WWE Friday Night Smackdown! (Recap Edition)
-January 18th, 2008
-St. Louis, Missouri

“Rise Up” and the usual pyro goes off to start the show. Michael Cole and Jonathan Coachman run down the card for tonight's program, including a huge 6-on-5 tag team match pitting Wang Yang, Undertaker, Batista, Ric Flair & Big Show against Edge, Hawkins, Ryder, Khali, Jamie Noble & Shannon Moore.

In the center of the ring is the World Champion Edge. The Cutting Edge is set up in the ring. He says that he can go on about how he's gonna beat the Big Show in nine days at the Royal Rumble, but words couldn't describe how big of a butt-kicking Show's got coming to him. Edge claims that he can beat Big Show one-on-one in a singles match and that the only way Show got the better of Edge last week was because he was backed up by Ric Flair (Pop) and the Undertaker (Pop). Edge then introduces his guest, the No. 1 Contender to his World title, the Big Show. “Crank It Up” hits and Big Show marches down the ramp and towards the ring. As Show climbs over the top rope and into the ring, he tells them to cut the music. The music cuts off and Show starts talking about the fact that he can beat Edge at anytime, any place in any type of match. This gets Edge riled up. He takes off his glasses and puts up his guard. Big Show drops his mike and prepares to face Edge. Suddenly, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder come from behind and club Big Show in the back! The three then stomp down on Show. Suddenly, out run Ric Flair and Batista! They slide into the ring. Edge flees and Flair and 'Tista beat down on Edge and his cronies. After the beatdown, Flair and Batista stared at Edge, who backs up the ramp with his world title.

---*COMMERCIAL BREAK*---

Backstage, RVD is talking to a few staff members. He's holding the Hardcore title belt. Suddenly, Kane walks up to him and meets him face-to-face. RVD asks Kane if he wants a fight right now. But Kane refuses. Instead, Kane just utters words, “You... me... the Royal Rumble.” RVD shakes his head. Kane steps back and walks away.

Match #1: Kenny Dykstra v. Matt Hardy
Recap & Ending: Hardy was still feeling weak from his loss two weeks ago. And Dykstra was weak from last week. Near the end, Kenny is in control and in the ring. He scoop slams Matt in the center. Kenny then climbs up a turnbuckle and looks down at Matt. Kenny then jumps off the turnbuckle and goes for a leg drop, but Matt rolls over and Dykstra lands on his butt! The two slowly get up. Dykstra swings a right, but Matt ducks and hits the side effect. Matt gets up and finishes Dykstra off with the twist of fate! He makes a cover; One! Two! Three!
Winner: Matt Hardy!

“Live For the Moment” hits and Matt Hardy's hand is raised high. Dykstra suffers on the canvas. The crowd give Matt a moderately decent pop.

Backstage, in Teddy Long's office, Chavo Guerrero walks in. He asks Teddy Long if there's anyway he can get him out of his match against ECW Champion CM Punk tonight. Teddy Long asks Chavo if Chavo's afraid of Punk. Punk replies by saying he's worried he might kick Punk's butt to hard. Teddy Long said that's not a real issue and the match is still on. Chavo shakes his head and says okay and walks out of the office, but there's a hint of doubt in his eyes.

---*COMMERCIAL BREAK*---

Match #2: Festus v. Gregory Helms
Recap & Ending: Festus was pretty much a machine in the match. Helms pretty much got owned. That is, until he found the solution. Near the end, Festus is stalking Helms in the ring for the finish. But Helms crawls out of the ring and towards the timekeeper. Festus looks confused. Helms grabs the bell from the timekeeper. Jesse runs up to stop Helms, but Helms levels Jesse with the bell. Festus is about to get out of the ring, but Helms rings the bell! Festus turns back into a dumb-witted animal. Helms slides into the ring. He catches Festus in a school boy; One! Two! Three!
Winner: Gregory Helms!

Helms' music hits again. Gregory's hand is raised. Jesse suffers on the floor and Festus still looks dumb-witted, wondering what happened. Helms' hand is raised in the ring.

Backstage, Funaki is standing by with JBL. He asks Bradshaw if he feels any different now that pretty much all the Royal Rumble participants have been announced. Bradshaw says it doesn't make a bit of difference one way or another because he's still gonna come out on top. Layfield goes onto say that he will take down all 29 men if he has to, he'll main event Wrestlemania and he'll become the World champion. He then states that he'll lose the World title whenever he so chooses.

In another area, Deuce, Domino and Cherry are in the low rider, talking and getting ready for their tag team title match up next.

---*COMMERCIAL BREAK*---

Raw Rebound:
~William Regal announces a 15-man battle royale, with the winner getting a shot against Chris Jericho at the Royal Rumble. Kennedy won the match after hitting the Green Bay plunge on Shelton Benjiman.
~Triple H beat Randy Orton in the main event, nailing him the pedigree.

Match #3; WWE Tag Team Championship Match: John Morrison & The Miz v. Deuce n' Domino w/Cherry
Recap & Ending: Morrison and Miz dominated for the majority, but Deuce and Domino had some strong points. Near the end, Deuce and Domino are in control. The two hit the West Side Stomp on Morrison. The Miz steps into the ring to save his partner, but Deuce runs at him with a clothesline. Miz ducks the clothesline and hits a huge running neckbreaker. Domino charges up to Miz, but the Miz hits a back body drop. Mike is fired up. He stalks Deuce for the finish, but the ref gets in Miz's face and says he's not the legal man! Cherry grabs one of the tag team title belts and slips them to Domino, the other legal man. Domino and Morrison get up and Domino nails Morrison with the tag team title belt! Domino throws it away and Miz leaves the ring, unaware of what Domino did. Domino pins Morrison; One! Two! Three!
Winners: And the NEW WWE Tag Team Champions, Deuce n' Domino!

The music plays and Domino and Deuce escape the ring. Miz gets in and checks on his parter. Cherry hops up and down with glee. She grabs the tag team title belts and hands them to Deuce and Domino. The three then raise each other's hands on the ramp. Miz points at them, swearing revenge.

Backstage, Hornswoggle is sitting in a locker room, alone. Suddenly, Ranjin Singh comes in. He tells Hornswoggle not to fear and that he'll protect him. Hornswoggle looks at Ranjin. Ranjin grins, telling Hornswoggle that he can trust him and that no one's gonna hurt him as long as Ranjin's protecting him. He extends his hand to little Horny, but Hornswoggle's not falling for it. He runs out of the locker room. Ranjin chuckles and says 'he'll come around.'

Backstage, Rey Mysterio is getting set for his third meeting against MVP.

---*COMMERCIAL BREAK*---

Match #4; United States Championship Match: MVP© v. Rey Mysterio
Recap & Ending: Mysterio was the weaker man, given his steel chair beating after last week. Near the end, MVP is in control. He has Mysterio in a corner. MVP runs up and goes for his big boot, but Mysterio dodges it! MVP gets hung up on the turnbuckle! Mysterio gets up. MVP crumbles down to the mat. Mysterio stalks MVP. MVP crawls over to the second ropes. Mysterio runs off the ropes and goes for the 619. But MVP ducks it and Mysterio goes spinning back into the ring. MVP gets up. He kicks Mysterio in the midsection and goes for the playmaker. But Mysterio spins around and turns it into a small package pin; One! Two! Kick out! The two get up and MVP hits a huge kick to the gut. Mysterio holds his injured ribs in pain. MVP hits the playmaker and goes for the pinfall, hooking both legs; One! Two! Three!
Winner: And still the WWE United States Champion, MVP!

MVP gets up and stomps down on Rey. The timekeeper repeatedly rings the bell, but Porter keeps going. He picks up Mysterio and hits him with yet another playmaker. “I'm Comin'” hits again and MVP leaves the ring with his U.S. Title belt.

Backstage, Teddy Long is talking to Shelton Benjiman. Shelton talks about perhaps competing against MVP for the United States title. Teddy disagrees, saying that if Shelton were to win the U.S. Title, he would take it with him to ECW. Shelton says that Teddy's just making excuses to protect MVP. Teddy says that MVP is a grown man and doesn't need protecting. Shelton says that if Porter's a grown man, he should be allowed to make the decision for himself. Shelton leaves Teddy to think about what he said.

---*COMMERCIAL BREAK*---

ECW Rebound:
~CM Punk beats Kevin Thorn in a non-title steel cage match. After the match, Thorn attacks both Kofi and Punk.

Match #5; Non-Title Match: ECW Champion, CM Punk v. Chavo Guerrero
Recap & Ending: Chavo has the upperhand near the end, considering that CM Punk was weary from last Tuesday. Near the end, Chavo is going for the three amigos. He hits the first two, but CM Punk counters the last one to a DDT! Punk slowly gets up and raises his fist to the crowd. Chavo crawls to a turnbuckle and gets up to his feet. Chavo runs up and hits a high knee, followed by a running bulldog. Punk stalks Chavo for the finish. Suddenly, Kevin Thorn comes marching down the ramp and to the front of the ring. Punk notices Thorn and catches an idea. He runs through the ropes and spears Thorn on the outside! Punk gets up and climbs back into the ring. Chavo is up to his feet. He kicks Punk in the midsection and goes for the gory bomb. But Punk counters it and puts Chavo in the fireman's carry! He then nails Chavo with the G.T.S! Punk makes a cover; One! Two! Three!
Winner: The ECW Champion, CM Punk!

“This Fire Burns” hits as Punk gets up to his feet and raises his hands. Thorn suffers on the outside. Punk raises the ECW title belt in the ring. He holds the back of his head, still feeling a little pain.

Backstage, Hornswoggle is walking around, looking disowned and alone. Suddenly, he meets up with the Great Khali! Hornswoggle looks up at the huge size of Khali. Ranjin Singh is next to Khali. He tells Hornswoggle he has one last chance to join him, or else. Khali approaches Horny, but Horny steps back. Suddenly, RVD runs up on Khali from behind and nails him with the Hardcore title belt! Khali goes down to his knees. RVD continuously hits him with belt. Ranjin Singh tries to stop RVD, but Van Dam shoves Ranjin over a table! He then continues pounding the Hardcore title belt against Khali. The referee and security run up and restrain RVD.

Back at the announce table, Michael Cole and Jonathan Coachman talk about what just happened. They then run down the card for the Royal Rumble this Sunday.

In another area backstage, the Great Khali, Jamie Noble, Shannon Moore, Edge and the Edge-heads are all headed for the ring.

---*COMMERCIAL BREAK*---

Match #6; Main Event; 6-on-6 tag team match: Jimmy Wang Yang, the Undertaker, Batista, Ric Flair & Big Show v. Edge, Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder, the Great Khali, Jamie Noble & Shannon Moore.
Recap & Ending:
The match was very hectic and out of control. The referee could barely restrain order without people coming in and attacking other people. Near the end, Wang Yang and Ric Flair are fighting the Edge-heads on the outside. Batista and Undertaker are in control of Edge in the ring. Undertaker lifts Edge up and hits a chokeslam. Undertaker then does the cut-throat taunt. Khali climbs over the top and into the ring. Batista grbas him and hits a huge spinebuster on Khali's already messed up back. Batista then does the thumbs up-thumbs down taunt. But as the animal turns around, Undertaker hits him with a chokeslam! 'Taker then leaves Batista high and dry. The Big Show steps over the top rope and into the ring. He stalks Edge for the victory. Flair and Wang Yang are beating the Edge-heads in the crowd. Edge gets up and Big Show goes for a chokeslam, but Edge counters with a kick right to the crotch. Big Show holds his crotch in pain. Edge grabs Show and miraculously hits an Impaler DDT! Edge weakly gets up and stalks Big Show. Big Show gets up to his feet and runs at him for the spear, but Big Show counters by pounding Edge with a clothesline! Edge goes down flat on his back. Show raises his right hand to the crowd and turns back to Edge. Edge slowly gets up to his feet and Show finally connects with a chokeslam. He makes the cover on the Rated-R superstar; One! Two! Three!
Winners: Big Show, Undertaker, Batista, Jimmy Wang Yang & Ric Flair!

SMACKDOWN REVIEW
By SC2004

- okay, the opening promo, or “the cutting Edge” as it happened to be. It’s in a recapped form, so it’s a little harder to make judgements. In saying that, there is nothing wrong with writing TV shows this way. It was a little predictable, especially when Hawkins and Ryder ran in. I know it makes sense for Batista and Flair to make the save, but I would of liken to see the big Show fend off all three men.

- The backstage segment involving RVD and Kane was short and sweet, setting up a match at the Royal Rumble. No correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the 24/7 rule in effect. I don’t see why Kane would want to hold off until the Rumble when he can go for the gold right away. Also, this suggests that even though RVD will be defending the title 24/7, he still will be champion going into the Rumble, which is unlikely given the fact the title changed hands twice last week alone. The only match I remember with RVD and Kane was at Summer Slam 2003 and it was okay.

- The opening match would have been an entertaining match to watch. Matt hardy picks up the clean win and continues to gather momentum. I didn’t like the Teddy Long, Chavo segment to be perfectly honest. It seemed odd, out of place and a little pointless. I just wasn’t feeling it.

- The second match had a very clever finish, I liked that. You followed it up with two backstage segments. The first was an interview with JBL, which basically was all about his showing how confident he was going into the Rumble match. The second was a brief spot with Deuce, Domino and Cherrie. Both were fine for what they were, fillers.

- I was shocked when Deuce and Domino overcame The Miz and john Morrison to become new champions. Not something I expected, it was cool though. The backstage segment with Hornswaggle and Singh was entertaining.

- I’ve got to applaud you, another clean win in this united States championship match between MVP and Mysterio. It is however a little unrealistic to have two title matches in a row on TV and this is a PPV quality match up. In fact I had it on my Royal Rumble card.

- The Shelton, Teddy Long segment was better than the early segment involving Teddy and Chavo. I hope Shelton gets his title shot. The ECW non title match was a great match, with CM Punk picking up a clean pin fall victory. Although it’s great you’re going with big match that have clean finishes on TV, you do run the risk of making certain people look weak and also blowing potential PPV matches, There is saying “If you’re giving it away for free, why the hell would anyone want to pay for it?”

- Don’t know why the hell RVD would come to Hornswaggles rescue. RVD is in essence beginning a programme with Kane, so there is no need to drag Khali into it, only if you intend to go with a triple threat match at the Rumble. Please don’t as Khali would ruin what may prove to be an awesome match between Kane and RVD.

- As you eluded to, the main event would have been hectic, maybe even too hectic. I personally think a 6 on 6 match is a little too much and may not of worked in real life. Although I guess a Survivor series match is 5 on 5 and that works, so you never know. I think you went with the right finish, having The Show pin Edge. Still can’t see edge loosing the title anytime soon, but this makes Show look like a real threat.

OVERALL: this was a good show, apart from some of the backstage stuff, it was entertaining. The matches outshone the promo’s and segments ten fold. I think you need to work on the non wrestling stuff. But overall, this is looking good.

Randy took down Shawn and then they brawled on the floor exchanging blows to the head. Legend93's Raw Review:

Lance Cade vs Snitsky: Obviously going to be a squash match. If Snitsky lost this it would have to be by an interference or something and I knew that wouldn't happen.

Umaga vs Paul London vs Hardcore Holly: Two squash matches in a row isn't very fun to read. Obvious Umaga would win but I hope you don't have him "squash" Hardy at the Rumble.

Jeff Hardy vs Triple H: I would of maybe had this higher up the card but thats just me. Decent match up. "The Game" got the win but it would have made more sense if Hardy did so that he looked strong in the rumble.

Highlanders vs Cena & Carlito: Have I missed something? Why would Cena team with Carlito?? Anyways kind of a squash match. I knew Cena would pick up the win.

HBK vs Orton: Good main event to have, pleased HBK won. It wasn't a squash match either which is good.

Overall: 7/10 - Was decent enough. You can work on alot of things though, The Y2J segment for one, Y2J was so badly out of character. So was Lawler "No I kicked his ass" WTF? But if you keep trying and listen to the advice given you should improve.
