I'm saying the RR is done. Somehow I managed to finish it in the last few days. Don't really know how, lol.

WWE SmackDown!
January 20, 2005
Montreal, Quebec, CA
(RECAP)

Cole and Tazz welcome us to the broadcast, hyping up tonight’s show with more Rumble qualifying matches tonight.

We kick it off with the number one contender, none other than John Cena. He takes the mic and first welcomes the Montreal crowd to the show, which incites a large reaction from the crowd in the Molson Centre. Cena then goes onto explain that last week was the greatest night of his life – becoming the number one contender for the WWE Championship and getting the opportunity to face JBL for the title at the Royal Rumble. He keeps on toiling, saying he’s a confident challenger, and it will be the defining moment in his career in ten days when he dethrones JBL and becomes the WWE Champion for the first time in his career, also calling Layfield a joke of a champion and a cowardly champion as well when it comes to using his Cabinet to his advantage in each of his title defenses.
This brings out JBL to loads and LOADS of heat; Layfield begins ranting on about Cena having the audacity to call him a joke, and runs off saying him and his ‘side show’ of a title is the real joke that’s in the ring. He goes on to say that he’s a smart champion and that he’s going to notch another gem in his belt when he beats Cena, quite possibly the biggest fan favorite to step into the ring with him at the Royal Rumble, and makes one of his famous guarantees that he will be the one walking out of Fresno, still the WWE Champion. Cena responds… BY THROWING HIMSELF ONTO HIM!! Fists fly, as The Cabinet then rolls down to the ring, when Cena high tails it and points to his head as he backs up towards the dressing room area up the ramp. He gestures that the title will be around his waist very soon, as JBL is furious never the less in the middle of the ring.

{Commercial Break}

Coming back to the show we see The Cabinet yelling at Theodore Long in his office, when T-Long decides to finally shut them up and ask them why they came barging in. JBL speaks up and demands that Cena be put to the test tonight, for doing what he did a few minutes ago.
The General Manager asks him what being ‘put to the test’ means, and the WWE Champion says that he be put in a Gauntlet Match against the members of The Cabinet in the main event. Long reluctantly agrees, citing the ‘spirit of competition’ mandate put into SmackDown! just a few weeks ago.

Kurt Angle, coming off the loss last week in the Triple Threat WWE Championship Match, earns himself a spot in the Royal Rumble match by forcing Funaki into submission. Kurt gets on the mic afterwards and says it’s going to be a bittersweet end for the 29 other men that are in the Royal Rumble match, because he’s winning the whole damn thing… “oh it’s true.”

{Commercial Break}

The Dudley Boyz take on a jobber team, and beat them rather easily. After the match, Rey Mysterio comes through the crowd and leaps onto the top rope, and goes to splash on Bubba Ray – but he sees it coming and catches him!! He goes to powerbomb him, but Rob Van Dam comes out of NOWHERE and comes flying off the top rope and hits a HUGE sidekick!
D-Von comes into the picture, but Van Dam hits a big spin kick on him, and stands tall in the center of the ring!! He helps Mysterio up and outside of the ring, as the Tag Team Champions get the upper hand going into their match with The Dudley Boyz at the Royal Rumble.

Backstage, Chavo Guerrero is interviewed about his qualifying match tonight. He says that he doesn’t know who his opponent is, but whomever it is is going to be merely a stepping stone for him to get into the Royal Rumble Match. Suddenly, his UNCLE EDDIE comes into the picture to a MASSIVE reaction from the crowd. Eddie said he better not take anything lightly tonight…

…because he’s facing The Undertaker!!

{Commercial Break}

Following the break Chavo seems to be pleading with the referee, when the lights go out and The Deadman begins his long walk to the ring. The Undertaker makes quick work of Chavo, who tried to fight off everything The Phenom gave him, but it was just too much for the former multiple time Cruiserweight Champion, and ends it off with a Tombstone Piledriver, catapulting him into the Royal Rumble Match.

We see John Cena getting himself prepared for The Gauntlet Match later on in the night.

{Commercial Break}

Coming back, another Carlito promo airs, setting his return for the Royal Rumble up.

Backstage, Layfield talks to all of the members of his Cabinet, telling him they had better soften Cena up real good and beat him down, making easy pickens for him at the Rumble match.

The Big Show wins himself a spot in the Rumble match, walking all over Billy Kidman in less than four minutes. The World’s Largest Athlete seemingly sent a message to the rest of the members of the Rumble match that he would have his presence known come Sunday the 30th.

{Commercial Break}

John Cena walks out to a pretty resounding ovation from the fans, for the second time tonight just moments before his shot at the Gauntlet. The first man to come out – one half of the Basham Brothers, Doug Basham. Doug puts up a pretty solid effort, and Cena does as well, firing on all cylinders and eventually hitting the Five Knuckle Shuffle, followed by an F-U to plant the first victory down at the 6:11 mark.
Next man to come out – Orlando Jordan. Jordan sprints down to the ring and tries to surprise Cena by going wild with his fists, but Cena doesn’t get caught off guard at all. Cena powers Jordan up onto the top rope in the corner, and then heads himself out to the apron, AND HURLS JORDAN OFF THE TOP, THROUGH THE COMMENTATOR’S TABLE, WITH A SUPER F-U!!! The crowd goes absolutely APE SHIT, as Jordan is LAID out, and Cena heads back into the ring with his hands up. The referee meanwhile is making the ten count, and Jordan cannot get up to answer the count of ten!!!
So lastly, Danny comes down to try his luck, but all is too much, as he succumbs to an F-U, as Cena beats The Gauntlet!!!

*LONGHORN* then hits and the WWE Champion walks out looking absolutely furious. Cena in the ring asks if he’s surprised, and JBL gives him a disgusted look and can’t really even say anything. Cena goes onto salute him, and say that what everyone just witnessed was a test of his heart and perseverance and it’s gonna be his time at the Royal Rumble. Cena drops the mic and clacks his fists together making the double horns, as his music begins playing the show out, while we see JBL still looking very angry at the top of the stage.

END SHOW

Bradley's Smackdown Review

I understand this is in recap so it won't be as long as a full review would be and I need to get acquainted with this thread as this is my first review. I will be making a few assumptions and predictions in this review as well.

Seeing as how this is 2005, JBL/Cena is very fresh and rather intuitive but I really can't see JBL winning the match because Cena is just a better name to be going in to 'Mania but, then again, you could be going for the majestic, first time, win. Cena's words seemed very powerful but he was still in rapper mode at this time, he could have pulled out a rap as he still seemed in Marine mode throughout the segment (are you changing his character because this means so much to him, if so, good idea). JBL should have came out WITH his cronies as that is what JBL does and he never gets in a one on one fight, a good reaction at the end but it would have made more sense for Cena to get beaten down by the Cabinet because he looks too strong right now.

Interesting 'spirit of competition' rule. I hope we see a lot of great matches, starting with the Gauntlet.

Nice build up for the Rumble with Angle hyping himself up, still don't think he will win though I think he will come VERY close. I do hope he gets some direction soon.

The tag match at the Rumble looks supreme, kind of hoping for a stipulation to be added *tables* but it was nice to see the faces on top, leads me to believe the Dudleyz will win. It is always nice to see someone properly push the Dudleyz.

Ha ha! Very funny segment here, Chavo's face would have been priceless here but I hope you give Eddie some direction after The Rumble (maybe he can win?) but I don't see Chavo winning this one. I was right... Undertaker probably shouldn't be at the main event unless he LOSES. I don't want a world title match to be so predictable like we have seen the last 2 years in real life.

Carlito returns, now THAT'S COOL!

JBL giving a pep talk is all well and good, he is his normal cowardly self here so that is fine but it is easy pickings not pickens, just thought I would point that out.

BOO at Kidman getting jobbed but I guess it isn't 2002 anymore so I am fine with it but I mark for Kidman so a CW title shot wouldn't go amiss.

It was nice to see Doug get a good showing to last 6 minutes with Cena but Jordan deserves to be jobbed so I liked that he got completely owned there. Danny losing was rather obvious but I don't really care about obvious (apart from 'Mania) JBL coming out was expected but I would have liked to have seen a bigger ending because it just seemed a bit anti climatic but a solid recap and I can't wait for the Rumble

I liked this way of opening the show. Loving this fresh rivalry on smackdown (scene as though it is 2005). I see you are now getting cena out of the rapper mode to make his gimmik more mature (thumbs up on that one). Strong words from Cena but can he back it up. Personally I would of loved for JBL to come out to the ring with his little crew of creeps and they beat down cena but the other way round just gives cena a lot of momentum. I don’t see you putting the belt on Cena just yet as he needs a really good match to prove that he is main event quality. So I sense that Cena’s momentum will be stopped by JBL at Royal Rumble and that Cena will feud with some big star leading upto and at Wrestlemania.

Gauntlet match is good booking but I see it getting out of hand very very quickly Angle in the rumble great. That is another good Main event star that could easily win the Rumble. Having hyping it up makes me hyped up even more!!

Dudleyz over the Jobbers just gives them momentum for a few minutes before Rey & RVD come and take that off them. Cant wait for their match at the rumble. Taker back is only going to=Ratings. Chavo jobbing to taker. To right. Taker in the rumble. Oh My god what a rumble this is turning out to be.

Cena winning the gauntlet is very surprising. Thought you would of given JBL some momentum back to Obviously not. Doug’s jobbing=Ratings. Jordan put through the table. I sense that he wont be there next week but instead at the rumble will cost Cena the championship and cena will take it out on Jordan at No Way Out.

First off, just a few words. Sorry if I get things wrong as I'm not up to date with this thread. My reviews are not extremely long, just short and sweet and to the point. I will say things I like and things I dislike, etc.

Liked the first promo as it is hyping up their upcoming match at the Royal Rumble, which I see Cena winning. The gauntlet match for tonight should be awesome and I can see a possible beatdown tonight.

Kurt Angle vs. Funaki, didn't like this, I would of preferred Angle facing someone more over, but not too over.

Mysterio and RVD get one other on the Dudley Boyz but at the same time the Dudley Boyz gained abit of momentum from the win in their match against a jobber team. I hope a stipulation is added, like table, ladder and chairs?

LOL at Chavo facing The Undertaker, I can imagine his face now. Pleased to see you didn't boot Eddie out of the thread as some people do this even though it was before his death. Chavo vs. Undertaker will be a squash with The Undertaker taking the win, imo.

Big Show owning Kidman, not cool I like Kidman, but you gotta build up The Big Show. So whatever!

Nice main event with Cena picking up the win looking strong, maybe a little too strong? He might lose now? Hell who knows! The ending was abit weird, I thought that JBL would run to the ring and attack or something?

Final thoughts, your Royal Rumble is shaping up nicely mate. I'm really looking forward to the WWE Championship Match, the WWE Tag Team Championships Match and the actual Royal Rumble. The whole card looks solid. This show was excellent and I like the recap form, which is something I do in my BTB's. Recaps > Full imo. I would rate this 9/10 to be honest.

Smackdown Review

Cena starting the show was the best option, imo. He is the new #1 contender and he needs to be heard in this feud. I like Cena playing to the crowd and bringing up the fact that JBL uses the Cabinet to his advantage. Cena talking about winning the title makes me think that he won’t because the feud has not been going on long at all. JBL coming out was expected and I liked how you had him fire back, calling the US Title a joke. I would have liked for Cena to maybe fire back once more before starting the brawl. Cena making the smart move and rolling out of the ring seemed a little off, but I guess it makes sense.

Cena facing the Cabinet in the gauntlet? Obviously this won’t include JBL but it is a good move nonetheless. I like the ‘spirit of competition’ line from Teddy, should be an explosive main event.

Angle over Funaki was never in doubt. I gotta believe that Angle will be one of the last four in the Rumble, if he doesn’t win the whole thing.

Two squashes in a row? Dudleyz winning was good for the feud and I LOVED that Rey and RVD got payback for last week. This has the potential to be a very good tag team feud and I see this being the first real test for RVD and Mysterio.

Chavo being arrogant is expected but Eddie telling him that it will be Chavo vs. Taker is huge!

Chavo pleading with the ref is pretty funny but of course the match goes on. Taker wins rather easily and I am disappointed that we haven’t seen a truly competitive match yet. Glad that Taker will be in the RR and not in some boring match. I don’t see him winning as he has already feuded with JBL. I hope he gets a very strong feud for Mania.

CCC returning is great for Smackdown. Can’t wait for the RR!

Layfield talking to everyone in the Cabinet won’t make them do any better in the main event. I see Orlando putting up the toughest fight but Cena wins this rather easily.

Another squash? Big Show in the RR always makes him a favorite but like Taker, I don’t see a RR victory in his future. He is not a big enough name, imo.

Surprised that Doug lasted so long to start, but Cena wins in about six minutes. This is where I thought you lost a little realism. Cena should never have done this SUPER move to Orlando. The only time Cena should be doing something that big is when the feud is rather personal, like he did to Edge at SNME in 2006. I see that this may send a meesage but it made Orlando look way too weak and I just didn’t like it. Cena wins the gauntlet by beating Danny and he has the clear upperhand heading into the Rumble, another sign that he probably won’t be winning the belt just yet.

This was an average show, imo. I know that it was a recap and it is giving the RR some build, but I was disappointed. The JBL vs. Cena storyline progressed fine but nothing else really happened. I didn’t like the gauntlet so much and I thought maybe a tag team match would have worked better, with Cena maybe teaming with Eddie against JBL & Orlando. Good build toward the RR, but nothing spectacular, 6.5/10.
