won all of those Tag Team Tables matches, those TLC matches, because unlike him I didn’t risk my body and my life; I just won the damn matches. But Edge always got his way. Always in fact, back when I was a little Captain Charisma in training…
Crowd begins to murmur as a story is coming along
Christian: Back when I was in training, edge decided one day, that it’d be fun to try and light our dad’s tool shed up on fire. And when he did it who was blamed you ask? ME! I WAS THE ONE, WHO HAD TO GO AND APOLOGIZE TO MY MOM AND DAD, just so he wouldn’t get a bad rap from our parents and could see his whore of a girlfriend. Who by the way Edge, I saw a little on the side when you had been going out for two years. Just thought I’d let you know.
Christian snickers, as Tomko does as well
Christian: But like I was saying Randy, I’m the damn better of the competitors between the both of us. And it’s really not all that hard to realize. So Randy I’d appreciate if you’d go to Eric–
Randy Orton: Whoa whoa whoa.
Crowd pops
Randy Orton: If you think after that story that I’m going to mach down to Eric Bischoff’s office and call off the match at the Rumble. Christian I’m sorry, but that’s just not gonna happen.
Crowd pops, as Christian slams his foot on the mat asking WHY!?
Randy Orton: Because facing you for the World Heavyweight Title is like Jim Ross not wearing a Cowboy hat; it doesn’t make any sense.
Crowd cheers for the JR reference, and laugh at Orton’s joke
Randy Orton: Any–
*Metalingus*
The crowd splits in reaction for the challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship, Edge! Edge stops at the top of the ramp, looking at the ring and at the crowd, and then steps down the ramp toward the ring. He steps up onto the apron once reaching it, and climbs into the ring. Edge gets a mic from a stage hand on the outside, and stands in the center of the ring.
Edge: First of all, you Oklahoma rednecks need to shut your mouths.
Crowd boos hard, no more of a split reaction
Edge: Second of all, Christian. If you were actually smart back in those days then maybe you would’ve been the better child. But I clearly was the better of the two of us. I got onto the football team in our freshman year in high school… you? You wanted to go into the freakin’ chess club.
Crowd laughs, while Christian fumes
Christian: I WAS FREAKING GOOD AT IT! Shut your freaking mouth, you didn’t play a snap in your freshman year!
Crowd lets out an ‘OOOOH,’ as Edge begins to laugh silently
Edge: That may be true… but at least it didn’t take me until senior year to not be a virgin anymore.
Crowd lets out ANOTHER ‘OOOOOH,’ as Christian looks ready to spit out something else
Christian: Well. You... I WAS SHY!
Crowd laughs, as Tomko pats him on the shoulder. Edge looks on laughing
Edge: And hey, bro. Who went to WrestleMania Six? Oh yeah… I did. You sat home with a babysitter because you were too scared of Jake “The Snake” Roberts’ snake Damien.
Crowd lets out ANOTHER ‘OOOOOH’ as Christian bites his lip
Christian: The thing was huge okay! I can’t help what my feelings were. But that doesn’t change the fact that I always was the leading man, in E&C.
Edge: Oh really? Tell me Christian, just what in the hell did you risk when we were tag team partners huh? Did you jump off a ladder to take down Jeff Hardy from getting the belts? Huh? Did you risk your life and limb to go through tables, get hit with chairs and fall off ladders? I didn’t see you do any of that. Hell, I remember half of the time, I had to pick your damn ass off the ground and help you up the ladder to get the belts in all of those matches. So tell me who the real leading man in that tag team is Christian? Why don’t you tell me, because it damn sure wasn’t you.
Crowd cheers for Edge, even after being told to shut up
Edge: I’ve bled, sweat, and cried to get where I am today. You haven’t done a damn thing but throw your cocky creepy little bastard self around to be the Intercontinental Champion a couple times, and be tag team partners with cue ball over here. Since we split up, I’ve gone through two neck surgeries. Not one, TWO! And I’m still standing here today, six days away from the biggest match in my career. And Randy, don’t think I forgot about you buddy.
Edge walks over to Orton, which causes a stir in the crowd
Edge: If you think that Sunday’s going to be a cake walk… then you’ve got another thing coming. Because I’m not going to underachieve, I’m going to beat you. And become the World…Heavyweight…Champion… for the first time in my career!!
Edge glares in Orton’s eyes, who glare right back
Randy Orton: Edge I respect you, and I respect that you’re gunning for this title harder than anyone I’ve ever seen in a long, long time but I’m sorry. The destiny that I carry along with me, will not be halted short at the Royal Rumble. And my destiny to become the greatest World Heavyweight Champion in history… is gonna be too much for you, at the Royal Rumble.
Edge: Well Randy… I’m sorry… but your destiny ain’t going any farther.
Edge strikes Orton suddenly with his mic, and the brawl is on!!! Edge begins whipping his right and left hands onto Orton’s skull, while Tomko and Christian remain in the opposite corner, undecided on what to do. Edge comes out of the corner, and looks at Christian for a long time. The crowd is chanting ‘E&C,’ as Orton suddenly comes out of the corner and strikes Edge in the back with his hands. He takes him and sends him to the ropes, but as Edge comes off the ropes, CHRISTIAN TAKES OUT ORTON!!!
Christian takes Orton down to the mat and begins pummeling him with his forearms, as Edge halts himself and stands over Christian as he is still beating him down. Christian pulls Orton up, as Edge gets next to Christian and the two of them lift Orton in the air and suplex him! The crowd gives a mixed reaction, as Edge and Christian while just arguing with one another, are working together!?
Edge tells Christian something, and he heads to the outside, while Edge gets down and beats down on Orton, as the crowd is chanting ‘H-B-K.’ Christian comes back into the ring wielding two steel chairs, as the crowd now knows what is about to come – THE CONCHAIRTO!! Christian tosses one of the chairs to Edge, who slams it on the mat. Christian holds his in position as Orton is slowly getting up. JR is shouting “DON’T DO THIS, DON’T DO THIS!” as Orton continues to stir.
They’re about to hit him, when suddenly the crowd begins cheering! SHAWN MICHAELS HITS THE RING!! Michaels ducks a swing of the chair from Edge, AND HITS SWEET CHIN MUSIC!! Christian comes charging in, Michaels evades, AND HITS SWEET CHIN MUSIC AGAIN!! Christian goes flying over the ropes, as Michaels riles up the fans who are going absolutely nuts. Michaels helps Orton to his feet, as Tomko helps Christian to his feet.
{Commercial Break}
Raw’s first match of the night was a singles match between Muhammad Hassan and Kane, both whom have qualified for the Rumble. To some surprise Hassan puts up a real fight against ‘The Big Red Machine,’ who himself puts up a good fight of his own to put on a solid opening match. Kane moves into the driver’s seat at the most opportune time and looked to hit the Chokeslam when Daivari got on the apron pulling the referee away. Kane threw Hassan off his grip and grabbed Daivari pulling him into the ring!! However Muhammad surprised him and rolled him up hooking the tights and got the win heading into the Rumble match this Sunday!!!
Hassan quickly rolls out of the ring tugging Daivari on his way out as they quickly back up the ramp before Kane can do any harm. The Big Red Machine gets up off the ground and stares at Hassan and Daivari who have their hands up in victory as they head to the back.
Next up was an interview with Batista, who discussed his leave from Evolution last week. He said he was tired of putting up with the bullcrap that Triple H and Ric Flair always did, and it was going to be for the better of him that he leave Evolution. He then says Flair’s taught him everything there is to know, and will be walking out tonight with a victory.
{Commercial Break}
In a 5 man Last Chance Over-The-Top-Rope Qualifier, Eugene was able to outlast Snitsky, Maven, Sylvain Grenier, and Viscera to earn himself one of the final spots in the Royal Rumble Match. After the match was over Eugene proceeded to celebrate with the crowd, who embraced the beloved superstar to the fullest extent as Eugene is headed to his first Rumble match!
{Commercial Break}
Coming back to the show, Eugene is still celebrating, now in the back along with William Regal, the man who taught him much of what he knows now.
The third match of the night pitted Trish Stratus and Victoria going one-on-one for the Women’s Championship after the previous week, when Victoria pinned the Women’s Champion in a tag team match. The two former rivals went at it for just under 8 minutes, with the Women’s Champion getting the better of Victoria on this night with a Chick Kick to the head.
Backstage, Triple H and Ric Flair are walking towards the guerilla position, as Flair’s matchwith Batista is next.
{Commercial Break}
As much thought going in the two men put on a very good match heading to the Rumble 6 days from now. Flair used much of his tactics and Batista was getting the crowd support during the course of the match. Triple H tried often to get into the midst of things, but “The Animal” knew better and stopped him each time. Learning from the best Batista used some of Naitch’s tactics as well as The Game’s, and went to finish him off with the Batista Bomb – but leaves him alone!? SWERVE~!! Batista helps Naitch up, and embraces with him, as Triple H on the outside comes into the ring, and joins IN!?!?!? EVOLUTION IS AT FULL STRENGTH!
Triple H gets back on the mic, and tells everyone, “ha ha, gotcha,” and goes on to explain that Evolution will dominate in the Royal Rumble, and will go on to Mania to beat the crap out of whoever the World Heavyweight Champion is.
{Commercial Break}
In RAW’s main event, the heels got the better of the faces as Edge was able to hit the Spear on Shelton Benjamin to gain the victory! Chris Jericho, the ‘neutral’ certainly seemed like he was going to be a heel eventually and after the match was done clocked Benjamin with the Intercontinental Championship. Jericho dragged Benjamin up the ramp, leaving Orton and Michaels to Edge & Christian. Christian picked Michaels off the canvas, after being laid out with a clothesline from Tomko just moments ago, and tossed him over the ropes and down on the floor, a precursor to the Rumble match this Sunday where Christian and Michaels would be.
And the last man remaining was Orton, whom Edge was kicking in the corner. Christian turned to Edge, who turned to him as small ‘E&C’ chants were coming out from the crowd. Edge told him something, as Christian then headed to the outside as much of the crowd now knew what was going to be coming eventually. Christian grabbed TWO STEEL CHAIRS, and tossed them into the ring. Edge grabbed one of them off the mat, and Christian wielded the other, as Orton began to slowly get up. Reminiscent of earlier tonight, Edge and Christian both with sadistic grins on their face, SMACK THE CHAIRS ON ORTON’S RIBS FOR A DEVASTATING CONCHAIRTO!!!
Orton crumbles to the mat, as Edge drops down, and begins screaming in his face. Christian stands over, as Edge tells him that he’ll have the belt around his waist on Sunday, and that it’s all over. The crowd is hushed as well as JR and The King, as Edge puts his boot on Orton’s back and raises his arms up, as the show comes to a close.

Re: WWE 2005: A Fresh, New Start
SD Recap Review
Unspectacular but solid opening segment to the show, kinda setting up where this Cena-Layfield thing is headed. With only a ten days before the RR, I would suspect that this feud will continue well beyond that since it’s just getting started.
Don’t know what Long’s mandate was but I doubt it’d be a good enough reason to sanction a gauntlet match, without Layfield having the same treatment.
Angle in the RR match is always a good move, as is a Dudleys-RVD/Mysterio feud.
I’m a little lost as to how Eddie would know who Chavo would be facing, while Chavito would have no idea. Makes no sense. Though I would suspect that it was only a way to get Eddie on the show.
No real surprise to see Undertaker pick up the win. Hopefully we see something develop from this. Maybe a Taker-Eddie feud heading into No Way Out and WrestleMania.
Show in the Rumble? Never a bad idea to stack the RR.
I liked the way the Gauntlet Match (concept) was booked. It buried the Cabinet, but it made Cena look like a monster. One problem I did have with it though is that the OJ and Danny Basham eliminations should’ve been reversed. The visual of having Cena delivering a power move like that, followed by JBL coming out, would’ve been something. But having the Danny Basham elimination in between diluted it a bit, in my opinion.

Re: WWE 2005: A Fresh, New Start
Raw Review
Six-man main event sounds very good … could this be when Edge finally gets the upper hand?? Batista and Flair going at it one on one so soon is intriguing, imo.
Orton talking down Edge and talking about himself as the best on Raw was good because even though he is a face, we get to see some of that arrogance that makes his character so good. I was kinda surprised to see Christian come out so soon, but he did a great job on the mic. Talking about always being overshadowed by Edge was good and I would rather have seen Orton vs. Christian at the RR, with Orton vs. Edge saved for a later date. I LOVED the back and forth from Edge and Christian, maybe leading me to believe that we will see another feud between the two down the line. I thought Orton was gonna get owned by E&C but HBK comes down and takes out both!! Very good opening segment, probably the best promo in this thread since you started it.
Hassan and Kane would be an awesome feud so this match was good. I liked Hassan in the WWE and Daivari was a great manager. Hassan winning with the tights was a huge step in his career … just don’t have about ten guys gang up on him in the RR, like WWE did in 2005.
Good interview from Batista, I am interested to see what happens between him and Naitch tonight.
Eugene in the RR!! Maybe he has a chance of winning … not. Good way to have him qualify though.
Trish is a great Women’s Champion and it was good to see her beat Victoria to retain. I wonder whom you have planned as the challenger to Trish for WM21. She is a dominant diva so I hope the challenger is someone big.
I really thought that the match between Batista and Flair was legit because it seemed like they were split. Batista holding off on the BB is better than having him lay down or some other crap that we have seen. Glad to see that Evolution isn’t over yet and I can see them dominating the RR, but Trips won’t win, imo. Good storyline and I hope it continues to develop.
Not shocked to see the heels pick up the W but Jericho turns heel very quickly?? I knew that he was going that way but the official turn seemed very rushed, imo. Surprised to see Christian throw HBK out of the ring and the ending with the Con-Chair-To was very well done. Edge heading into the RR with the momentum means Orton retains, me thinks.
This was a decent show, JBL. The opening promo made me think this show would be very good but I was sort of disappointed the rest of the way. I really think that this lacked backstage stuff and maybe another promo. Would have liked more detail in the matches, especially the main event. But recaps shouldn’t mean a ton of detail and I really like where this is going heading toward the RR, 7/10.

Re: WWE 2005: A Fresh, New Start
Much appreciated reviews Mac and PatMan. I'll return your review in a day or two Mac. Here's the final SD! before the Rumble. I've created a contest at the end of it, so participate plz. Rumble will be posted on the 25th, btw.
So without any further ado...
***
WWE SmackDown!
January 27, 2005
Little Rock, Arkansas
(RECAP)
Michael Cole and Tazz welcome us to the show after the opening video and pyro, and discuss the night’s events, including an eight man tag team main event featuring the members of JBL’s Cabinet as well as Kurt Angle {replacing Orlando Jordan} taking on John Cena, The Undertaker, Eddie Guerrero and The Big Show.
This week, The Cabinet begins the show. John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield addresses the crowd, reminding them that he is the greatest thing to ever hit the WWE. He toils on about how John Cena is nothing compared to him, and that Sunday is going to be a day of reckoning for himself for the things he has done in the past few weeks, including defeating the entire Cabinet last week. JBL continues on to say that he has zero chance of defeating him this Sunday, and that it’ll be a cold day in hell when John Cena is better than him…
…this brings out the United States Champion!! The crowd thunders as Cena walks out slowly and stops on the top of the SmackDown! stage. The Doctor says that JBL can talk and talk, but Sunday is when it matters. Going on, he says that he’s never been hungrier for championship gold in his entire life than how hungry he is right now at that moment. He then says that tonight he’s gonna get a taste of what’s to come when the eight man tag match occurs.
JBL asks him why he’s waiting until later, and challenges him to come down to the ring. Cena responds by saying he isn’t dumb, and won’t come down there alone… and he brings out Guerrero and Show – his teammates for later tonight!!! They then charge down to the ring, AND A BRAWL ENSUES!!! The crowd is raucous, egging them on as it’s a 4-on-3 right now. Suddenly, KURT ANGLE runs down to the ring, in defense of the Cabinet!! Angle suplexes each of the 3 men he’ll be facing later on tonight, and lets out an epic roar.
He grabs onto Cena’s ankle, WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT!! The crowd BOOMS, as they turn back on – and THE UNDERTAKER IS IN THE RING!! Taker takes out all the members of the Cabinet with a right hand to each of their faces, and then hits a right hand onto Angle as well. The Cabinet scurries out of the ring, while Angle is left in there!! The Undertaker makes a throat slash gesture, before clutching his neck, AND DROPPING HIM WITH THE CHOKESLAM!!! A purple aura hits the arena, as Taker drops down and raises his arm up with his knee bent, as The Cabinet watches on in fright of what could come later tonight.
{Commercial Break}
We return, and in the back Kurt Angle is FURIOUS. He asks the members of The Cabinet just what the hell they were thinking by leaving him in the ring, but they all ignore him! Angle slaps on the wall and continues to demand an answer, but they all head into their locker room. Kurt kicks the door, and then walks on.
In the final qualifying match for the Royal Rumble, Paul London defeated Chavo Guerrero @ 6:15 with the 450 Splash, as London is headed to his first Rumble Match.
{Commercial Break}
Returning, a tag team tables match occurs between Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio, and a surprise opponent named by The Dudley Boyz. The Dudleys came out before the match began, and brought out the team … OF THE IMPACT PLAYERS!! JUSTIN CREDIBLE AND LANCE STORM, ALONG WITH DAWN MARIE come out to a ROCKING ovation from the Little Rock crowd, as Tazz and Cole can’t believe what they’re seeing.
Van Dam can’t believe it either, as they walk down to the ring. The two teams put on an excellent match, reminiscent to the ECW days of old, and the Tag Team Champs prevail!! However, after the match was over, The Dudleys hit the ring with the Champions’ back turned, and hit the 3-D on Mysterio as he turned around!!! Van Dam tried to get involved, but The Dudleys wouldn’t let it happen. Bubba then went to the outside, and brought in a table, as D-Von worked on him in the corner.
The team set it up in the corner, as D-Von then put Van Dam up on Bubba’s shoulders as he went up to the top rope, AND BUBBA POWERBOMBED VAN DAM THROUGH THE DAMN TABLE!!!
{Commercial Break}
A Carlito video promo airs, once again hyping his return this Sunday at the Royal Rumble.
