sirdilznik's Raw review

Vince starts the show off. Pretty standard, the guy has tho rub it in and ruin everyone's New Year, I would expect no less from Vinny. JBL now a full-time Raw wrestler... Hooray for man-boobs!
Quote:
JBL: Now dad, you know how much I condone bad language and the art of disrespect,
I think you meant "he doesn't condone". No big deal just thought I'd point that out. I like Vince trashing Huntsville, I wish he would have expanded on that a bit. Nice a rematch from Sat Night's Main Event. As much as I dislike seeing the same match twice in a row, it works here.

Lashley & Mysterio/Cade & Murdoch - A tag team match for a Rumble qualifier? Seems a bit odd. I'm glad Rey didn't hit the 619. That move looks so freaking weak these days. Wait... Rey countered Yoshi Tonic (Sunset Flip Powerbomb) with a Sunset Flip? I'm having a really hard time picturing that. Also Trevor Murdoch can do the Yoshi Tonic? The ironic thing is I was debating having one of my guys do the move at Lockdown but decided against because it resembles the Canadian Destroyer too much. This match has me really scratching my head. Trevor Murdoch attempting a Yoshi Tonic just seems crazy. Generally only really agile cruiserweights attempt a move like that. Also who is the qualifier? Lashley for getting the pin or both Lashley and Mysterio?

Are you starting a romance angle between Kelly Kelly and Cody? Interesting. Could just be a one off thing though. My opinion of Cody Rhodes is the same as my opinion of DH Smith. I think both those guys may have bright futures but neither is truly ready to be in the WWE right now. The only reason they are up in the E right now is because of their last names. There are more ready wrestlers down in developmental, but oh well.

Why would Trips tell Randy to look real close at the match tonight? He's going to be in it. Other than that I thought the promo was really good.

Kofi/Hardcore - Pretty much what I expected. Kofi winning was written in stone. I like the Alabama Slam counter into the Victory Roll.

I liked Vinny Mac on the warpath with Jeff. i love that he keeps calling him kid even though Jeff is 30. I'm confused though. Is Jeff & Punk/Y2j & Kennedy... ... ...Kennedy a Rumble qualifying match? You kind of made it sound like that. How would Jeff be both in the Rumble match and defend his belt at the Rumble? Tells me that Jeff and Punk are going to lose tonight.

Nice JBL/Randy promo. The fact that JBL offered to help Randy and he turned him down pretty much guarantees that JBL or Vinny or the both of them will get involved in the match. I kind of don't like how you began the promo though. JBL is not the kind of guy to walk into somewhere and apologize for it. He should walk in like he owns the place.

Venis/Carlito - [tangent]You know ever since they had that Cena & Orton vs. Everybody and their grandmother match with Venis and Snitski standing like 2 people apart on the outside and I realised that Val Venis looks exactly like a mini Snitski, I just can't get over that. It's the most hilarious thing. I now officially dub Val Venis "Snitski Mini-Me".[/tangent] I think you meant he springboarded off the ropes not into them. Love the failed Backstabber. I don't think Carlito really needs a distraction to beat Snitski Mini-Me but it works well for the feud this way. Good match.

I'm glad you had the Jeff/Punk promo because thay clears up all my questions from before. So both Rey and Lashley are qualified and this tag match will indeed be to get in the Rumble match. That pretty much seals the deal that Jeff & Punk will lose tonight. No way you have them in the Rumble match & fighting for the belt at the Rumble. I'm not a fan of using tag matches for Rumble qualifiers though I guess it speeds up the process (2 for the price of one, LOL).

Oh shit, The truth next week. The guy has some really nice moves. he also botches a lot of stuff. He's good on the mic but he needs a new routine. "What's up!?" just doesn't cut it anymore. I'm so freakin' glad you didn't bring him back as K-Kwik, LOL. I'm very interested to see where you will go with him.

Hoooooooooooo! USA! USA! vs. JBL - It's pretty obvious who's going to win this match. Wow!!! A Fallaway Slam on Hacksaw i guess JBL is strong enough. Would be spectacular! Nice squash match. I'm glad you didn't go with the Powerbomb. Feigning it like that was kind of cool and different. OMG!!!! Orlando Jordan returns!!! You have yourself a Hall of Famer there. In a different section of this forum we inducted Orlando into the Jobber Hall of Fame This is great! Are you reforming The Cabinet?

Y2j & Kennedy... ... ...Kennedy/Jeff & Punk - Whisper in the Wind! Nice. Simultaneous partner backstabs, Woohoo! Damn Kennedy must have been talking shit to Y2J for a really long time in order for Jeff to have time to recover and get up with kennedy still on the mat. Wow! Punk and Jeff win. I didn't see that coming. You're going to have these guys in the Rumble match and having a match for the belt at the Rumble? I'm not a big fan of that (though you could still work a way out of it before the Rumble). It could work though. I see Jeff and Punk eliminating each other fairly early on in the Rumble, that would be the way to go IMHO.

Nice Beth promo. I disagree with Trish being the greatest ever Diva (Lita, baby. Lita!) but that's a matter of opinion. I can't wait for my girl Victoria to come back. Please don't drag her credibility through the mud like the E is doing right now when she comes back.

I like your short Burke promo.
Quote:
Elijah Burke: Give me that a minute Todd, I’ve got something I need to say to Snow White’s missing eighth dwarf. . . Rey Mysterio

Line of the night!

Trips/Orton - Liked the Running Neckbreaker. Oh shit, the Overdrive, LOL. or as I like to call it "Generic Finisher". Orton hasn't used that in years (I think) but I actually really liked that you just pulled that one out. Brass Knucks, huh? Works for me. i would have preferred using the title belt, but that's cool too. Punt him Randy. Punt him!!!! Dang. Delayed cover on the RKO. Nice. I saw the dirty run in from a mile... no 10 miles away, but I still liked it. Yes Shane O Mac screws Trips!!!! Wooohooo!!! I knew this was going to happen, it was inevitable, but I wasn't expecting it tonight. Still I like it.

Man, this was a weird show, still I enjoyed it thoroughly (definitely more than Smackdown). I'm not a big fan of tag matches as qualifiers for the Rumble match or the fact that Punk & Jeff will be in the Rumble match and have another match that night, but it's OK. I still can't get over Trevor Murdoch trying Yoshi Tonic In the immortal words of Don West - Are you freakin' kidding me!? If trevor really can do the Yoshi Tonic and you can find a youtube clip, please hook me up because I have got to see that. Anyway I liked the show. You had some great promos. Weird but entertaining matches. Orland Jordan coming back has me in stitches. A true Hall of Famer returns Good shit. I don't know if the show was meant to be funny, but I sure got tons of laughs throughout. Good work!

...Orlando Jordan

/facepalm

Thanks man. Murdoch has used the Sunset Flip Powerbomb before on a couple of occasions i can remember. I'll have a look on Youtube and try and find it

As for Jeff & Punk wrestling twice at the Rumble, it's because i want more high profile names in there. It has happened on plenty of occasions before and these are two guys who should be in the Rumble in my eyes. It's also a chance to further their feud as well as others

I thought i disguised the Shane turn really well to be honest, i didn't think anybody would have seen that one coming

Thanks for the comments and i will be getting to Lockdown today at some point, i've been trying to get little bits of college work out of the way and find some time where i can really focus on Lockdown

Don't take it personally my friend, but the Shane O'Mac heel turn could be seen from a mile away. The way you wrote his promo, and knowing his character in WWE today, it was pretty obvious he was going to turn on Triple H.

Nevertheless I like the way you referred to Vince, Shane and JBL as the 'McMahon boys', and I can't wait to see what the new regime's next move is. I guess with Shane's turn, we'll be seeing Shane vs. Triple H soon (probably on RAW).

I like how you've played out CM Punk's heel turn, and hopefully he'll walk out as the new Intercontinental Champion at the Rumble. Either way, either Punk will eliminate Jeff from the Rumble match or vice-versa.

The Jericho/Kennedy feud is OK, but i.m.o has sort of got lost in the shuffle of all the Main Event feuds on RAW right now. Although I can't really say which man I think should go over in the feud - Jericho would benefit after only recently returning to the company (and much like in real-life, his return hasn't been that spectacular unfortunately) so going over in this feud on one hand. On the other hand, Kennedy could benefit as well after beating yet another top superstar in the WWE and adding to his list of defeated names.

It's great to see how far you've come Nige, from the beginning of this thread to the current time. I can't wait to see what plans you have for the Royal Rumble, and then WrestleMania 24!

Default Re: WWE: A Strong Response

First off I would like to apologise for not being able to review Smackdown! this week. I just don't have the time, unfortunately but here is a review on your latest edition of RAW.

cena&torrierock's Review on RAW

Opening Promo: Very well-written. The one thing I look forward to about your shows are the fact that your opening promos never fail to disappoint; they always have both the quality and the quantity. Vince's speech was excellent and it would've been great to see delivered on television. Shane coming out and interrupting the little sermon JBL was giving Alabama was a great idea but I kind of saw it coming when Shane said he had a huge announcement to make. But anyway, it was very well-written and I look forward to the Main Event. Great way to start the show!
Grade: 10/10

Lashley & Mysterio vs. Cade & Murdoch: It was nicely written for what are usually squash matches. But the fact that you made Cade & Murdoch look like they actually did have a chance at winning was a plus, IMO. I liked the match and I'm glad that the right team of superstars are going to be at the Royal Rumble. I'm going to assume you're going to fill the Rumble up with all the stars before filling in the spots with "jobbers", which is a very good idea, IMO. I didn't like the fact that Lashley just used one move and was able to win the match, a bit unrealistic in terms of reality but realistic in terms of the WWE.
Grade: 9.5/10

Carlito & Eduardo Backstage: I liked the little conversation between Carlito and Eduardo, hyping up Carlito's obvious win over Val Venis that night. I found it quite amusing when Eduardo started hitting on Kelly and I found it even more hilarious when Cody Rhodes came to the rescue. This segment served its purpose and the inclusion of Kelly Kelly was a good idea, actually.
Grade: 9/10

Triple H Interview: John Bastard Layfield! I chuckled to myself when Triple H said that. Anyway, another well-written promo that used both quality and quantity to express how Hunter really felt about all this. I'm glad that you're building up Hunter's determination and drive to win the title but unfortunately, I can see something happened that prevents Hunter from getting the gold tonight.
Grade: 9.5/10

Kofi Kingston vs. Hardcore Holly: I really liked this match and the fact that you gave both men an equal amount of offense made it even better. I'm not exactly a fan of Hardcore Holly so I'm glad you capitalised on Kofi Kingston and had him win the match. Kofi's a great talent and I hope you use him well.
Grade: 9.5/10

Jeff Hardy & Vince McMahon Backstage: I liked the announcement of Hardy vs. Punk at the Rumble, a match like that intrigues me. And I also liked the fact that despite the fact that Shane had lots of power on RAW and Vince knew that, he was still trying to remind all the superstars that he still had the power to fire them if he wanted to or make their lives a living hell. A great write-up.
Grade: 9.5/10

Randy Orton & JBL Backstage: Great word choice by JBL there, makes him sound very intellectual. I like it when the wrestlers are potrayed as mature human beings than immature 5-year olds in a 30-year old man's body. *coughCenacough* Anyway, I knew that JBL & Vince would try and interefere in the Main Event but Orton turning their offer down is making me speculate as to what could happen and what could possibly lead to either a Triple H or Randy Orton win.
Grade: 9/10

Val Venis vs. Carlito: I kind of knew that Carlito was going to win since Val Venis is almost always used as a jobber in all BTBs but I was glad you gave Val a lot of offense and still portrayed him as an in-ring competitor who still hasn't lost his touch. I'd seriously kill to see Val get at least one decent push in any BTB, lol. Anyway, Eduardo trying to interfere in the match reminds me of Jesus on Smackdown! in 2005 I believe, when he was Carlito's "bodyguard" of some sort. Anyway, great match.
Grade: 9.5/10

Jeff Hardy & CM Punk Backstage: It's good to hear Punk try to put their differences aside for the timebeing so they could be able to win their match that night. Jeff fuming was something that made me laugh when I envisioned it in my head. It was a great promo that showed that Punk was willing to work with Hardy but was still going to whoop his ass at the Rumble, lol. I might be the only one but I find the pairing of Hardy and Sunny to be very odd.
Grade: 9.5/10

Ron Killins Hype: Nicely-written and I look forward to his big debut. Hopefully you don't go with the "Killings def. Jobber" for a the first few weeks before you decide to put him into a one-month feud. This could possibly be the chance for you to push Venis, perhaps.
Grade: 10/10

JBL vs. Duggan: It was exactly what I expected, a clean win for JBL. The aftermath was really good, I was surprised to see Orlando Jordan return. Maybe you could bring back The Cabinet? It is a stable that I miss seeing on television every week. Anyway, the match served its purpose and was well-written.
Grade: 10/10

Jericho & Kennedy vs. Punk & Hardy: A very well-written match that kept me on my feet. It was filled with so much intensity, especially between the two teams themselves since they all hated each other but hated their partners even more. The ending was perfect and I really like the directions you've taken both these fueds. A great match and you deserve so much credit for this. Excellent job!
Grade: 10/10

Beth Phoenix Interview: Very well-written and I've got no complaints here. I would love for you to push Victoria into a feud with Beth but the inner mark in me wishes that you or anyone for the matter would push Torrie Wilson into a proper title feud.
Grade: 10/10

Elijah Burke Promo: Nice words by Elijah Burke there. Simple yet very effective, good job.
Grade: 10/10

Main Event: An excellent match that was great all throughout and the aftermath made it even better. Shane's heel turn was, honestly, completely unexpected. This was an excellent way to end the show. Not only was there great wrestling but there was a also a great twist and everything. This match basically puts the W (Wrestling) and the E (Entertainment) into the WWE. Excellent Job!
Grade: 10/10

Overall Grades:
Promos: 9.6/10
Matches: 9.8/10
Show: 9.7/10

An excellent show! Good job Nige, you did an amazing job. It was a show filled with great matches and great promos and I enjoyed every bit of it! Keep up the spectacular work!

RATED R SUPERSTAR DOES IT AGAIN!

It seems that Edge is able to ruin any kind of World Championship situation that he doesn’t find himself in. After being infuriated at not being involved in the World Heavyweight Championship match at Saturday Night’s Main Event back in December, he vented his anger by accidentally costing Batista the title after hitting him with a spear after Shawn Michaels was able to dodge the bullet. And last week in what was supposed to be Michaels’ Victory Celebration, the new champion made it clear he wasn’t happy in the way in which he won the title and even offered to forfeit the title back to Batista. However, The Animal made a brief appearance and told Michaels that he didn’t blame him, laying it all Edge’s shoulders. With The Rated R Superstar contacting William Regal earlier in the evening to say he had a family emergency and would be missing the show, he actually showed up and speared The Heartbreak Kid out of nowhere.

It appears that Edge’s quest to win back the World Championship he lost because of an injury last year is far from over. And with Michaels’ now seeming to be joining Batista in a case of revenge, maybe Edge should stay clear this Friday night. The question is, will he?

UMAGA LEAVES TAKER FOR DEAD
In what was a match we were all looking forward to ever since it was announced before Christmas, we saw it disintegrate in front of very eyes last week. For the first time ever on network television, we were set to witness a Last Ride Match when The Undertaker and Umaga were scheduled to meet head on last Friday night. However, it appears that The Samoan Bulldozer and his manager Armando Alejandro Estrada had different ideas as Umaga attacked the dead man backstage before their match. Not only did he leave The Undertaker out cold, Umaga placed his rival in the back of the hearse and then Estrada drove it to an empty graveyard where Umaga continued the brutal assault before leaving The Undertaker there.

With no update on the dead man’s condition, just what can we expect when The Samoan Bulldozer enters Salt Lake this week?

CHAVO’S BACK AND GUNNING FOR THE CHAMP
It was over a month ago when Kenny Dykstra was forced into defending his Cruiserweight Championship against Chavo Guerrero on Smackdown, and took the rules of the match too far. With William Regal making the match no disqualification rules, the Cruiserweight Champion pounced on Chavo before he could enter the ring fully and smashed him in the head with his title belt. He didn’t stop there and continued the assault, resulting in the defenceless challenger having his shoulders counted to the mat. However, last week Chavo returned and attacked the cocky young champion after a victory over Shannon Moore to return the favour.

It remains to be seen if Chavo is done, but it’s safe to say that Dykstra won’t be best pleased. Just how will he respond to the attack this Friday night?

WHAT’S GOING ON? HELL ON EARTH!
Last week we saw a very cryptic message with the words “There will be Hell on Earth” around what looked to be flames and music that seemed to remind us of Kane back when he originally joined the WWE. Is this right? Can we expect to see Kane this week, or another cryptic message? Only time will tell!

RUMBLE QUALIFYING CONTINUES

Last Friday, the WWE Tag Team Champions of Paul Burchill & Harry Smith, The UK Pack became the first men to qualify for this years Royal Rumble along with Finlay who joined them later on in the evening. But this week, we will find out just which over Smackdown superstars will be going with them for the chance to earn a shot at the big time at Wrestlemania.

FORMER PARTNERS TO GO AT IT!
It seems that there is no hope now for the former WWE Tag Team Champions of Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas to get back together and sort out their differences. Shelton’s ego seems to have gotten the better of him ever since deciding to cost himself as well as Charlie Haas the tag titles before Christmas to The UK Pack. And last week he made it abundantly clear that he sees himself as more than a tag team wrestler and made out that he carried them to all the success they ever had. However, this week he has the chance to prove it when the two former partners meet one on one for a place in the Royal Rumble match.

Will Shelton back up his mouth, or is he in for a big shock?

HARRIS TO MAKE BIG DEBUT?
We have seen a series of videos for nearly a month now hyping the upcoming debut of Chris Harris. And we found out last week that he would be making his debut this coming week on Smackdown. Since then we have also learnt that he will be taking part in a Royal Rumble qualifying match in his big debut match. What a chance Smackdown’s newest superstar has in his first ever match in the WWE.

MVP OUT TO CHANGE HIS LUCK
It’s been a rough Christmas and New Year for MVP, losing the United States Championship to Matt Hardy inside a Steel Cage at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and losing his all important rematch last week against the very impressive new United States Champion. However, he has the chance to change all that this coming week when he has the opportunity to enter the Royal Rumble match with the possible Wrestlemania main event at stake when he too competes in a qualifying match. is his luck about to change?

CONFIRMED FOR THIS WEEK ON SMACKDOWN

ROYAL RUMBLE QUALIFYING MATCH
Shelton Benjamin
vs. Charlie Haas

PLUS
MVP & the debuting Chris Harris attempt to book their places in the 30 Man Battle Royal

ALL THIS AND MORE THIS FRIDAY NIGHT!

Awesome preview. You know damn well Edge will be there to stir the pot between Batista and HBK. U-Manga is going to have hell to pay for what he did. He done messed with the wrong person. not sure if it will be this week, but he had a massive dose of retribution coming at the hands of the Dead Man. I can't wait to see how you repackaged Kane. Also the Chris Harris debut should be great. I guess he will be in the Rumble Match since I don't see him losing in his debut. Show sounds great. I'm looking forwards to it.

Preview looks great, and the Edge-Tista-HBK situation is coming along nice. Hopefully a championship match is made for the Royal Rumble. I have a feeling the B.O.D are gunna join together when Kane makes his re-debut, would be nice to see that. Yep RR matches should be good. Harris hopefully will make a winning debut and get in it. Looks good once again.

Thanks for all the comments, but some news for you from WWE.com

SMACKDOWN TO GO LIVE & HD FROM 1ST FEBRUARY

We are delighted to announce that after several months of discussions with the executives from the CW Network, that Friday Night Smackdown will now be broadcast live.

In line with Raw on Monday nights, WWE fans can now see the superstars of Smackdown perform live from Friday 1st February 2008, the first episode after the Royal Rumble in over two weeks time. There were also discussions about the possible rescheduling of the show for Thursday night, however for the time being, Smackdown will remain on Friday nights at the same time.

On another note, all WWE television shows will be broadcast in High Definition as well, starting with the first live edition of Friday Night Smackdown, followed by Raw the following Monday. It’s time to upgrade to HD if you haven’t done so already!

BREAKING NEWS FROM SMACKDOWN TAPING

We have just received word that the Smackdown General Manager, William Regal will open the show tonight with an announcement to follow up from the actions of last week. We are not sure if it refers to what happened with The Undertaker being attacked by Umaga or Edge interfering in Shawn Michaels' Victory Celebration.

Regal is said to be furious after last week with Umaga attacking The Undertaker before their Last Ride Match. It is not known if The Undertaker is in the building tonight, and Regal is also very unhappy with Edge for lying to him after he earlier contacted Regal to say he would be missing the show due to a family emergency.

What will Regal have to say when he opens the show?
