FIRST SHOW OF 2008!

RATED R MISTAKE CREATES A NEW WORLD CHAMPION

At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Edge continued his quest to make the statement that he deserves a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. And after becoming the victim of some sweet chin music just 24 hours before, The Rated R Superstar made it his mission to pay Shawn Michaels back as The Heartbreak Kid challenged Batista for the World Championship. In what was an outstanding match, Edge decided to get involved and try to end Michaels’ title chances with a spear. However, it went badly wrong as Michaels was able to dodge it and The Animal ended up on the receiving end of the deadly move. Edge was shocked for a split second before he felt the effects of sweet chin music for the second time in two nights. The Heartbreak Kid was able to capitalise and took full advantage by covering Batista to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

And this Friday night, Smackdown will hold a Victory Celebration for its new champion. But just what response will we get from the understandably furious former champion?

IS UMAGA GOING ON HIS LAST RIDE?
Ever since costing The Undertaker the chance to challenge for the World Championship just before Christmas, Umaga has been sitting pretty as The Undertaker remained out of action. However, this will all change this week as we found out two weeks ago when William Regal announced that the dead man will be back for the first show of 2008. It will not be a normal return by any means as The Undertaker will be coming back to get his revenge on The Samoan Bulldozer when they meet in a Last Ride Match, the first ever on network television.

There is no way you can afford to miss the action when these two monsters collide head on in Pensacola.

MATT ESCAPES WITH THE GOLD
In a match that has been a long time in the making, Matt Hardy finally got one up on Montel Vontavious Porter as they went head to head inside the managing structure of the steel cage at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Matt however was able to gain the perfect revenge as he defeated MVP to become the new United States Champion as he escaped the cage following the decisive Twist of Fate. We have also learnt that MVP is wasting no time in cashing in his rematch clause as the fierce rivals will go at it this Friday night in Florida.

Will Matt’s reign be one of the shortest in history? There’s only one way to find out.

SHELTON TURNS HIS BACK ON HAAS
Shelton Benjamin well and truly stabbed his now former partner in the back two weeks ago, then twisted it to add more insult to injury. After losing their Tag Team titles to The UK Pack the week before, Shelton and Charlie Haas had the chance to win them back, however Shelton had different ideas. The highly talented yet arrogant superstar decided to enter the ring and attack his own partner, costing them the match with the T Bone suplex before walking to the back without a care in the world. Chris Masters was told earlier in the night by Benjamin to stay away, and as Shelton emerged from the arena, Masters caught up with him, only for Shelton to put The Masterpiece firmly in his place.

It looks like it could well be a new year for a new start for Shelton Benjamin, but will he pay the price for his actions at the end of 2007?

RUMBLE QUALIFYING STARTS HERE
The Road to Wrestlemania well and truly starts here as we will see the first Royal Rumble Qualifying matches when the WWE Tag Team Champions, The UK Pack meet John Morrison and The Miz, while Jimmy Wang Yang will look to put his recent problems with The Pitbulls to one side as he goes one on one with the fighting Irishman, Finlay. Who will be the first three stars to qualify and enter the 30 man battle royal for a chance to main event Wrestlemania?

PLUS
Kenny Dykstra’s actions since becoming the Cruiserweight Champion have been over the top, and certainly none more so than when he attacked Chavo Guerrero with his own title belt before their match could even start three weeks back. Chavo suffered a concussion and missed the last Smackdown of the year as Dykstra walked out of his match with Ric Flair, getting himself counted out. This week however, Dykstra will be in action against Shannon Moore.

^^^ You're kidding me....

Anyway the show looks stacked, surprised there is no RAW but the event looks great so I'll let it slide for now and the build up to the Rumble should be super awesome.

That's just down to the timing of the New Year mate, nothing more than that! Raw will be back to normal with the 7th January Show. It didn't seem right to have it on New Years Eve, i'm just a caring boss i guess. Saturday Night's Main Event was the
right show to end the year i think, and it gives me the chance to start again in 2008

***PYRO***

Michael Cole: Good evening everyone and welcome to the very first Friday Night Smackdown of 2008, and what a show it’s going to be. . . Not only do we have a new face alongside me here in The Coach, but right here tonight there will be a Victory Celebration for the new World Heavyweight Champion, Shawn Michaels

The Coach: That’s exactly right Michael, and I’ve got to say that I couldn’t have picked a better night to start here on Smackdown. Because not only will we see the new World Champion, we will see the new United States Champion, Matt Hardy against the same man he beat two weeks ago at Saturday Night’s Main Event, MVP. . . And of course, the title will be on the line. . . It won’t be inside a steel cage like last time, but it sure as hell will be amazing

Michael Cole: But folks, that’s not all. We really are starting 2008 the same way we finished 2007. . . with a bang. . . Because for the first time ever on network television, you will see a Last Ride match when The Undertaker goes one on one with Umaga

The Coach: And Michael, it goes without saying that this one won’t be for the feint hearted

Michael Cole: But we’re starting tonight with the Cruiserweight Champion, Kenny Dykstra

The Coach: I’ve seen plenty of this kid when he was on Raw and since he came over here to Smackdown, and I have been nothing but impressed since day one. . . He has the talent, the confidence and the mind set to become a huge star in 2008 Michael, mark my words

***MATCH #1***

NON TITLE MATCH
Shannon Moore
vs. Kenny Dykstra

SUMMARY:
Dykstra dominated the match for the most part with Moore only getting in some minor offence. With Dykstra seemingly in control after a series of short arm clotheslines, he goes up to the corner and jumps up to the second rope, turns round to face Moore as he stands back up and then leaps off for a DIVING CLOTHESLINE. . . Moore though forward rolls to dodge it. Dykstra hits the mat but is back up within seconds as he stands up at runs and Moore, who hits him with a STANDING DROPKICK. . . He caught him right in the face and Dykstra dropped to the mat, but he is back up again quite quickly. Moore is ready and waiting as he goes to the top rope and climbs to the top rope, but as Moore jumps off for a diving cross body, Dykstra jumps up and hits a JUMPING CUTTER. . . WHAT AN IMPACT. . . Dykstra then walks over to the corner as Moore lies motionless on the mat. Kenny then climbs up to the top rope and then leaps off, hitting the GUILLOTINE LEG DROP. . . Kenny turns over on the mat and hooks Moore’s legs for the cover 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . 3.

AFTERMATH: “Superstar Fallin” hits as Kenny stands back up and demands his title from the referee. He raises it up in the air as he then walks over to the ropes and taunts the fans, but then a cheer breaks out. Unknown to Dykstra, Chavo Guerrero has slipped in the ring behind and creeps up behind him. He clubs him across the back as Kenny’s music stops and Chavo spins him round, then plants him with a Brainbuster. A big pop breaks out as Chavo then runs to the corner, jumps up to the top rope and hits the Frog Splash. “Chavo Ardiente” plays as Chavo stands back up and stares right down at Dykstra as the crowd cheer Chavo

***CUT BACKSTAGE***

William Regal is sat down in his office when Batista storms in, wearing a suit and Regal stands up

***BIG POP***

William Regal: Now I know you must be very angry, and quite frankly I don’t blame you, but. . .

Batista: . . . But nothing Regal, I had my world title stolen from me and I’ve not been able to do a damn thing about it for nearly two weeks. And I wanna know what you’re going to do about it. . . I want my rematch and I want it tonight

***BIG POP***

William Regal: Now I can understand that you want your championship back, but I’m afraid I can not give you that match tonight. . . See I’ve promised these people that we will see Shawn Michaels have a victory celebration here tonight. Therefore your championship match will have to wait

Batista: Well if I can’t have my rematch tonight, then there’s only one thing that I need, and that is Edge in that damn ring tonight

***POP***

William Regal: Well, this is getting embarrassing. . . I’m sorry I have to tell you this but Edge isn’t here tonight. He called me earlier today to say that there was some kind of family emergency at home, and I allowed him to take the night off. . . But I’ll tell you what I will do. I will find someone for you to wrestle in that ring tonight, I promise

Batista: Make sure you do because you’re door will be the first I’ll be banging down if I don’t get a match tonight

Batista turns round and leaves the room as Regal looks a little flustered

William Regal: Happy bloody New Year!

***COMMERCIAL BREAK***

***VIDEO PROMO***
We see Shawn Michaels’ first WWE Championship victory with the finish and celebration from his match with Bret Hart at Wrestlemania 12 before cutting to a still image promoting his Victory Celebration later on

***CUT TO THE ARENA***

***MATCH #2***

ROYAL RUMBLE QUALIFYING MATCH
The UK Pack (Paul Burchill & Harry Smith) w/Drew McIntyre
vs. John Morrison & The Miz

SUMMARY:
A very even and entertaining match. Burchill has been dominating Morrison for the last few minutes, working over his back. He lifts him back and whips him hard into the corner, follows in and hits him with a clothesline. Morrison then staggers out of the corner as Burchill then tries for a scoop slam, but Morrison is able to slip down. And as Burchill turns back round, Morrison then hits him with a SUPER KICK. . . Morrison drops down to the mat as well following the beat down he’s suffered. Instead of going for the cover, he slowly starts to crawl across the mat towards his corner. As he gets closer, Burchill too starts to make his way over to his corner. Morrison makes the tag as Miz then rushes in and tries to grabs Burchill’s legs, but Burchill is able to turn over and push Miz back with his feet. With Miz falling to the mat, Burchill drags himself back and tags in Smith. Miz gets back up and Smith charges at him, connecting with a clothesline. Miz gets backs up as Smith then stomps him in the chest and whips him into the ropes, and as Miz comes back, Smith kicks him in the gut and then lifts him up in the air for a suplex.

Smith keeps him up there for nearly ten seconds before bringing him back down to the mat with a big bang. He turns over and covers The Miz 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . MORRISON BREAKS UP THE COUNT. . . Smith is pulled back by his feet as Burchill then charges back in the ring and takes out Morrison with a lariat. As Morrison gets back up by the ropes, Burchill takes him out with a clothesline over the top, taking himself over too with the momentum. Miz staggers back up in the ring at the same time as Smith and tries to whip him into the corner, but it’s reversed and Miz hits the corner pads. Smith charges in and drives his shoulder into the chest. Miz then staggers out of the corner and Smith scoops him up, lifting him onto his shoulder. He then turns round and charges out of the corner, planting Miz with the RUNNING POWERSLAM. . . Big pop from the crowd as Smith then covers him 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . 3.

AFTERMATH: “Britannia” hits as Burchill climbs back up in the ring and hugs Smith as they then pose for the crowd before leaving the ring with McIntyre waiting by the ramp. Morrison sits back up on the outside and looks angrily as he sees The UK Pack celebrating

***CUT BACKSTAGE***

Charlie Haas & Chris Masters walk out of their locker room and into Shelton Benjamin

***HEAT***

Haas looks pissed and Shelton doesn’t seem to be bothered

Chris Masters: Well look who it is Charlie, the world’s greatest back stabber

Shelton Benjamin: Isn’t that what you two have just been doin in there huh? . . . Isn’t that you wanted Chris? . . . Is that why every time me and Charlie were together, we’d look over our shoulder, and there you were, right behind us all the damn time. . . Tell me Charlie, has he got a master piece?

Charlie Haas: You think this is all funny Shelton? . . . We lost the tag team titles because of you. . .

Chris Masters: . . . And don’t forget he stabbed you in the back two weeks ago

Charlie Haas: You think I don’t remember that? . . . This is between me and you Shelton. After all these years, I thought we would never turn on each other. . . never. But you proved me wrong. . . I’ve stood up for you for years, and how do you repay me? . . . By turning on me for no reason

Shelton smirks

Shelton Benjamin: No reason huh Charlie. It seems like Chris here didn’t pass that message on for ya just after you got your shoulders pinned to the mat again two weeks ago. . . But if you want your reason, I’ll lay it all on the line for ya right now, buddy. . . It’s plain and simple Charlie, I’m sick and tired of carrying your ass. . . You know what people think when they talk about The World’s Greatest Tag Team? . . . They talk about me, Shelton Benjamin. They don’t know who you are, you’re just the boring, no charisma, no talent partner that I had to carry all these years. . . But you gotta say Charlie, I did a good job. . . How many titles did I take us to huh? . . . But I had enough of it. I had enough of you and I had enough of him. I’m Shelton Benjamin damn it, the gold standard of professional wrestling, and I don’t need to be held back by two passengers like you. . . Now if you don’t mind guys, I’m gonna go kick back and enjoy the show. . . You two have a good night

***HEAT***

Shelton walks off, leaving Haas and Masters looking dumb founded as William Regal walks up behind them

William Regal: And how are we this evening gentleman?

Chris Masters: Shut your mouth

William Regal: I very much beg your pardon

Masters turns round and looks stunned to see it’s Regal, as does Haas as he turns round, still angry from Shelton’s outburst

William Regal: Do you know who you’re talking to young man? Nobody talks to me like that. I am the general manager of Smackdown, and I will not be spoken to like that by you or anyone. Keep that in mind

Regal starts to walk off, but his eyes light up and he turns back

William Regal: You know what gentleman? I have a great idea for the pair of you. . . I am going to give you two a match tonight to help you learn some respect about authority

Chris Masters: Regal, we don’t care who you put us in a match with. We don’t fear anyone

William Regal: Well I’m glad to hear that. . . Because tonight your opponents will be. . . Ric Flair. . . and Batista

***POP***

Regal smiles as he then walks up the hall as Haas looks at Masters and shakes his head

Charlie Haas: Nice one Chris

***COMMERCIAL BREAK***

***VIDEO PROMO***
We see Shawn Michaels’ second WWE Championship victory with the finish and celebration from his match with Psycho Sid at the 1997 Royal Rumble before cutting to a still image promoting his Victory Celebration later on

***CUT BACKSTAGE***

Lena Yada is standing by backstage

Lena Yada:
Please welcome my guest at this time. . . the former United States Champion. . . Montel Vontavious Porter, MVP

MVP angrily walks into the shot to a lot of heat, but there are some pops for the “former champion” line

Lena Yada: Montel. . .

MVP: . . . No, stop right there. What gives you the right to address me as the former United States Champion huh? . . . What, you think you’re untouchable around here now? Dressed to impress, trying to look like you’re all that? . . . Well I’ll tell you somethin Lena, you don’t want to get on the wrong side of the franchise player. True, Matt might be the United States Champion, but that all changes tonight

***HEAT***

MVP: I think it’s crystal clear to everyone that when I make my way out to that ring tonight, and in true MVP ballin’ style, I will take back my, not Matt Hardy’s United States title

***HEAT***

MVP: See Matt, you can call that a Christmas gift if you will. The only reason you still have the good fortune to be carrying that belt is because tonight is the first chance me or anyone for that matter has had the chance to get their hands on you since our match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. . . And Matt, from me to you, I ain’t in a giving mood tonight. . . In fact, the only thing you’re gonna get from the half man half amazing star of Smackdown is the worst beating of your life

***HEAT***

MVP: You didn’t put my shoulders to the mat, and you didn’t make me tap. And for that reason Matt, you simply didn’t beat me. You never have and you never will. . . Not tonight, not ever. . . Tonight, that title is coming back home with me

***HEAT***

He stares right into the camera, not blinking for a couple of seconds before then slowly turning round and walking away as Lena looks a little shaken

***CUT TO THE ARENA***

***MATCH #3***

ROYAL RUMBLE QUALIFYING MATCH
Jimmy Wang Yang w/Super Crazy
vs. Finlay

SUMMARY:
A really good match up with Yang frustrating Finlay with his speed. Finlay though has the advantage as he pulls Yang back up to his feet after a two count and chops him across the chest against the ropes. He then whips Yang into the ropes and walks back across the mat as Yang then comes back off the ropes and hits Finlay with a SPINNING WHEEL KICK. . . Finlay looks shocked but picks himself back up, following Yang back up to his feet as the high flyer then runs back into the ropes, comes back and nails him with a FLYING FOREARM STRIKE. . . With the crowd cheering, he then picks Finlay back up and whips him into the corner, runs in and hits a corner back flip kick. Finlay then staggers out of the corner as Yang then jumps up to the top rope with his back to Finlay, and as Finlay turns round, Yang comes off the top and looks to execute a PERFECT ASAI MOONSAULT. . . However, Finlay was able to sidestep it as Yang hit the mat chest first. Finlay then pulled him back up to his feet and tried to set him up for the CELTIC CROSS. . . Jamie Noble & Kid Kash ran down the aisle and attacked Super Crazy as Yang was able to slip down off Finlay’s shoulder and tamely clubbed him in the back. Yang then turns round and sees The Pitbulls stomping all over Crazy. He walks over to the ropes and is about to climb through them when Finlay approaches from behind, pulls him back round and this time nails him with the CELTIC CROSS. . . Finlay then rushes as he covers him 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . 3.

AFTERMATH: “Lambeg” hits as Finlay stands back up in the ring and The Pitbulls look inside and smile as they then back up the aisle as Finlay stomps Yang out of the ring

***CUT BACKSTAGE***

Batista is pacing up and down his locker room when Ric Flair walks in

***BIG POP***

Ric Flair:
Woah, Dave. . . Take it easy big man

Batista: Take it easy? . . . How can I take it easy? . . . I’ve had to sit at home for two weeks waiting, and waiting for tonight. . . just waiting for the chance to get my hands on Edge and get my rematch with Shawn. . . But what happens? . . . Edge isn’t here and I have to watch all these reminders about Shawn taking my title and rubbing my face in it tonight with this celebration

Ric Flair: Look, I know it’s not easy, but we’ve got a match coming up soon man and you can take out all your frustrations. . . You’re rematch will come Dave, and you will take back that title of yours. . . And then we will have the real celebration of a lifetime. . . WOOOOOO. . . You with me big guy?

Batista looks intense but seems to like the idea

Batista: I’m with you Ric

Ric Flair: Great, now let’s get ready, go out there and show everyone what Evolution is all about. . . WOOOOO

Flair and Batista have a little guy hug and then start to get ready

***COMMERCIAL BREAK***

***VIDEO PROMO***
We see Shawn Michaels’ third WWE Championship victory with the finish from the controversial match at the 1997 Survivor Series with Bret Hart before cutting to a still image promoting his Victory Celebration later on

Josh Matthews is standing by

Josh Matthews:

***HEAT***

Estrada and Umaga walk into the shot looking very relaxed

Josh Matthews: Armando, tonight Umaga will be going one on one with The Undertaker right here on Smackdown in the first ever Last Ride to take place on television. . . What are your thoughts right now?

Armando Alejandro Estrada (In his Cuban accent): What do ju want to me to say to dat Josh? . . . Do ju think for one second that this monster right here is scared of thee Un-der-taker?

***HEAT***

Armando Alejandro Estrada (In his Cuban accent): Josh, Umaga is not afraid of any body. . . Not you and not thee Un-der-taker. . . Tonight on Smackdown, ju will see history, but ju will also see the end of thee Un-der-taker at the hands of The Samoan Bulldozer, Umaga. Mark my words. . . HAHA, HAHA, HAHA

***HEAT***

Estrada walks out of the shot laughing as Umaga too looks insanely relaxed with Josh looking very confused

***VIDEO PROMO***

***CUT TO THE ARENA***

***MATCH #4***

Batista & Ric Flair
vs. Chris Masters & Charlie Haas

SUMMARY:
A pretty even match, down to Flair working a large part of it. Masters works him hard as he throws hard right hands and stomps him in the chest in the corner. Flair holds his stomach as Masters then whips him hard into the opposite corner and charges in. Flair lifts his boot up into Masters’ face, pushing him back as he staggers out of the corner. Flair then climbs up to the top rope, getting a big pop as he then jumps off hitting Masters as he turns round with a DOUBLE AXE HANDLE. . . A huge pop breaks out and Flair looks to take advantage as he goes for a cover 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . Kick out from Masters as Flair then stands back up and looks to lock in the FIGURE FOUR. . . Masters though is able to push him off with his feet before Flair can get it locked in. Masters then stands back up and walks up behind Flair, then goes for THE MASTERLOCK. . . This time Flair dodges the bullet as he is able to slip behind Masters before the hold can be applied and rolls him back, holding on to the tights 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . .

Masters uses his power to kick him off. Flair then gets back on his knees by Batista and tags in The Animal. Batista charges in at Masters and knocks him down with a hard clothesline. He reaches down and pulls Masters back up, whips him into the ropes and plants him with a SPINNING SIDE SLAM. . . Before The Animal can go for a cover, Haas steps through the ropes and charges at him as he gets back up. Batista is able to stand back up and hits Haas with a right hand, whips him into the ropes and plants him with a SPINEBUSTER. . . The crowd go nuts as Haas rolls off the apron to the outside and Batista stands back up to shake the ropes in a frenzy. He turns back round and sees Masters slowly getting back up and then lifts his arms up in the air, raising his thumbs up and then down. He walks back over to Masters, stomps him in the gut, lifts him above his head and brings him crashing down with the BATISTA BOMB. . . The Animal moves over to Masters and covers him 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . 3.

AFTERMATH: “I Walk Alone” blasts out as Batista gets back on his feet with a deadpan look on his face. Flair gets back in the ring and slaps him on the back before The Animal turns round and walks over to the ropes, then leaves the ring, followed by a surprised looking Flair

***CUT BACKSTAGE***

We see Umaga in the backstage area, pummelling The Undertaker across the back with hard kicks

***TONS OF HEAT***

Taker is on the floor, face down as The Samoan Bulldozer stomps the hell out of him. Armando Estrada is there too, yelling out instructions at Umaga as he then pulls Taker up to his feet and then pushes him into the wall and then whips him into a pile of steel pipes that then fall down on Taker. Estrada then tells Umaga to follow him as he then walks past the camera. Umaga then reaches down and drags Taker along the floor as the camera then pans to the left to follow them, and we see the hearse that is waiting backstage for the Last Ride match later on. Umaga continues to drag Taker on the floor and sits him up against one of the back tires. He then takes several steps back with Estrada continuing to relay instructions to the monster, who then charges back into the shot, hitting the Samoan Wrecking Ball against Taker’s head, with the head smashing back into the tyre. Taker just falls on his side, totally out cold as Estrada smiles and laughs out loud and then helps Umaga pull Taker up to his feet. Estrada then opens the back of the hearse as Umaga holds Taker up straight and then hits him with the Samoan Spike. The Undertaker just drops into the back as Umaga then climbs in the back and stares down at his body as Estrada then slams the door shut. He then walks round to the side and we see the driver on the floor, totally motionless too as Estrada climbs in the driving seat and drives out of the arena as the camera then cuts as the hearse turns out of the parking lot.

***MATCH #5***

WWE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP
Matt Hardy (c)
vs. Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP)

SUMMARY:
A real back and forth match with both men looking sharp. Matt looks in trouble in the corner as MVP hits him with a couple of hard rights to the face and then whips him into the opposite corner. He then charges into the corner and takes Matt’s head off with the PLAYER’S BOOT. . . Matt drops face first down to the canvas as MVP then drags him away from the ropes, turns him over and goes for a cover 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . Shoulder up from Matt and MVP looks frustrated as he stands back up and drags Matt up to his feet, hits him with a hard right and whips him into the ropes. As Matt comes back though, MVP ducks his head and Matt takes full advantage by kicking him right in the kisser. MVP’s head snaps up as Matt then plants him with the SIDE EFFECT. . .

A huge pop breaks out from the crowd and Matt rushes as he turns over to hook the leg 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . KICK OUT, JUST! . . . Sighs can be heard from the crowd as Matt then stands back up and stalks MVP, urging him up to his feet. Slowly he gets back up, and as he turns round, Matt stomps him in the gut and pulls MVP’s head under his arm, setting him up for the TWIST OF FATE. . . The crowd go nuts, but MVP is able to push Matt back into the ropes, and as Matt comes back, MVP grabs him around the upper chest and sends him crashing with an OVERHEAD BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX. . . The cheers turn into boos as MVP frantically crawls across the canvas and hooks Matt’s leg 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . HUGE POP. . . Matt is able to get his shoulder up, leaving MVP angry as hell. He looks at Micky Henson with a pissed look in his eyes, but it doesn’t make any difference as he stands back up and lifts Matt back up to his feet.

He then tries for an irish whip to the corner, but Matt reverses it and follows in straight away, hitting MVP with a clothesline and holds onto his neck. He then turns round and charges out of the corner, nailing him with a BULLDOG. . . Instead of going for a cover, Matt stands back up and runs to the corner, where he climbs up to the second rope and then jumps off, connecting with a DIVING LEG DROP. . . Another huge pop breaks out as Matt then covers the challenger 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . NOOO! . . . Matt holds his head in his hands, he thought that was it. He then gets back up to his feet as MVP starts to sit back up. Matt looks ready to explode as MVP gets back on his feet and turns round. Matt goes to kick him in the gut, but MVP catches his boot and spins him round, then tries to kick Matt in the gut. This time Matt grabs the foot, then lets go quickly and pulls a shocked looking MVP under his arm and plants him with the TWIST OF FATE. . . The crowd are on their feet as Matt turns over and hooks both legs 1 . . . . . 2 . . . . . 3.

AFTERMATH: “Live for the Moment” blasts out as Matt Hardy stands back up and is passed his United States title belt by Henson. Matt walks over to the corner and poses for the crowd as we go to commercial

***COMMERCIAL BREAK***

We see the hearse from earlier on with both the driver’s door and back door wide open in some dark area

The camera then pans round as we see Umaga pushing the motionless body of The Undertaker down to the floor of a graveyard. He then drags Taker by the arm and leans him up against a gravestone before he then chokes him out by driving his bare foot up against Taker’s throat, removing every last breath in Taker’s body. Taker just slips down the gravestone before Umaga then turns round and walks back several paces before running back at Taker and hitting him with the Wrecking Ball against the tombstone. Taker just drops to the side, completely out of it as Estrada looks on and laughs for several seconds before pulling out a cigar and lighting it as he and Umaga look down at Taker’s fallen body against the gravestone.

***CUT TO THE ARENA***

Michael Cole is standing in the middle of the ring with a microphone

Michael Cole:
Ladies and gentleman, it’s the time that you’ve all been waiting for. . . So let’s not keep you waiting any longer. . . Let me introduce to you, the new World Heavyweight Champion. . . “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels

“Sexy Boy” blasts out & Shawn Michaels walks out to the arena, past a group of trombone and trumpet players who are lined up along the aisle, playing a very upbeat and “Glorious” number

Michaels gets a massive pop and a standing ovation. A series of different pyro displays go off as balloons drop from the ceiling with confetti too

Michaels gets in the ring and looks overwhelmed as he shakes Michael Cole’s hand before taking it all in, looking into the crowd and mouthing the words “Thank you”. He looks emotional as hell for a good minute before the music stops

Michael Cole: Shawn, it’s clearly a very emotional night for you tonight, just like it was thirteen days ago at Saturday Night’s Main Event when you became the NEW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION

***BIG POP***

Michael Cole: Shawn, I have to ask you first off, how does this feel right now to be standing here as the World Heavyweight Champion

Shawn still looks emotional as the crowd cheer again, but he eventually regains his composure

Shawn Michaels: Michael, it’s been a long time since I’ve been a World Champion around here. . . a long, long time, but the cold fact is that the show stopper is back

***HUGE POP***

Shawn Michaels: There are no ifs or buts about it Michael. Ever since I came back after my head injury last summer, and came here to Smackdown, I have done nothing but give my best night in night out just so that nights like these could become possible again. Not just for me, my family, but for every single one of these fans who have supported me my entire career. And for that, I thank every single one of you from the bottom of my heart

Michael Cole: Shawn, I have to say that I have called some great matches in my time, and your match with Batista two weeks ago was without doubt one of the best I have had the fortune to watch. . . How did that match rank for you?

Shawn Michaels: Well Michael, I’m glad you brought that up, because there’s something I need to say to Batista. . . First, I thought it was a good match too, and it was proof that I have given everything that I possibly can since I came back. . . I put my body on the line, the same as Batista, and we put on a match for the ages for all these people. . . It wasn’t based on hating each others guts and going out there to beat the holy hell out of each other. . . it was based one thing. . respect

***POP***

Shawn Michaels: And that is why I have to offer Dave every single ounce of regret and sympathy that I have, because in no way did I want our match to end the way it did. . . I figured that Edge being the way he is would find some way to get in between me and Dave, just like he has for the past six weeks. And boy did he do that alright. . . That’s why Michael, as overwhelming as it is right now, it still feels kind of hollow, all because of one man, and that man is Edge. . .

***HEAT***

Shawn Michaels: He’s done everything he can to meddle in my relationship with Dave from day one, and as much as he wanted to make me suffer, he screwed up and got the wrong man at the last second, costing Dave the World title while it now rests on my shoulder. . . And that is why I am feeling so many different emotions Michael. It just doesn’t feel right me being out here as the World Champion when I didn’t win the match fair and square like I intended. . . I pride myself Michael on coming out to this ring and beating everyone I face by my own means, not by having some scrawny little punk like Edge waltz into this ring and take a moment like this right now and turn it upside down. . . Tonight should be a special occasion Michael, and if I earned this in the right way, then I would be the life and the soul of this party, BUT THE FACT IS I’M NOT

Michael Cole: Shawn, what are you saying?

Shawn Michaels: Michael, my heart is telling me to do the right thing, but this head of mine is telling me to suck it up, move on and get on with it like The Heartbreak Kid of old would have had. . . But if I am going to be honest to myself and all these people, I have to do the right thing and forfeit the World Heavyweight Championship back to Batista

***HEAT***

Michael Cole: Are you sure that’s what you want to do Shawn? There’s no rule that says you have to do that

Shawn looks at Cole and is about to talk when. . .

"I Walk Alone" blasts out & Batista walks out to the top of the ramp

***POP***

Batista:
Shawn, I respect what you’re saying, but as pissed as I am too, I don’t want you to give up the World title. . . What I want is my rematch

***POP***

Batista: Not right now Shawn, but I want that title back. . . We both know who is responsible for this, and believe you me Edge will pay for what he did, but I want you to know that I don’t have any resentment towards you whatsoever

Shawn walks over to the ropes and nods his head with a respectful look at Batista

Shawn Michaels: Dave, I respect that and you know I will give you your rematch whenever you want it. You can trust me on that

Batista nods, turns round and walks to the back as Michaels smiles slightly for the first time in the night. With the camera zoomed in on him, he then turns round, but is taken down to the mat by a spear out of nowhere from Edge

***MAJOR HEAT***

Edge stands back up as Michael Cole escapes the ring straight away. Edge looks down at Michaels for a couple of seconds before reaching down and picking up the World title belt. He stares right at it for several seconds before dropping it across Michaels’ chest and then turning to the face the crowd with a big smile on his face as Smackdown comes to its close

SMACKDOWN REVIEW
BY SC2004.

- I see you left out the whole McMahon family saga from your opening SNME video recap package. I think I was the only one who really liked that, but then again I would. Obviously something you want to forget about then? Ha, Ha.

- The commentary at the start was very good. You managed to hype the entire night in a matter of seconds. Looking forward to the Shawn Michaels celebration, I’m sure it won’t go according to plan. Last ride match is awesome and we also get a rematch between MVP and Matt hardy. Wasn’t expecting the last match, thought you’d have it at the Rumble.

- Nice fast paced opener and the aftermath with the attack from Chavo was cool. Obviously your setting up a match for the Rumble here between these two. “Happy bloody new year” I loved that line. Good to see Batista riled up. Shame edge isn’t here, although I have a sneaky suspicion he actually is.

- A I’m pissed Miz and Morrison lost here, not that’s it a big deal or anything, just think they’re great fun to watch. I got told that I should have them as single wrestlers, but I personally prefer them as a tag team.

- Really solid, well written in character backstage promo involving Benjamin, Hass, Master and Regal. You really couldn’t of done that any better. I was seriously impressed here as you managed to further the feud between Benjamin and Hass as well as get Batista his match for tonight. That’s great planning IMO.

- Loving MVP in that backstage interview, man he came across so angry, which I guess was the point. Of course being MVP he also managed to be cocky, rude and arrogant all at the same time, got to love that. The match tonight should be good.

- Glad Finlay won, but it wasn’t exactly clean. A cool finish, with the distraction costing Wang any chance of winning this. More Batista talking, think I may cry. At least Flair is here to save the day. Glad to see Flair talking some sense in Batista and calming him down a little.

- I don’t know if we needed to hear from Estrada, but there was nothing wrong with the interview. I guess as we are over half way in, you have decided to keep Michaels off screen until his celebration. I’m finding it odd that Batista, the former champ, is getting so much air time and new champ has had none yet!

- Glad to see Batista pinning Masters and not Haas. I think you need to keep Haas strong going into a feud with Benjamin. I knew it, I just knew we weren’t getting the Umaga, Taker match tonight, too good to be true. Brutal attack here and so effective. I wonder where they’re taking the Undertaker?

- Have to say that I was totally surprised Matt won cleanly here, but I guess it brings an end to the feud as any other finish would of prolonged it. Great match. I can’t talk about realism after my last show, that’s for sure, but I think the follow up to the taker attack happened to soon after the initial incident. Anyway, I was kind of let down here. I expected something better to happen, but it was entertaining.

- This is strange, having Cole in the ring with Michaels, brings me back about 10 years. Ha. It was cool what you did, but it wasn’t much of a celebration. High drama for sure. Knew Batista wouldn’t let Shawn go through with it. I was right about Edge, that was cool and the right thing to do. This would of worked better as an opener to the show. I liked it a lot though.

OVERALL- Probably one of the best shows I’ve read from you so far or from any other booker on here. Just solid promo’s and matches throughout. The entertainment level never dropped. The only thing I didn’t like was how often Batista was used, he dominated the show IMO and that should have been Michaels. Maybe that’s why I think the closing segment would have been better as the opener. Great show though dude!

Bradley's Smackdown Review

The Shocking events from Saturday Night's Main Event is enough to get me reading Smackdown. I remember your first Smackdown in this thread and I said I didn't like it as much as RAW but Smackdown is now looking awesome.

It looks like JBL has joined RAW permanently then? Good move and he is pushed a lot more than he did in real life because HHH is a bigger target.

Nice way to get Dykstra over with a credible name like Shannon Moore (revert Moore back to his '03 persona plz) but it was still a big win and you are really progressing with the CW division and it looks insanely strong. If you haven't already I suggest bringing in Super Crazy and Juvi to this brand. DAMN I don't remember Chavo even featuring in this thread but he is damn good as a heel so it was a shock to see him as a face.

Regal was excellent here, Batista seemed to be his normal shouty self but Regal was definitely on key. Edge must be lying (I wouldn't have said family emergency because of the uhh... Benoit thing). I predict Edge will send a text to Regal during the show. Lovely line from Regal at the end though, using the utmost of his classic British wit and sarcastic comments(!)

The UK Pack are looking rather dominant at this point, Morrison should get a push, have him feud with someone like Matt Hardy down the road but it was always nice to see these two lose and you are really building up the UK Pack well, not too fast as I tend to do. This is one of your (many) success stories.

I really had to laugh at the gay comment from Benjamin but I hope this is all an elaborate plan from Benjamin and Haas to kick out Masters and feud with the UK Pack at 'Mania because I would mark so hard. Masters really does sound like an arrogant little shit and someone who tells stories like a little kid. Top marks for that. Benjamin shouldn't be the heel in it all but a good shoot there saying he has no charisma and I would love to see Haas defeat Benjamin at the next SNME. Ha! Masters gets his comeuppance but now it looks like they are heels, who are the heels again? Good match for later on tonight with Ric Flair FINALLY being used here well. (I am saying this because he was too good in your old thread and had a great future).

Nice use of MVP's arrogance here saying it will all change tonight, MVP should have smacked that bitch up to be honest. It's a bit late for Christmas but MVP was just gold, bigging himself up, saying he wasn't pinned but he does make a good point but it was good he made an excuse.

Oh, there's Crazy. Like you said, this was a good match, very intriguing and a basic story outlines straight away with physicality vs. speed but it was nice to see the Pitbulls return (I think, losing my memory a bit) but I didn't see the need for that because now Yang has nothing to do for the Rumble, I would have liked to have seen Crazy instead of Yang but never mind.

The Flair promo was a little iffy, Flair was fine but Batista needs a little more characer; desperation doesn't work and the Evolution line shouldn't have been used unless you were trying to fire Batista up. LOL at Guy Hug.

This Last Ride match should have had build a little earlier as it must be coming up soon but good dialect from Estrada so that was good.

AHHHHH I'm scared! I think it's pretty obvious who that is but I am not going to spoil it for peeps.

Good to see the New World's Greatest (or my version, Master Charisma of a Tree Stump) not getting jobbed out and they used good teamwork here to isolate Flair and that was very tactical but it was inevitable with Batista there to get the hot tag and he then dominates, the end. Still a very solid match.

OMG The Last Ride match had started and is over within a long paragraph... Kinda disappointed as I was hoping for this to be stretched out across the whole night as a pre taped thing but Umaga was truly dominant which was good but I wonder what the hell is going to happen now? I hope you go for the jugular and don't bring Undertaker back for a few months until 3 weeks before 'Mania and then set the match up from there.

A VERY solid match up between MVP and Matt Hardy, definitely back and forth and because this match was on TV it highlights MVP's desperation to get his title back as quickly as possible and he was so close to achieving this but Hardy winning was the right route to take and MVP can take something away because he nearly beat Hardy but I just have one question, why doesn't anyone ever push the Hardyz to main event? Not one to blow my own horn but I have Jeff in the main event (kind of) and I hope after he and Punk are finished that Jeff can get called up to the main event.

See you in 3 months Undertaker!

How lame, why can't you get Tazz to interview Michaels because Cole annoys me no end. It all had a big time feel to it didn't it? Finally HBK gets his recognition that he so fully deserves. It wasn't too dissimilar to the Flair thing, offering Batista sympathy but it really wasn't good 'ol HBK's fault but it all seems a bit pointless. You know if you would have forfeited Shawn's title I probably would have to kill you but the rematch is the best option. OH MY! Cole got out of their quick but Edge stays strong and what an end to a fantastic show and I see a Triple Threat at the Rumble.

Overall, an amazing show, I really don't remember a better Smackdown from you in your 100+ pages in your combined threads so this was truly magical, rarely a bad word to say and you have cemented your face as my favourite booker. I don't know why and I probably will get shit on but I am giving this show 10/10
