After being featured on RAW for a couple of months, the former WWE Champion has returned home at Friday Night SmackDown! On Friday, at the Pepsi Center in Denver, JBL will make his historic return. Will he have any special requests? Will he be looking to wear the gold belt around his waist once again?
Match for the United States Championship
Last week on SmackDown, Rey Mysterio went face-to-face with the United States Champion, Montel Vontavious Porter. Both superstars put up an entertaining and bloody fight in which Cruserweight Rey Mysterio defeated MVP. Rey was promised a title match if he won, and that is what he’s getting. On Friday, Rey Mysterio will go one-on-one, for the second time, with MVP for the United States Championship. Will Rey Mysterio prevail? Or will MVP defeat Rey and retain his title?
Royal Rumble Qualifying Continues
The Royal Rumble is coming up on January 27, 2008, which is only three weeks away. Many superstars will give anything to get the chance to fight for a title shot at the coveted main event at Wrestlemania, the grandest stage of them all. There are 23 positions left and everyone is fighting for them. On Friday, there will be another Royal Rumble Qualifying match. Who will be involved? Also, who will win and proceed to the Royal Rumble?

Triple H vs. Randy Orton (c)
To say this is personal is more than an understatement. In a rivalry that has been brewing for over three years, the former leader of Evolution meets his protégée that now holds something that The Game wants more than anything. Triple H’s desire to be the very best will put Randy Orton’s reign as WWE Champion to the test when they meet head on in Pittsburgh. Ever since The Legend Killer took the title away from his former mentor back at No Mercy, he has looked stronger than ever, overcoming the challenge of former ECW Champion CM Punk and then remaining the last man standing at the Survivor Series as he led his team to a victory over Team HBK, and beating the last three members by himself.
With Orton on a hot streak, it would appear that nothing could possibly stop The Legend Killer, until now. Triple H is on a role too, beating his father-in-law Vince McMahon at the Survivor Series in a Streetfight, sending him to the hospital for three weeks until his return two weeks ago. It’s been a troubled path for The King of Kings as he was denied a title shot by Mr. McMahon, taking it into his own hands as he admitted to the world that he and Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley were in fact married again, and that they had set up the Chairman of the Board by letting him think Hornswoggle was his son, when in fact he is not, with Mr. McMahon’s illegitimate son still unknown to everyone except Mr. and Mrs. Game, as well as Raw GM Shane McMahon. However, when Vince returned to Raw two weeks ago, he stated that he had time to think since being injured at the Survivor Series and said that all he wanted was his family back. With his track record not exactly gleaming, it was still hard for The Game to believe his father-in-law while Shane and Stephanie accepted their fathers’ apology.
This past week on Raw, Shane McMahon stepped in after his father got too carried and made a match between himself and the WWE Champion. Not wanting to disappoint the fans, Mr. McMahon eventually accepted Shane’s proposal to take his place in the match. It came as no real surprise when Orton emerged victorious, but the same can be said when Triple H appeared to take the shine off Orton’s win, attacking him as The Legend Killer was about to go for Mr. McMahon. Arriving at just the right time, The Game was able to pedigree his opponent and save his father-in-law. With the McMahon family seemingly on the same page, it appears that Orton’s title reign is in serious jeopardy tomorrow night.
WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Batista (c) vs. Shawn Michaels
The Animal, Batista has been in arguably the best form if his career ever since he defeated The Great Khali to regain the World Heavyweight Championship. And since then, he has been just as impressive, defeating Umaga and Edge on more than one occasion to retain his title. But now he has a new challenger, a man he has never faced in this pressure cooker of a situation with so much on the line.
The Heartbreak Kid’s arrival on Smackdown didn’t get off to the best possible start as his team fell short at the Survivor Series against Team Orton. However, it has been an upward journey for Shawn Michaels from that very night as he staked his claim to get his hands on championship gold one more time. With a new number one contender needed, Smackdown GM, William Regal put four superstars in the mix to win this shot at Batista, and after fighting his way past two former World Heavyweight Champions of 2007 in Edge and The Undertaker, the show stopper is back at what some consider to be his very best.
Not many can hang with Michaels on his best day, but you better believe that The Animal will do everything to hold on to his precious title, especially after the recent events on Smackdown. With Edge doing his most to stir up trouble between them and convince Batista that Michaels was ready to stab him in the back at the first opportunity, it certainly seemed that Batista was concerned. In a match made by William Regal for Smackdown last week, Michaels’ job was to referee a non title match with Batista and Edge. However, disaster struck as Michaels grew tired of Edge’s mouth and went to take his head off with some sweet chin music that accidentally hit Batista, costing him the match as Michaels had no choice but to reluctantly count the decision.
Understandably the World Champion was livid and wanted answers earlier tonight on Smackdown, but his challenger put him straight. At first, it looked like The Animal was ready to return the favour, but he decided against it. And just when it seemed that Edge was about to take Batista’s head off with a steel chair at the end of tonight’s show, Michaels came to the rescue, putting The Rated R Superstar on the floor with a super kick. Batista was back on his feet to see this act from his challenger, but it remains clear that some tension remains between them before they go at it for the World Heavyweight Championship in the final show of 2007.
WWE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP
STEEL CAGE MATCH
Matt Hardy vs. MVP (c)
These two men have been vying to get their hands on each other for months and months, but in what will be the best way to end the year, only a steel cage stands between them and the United States Championship. After mind games and more mind games, the tension between them as they held the WWE Tag Team Championship finally exploded two months back when MVP decided to turn his back on Matt Hardy, leaving him all alone in what turned out to be their last match as champions. Matt responded by letting out all his frustrations, leading to some highly physical confrontations between these two rivals. It’s fair to say that things got heated quick, leading to William Regal giving MVP his biggest challenge to date, a date with Matt Hardy inside a twenty foot high steel cage.
With the United States Champion fuming, Matt wasted no time making a statement by taking the fight to The Franchise Player before The V.I.P. Lounge could get underway several weeks back. However, we saw a different Hardy at the official contract signing when MVP did all he could to put him down, but Matt restrained himself, leaving the half man, half amazing champion even more angry. In the last week, Matt has done his talking in the ring, beating MVP last Friday night on Smackdown and picking up a DQ victory earlier tonight. With Matt on hell of a role at the moment, can he extend it even further by winning the United States Championship inside a steel cage? But MVP is hell bent on growing his reputation by beating Matt Hardy up severely and leaving with his championship intact. Just who will emerge victorious?
WWE WOMENS CHAMPIONSHIP
PUT UP OR SHUT UP
Trish Stratus vs. Beth Phoenix (c)
In a match that came out of nowhere, Raw could welcome back its greatest ever diva and a new Womens Champion. Two weeks ago on Raw, the 15th Anniversary Special, Trish Stratus beat Sunny to the title of “Raw’s Greatest Ever Diva”. This didn’t go down well with the current Womens Champion, Beth Phoenix who basically told Trish that she is the most dominant diva and best women’s wrestler, including Trish. However, the former multi time champion took exception to The Glamazon’s comments and offered her the chance to finish her career. With Phoenix putting her title on the line, in exchange, Trish has said that if she doesn’t win the title from The Glamazon, she will nit return to Raw. However, if she does win the title, she will return to Raw full time. With so much on the line for both divas, who will leave with the most stratusfaction?
Chris Jericho vs. Mr. Kennedy
Two of Raw’s biggest egos will meet head on to sign off 2007 with a bang. When Chris Jericho made a shocking return to the WWE, and more importantly Raw recently, Mr. Kennedy was one person who was clearly not very welcoming. With both men part of the huge elimination match at the Survivor Series, Mr. Kennedy took exception to being eliminated by Jericho and made a swift return to the ring, smashing his skull with a steel chair. With Jericho laid out, it led to his elimination as Randy Orton capitalised on Kennedy’s vicious streak. Kennedy wasn’t done there as he helped Jericho suffer another loss, this time at the hands of one of Raw’s hottest young superstars in Elijah Burke.
Jericho’s frustration was clear, and a week later on Raw’s 15th Anniversary show, a six man tag team match was made, that saw both men recruit two partners. However, Jericho was once again victim of Kennedy’s dirty tricks as The Green Bay native used a cattle prod brought to the ring by Jericho’s partners, The Quebecers, resulting in Kennedy pinning Jericho. This past week however, Kennedy’s antics came back to haunt him as The Mountie met him in a one on one match, using the cattle prod to cause Kennedy some serious embarrassment as Jericho distracted the referee. Kennedy wasn’t done however as he went to complain to Shane McMahon, but after being told to leave by an angry Vince McMahon, he stumbled across The Mountie and attacked him in the hall. With Kennedy reeling from this embarrassment, how far will he go to gain revenge on a seriously determined Y2J?
