Re: WWE: A New Year Revolution
Nige’s Raw Review
Starting Raw with one hell of a bang. Orton seemed cocky as things went on and his character got better. The moment he was described as having his trucks on, we knew a match was coming. Regal acting like a face here made one hell of a match and for right now too
It was really disappointing that there wasn’t more detail for this one, as it was a championship match. Like you said, you haven’t had much time, so it’s understandable in a way that you just want to get the show out of the way. The DQ finish was no real surprise as the rumble winner was from Smackdown and Raw needs an angle to go on for Wrestlemania. Regal out again and making another match, very face. Another title match too, but again really short which is disappointing. Really short and Orton beats HHH clean in under six minutes. Wow, what did Triple H do to deserve that? I guess Michaels will be the one facing Orton at Mania
Some promos work short and sweet, and this was one of them. Michaels was bound to be pissed and you caught his mood real well here. Regal putting him in a second match tonight and against Triple H, I don’t see the understanding of that. The No Way Out match would be great had you not had Orton beat Triple H clean earlier on in no time at all. The explanation from Regal was sensible, but Triple H couldn’t really ask for a rematch seeing he got jobbed out
Carlito & Morrison getting some decent promo time, and it wasn’t a bad promo. I can’t remember anyone ever calling themselves a faction on TV, group maybe but not faction. Getting Kennedy to pop up and let his frustration out was a nice way to get that message across. Carlito is so obviously going to help Morrison get the win tonight, as tragic as it would be. Morrison is a guy I really don’t like, especially if he goes over Jeff Hardy
Santino losing to Smith is fine, in the manner it was. Both guys need the rub, but Maria playing a heel role? Having her alongside Santino because she is dumb and doesn’t see what he’s like is fine, but Maria getting a chair for him? No, I don’t see that at all, but it seems like it was done for a reason with Santino going mad at her afterwards, as he would. If it breaks them up, then fine, but there could be better ways to do it than that
Regal/Vince promo short and sweet, nothing really to comment on but that they were both in character
Another short match with Morrison beating Hardy sucks. Was obvious as hell, and I think you’re going about building him and Carlito up well. They could be a decent tag team, but going over Jeff. I don’t like
Austin better not be making an in ring comeback!
Jericho making Umaga tap out is unrealistic. Cena couldn’t even do it! Jericho has proved he’s not a big as a star as he was made out to be since he came back IRL, and going over Umaga doesn’t do much for either them since Jericho lost to Orton the night before. The Kane attack was fine by me as I prefer the monster heel character
Shane/Regal promo was just odd and I didn’t get what was going on, except Shane was hiding something
Santino promo with Maria was fine, decent character and shows there’s real cracks there now. I can’t imagine how he’d be without Maria, but I think it needs to happen
Beth beating Candice is fine, again matches unbelievably short. Not sure if this is what you do with all your TV’s, maybe it’s cos you’re busy at the moment. Mickie coming out and making a play for the title makes sense and helps Mickie get over as a realistic contender in the feud
The Kennedy/Vince/Hornswoggle promo would have been good had there been a build up to it. It was just so rushed, no explanation, just no creativity behind it whatsoever. Everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon to make Kennedy Vince’s son. It’s not original and it just came completely out of nowhere
London & Kendrick getting a non title win is good, a match that was two minutes longer than a clean HHH/Orton match earlier on. Helps Londrick look like good champions, which is all that matters really
Orton wrecking a main event which had no real description apart from attacked them to stop the match. Really disappointing, but Orton made a big mistake here by doing this. Not sure if it was realistic to do it, but it leads to a triple threat at No Way Out. He should retain or Shawn should, HHH shouldn’t at all after being made to look like crap earlier on
Overall, 8 matches on a TV is way too much, especially when three men wrestled twice. The Vince/Kennedy angle blew as there was no build up and the only explanation was that Hornswoggle pulled a fast one on them, no reason how he did it at all. That was lazy booking. The matches lacked detail and devalued the show. The promos weren’t bad, but I think you just rushed this totally and went for entertainment value
My first time reviewing this thread, bud, and it's long overdue from the positive things I've heard
~ Fairly good opening promo from Randy Orton to kick things off with. I can see that you are a plan of Orton's old school 'cocky heel' persona which you used a great deal of throughout this segment, with lines such as "Is it because you're all jealous of my charming good looks? However, you also gave hints that this Randy Orton you are using still has the psychotic, evil side to him that we have been seeing lately: "I have eliminated all of the competition... I have destroyed challenger after challenger. Personally I prefer the sociopath gimmick, but I like that you are having a blend of the two. Well written. I was expecting some kind of introduction, but not Regal. I wonder if you will be making him into more of a face GM, as these announcements against THE top heel of Raw would only gain him recognition. The "Mister" line was British enough for a Briton like me so fair enough
~ I doubt you will have many bigger opening matches than HBK/Orton for the WWE title again, but it did seem like a bit of a letdown, but the ending made sense ultimately, keeps Michaels strong, and I sense you have a bigger, longer match set up for later on. Hunter gets a shot too? This is a pretty wierd opening, DH, but I have to say ... I actually like it Woah, Randy pins HHH clean in 5 minutes? I really wasn't expecting that, but I love anything that pushes Randall to the moon and demotes Hunter. Really unique opening, bud. The only real gripe I have is the length on the matches. I even say it to more established bookers; sometimes it just looks lazy.
~ I think a bit more length to this backstage segment would have done it more justice, but it was still quite good. You have the makings of a really good booker, DH, as this segment was obviously a filler to set up a later match, but both HBK and Regal were still made to be enjoyable. Continue to avoid genericness and you'll go far. Calling Orton "Randall" is awesome. Americans love us I knew a big Main Event was in the works, and HHH/HBK should be good. I can see Michaels getting the win, since Hunter was kind of squashed earlier.
~ Ha ha, I keep seeing guys around BTB pushing DH Smith, and I haven't yet been able to get into him. Good to see you giving some exposure to him and Marella {awesomeness} though, as they could be both excellent ways to bolster your Intercontinental division. I sense a split between Santino and Maria which would be ... bad in my books, as their interaction is gold.
~ Hmmmm, I wasn't really into this next backstage promo I'm afraid. Carlito seemed ... okay, but like Nige alluded to, I don't think you would ever hear someone call themselves a "faction". It seems a tad generic. Anything involving Double K, Mr. Kennedy is awesome and he was really the best thing about this segment to be honest. Morrison is bland as hell on the mic, but I can't help but like him. Hopefully he kills Jeff Hardy tonight. By the way, what is this new faction of Carlito and Morrison? Also, call John John Morrison, as it could get confusing later on with guys like JBL and Cena.
~ Regal getting loads of exposure tonight? Greatness McMahon was excellent in this segment, probably the best characterisation of the night; I love nutty Vince. Interesting that you are persisting with this Hornswoggle angle, but I guess you need to find some way to write it off. I prefer angry Regal though
~ For a nine minute match between two quality athletes like Morrison and Hardy I think I would hav preferred a little more detail {maybe it was because of the piano exam?}. I don't care that Carly interfered, Hardy jobbing to Johnny makes me a happy man.
~ Austin here next week? He's going to have a promo with someone, but who? Santino has been done? Carlito would be a pretty awesome choice in my opinion.
~ I mark for Jericho, so that made it MARGINALLY okay, but I really think that having Umaga tap out on national tv is wrong. It's out of character. He never even LOOKED like submitting to Cena, so to do it here is a bit daft. Pushing Jericho like this is great though, but Kane's run in afterwards was unexpected. I was sort of expecting more for Y2J, as Kane is a little dull now. Perhaps he'll improve with a monster heel push.
~ Hmmm, this was all very confusing between Shane McMahon and even more Regal. All I kind of gathered was that Shane is hiding something ... about Coach ... maybe leaving for SD? I don't know. Both guys were painfully generic as well
~ Yep, there's definately a split in the works between Santino and Maria, which could work, but I really hope you don't turn Marella into Jeff Jarrett version Two. Your characterisation of Santino needs some work too; simply adding "a" onto some of his words doesn't make him instantly Italian.
~ Crikey, another match? And we've still got HBK/HHH to come? Overkill, DH. Beth killing Candice is fine by me, as is the continuation of the Beth/Mickie feud.
~ This next promo started out so well with Vince in character and working well, and even Hornswoggle's involvement was seemingly fine. But all of a sudden Kennedy is killing 'Woggle and is Vince's son? Talk about random. There was no indication of it whatsoever, and I don't think they would ever allow a midget to be beaten up on tv. Yeah, not the best conclusion to the segment for me.
~ ANOTHER match?!!! This is getting pretty silly now. Why do we have 8 matches? I agree that the Champs need some attention, but this match could simply have replaced the Hardy/Santino one or any of the opening Orton ones. L&K carrying the division is awesome though.
~ A 17 minute Main Event after seven previous matches? I don't think so. No doubt it would have been a great match, but I think you should have eliminated the opening Orton/HBK and Orton/HHH matches to make this whole show seem more feasable. Hmmm, I actually thought we might get a clean finish, but Orton's intereference means we have a very, very nice ME on the card for NWO. Hopefull Randall retains and gets a brand new, fresh challenger for Wrestlemania.
Overall, DH, for the first show of yours that I have read, I must say that I was pretty impressed by some parts e.g. creativity, but others let you down e.g. booking and length. Eight matches on Raw was ridiculous and your segments were all far too short to get in to. I did like the innovative opening with Orton-Michaels-Hunter though, I just think you should have eliminated some of the other matches to make it work
The opening promo was a great way to start off. Though I would've gone with the RKO era, but you got your point across anyway.
The first match being a WWE title match is different, but exciting and a great way to mix things up. Orton sneaking out the back door via DQ was also a nice choice.
Triple H getting a title match right after didn't seem to realistic. You could've saved that for the main event. Orton getting away with a clean victory isn't what I had in mind. It could've been count-out. But a nice title defense non the less.
Regal's announcement seemed like a good way to follow up.
Great way for Smith to overcome Maria and Santino's cheating. Santino shouldn't really blame Maria, obviously. Looking forward to seeing where this leads. (Marking for a Marella/Maria break-up)
An okay segment with these three heels. It didn't really say anything to me, except for the fact that Morrison is about to face Jeff. Kennedy complaining about his loss sounds weak. He doesn't sound like the type to complain.
Excellent way to have Mr. McMahon asert his power like that. Hornswoggle is pretty annoying, though. I hope you find something super useful for him in your thread, otherwise, like PANAoIR said, get rid of him.
Nice job having Carlito and Morrison screw over Jeff. This rivalry continues to build pretty nicely.
Great win for Jericho over Umaga. I'm not really sure if Jericho would just stand there and let Kane slide in and chokeslam him. But, a decent way to promote the rivalry.
Shane calls somebody? Hmmm... a mystery. Sounds fun. Regal being tattletale is pretty lame. I just can't see that happening. But, if it'll lead up to a Regal/Coach feud, I guess it's cool.
A realistic divas situation. Beth beats Candice, Mickie comes out, scares Beth away, Mickie helps Candice. I'm pretty sure that's happened before in WWE. The divas are so damn boring.
Freakin' sweet McMahon segment. Glad to see Hornswoggle out of the picture. I'm curious as to what this'll lead to now that Kennedy's a McMahon.
Clean win for London and Kendrick. Whatever. I never really see the Highlanders in the tag team title picture. Bring in some exciting team, like the Hardys and Carlito and Morrison. Maybe they could do a No. 1 Contender's match at N.W.O., and then have the winner go on to meet London and Kendrick at WrestleMania. Just a suggestion.
A no contest isn't how I see this going down. Whoever he attacks first should've been the winner. Like say, for instance, he attacks Shawn first, then Hunter wins. But I get your point. You want both of them to get the title shot. Nice move. Should be a blockbuster.
Overall: 95/100 = A
Excellent fallout show. Don't worry about returning this review, now that my show's gone. I figure I'll take a break and come back in February. In the meantime, good luck to ya' on this thread. I'll be reading.

The WWE Tag Team Championships will be on the line. Will Jesse and Festus make their dream of becoming Tag Team Champions become a reality? Or will the Tag Team Champions, Deuce and Domino retain their tag titles?
Rey Mysterio will be in action tonight when he faces Kenny Dykstra. What will be the outcome of this match? Will JBL play a role in it?
Teddy Long is scheduled to make his return on Smackdown. The fans have been waiting for his return ever since November. What will be his first order of Action?

Edge:
That’s right everyone. I am the Royal Rumble Winner!
Major Heat
Edge:
So that means that I will challenge a World Champion at WrestleMania.
Heat
Edge:
You all shouldn’t be booing me. I am the Royal Rumble King you should be thankful that I even came to Friday Night Smackdown cause if I wasn’t on Smackdown, this piece of crap you call a show wouldn’t even exists. That’s right. When I came to Smackdown the ratings went sky high. Without me Smackdown would be nothing!
Major Heat
Edge:
So as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted-
Crowd: What?
Edge:
Shut up all of you! Shut the hell up!
Crowd: What?
Edge:
You people don’t deserve to see me.
Edge goes to leave, but Batista’s music hits so Edge stays in the ring.

Well congratulations their Edge. Winning the Royal Rumble. You know I did that once. And I became World Champion at WrestleMania 21.

Edge:
And that is exactly what I am going to do. At WrestleMania I am going to become a World Champion. I don’t know if I am going after the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship, but whichever one I go after I will win it! And the Rated R Superstar will once again have World Championship gold around his waist!
The crowd gives major heat at the thought of Edge being World Champion
Batista:
Well Edge I think these fans tell the story. They don’t want you as World Champion-
Edge:
Who cares what these fans think? I don’t need the fans to be on my side to win a World Title. All I need to myself. I can become World Champion any day. Anywhere. Any time!
Batista:
Prove it then.
Edge:
I don’t need to prove it. I have all the proof in my career. I am a three time World Champion. Count them. THREE!
Batista:
Well then let me say one thing. If you decide to face me at WrestleMania, it will be the biggest mistake of your life! Cause if you think that you will be able to beat me, I will prove you wrong and prove to each and every one of these people why I am the World Heavyweight Champion!
Batista holds the World Title before his music plays and he exits the ring and up the ramp.

Camera cuts backstage to Josh Matthews.
Matthews:
Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome my guest at this time, Matt Hardy! Now Matt, this Sunday at the Royal Rumble backstage John Morrison called you and your brother a loser. What are your thoughts on that?
Hardy:
Well Josh he is completely wrong. If I am correct I think my brother has held more titles then John Morrison and Carlito put together. And we have certainly held more tag team Championships than both of them. So I think that says a lot for it.
Matthews:
Ok, do you have anything to say about Big Daddy V?
Hardy:
If Big Daddy V wants a title shot, like the rumors say he does, he just need to say so. And if he thinks that he will take this away from me easily. Oh no. He will have to pry this title out of my hands because it means everything to me!
Hardy walks away as the camera cuts to the arena.

You people want explanations. Well guess what? I don’t need to give explanations.
Heat
JBL:
But I’m going to. I did what I did to Rey Mysterio cause of one thing. Business. Rey Mysterio doesn’t deserve a title shot. Rey Mysterio didn’t deserve to win the Royal Rumble. Rey Mysterio is a loser and does not deserve to be in the WWE.
Heat
JBL:
Rey Mysterio has gotten lucky with every single championship he has ever won. Rey Mysterio is full of luck. He will never be as good as me the Wrestling God.
Heat
JBL:
Rey Mysterio may be a good superstar. But he is not great. Not like The Wrestling God.
Heat
JBL:
I am the greatest wrestler in this business today. I held the WWE Championship longer than anyone has in Smackdown history. I am great. Rey Mysterio is not. And one thing I will never get is why all of you like this loser. Rey Mysterio got lucky when he won the 2006 Royal Rumble. He got lucky when he won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22. Rey Mysterio gets lucky at all he does. Rey Mysterio-
Mysterio landed a perfect crossbody from the top rope on JBL out of nowhere. JBL gets up and runs at Mysterio, but Mysterio drop toe holds JBL into the second rope. Mysterio comes off the ropes. 619! Mysterio waits for JBL to get up. JBL gets up and turns around right into another crossbody. Rey Mysterio exits the ring as his music plays.
