Smackdown Review

Good opening promo, all four characters were in character but the only problem I had was that it dragged on a lot mainly because of the Matt Stryker bit at the end which was a bit pointless, and you could have had the Stryker bit as another short promo. Big announcement about the main event at Survivor Series and nice booking for tonight with Batista special referee for Umaga v Edge.

Always a good choice to start off the wrestling side of the show with a Cruiserweight match to get everyone pumped up for the rest of the show. From the ending it looked like a pretty good match, would of expected some interference from someone in that Cruiserweight match at SS but nice to see it ending with no interference. Good victory for Chavo giving him some momentum for SS.

Nice little promo here and no longer is Umaga on Edge’s side which adds some spice to the match at Survivor Series.

Nice promo here, interesting to see Dykstra in the CW Division. Looks like Johnny Jeter and Matt Sydal will be a tag team which could help the tag team division a bit.

Good six man tag team match here and I am liking that you are giving Burchill a bit of a push beating Masters continually. However I can not see Burchill hitting Masters with the C4.

Decent promo here which got interesting when Matt Hardy came out and we had the confrontation between the two. Another big match made between MVP and Hardy, but I can’t see Hardy taking the title off him. Only problem with the promo was their characters sounded a bit off at times but otherwise it was alright.

Well you made it an interesting promo even though all three men have a personality of a pencil. Will be interesting to see what Masters is planning.

Kane v Kevin Thorn would be a pretty good big man feud to see. Looked like a pretty good match not too keen on the ending but smart booking to continue the feud and at the end of it you made Kevin Thorn look very strong with the beatdown he put on Kane.

Nice promo here, Finlay being on Team Orton Is a good decision. Will be interesting to see who the second teams captain is.

Great match here between Umaga and Batista, bit surprised that this wasn’t main event at first but looking at the ending of the show I can see why now. Good ending to the match with Batista attacking Edge leading to Umaga get the victory. Great aftermath as well with Umaga beating down Batista and you have made him look the favourite going into the triple threat match

Very good main event and good to see that HBK is the guy behind the save us promos instead of the obvious Chris Jericho. Team HBK v Team Orton should be a great match and looks like you are going to continue the Orton/HBK feud.

Overall was a pretty good show again, Survivor series is surely building up to be a good show. 8/10

Thanks for the reviews guys, the Matt Striker part of the opening promo was something i debated taking out, but i decided against it as i needed him in the show to make a statement and i had other promos that needed to be there. It was a mistake i admit, worst thing is i knew it too!

Anyways, some news from my 21st favourite website and yours, Pro Wrestling Insider!

Wow, what a week in the WWE. Stephanie McMahon announces herself and Triple H as an on screen married couple to infuriate her father, Shawn Michaels makes his return as the face of the Save_Us videos, knocking back the anticipated return of Chris Jericho and we see the Survivor Series card develop into what looks like being an amazing show, based around traditional elimination matches.

Where do we start? I guess the main talking point right now is the return of HBK last night on Smackdown. Many were expecting it to be Jericho as we found out that the Saviour was going to be revealed, but we should have guessed, being in San Antonio that it was only going to be one person and the show stopper is now back and back as a team captain against Orton’s team at the Survivor Series. This match is hoped to be one of the biggest ever elimination matches in Survivor Series history and with Finlay already on Team Orton, expect to see MVP added to that list and we hear one more as it will be a 4 on 4 match. Right now, Michaels’ partners are expected to be from Matt Hardy, Triple H, The Undertaker and Rey Mysterio. That is not confirmed as Rey could be ruled out until after the show and other twists are to be expected after this week. As for Michaels’ future, it is not sure whether his debut on Smackdown was con-incidental or not as he may in fact be joining the brand from Raw, but there is no official word just yet.

As we saw last night, Shane McMahon announced that he and Linda will be at Raw on Monday night to try and smooth out the problems between Stephanie, daddy dearest and Triple H after the revelation this past week. This is a storyline set to run for a while, we’re not sure what role Shane will have, but if he is to side with anyone, it is bound to be with his dad. From what we here, there could be another cat let out of the bag this week as far as this storyline goes but will not be on the same scale as what we heard this week.

The Survivor Series is shaping up nicely now and the card looks very appealing to the fans who enjoy the traditional elimination matches. At the moment, there are three scheduled and two of them will decide singles titles too with both the Intercontinental and Cruiserweight Championships on the line for the first time ever in this kind of match. We are also led to believe that there could be at least two more elimination matches added to the card in addition to a Womens title match. We learnt that Batista will be defending his World title against Umaga and the fit again Edge at the pay-per-view and right now, it is not decided who will leave as champion and the possibility of Umaga winning is being strongly thought through as creative are very high on him.

Last night, Shane McMahon announced on Smackdown that the new General Manager will be in place next week. We have absolutely no idea who it will be, with Mick Foley being the only acting GM in with a shout as Shane, Stephanie & Edge are all pre-occupied with their own storylines right now. Other names in the frame are Eric Bischoff, Stonecold Steve Austin, JBL, Ted DiBiase (now that his sons are in developmental) & Dusty Rhodes.

We saw Kane taken apart by Kevin Thorn with a steel chair on last night’s episode of Smackdown. The reasoning of this is Kane will take some time out for a while and will most likely be repackaged for a return in late December or early 2008, at the same time giving Thorn a push up the roster that will surely divide fans. Again, creative are very high on Thorn and will continue to use him while he’s still over.

Questions have been asked about the situation between The World’s Greatest Tag Team, MVP & Chris Masters. They are not currently in a faction, but the plan is to group them together very soon. MVP, Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas have worked together on screen lately, and this week Masters joined the tag champs to take on the British trio of Drew McIntyre, Paul Burchill & Dave Taylor simply because he is in the process of putting Burchill over right now. The likelihood is Masters will be like the heavy for the three athletes if everything goes as planned.

Johnny Jeter & Matt Sydal made their Smackdown debuts this week and quickly told us they would be part of the elimination match to crown a new Cruiserweight Champion at the Survivor Series and that next week they will make their in ring debuts against Kenny Dykstra & Jamie Noble. Expect quite a push for these two as they are both highly thought of backstage.

PWInsider.com

We spoke to Stephanie McMahon earlier today at a WWE press conference for the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event in December, here are some important quotes.

On the next Saturday Night’s Main Event – “Taking out the majority of our pay-per-views like we have, means that Saturday Night’s Main Event will become more like a pay-per-view. It will have high profile matches and will become more wrestling based than the entertainment side you have seen since its return on NBC.”

On the angle with her and Triple H – “It is something that has been discussed over a long period and we felt that the time was right to bring out into the open as far as television goes. You are always getting to get negative feedback as it’s part of this business and always will be, but we feel this angle will bring a lot of entertainment, twists and turns on Raw for a good period of time.”

On the Survivor Series – “We wanted to make our pay-per-views more meaningful and by keeping the big four, bringing back the King of the Ring and taking the shows to large arenas, we felt we had to go one step further and actually make the shows unmissable to our fans. The traditional elimination match is a concept we are proud of and it is something we believe is unique in the business and more importantly, excites the fans as it’s something they don’t get to see very often. And that’s exactly why we’re putting so many of them on this year’s show, with the added bonus of championships being on the line in some of them too.”

On the possibility of bringing in Michael Shane, Low Ki & Ron Killings – “Not really my area right now but all I can say is that Michael Shane has been training at FCW as far as I’m aware on a tryout basis. Being Shawn Michael’s cousin is obviously something that could possibly help him down the line, but it’s not gone as far as being offered any kind of contract yet. I’ve not spoken to anyone about him specifically since he’s been in Florida, but apparently he is doing okay. As for the other two, it’s just rumour and if I’m getting my facts right, they’ve only just been released or quit in the last week so it’s hard to comment. Ron’s worked for us before, so we know a little about him, whether we bring him in or not isn’t an issue right now. You know the open house rules still apply, we’ve got some stars ready to come back from injury and have called up some talent from developmental too so signing new talent isn’t high on the priority list right now.”

On the 2008 Royal Rumble – “It won’t be any different to any other year to be honest. It’s a concept that has served well for many a year and there is no need to change it. We always look to improve our product on a daily basis, but the whole Royal Rumble concept is based around the Road to Wrestlemania and the 30 man match which has worked greatly for us. We may see some more high profile matches on the card, but don’t expect to see anything out of the ordinary. But of course going back to Madison Square Garden is a great occasion in itself, so obviously we can’t wait for what will be a great show I’m sure.”

On Wrestlemania 24 – “It is going to be an incredible night without any question. To answer your question about the card, we have worked on it and have six big matches pencilled in plus the Money in the Bank ladder match as well as two other significant matches. This years or should I say next years Wrestlemania will be something that we will be taking very seriously, more so than in previous years as we want to get back the feel of 15 years ago when the event really meant something, so a lot of work will be going into getting it just right.”

On the possibility of Chris Jericho returning – “The rumour mill and the internet community is one thing we will never be able to get rid of. This is something that has been going on for a long time and I think a lot of people expected Chris to be behind the cryptic messages that were appearing, but that was never the case as you found out on Friday night. Chris is someone we value highly and he has a lot to offer our product, but whether or not he does return is something you’ll have to wait and see.”

Nige, it's a nice addition to your thread for interviews like this but this was completely unrealistic. WrestleMania is always an event WWE takes seriously and it always means something. Stephanie would never hurt the credibility of previous WrestleMania's in that way!

BREAKING NEWS

Following the assault at the hands of Kevin Thorn Friday night on Smackdown, we have learnt that Kane has suffered some ligament damage in his right leg. It is expected that the monster will be out of action for around two months following an operation to repair the ligaments.

We have also discovered that Shane McMahon has announced another match for the Survivor Series after Smackdown went off the air. Chris Masters went to the acting GM and Shane made a traditional elimination match with Masters joining forces with The World’s Greatest Tag Team to take on Paul Burchill, Drew McIntyre & Dave Taylor.

Hey i've been meaning to give your show a review for a while now so here we go.

opening promo- a good opener here, all the men were perfectly in character, epecially Edge asking for batista to be stripped off the title and saying what Vince would do. Looking forward to finding out the GM and the Edge/Umaga match should be interesting especially with Batista as ref- goof work.

Jimmy Wang Yang vs Chavo- obvious choice for an opener- good way to get the show underway, typical win for Chavo with the roll up

Edge/Armando- Great little promo here, in character again. Very tense and more problems for Edge, i liked Edge tryin to divert attention to Bastista.

Jeter/Dykstra- Good promo here again, I liked the tension between Noble (Dykstra irritates me lol)Its cool to see Johnny Jeter back i always thought that they ruined the spirit squad there should have been more fueding between their members. Any way, im sure one of these men will win the strap leading to a good fued.

6 man tag match- good match, glad your giving burchill a chance as he is disgracefully under used by WWE, im a big drew mcintyre fan but only because i saw him wrestle in a shitty little gym hall with an indie fed in Scotland years back and he looked awesome, glad he's made it. Back to the show-

MVP/Hardy- typical MVP to begin with, then out comes Hardy, im glad they have a match tonight- should be great. No idea who the captain will be.

WGTT/Masters- cool to see alot of in fighting, i saw that some people didnt like the teaming of masters with WGTT, but i like it i think he kinda fits. Should be cool to see what his idea is.

Thorn/Kane- The match itself was a well written "bigman" match, It was also some clever booking- makes Thorn look strong by destroying someone like Kane, I see your going to repackage Kane, I look forwards to this, hopefully he'll come back mental again.

MVP/Finlay/Orton- Some good and bad points here. Didnt like Finlay saying it would be an honour, i just dont think he'd say that- not to Orton certainly. However MVP was good here, trying to sorta kiss up to Finlay, and finlay saying havent you heard the rumours was funny, i was imagining MVP starting to get pissed off with them.

Main Event- Great match with all the usual slow counting from Batista etc, i didnt expect a win here i thought it would be a no contest but a good win for Umaga, I liked Umaga beating down Batista at the end and it gives him a much needed boost- though obviously he's not going to win ( i hope )

Harry Smith should be good

HArdy/MVP- I didnt expect a win here for either man, as i didnt see the title changing on SD right after a PPV. It extends the fued well though. Match was going well up until it ended. Cool to see HBK on smackdown, cant wait to see how he does. Just one thing i dont think a save_us promo really suited Shawn. Unless your kinda going for a more retro shawn michaels from the 90s. In which case its all good

overall a very good show, nearly all characters are brilliant, matches are fine and some nice storylines, good work.
