Re: WWE: A Strong Response

Thanks guys for those reviews, they are very much appreciated and i will get round to returning them for your next shows as i have two days worth of full on college work, starting tonight and then again next week when i will be flat out until Thursday

I just want to comment on the Vince taking Aurora storyline from SNME, i could see it was too much that night and kind of took over the show, i just wanted it to end the show and the year with the bang it deserved. And to clarify, there will be no Raw and Smackdown for roughly two weeks (BTB time) as SNME was the last show of the year (22nd) and i have decided to be generous and give them all a nice christmas break - How lovely of me! The next show will be 4th January Smackdown episode where the Royal Rumble build up starts

However, i wrote this sit down interview while i was bored at college last week. Until the next Smackdown preview, this is the last piece for over a week or so

It appears from Saturday Night’s Main Event that JBL has been revealed as Vince McMahon’s illegitimate son, is that the case?
Without saying too much, it seems to be that way from went down at the weekend. But then again, there have been so many twists and turns along the way that there maybe another couple coming around the corner. That is something you can put money on. As for JBL though, he has been itching to get back in the ring since he was cleared to compete a few months ago, and we found an opportunity to bring him back in. JBL is great asset to the company and will be given the chance to shine on his return in the New Year whether he is Vince’s son or not.

CM Punk’s heel turn has gone down very well, however the current storyline with Jeff Hardy has been pushing boundaries lately. Do you think you have gone too far at times?
We talk a lot, and he is very happy with being allowed to push boundaries, but we obviously have limits. Of course the two individuals in the crowd who were involved in the promo on Raw last time out were plants. We wouldn’t allow any of our superstars to insult or intimidate any member of the audience, children in particular. We discussed that angle beforehand and agreed to go ahead with it, some will say rightly and some will disagree. In this day and age, people see worse on TV and just because this is wrestling, it is highlighted more. Punk didn’t go too far and we think it was at a reasonable level.

Is there an update on the condition of John Cena?
Yes there is. He has been doing very well in his rehabilitation, but no return date has been given by the medical team yet. There is an indication that he will be back earlier than was originally expected.

What about other injured stars like Kane, Gregory Helms and Victoria?
I think you will have seen from the last episode of Smackdown that Kane will be making his return soon and you will find out more about that very soon. Of course Kane wasn’t actually injured, he was just removed from television in preparation for being repackaged.

Victoria wasn’t injured either, it was sold well on TV and she will be returning in the New Year. Gregory Helms is doing some work in the gym, but nothing too strenuous as we all know it was a serious injury that he suffered and no chances can be taken. When they come back, they will all be valuable assets to the roster.

Have the Royal Rumble plans been finalised?
Yes, so has Wrestlemania. Some of the match outcomes for Wrestlemania have not been decided, but 9 matches are set. Those plans can change and often do with injuries, but also with rapid development that we can’t ignore them. But the Royal Rumble is all set, number of entry, eliminations and match outcomes too.

Kenny Dykstra has been receiving quite a push as of late and has been showing signs of becoming a very strong heel superstar. What plans do you have for him?
He has great in ring ability and is being given the chance now to show that in the cruiserweight division. It is a big chance for him to develop and for us to see how far he can go. So far, he is progressing very well and we are extremely pleased with him.

Is there a draft going to be taking place this year?
I think it’s safe to say that there will be, we just don’t know when. The open house rules where any superstar can switch brand has worked well over the last couple of months and also gives the shock element. That will continue as well, but it would be unusual for a draft not to take place.

Chris Harris and Ron Killings have officially signed with the WWE, we’ve seen promotional videos for Harris. When will they debut?
Very soon is the answer. They both have worked dark matches and house shows, and are good to go.

It was rumoured to be the case that The Big Show was not returning after discussions a while back. Was there any truth to that?
There were talks and there was a lot of incorrect speculation. We have planned up to Wrestlemania and there is no room for The Big Show, so it would be inappropriate to bring him in now. We have a strong card for Wrestlemania and are happy with it as it stands right now. Paul has said he will be looking to come back after that, and we will always be interested in bringing him back in if the deal is right.

Plenty of new stars have been coming in from developmental territories recently. Will any more new faces be coming in from there or other organisations soon?
We always look at free agents when they become available. We have looked at the option of bringing in Raven, but no more than that. There will be a familiar face returning very soon as part of a storyline that is unfolding at the moment. As for developmental stars, I think we have brought up a lot recently, so there might just be the odd one or two who will be called up to the main roster.

There are rumours going around the tag team division possibly breaking up or being split. Can you confirm these rumours?
We have seen a drop in the number of very good strong tag teams coming along over the last five years in comparison to the years before. There have been some good teams obviously, but it has been on a decline in recent years. You won’t see tag team wrestling disappear from the WWE as we take the division seriously and will continue to promote the division on TV, whether it is on just one brand instead of two. At the moment, we still plan on having two sets of champions across both brands.

Are there any superstars that are seriously impressing you and are in line for a push in 2008?
CM Punk has really impressed everyone backstage, since turning heel. He seems to be enjoying his work more and has more creative input, taking his character to a new level.

Kenny Dykstra is another who has really impressed, as has Matt Hardy. Other names stick out, guys like MVP and Shelton Benjamin, but it would be unfair to say that they are going to be pushed to the moon, when that is simply not the case.

Over and out. That was just an online piece to explain a few things and get inside my mind a little bit

LOL, I'm not sure if a WWE Booker would be as blunt as that in real-life but you sure were.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the "Road to WrestleMania". And of course, I'm looking forward to the return of the repackaged Kane. For the love of God don't debut Jacob Goodnight!!

Re: WWE: A Strong Response

First I have to say I was a bit harsh on your finish to the main event at SNME. I've softened on it since since it really was in character for Orton and the Vinny screw job was sweet. I'm all about clean finishes which is why it put me off at first

I like the interview. Very forthcoming on a lot of issues. I can't wait to see the Big Red Machine back or whatever he will be called

Bring up "Classic" Colt Cabana soon please

Re: WWE: A Strong Response

SNME Review

Great way to start the show by starting off with the cage match, as it starts the show off on a bang. Was pretty sure Hardy would get the win because in the ending of the match it was pretty much all MVP offence. Very well written match and the suplex off the cage spot was done very well. Very enjoyable ending with the reversal of finishers leading to Hardy getting the win. Expect Hardy to stay with the title for a couple of months now, and hopefully you give a big push to MVP.

Pretty lame Batista promo, much better when is a big nasty badass. But still was in character and resembled Batista’s promos in current day WWE. Expect his title reign to come to an end.

Very enjoyable promo, despite maybe lasting a bit too long. Steph pregnant angle? As long as you don’t turn it out to be a wacky current day WWE angle like Vince being the father lol. Am expecting Vince to turn into his normal self any time soon, as I can’t see him staying as a face for long.

Beth/Trish would make a very good women’s match IRL, and in this thread it looked to be a very enjoyable contest. You made Trish look very resilient with all the times she was kicking out, but there was no chance she was going to beat Beth so finish was not surprising. It will interesting to see if you keep Trish around in this thread, or If you just used her for that match.

Short but solid Edge promo, and I expect him to help HBK to win the title.

LMAO Vince is a baby robber! Very interesting turn of events and looks like the face turn for Vince is over quicker than I thought.

I enjoyed this match, again likes the previous matches was very well written. Was very back and forth on who I thought would win, but glad that Jericho got the victory and hopefully this builds onto a push for him from here. Aftermath keeps Kennedy looking reasonably strong by getting his revenge for the loss.

Another McMahon segment which isn’t so good, as I get tired from too many McMahon promos in a show. Look forward to the Orton/HHH match as I expect Vince to get involved in that match.

HBK takes the title as expected. Great booking for this match as you kept both men looking strong, with Edge costing Batista the match. Finish reminded me a lot of the finish from the WWF Title match at Summerslam 1997 where HBK accidentally hit Taker with the steel chair leading to Bret Hart getting the title. Finish makes it look like Edge and Batista will be feuding into 2008, and it will be interesting to see what challengers you have for HBK. Book HBK v MVP please

Here is the main event. Good bit before the match with some good heelish stuff by Orton trying to dodge the match only to get attacked. This was definitely match of the night and the ending surprised me a lot with JBL coming down and attacking Triple H which means that he must be the son. JBL is a good choice for Vince’s son as they are both very similar. Looks like JBL v HHH is going to be booked for Wrestlemania which should lead to a very entertaining feud.

Overall was a very solid show, only thing I wasn’t so keen on was the show seemed very much based around the McMahon saga seeing as most of the promos were dedicated to it. However the matches were very well written and again was a very strong show.

Re: WWE: A Strong Response

SNME Review

Matt Hardy vs. MVP: Cage match
An entertaining match to start off the show and for the most part it seemed pretty realistic, (the real WWE probably wouldn’t do the superplex off the cage spot, but who cares, I’d imagine both men would be able to take the bump). I did feel there where a few awkward points in the flow, example being Matt whipping MVP into the ropes, only to kick him as he returns and give him a Russian leg sweep… why whip him into the ropes for that? Or Matt dodging MVP’s punch, then kicking him and delivering the side effect, when he could have just hooked him up for it after ducking the punch. But these are just nit pickings really. Overall I thought it was a good, believable match to kick things off, with a surprise result as well, since I was sure MVP was going to win it.

Batista promo
Decent short promo, that got all the points across that it needed to. You missed a few words out and there was a bit of annoying repetition but that’s really all I could find to complain about. I did find the subject matter interesting though. Normally in a situation like this, the wrestler who was accidentally attacked would probably attack back and not think twice about it. So it was interesting to see that Batista acknowledged his mistake.

Triple H, Vince, Steph promo
Hmm interesting to see that you’re portraying Triple H and Steph’s relationship on screen (instead of just the smark jokes in real life). Everyone seemed to be in character during the promo, and I have a feeling the whole pregnancy situation could lead to something big.

Beth Phoenix vs. Trish Stratus
This was an interesting combination, and a pretty decent match as well (better then most WWE women’s matches anyway). All the momentum shifts and near falls made it exciting, however there where times when some counters seemed a bit messy (cradle suplex into a bulldog) and some moves weren’t sold well (Trish’s bulldog… Trish getting right back up to his the chick kick after being thrown to the mat). Still though there where some tense near falls (such as Trish putting her foot on the rope after the BVD) and overall it was another enjoyable match. Huge win for Beth though, especially since it was a clean victory. Good booking in my view, since she’ll probably be the future of the division.

Edge promo
Wasn’t too keen on this, as it sounded a bit too generic for Edge at times. I’m guessing this means Edge is going to have some impact on the World Heavyweight title match.

2nd Triple H, Steph promo
I hate to say it, but Triple H’s opening comments made me cringe, just can’t see him talking about “dream worlds" and such. Plus why is he so happy about Vince helping them with the new child when only a few minutes ago he didn’t want him being left alone with Aurora? Though Vince leaving with Aurora was interesting enough, looking forward to seeing where this goes. But I can imagine Vince’s reasoning being totally innocent, and this just being a way to build more friction between him and HHH.

Chris Jericho vs. Mr Kennedy
Another good match, which in my view made both men look strong. Glad to see you got all of their signature moves in. I was a bit surprised at first to see Jericho not go for the lionsault after the bulldog, but I like that you’re not being restricted to the standard combos. Though after Jericho got his knees up for the Kenton bomb, you said Kennedy landed chest first onto them. I think you meant to say back . Also Kennedy kicked Y2J in the gut to set him up for the mic check, when he could have easily hit it after ducking the punch. But besides from those minor, minor things, it was a soild match.

Triple H, Steph, Shane promo
Another decent promo, although a few things seemed a bit off… “ I said all along your dad was a sick son of a bitch, I just can’t believe you fell for it”. I think you just mis-worded that, but HHH just said that they fell for his claims about Vince being a sick SOB. Also I don’t really see Shane and Steph being concerned about Orton like they where in the end (unless there’s something I’m not aware of… haven’t read a lot of this thread).

Shawn Michaels vs. Batista
This was a really exciting and unpredictable match. The result was shocking, as I was 100% sure that Edge was going to cost HBK the title. Great twist to it. Still had a few problems with the match though. I thought the crowd’s reactions where a bit weird, at some points you said it was 50-50, then Batista was getting the most heat of the night, which was confusing. What made it more confusing was that HBK was cheating with eye rakes and low blows. Ok so just because someone’s a face doesn’t mean they have to play by the rules all the time, but I didn’t think there was any need for you to have HBK to do so in this particular match. But anyway besides from that, this was the most exciting match so far.

Triple H vs. Randy Orton
I liked the promo before the match got underway. It could have been a little bit longer, but it got the job done . I thought the start of the match was a bit dull (well, the start of the ending I guess). But it was all very realistic… and you get extra marks for having Orton use the overdrive . There where some great near falls, especially after the first RKO. I really thought Randy had won it, and was about to rant about the poor finish, how there weren’t any pedigree attempts etc. Once I realised what had happened, I was hooked until the end… in fact I was so hooked, that I pretty much forgot about Vince and Aurora. I thought the finish was done well, and JBL’s appearance was a surprise… I’m looking forward to finding out if he really is Vince’s son.

I really enjoyed this show. The match write ups where very entertaining, as were the bits of storylines that I grasped from this show (the Aurora one was the most unique and interesting though). There weren’t any significant or stand-out promos, but they all got the job done. In the end it was a pretty unpredictable and exciting show. I’ll defiantly try to read more of your work .

Re: WWE: A Strong Response

Thanks for the reviews guys. Thanks for pointing those mistakes out Sneapy, it's something i need to be aware of when i write my next set of big matches. The McMahon angle was overdone on the night, maybe i could have split a couple of the promos up

I'll be on a reviewing mission today as i won't have the chance from tomorrow until Thursday. If i owe you reviews, i will review your next show if i missed your current one

Re: WWE: A Strong Response

Bradley's Saturday Night's Main Event Review

No video package was slightly lame but who needs a video package when you have such awesome storylines but I really would have loved to have seen Punk/Jeff.

JBL didn't sound overly heelish and I would push for an in ring return so Tazz can return as that is a lot more favourable for me, personally, anyway. Was it me or did Matt get owned in the beginning? Never mind, the match progressed very well as Hardy was getting dominated he let rip with a massive momentum shifting move which really helped the match in my opinion. It's PLAYA's boot not Player (I think) The side effect from the cage was a fantastic move and it really showed MVP's desperation to get the hell out of there and I liked that. After that massive superplex the match really picked up and when you said "After 10 seconds" I would have let the section drag on to highlight that but it makes Hardy look strong anyway. Another desperation move from MVP with the low blow but it all ended too quickly from there so it took away from the content but the ending was so cool I'll let it slide but it was a REAL shock to see Matt win but it will be interesting to see MVP chase the title or move up to the World title picture with the winner of the match tonight.

A very emotional promo from Batista here and a lot of strong words used and it looks as if you are going the way of the WWE (although you must have thought of this first)

Fucking hell Vince has gone ever so slightly mental and obviously something seems fishy but please don't go for the abduction storyline as it will be laying it on a little thick.

Trish, in Nigel's thread? More chance of Khali winning a world title or Benoit killing his kid (wait...) I have mixed feelings about this match, don't get me wrong, it was a good match but Trish's reputation has been tarnished by coming back and it seemed liked she was slightly jobbed out but she showed good fighting spirit kicking out of various tough moves. I really can't believe the ending as it was so cool with Beth looking exceedingly strong but it's such a shame Trish didn't win but where can the women's division go from here? It can only go so far but it looks like Beth's reign will end at 'Mania.

Oooh Edge is angry? I knew he would be here but not this intense and he HAS to interfere tonight.

Fuck Abduction! This is all getting rather personal but I still want to see Shane in the ring damnit!

It all started rather suddenly but your writing characteristic is really shining through because the match flowed extremely well with no stop start sentences but it all seemed to build up to spot after spot but I loved seeing their signature moves and it was a very entertaining match to say the least but i can't help thinking Punk/Jeff would have been better. I loved the struggling segment from the Walls of Jericho, very well written but I am not liking (in general) the lionsault not being used as a proper finisher and you made it look weak but the codebreaker is like my 3rd fave move of all time anyway (TKO and Sweet Chin Music after it) Momentum is even after Kennedy attacks him, it all seems very similar to the ending of my Punk/Kennedy match

God the plot is getting thicker is this EastEnders??? I didn't get the "You two and Randy better hope you do" maybe I'm just dumb, explanation needed.

How can this match not be awesome? It definitely was MOTN so far; iffy decision with the sharpshooter as he looked like a heel which I wasn't liking a lot. I loved how Batista was manhandling HBK through some of it but the Sweet Chin Music should only be used once and when HBK went for it it just didn't seem right. LOL at the boos for Batista but the ending was insanely awesome (my 2nd favourite ending in both of your threads) and sorry I forgot to MARK OUT FOR AN HBK TITLE WIN!

I need to get on with my Set Scenes for Much Ado About Nothing (essay tbh) so this will be brief. Fantastic match, the intensity of HHH was extremely evident just a few points: a lot of good uses of moves but I saw something VERY unrealistic with HHH pulling his head back from the punt but the ending was so amazing and the whole storyline in general and JBL attacking was such a shock but Orton seemed to be pushed to the side a bit and the WWE Champion not being the focal point of the match put me off and HHH nearly winning but getting distracted and losing was made for TV in my opinion but it was still a good match.

Overall a very good show and I can't wait for the Rumble judging by this and you have produced one of THE great storylines in the BTB section currently and I will give you a nice big 9.5/10

Thanks for the feedback Bradley, it's all good and i can see some things now that i can work on for the Rumble. The Punk/Jeff comments have been mentioned by a few, but there is a reason why they weren't on this card, and you will find out why very soon
