>The Viper Is Back!<

Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse for the WWE Champion, Triple H was on the end of yet another shock last night when Randy Orton made his return to Raw to RKO The Game.

The Viper was put on the shelf by Triple H at Survivor Series in the triple threat match for the WWE title that saw The Game become the WWE Champion, beating Batista after breaking Orton's ribs with a sledgehammer. Last night though after Triple H got him & Chris Jericho disqualified by using a sledgehammer on The Big Show, and then Jericho, it looked as if he was about to make the referee his third victim. That was until Orton made his unexpected return, walking down to the ring with purpose, taking the WWE Champion completely by surprise. Unlike Survivor Series, Orton ducked the sledgehammer and connected with an RKO to floor The King of Kings. Despite being incredibly unpopular with the WWE fans last year, they were very vocal in their approval of the RKO on Triple H.

Now that The Viper is back, will he be part of the Royal Rumble, and have The Game's incredibly slam chances of retaining his title in the Royal Rumble match gone completely?

>The Boy Wonder Returns<

Another superstar who returned to Raw last night was Ted DiBiase after his four week suspension came to an end, and he had quite the eventful night.

He seemed very bitter that he missed out on the Slammy award for the 2008 Breakthrough Star of the Year that went to the King of the Ring & United States Champion, Matt Sydal. Clearly his accomplishments of being Million Dollar & Intercontinental Champion didn't compare, but he's returned with a plan to see him be the Superstar of the Year at the end of 2009. His plan is simple, to win the Royal Rumble and become the WWE Champion, then going onto to hold it all the way into 2010.

There was one slight problem with his plan, Eric Bischoff wasn't about to gift him a place in the Rumble match that will see Triple H defend his title as the number one entrant. Ted was forced into taking on the man he refused to before his suspension for failing to turn up & refusing to compete. He was told by Bischoff that if he could defeat The Undertaker he would earn himself a place in the Rumble, and he did, thanks to the man who took the Intercontinental title from him, Sheamus. The Celtic Warrior gained some revenge on The Undertaker for last week, distracting him to get him counted out and winning DiBiase the spot in the Rumble he so craved.

Now Ted's in the Rumble can he go onto dominate 2009 as the WWE Champion?

RAW Review

- Great to see Ted's return to kick off the first show of the year. I like Bischoff acknowledging that Ted has to earn his place in the rumble as well as Ted's cockiness at facing his old rival Undertaker.

- Miz/Ryder's attack was good as was the tag match with Omega. I like that Miz and Ryder got the win but Team Omega still keeps their heat.

- Zeke/Kofi was fine, but I am LOVING the Lethal/Kofi storyline. Lethal's promos are great and I can't wait to see their match at Rumble. Lethal's motivation is relatable however Kofi not wanting to hurt is brother is admirable.

- Decent segment with Cody/Henning and Bischoff, got the point across. I like the stipulation for the tag match later.

- I really enjoyed the interview with Melina. I like the bit of humor on Melina's part and the her noble nature in saving her friend. Kong's attack was also nice as was Kelly and Gail's save.

- I love Trips having to defend the title in the Rumble and the tension that him and Jericho had, very nice segment.

- Liked the tag match a lot. Great high flying action vs. power concept. I was a bit surprised at the result but not disappointed. The Colons teasing Cody/Henning was also a nice touch.

- More tension, this time between Shawn and Show. The Rumble is really taking an effect on these guys.

- MON between Taker and Ted. I really liked Ted's work on Taker's ankle, especially the Chokeslam spot. Sheamus vs. Undertaker? I'm ready to see these guys clash in the Rumble too.

- WOW! What an ending. I loved the tension, I loved Show's size advantage, I love HHH using the Sledgehammer not just on Show but on Y2J as well, most of all I loved Orton's return. HBK staring down Orton was also awesome, as it showed that it's not necessarily HHH vs. The World, everyone vs. everyone else.

Overall, great show and I'm hyped for the Rumble. Between the Rumble and Punk/Cena this looks to be one of your best, which is obviously saying something.

RAW Review

Definitely loved that Ted DiBiase made his return from suspension and that he had to face his old rival The Undertaker in order to earn his place in the Royal Rumble, and Ted being so cocky and arrogant about it, he reminds me so much of his father The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase Sr. but also he reminds me of a young, cocky arrogant Randy Orton when Orton was a part of Evolution

Miz & Ryder's attack, loved every second of it and also their match too with Team Omega and Miz & Ryder getting the win, they have potential as a tag team but also could have potential as singles stars in the future

Ezekiel Jackson vs Kofi Kingston was a great match but definitely loving the family feud between Jay Lethal and Kofi Kingston, interesting that you would make them brothers, so who is the older brother and who is the little brother in this storyline? Either way I want to see these 2 brothers go at it and at the Royal Rumble too makes it all the more exciting

Cody Rhodes & Joe Hennig their segment with Bischoff, definitely loved it, but I want to see them form a New Legacy stable with Rhodes as the leader, Joe Hennig as the 2nd member of this group, and you can have 2 more new guys come into this group, that being Husky Harris as the 3rd member being the enforcer/muscle of the group being Husky is a 3rd generation superstar since he is the son of IRS and the grandson of Blackjack Mulligan and his uncle is Barry Windham so he comes from a great wrestling lineage and the 4th member of the New Legacy can be Reid Flair 2nd generation superstar the son of the Nature Boy Ric Flair (New Legacy= Rhodes, Hennig, Harris and Flair)

Melina's segment, that I could care less about but I loved Kong making her presence felt only for Kelly and Gail to make the save

Triple H having to defend his WWE Championship in the Royal Rumble match, that is great, the first time this is happening since 1992 where the WWE Title will be defended in the Royal Rumble match but Triple H having to defend his title as the #1 entrant, I love it because so many men are going to be gunning for Triple H in the match as he is going to be the marked man coming in

The tag match I liked that too but I definitely loved the Colons teasing Cody and Joe too

Tension amongst HBK and Big Show because both men want to win the Royal Rumble and both men want to win the WWE Title by winning the Rumble

Awesome match between DiBiase and Taker, and then Sheamus making his presence felt by attacking Taker, hopefully you are setting up towards Sheamus vs Taker at WrestleMania 25, because Sheamus he would make a great Streak opponent for Taker

Triple H attacking his own partner Jericho just goes to show you how desperate Triple H really is especially if he could attack Jericho with the sledgehammer and then using it on Big Show and then my man Randy Orton making his shocking return laying out HHH with an RKO and then Orton staring down HBK to end the show, loved it!!!!!!

Watch at the Royal Rumble, it will be HHH vs. 29 other guys, because the 29 other men are going to be gunning for him the whole match trying to eliminate him

That is why I can't wait until your Royal Rumble pay per view because of the actual Royal Rumble match because it is going to be so star-studded and not to mention the WWE Championship is also on the line in that match, and then you have Cena/Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship in a One Fall to a Finish, this is going to be one great PPV, that's for sure

And hopefully in this Royal Rumble match we get to see some real surprise entrants like Kevin Nash, Vader, Batista even as a real shocker, or even Brock Lesnar or even Goldberg or Christian making a shocking return to WWE or even Sycho Sid or Road Dogg or even The Rock

Kofi is the older brother.

Christian's been back on Smackdown since Judgment Day BTB time, about 3 and a bit years real time.

As for the Rumble entrants, I've been looking at who to use as surprise names or possible returns. Batista certainly won't as he only retired last month and won't be coming back. I wouldn't bring Lesnar back in the Rumble as he'd probably have to win it and I don't see it as a good way to bring him back. As it stands I don't have any intention of bringing Lesnar into the thread, but that could change. The Rock again as a Rumble entrant wouldn't be right either.

I've not posted in this thread often, or before if I recall but, I do read it. The level you are capable of writing is top notch and some of the ideas you have in this thread are brilliant, I'm quite into the WWE Championship being defended in the Royal Rumble match, it's different and will most certainly be an entertaining read. The fact that you've kept this BTB going for such a long period of time and the consistency of it too speaks for itself. Just thought I'd leave my 2 cents. I'll continue to read as long as you post.

Friday Night 'Live' Smackdown
Friday 9th January 2009 - Preview!
Live from the Gwinnett Center
Duluth, Georgia

2009 started with high drama last week with the blame falling at the door of the Executive Vice-President, Stephanie McMahon. She's received nothing but criticism from CM Punk, however last week John Cena joined in telling her that she's acted inappropriately on more than one occasion. Stephanie didn't react favourably to their concerns, and having heard & had enough of her, Punk stunned everyone by walking out on Smackdown, vowing he won't return until the Royal Rumble in just over a week when he & Cena meet for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship. That was just moments after he inadvertently hit Tazz with a roundhouse kick that was meant for Cena. It was serious enough that Tazz was told to rest up, prompting Stephanie to take charge for the rest of the night, not that Tazz had a choice in the matter.

One of the decisions she did make though has resulted in a huge tag team title match this Friday night that will see The Empire defend their titles for the first time since defeating Paul Burchill and Harry Smith's stand-in, TJ Wilson at Night of Champions last month. Wade Barrett & Drew McIntyre were defeated by London & Kendrick two weeks ago in a non-title match, but last week Burchill & Wilson were after a rematch. Stephanie then made her presence felt by stating that there was another team who worthy of a rematch, reminding everyone that the rematch clause applies to Burchill & Smith, not Burchill & Wilson. She was happy enough to give them the chance to get a shot at a rematch if they could defeat the team that beat the champions the week before, London & Kendrick.

Those two teams met with the champions watching on from ringside, and a distraction from The Empire gave London & Kendrick the chance to take advantage and claim the title shot this week. Smith, Burchill, TJ & Natalya Nedihart were furious at The Empire once again getting the upper hand on them, but they'll have to take a back seat for a week at least when London & Kendrick look to continue their impressive resurgence by becoming WWE Tag Team Champions once again. Can they do just that by defeating the team they beat only two weeks ago? It certainly won't be an easy task for the champions in their first defence and it's a match you have to see.

Someone else who's on quite the roll is Bryan Danielson, and he'll look to keep that roll going this week when he meets the only man who's been able to beat him, 'The Rated-R Superstar' Edge. They were two of the men battling it out for the right to face CM Punk at Night of Champions for the world title, and it was only seconds after Danielson eliminated Dolph Ziggler in the fatal four-way match that Edge caught him off guard with a spear to eliminate Danielson. That's the only blip on his record to date and Danielson will be looking to keep it that way when he locks horns with Edge this week, but it will be a difficult prospect against the ultimate opportunist in Edge. It's going to be an exciting match that Edge better not take for granted.

After Smackdown went off the air last week we learnt that Stephanie had arranged for Matt Sydal to defend his United States title at the Royal Rumble against the man who's beaten him twice recently in non-title matches. Dolph Ziggler has vowed to get a third match, only with the title on the line, and now he has his wish. Sydal will have a challenge on his hands when he meets Ziggler, but he will also be in action this week when he takes on Chavo Guerrero. The 2008 King of the Ring & Breakout Star of the Year has shown how resilient he is and Ziggler can't think for a second he has the title in the bag. He would be wise to watch Sydal against the dangerous Mexican live this week, as would you.

For all this & more make sure you tune into Smackdown this week, live from the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia.

>Confirmed for this week on Smackdown!<

WWE Tag Team Championship
Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. The Empire (c)

Non-Title Match
Matt Sydal vs. Chavo Guerrero

Plus
Bryan Danielson vs. Edge

Royal Rumble Predictions

As for the Royal Rumble Match for the WWE Championship, 30 men, only one man can be victorious and Triple H's WWE Championship is also on the line in that match, my pick to win the Rumble is my main man Randy Orton The Viper because there is just no way Triple H will be able to retain the WWE Championship inside a Royal Rumble Match and especially a Royal Rumble Match where he is the #1 entrant even though Triple H has won a Rumble before back in 2002, but still if Triple H is going to win the thing, he is going to have to outlast 29 other superstars to retain his WWE Championship which means lasting a whole hour in that match. But in the Royal Rumble Match I think there could be surprise entrants like Chris Jericho making his return to WWE, Jeff Hardy making a surprise return to win it all or even Christian making his return since he was injured at Survivor Series. But as for other superstars who I think could win it, there's The Great White Sheamus, Ted DiBiase the Boy Wonder, or how about The Rated R Superstar Edge or the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels

For the vacant World Heavyweight Championship, John Cena taking on CM Punk, I am going with CM Punk to beat John Cena to once again become the World Heavyweight Champion

Kofi Kingston vs Jay Lethal, Brother vs Brother, this family feud being about pride and also about just which brother is better than the other one and that there is just so much animosity between them, as for who wins, I see it being the little brother Jay Lethal going over his older brother Kofi

For the WWE United States Championship, Matt Sydal aka Evan Bourne (c) defending his championship against Dolph Ziggler, I see Sydal retaining his WWE United States Championship

I won't pick until all the RAWs and Smackdowns are over with. There could be more of a build towards a certain person winning and I want to see how it plays out before I take my pick.
