Re: Presenting: Paul Heyman's Evolution Pro Wrestling.
Well. Here we are. This return has been a long time coming to be honest, but I'm back to give this a second (third) crack. Not going to give a grand speech as to why I'm back blah blah blah. I will say that I've recapped a few months because I lost a shitload of work for this thread and I had no desire to write it all again, so I just VERY briefly recapped it. I'll be posting all PPV results as well as some extra info. This is a big post, but it's got some important info.
Here we go -
Redemption – 24th June
CM Punk def. Muhammad Hassan for the Pacific Championship
In a match fuelled by a heated rivalry, Hassan got the better of Punk for the most part of the match and almost finished it with several close calls but Punk managed to make a comeback and it was subsequently a wayward steel chair-shot from Daivari, striking Hassan that allowed Punk to pick up the victory.
LAX def. The Dudleyz, TWGTT & Juventud Guerrera/ Psicosis in a Last Team Standing Match to retain the Tag Team Championships.
Thirty four minutes of high pace, tag team action. A real focus was put on to this match. Homicide overcame the odds to pick up the win for LAX after his partner Hernandez was the second eliminated, very early on. ‘Cide single handedly took out The Dudley Boyz simultaneously after they eliminated Hernandez, he also captured the scalp of Charlie Haas. Shelton Benjamin, Juventud Guerrera and of course, Homicide were the last three. Juvi got rid of Shelton courtesy of a quick roll up but Guerrera and ‘Cide faced off for nearly 10 minutes until The Notorious One picked up the victory courtesy of The Gringo Killa!
Rhino def. Samoa Joe in Extreme Rules
In a brutal match, blood was shed by both competitors in what was clearly a personal encounter. The finish came Paul Heyman blasted Samoa Joe with a steel chair after he’d just taken down Rhino with a Samoan Drop. The Chair Shot didn’t knock the Man Beast off his feet however, as he stumbled backwards and into a huge GORE from Rhino. After the match, Paul Heyman announced Rhino as the Number One Contender to the EPW Championship at the next Pay Per View!
Austin Aries def. Bryan Danielson, Jamie Noble, Kid Kash, Billy Kidman, Sonjay Dutt, Shannon Moore, Daivari, Petey Williams (Surprise Entrant) & AJ Styles (Surprise Entrant) to win the Cruiserweight Championship.
Aries and Danielson were the first and the last two in the match. This one lasted nearly 30 minutes as well and was contested at a frenetic pace. Jamie Noble wreaked havoc early on getting multiple eliminations but unfortunately for him the unlike duo of Aries and Danielson eliminated him. Petey Williams was the first out our two surprise entrants and made quite an impact until he was eliminated by the second surprise entrant, AJ Styles courtesy of the Styles Clash. The final three were Styles, Aries and Danielson, who managed to eliminate Styles with a quick roll up. Aries got the final fall after a Brainbuster followed by a 450 Splash!
Christian Cage def. Chris Jericho via DQ
In another personal affair, Cage and Jericho put on quite a contest with Jericho trying numerous times to force Christian to tap out but Captain Charisma wouldn’t give in. Eventually Jericho’s frustrations got the better of him and he refused to relinquish the Walls of Jericho when Cage had the ropes, forcing the referee to call an end to the match.
Brock Lesnar def. Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle made his debut in his home town of Pittsburgh on EPW’s first tour outside the Hammerstein Ballroom after Brock Lesnar he’d had a bitch about every town they’d visited too, saying that there was no one in EPW or any of the cities they were visiting worth of wrestling him, especially no one from Pittsburgh. Naturally, Angle then made a huge entrance in one of the biggest moments in EPW’s short history. The match was billed as a “One More Time” encounter and was a match of epic proportions, even more so than their previous showdowns. Angle managed to trap Lesnar in the Ankle Lock on three separate occasions but on each time he showed his resilience by refusing to give in. The end came about when Angle missed a Moon Sault (in a knock off to the Wrestlemania match) only for Lesnar to hoist him up on his shoulders looking for the F5 but Angle elbowed his way out of the and went for the Olympic Slam but Lesnar slid down behind Kurt’s back and hoisted him back up and planted him with the F5 to get the victory.
Edge def. Rob Van Dam in a TLC (Tables, Ladders in a Cage) Match for the EPW World Championship
In a brutal match, headlined by a 5 Star Frog Splash from the top of a 14 foot ladder on to Edge, who was laid out across a table – The Rated R Superstar managed to pick up the win. The finish came after Edge nailed the Edgecution to Van Dam from the top of the ladder down on to a ladder laid out in the ring when they were both attempting to reach the belt. Edge then mustered up enough energy to make his way up the ladder and pick up the win. Van Dam was “injured” during the match and wasn’t seen for some time after.
Destiny – 19th August Austin Aries def. Bryan Danielson
Aries and Danielson finally faced off in a match that had been brewing since the second episode of Enslaved. Aries and Danielson put on quite the show in a match that lasted over 20 minutes. Aries needed all his arsenal to put Danielson away. He even nailed the Brainbuster, but couldn’t land the 450 as Dragon rolled out of the way at the last second. The Horns of Aries, The Frogsplash, Scissored Arm Bar, Aries tried them all to no avail. Danielson fought back nailing his Northern Lights Suplex, German after German after German, a Tiger Suplex, a Regal Plex and even the Dragon Suplex. Danielson busted out his full array of Suplex moves and couldn’t finish Aries off with Cattle Mutilation as he made it to the ropes. The finish took a brutal Crucifix Driver from the Top Rope to put Dragon away.
LAX squashed The Dudleyz
Nothing more than a glorified squash match. This contest was on the card purely to get the Tag Champions on Pay Per View and they continued their dominance as Homicide pinned Bubba-Ray after a Gringo Cutter! (RKO, for you WWE folk) This was the first of ‘Cide’s two matches tonight as he managed to earn a place in the Triple Threat Match.
Samoa Joe def. Sabu in a 'Szumi's house of fun' Match
I can hear you all now... “what the fuck is a Szumi’s House of Fun Match?” It was an idea that Szumi and I had come up with ages and ages ago. It was a brutal idea of a match. It consisted of the ropes being wrapped in Light Bulbs and they would explode when someone was whipped into them leaving glass all over the ring and in the competitors backs, thumbtacks scattered everywhere, the turnbuckles wrapped in barbwire. On the outside, there were numerous tables set up so if anyone fell to the outside, they would fall through a table. The only way victory could come in this match was via pinfall. Joe eventually got the pin when he nailed a Muscle Buster through a flaming table, wrapped in barbwire.
Christian Cage def. Chris Jericho
The Cage/Jericho feud continued to gather steam and it seemed as if it would culminate at this Pay Per View but the finish was far from conclusive. After Jericho and Christian beat the crap out of each other for 20 minutes, Y2J tried to do the dodgy to get the win but Cage caught him off guard and rolled him up for a quick win!
Muhammad Hassan def. CM Punk in a Steel Cage Match to retain the Pacific Championship.
In a personal rivalry, CM Punk had dropped the Pacific Title to Hassan only a few weeks before Destiny in a tag match with the stipulation if Punk or his partner got pinned or submitted, he would drop the title. Unfortunately for Punk, his partner, Colt Cabana fell to Hassan’s Camel Clutch. In the weeks leading up to the Pay Per View, Hassan dominated Punk; leaving him a bloody mess multiple times.
In the match itself, Punk had control until Daivari climbed the cage and into the ring and king hit Punk from behind with handcuffs wrapped around his knuckles. Daivari and Hassan then handcuffed Punk to the ring ropes again and bloodied him badly before walking straight out the door, as cockily and arrogantly as he could possibly be to huge heat from the crowd. Punk still remained unpinned but he surely had the hell beaten out of him while Hassan enters the Gauntlet to the Gold.
Homicide def. Shelton Benjamin & AJ Styles in the Final of the Road to the Gauntlet Tournament
In the final match of the tournament to gain entry to the Gauntlet to the Gold. ‘Cide, Shelton and AJ put on quite the spectacle with AJ and Shelton doing the bulk of the ring work early on after Homicide took a bump to the outside. AJ planted Shelton with the Styles Clash but Homicide was quick to take out Styles with a Gringo Cutter and he then promptly picked up Shelton and planted him with the Gringo Killa to put him away and gain entry to the Gauntlet to the Gold!!
Kurt Angle def. Charlie Haas
The match came about after Angle spoke of not having an opponent for Destiny. Haas made an appearance and spoke of the gratitude he has for Angle given the impact he has had on his career but now he wanted to face him one on one and prove he’s not just a tag team wrestler.
Angle accepted the match and the two put on quite a contest with Haas being far from embarrassed. The match lasted just over 12 minutes and Charlie even managed to lock in the Haas of Pain. Charlie eventually submitted to the Ankle Lock after enduring an Olympic Slam!
Edge def. Rhino for the EPW World Championship
Edge took control early on but Rhino’s power soon became too much and he started to dominate. Just when Rhino was about to nail the Gore on Edge, he was struck down by a swift POUNCE from Monty Brown, bringing about the DQ. Brown was looking for revenge after Rhino had eliminated him in the Battle Royal to earn a place in the Gauntlet to the Gold (Brown eliminated Rhino illegally afterward), Rhino then later cost Monty Brown a spot in the tournament to win a place in the Triple Threat match at Destiny.
Kurt Angle def. Homicide, Joe, Christian, Lesnar, Hassan, Aries & The Returning Rob Van Dam to WIN the Gauntlet to the Gold!
Samoa Joe started off against Christian, but the two didn’t spend much time in the ring together as Chris Jericho quickly rushed to the ring and beat the shit out of Cage, meaning Joe was DQed. Joe was irate, but Paul Heyman, who was watching at ringside, was quick to ensure Joe left the arena as did Jericho. Homicide was the next out and made the most of Christian being beaten and still on edge, rolling him up for the pinfall. Austin Aries was the next out, the Cruiserweight Champion put up quite a quite but eventually fell to the Gringo Killa meaning that he had finally been pinned in EPW! The fifth person out was Lesnar and his strength and power was just too much for Homicide, eliminating him with F5! Homicide didn’t just lay down for Lesnar, he managed for nail the Gringo Cutter but unfortunately for ‘Cide, The Next Big Thing powered out of it. Muhammad Hassan was the sixth out and was eliminated after the arena went dark and CM Punk’s music, “Miseria Cantare” hit but there was no sign on Punk himself. Hassan looked frantic until Lesnar planted him with an F5 as well! ROB VAN DAM then made his huge return and actually managed to pin Brock Lesnar after the Five Star Frog Splash! Lesnar was fuming as Kurt Angle made his arrival and the Next Big Thing lurked around at ringside and watched the happenings in the ring. The referee was trying to force Brock to leave the arena but eventually it was his distraction that allowed Kurt to nail the Olympic Slam before forcing Rob to submit to the Ankle Lock.
Blaze of Glory – 28th October
“EPW’s SUPERBOWL”
Shelton Benjamin def. AJ Styles
The match stemmed from Benjamin getting pinned by Homicide in the Triple Threat at Destiny, thus costing AJ a chance at wrestling in the Gauntlet for the Gold. In a fast paced opening encounter the fan favourite Shelton Benjamin and AJ Styles who was getting quite the mixed reception from the fans. AJ pulled out all the straps against Shelton, even nailing the Styles Clash, but Benjamin was able to reach out and grab the ropes. Eventually Shelton took control after a Dragon Whip before putting AJ away with a T-Bone Suplex, leaving a clearly frustrated AJ Styles down and out in the ring.
Rhino def. Monty Brown
Monty Brown had been a thorn in Rhino’s side for weeks. Brown cost Rhino a place in the Gauntlet to the Gold, two title shots – one at Redemption, and another on Enslaved, and then a match against Muhammad Hassan, also on Enslaved. The match was exactly what everyone expected it to be – a slugfest. The War Machine and The Alpha Male beat the crap out of each other for nearly 15 minutes until Rhino nailed Monty with the GORE for the win!
LAX def. Generation Next to retain the EPW Tag Team Championships
Roderick Strong and Alex Shelly emerged as the Number 1 Contenders to the Tag Titles after they won a Number 1 Contenders Match against The Dudley Boyz. The match itself was another lightning quick encounter with Strong and Shelly having the upper hand for the most part and looked like getting the win until Konnan nailed Shelly with the slapjack when Hernandez distracted the referee allowed Homicide to nail the Gringo Killa for the win.
Bryan Danielson def. Austin Aries to WIN the Cruiserweight Championship in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match
In a match that sensationally lasted 38 minutes (I had written this match before I lost everything... not cool) – Aries and Danielson stole the show. The two fierce rivals traded blows back and forth for 20 minutes until Austin Aries got the first pinfall after he nailed the 450. The second fall came when Danielson forced Aries to submit via Cattle Mutilation. As soon as he got the fall, Danielson released the hold and begun to stalk Aries who he quickly rolled up within seconds of him getting to his feet to get the third fall with a handful of tights!
Samoa Joe def. Mick Foley – No Holds Barred
In a match that came about after Joe was running his mouth off to Heyman, saying he’d beaten everyone he’d thrown at him and now he wants his Title shot. Heyman said Joe still had to prove himself. He said he’s proven that he’s a psychopath in the manor of which he defeated Sabu at Destiny but they still doesn’t grant him a title shot. He told him he’d have his biggest challenge yet at Blaze of Glory... a No Holds Barred match against The Hardcore Legend, Mick Foley!
In what was a brutal match, Joe got the win after he put Foley through a Flaming Table which Mick himself had earlier set alight. The Hardcore Legend tried to Powerbomb Joe through the table but it backfired as Joe pushed him away, sent him flying off the ropes and sent him flying off the ropes and through the flaming table courtesy of a Samoan drop!
CM Punk def. Muhammad Hassan to WIN the Pacific Championship – First Blood
In the most personal match coming into the PPV, CM Punk made it clear that this match was about much more than the Pacific Title. He said he wanted to make Hassan feel the same pain and suffering as he has made him feel in the past two months. Punk told Hassan in a pre-match promo on the night that he does intend to make him bleed, but he’s not going to use any weapons, he said he was going to do it using his bare hands.
The finish came when Hassan’s head went crashing into an exposed turnbuckle and he turned back into a GTS from Punk, busting him open with his knee after Punk had beaten the living shit out of him with some stiff kicks, elbows and forearms.
Chris Jericho def. Christian Cage – Submission Only
In another heated rivalry that had stemmed almost since the beginning of EPW as well, Cage and Jericho put on a technical clinic. Jericho tried several times to lock in the Walls of Jericho early on in the match, but each time, Christian managed to slide out of them. Christian focused his attention on Jericho’s right leg, picking away at it at any given opportunity although it wasn’t until we were 12 minutes into the match that Cage tried to hook the Texas Cloverleaf – which he did successfully but Y2J made it to the ropes.
The finish came after Jericho repeated slammed Christian’s right knee into the unforgiving steel turnbuckle. Upon re-entering the ring, Jericho stomped away at Christian’s leg some more before standing him back up to his feet and booting his legs out from underneath him, sending him crashing down to the canvas. Refusing to let Cage regather himself, Y2J crashed his knee down on top of Christian’s inflicting even more injury before he locked in the Walls of Jericho once again! Christian battled and battled to the ropes and just when it looked like Captain Charisma had made it to the ropes – Jericho managed to drag him back to the centre of the ring and after a 30 more seconds of being locked in the hold, Christian reluctantly tapped out.
RVD def. Brock Lesnar
This match stemmed from Lesnar’s jealousy of RVD, which started with Van Dam pinning Lesnar in the Gauntlet to the Gold. For weeks following that night, Lesnar made RVD’s life a living hell, reducing him to a bloody mess on two separate occasions.
During the match itself, Lesnar totally dominated Van Dam. He powerbombed him into a turnbuckle, hit an F5 but bounced him off the ropes and made him bounce off and down to the outside. When it looked like The Whole Fuckin’ Show had an opening and went to the top rope looking for the Five Star Frog Splash! Lesnar however shot up to his feet and sprung to the top rope and sent him flying more than half way across the ring with an Overhead Belly to Belly Suplex!!! Eventually Lesnar set RVD up for another F5 but he managed to slide off Brock’s back before he attempted to kick Van Dam in the gut but Rob caught it and nailed a Windmill Kick! He then acted quickly and headed to the top of the turnbuckle and nailed the Five Star Frog Splash for the win!
Edge def. Kurt Angle
Kurt’s victory in the Gauntlet to the Gold ensured his spot in the World Title match at Blaze of Glory. The two traded blows for weeks with Kurt getting a decisive pinfall of Edge in a tag match on the last Enslaved before the PPV.
The match itself was what every expected – a thriller. Kurt took the referee out with a mis-directed clothesline that was destined for Edge but he hit the official instead! Only moments later, a trying numerous times in the match already, Kurt finally managed to lock in the Ankle Lock, forcing Edge to tap out but there was no referee to call for the bell! Angle angrily released the Ankle Lock and went about reviving the referee. After a few moments, Kurt got him back on his feet but unfortunately for The Olympic Gold Medalist, he turned into a Spear from Edge – bringing the three count for the win!
Refresher information - Paul Heyman is on-screen boss. Rob Van Dam, Bubba Dudley, Ted DiBiase, Joey Styles and Heyman all have stakes in the control of the company behind the scenes.
- The Bryan Danielson and Austin Aries feud has been going on for months and is still without a conclusive ending, however Jamie Noble and others such as Petey Williams and Kid Kash have declared an interest in pursuing the Cruiserweight Championship too. Noble has been shooting his mouth off at any given opportunity at Austin Aries and the rest of Generation Next, Kid Kash has made it no secret in the fact that he thinks he’s the hottest thing in EPW while Petey Williams has been on a roll since his arrival in EPW and surely by now has earned his chance.
- The Samoa Joe v Paul Heyman storyline continues. This stems from Joe demanding a title shot months ago. Heyman didn’t and still doesn’t believe he deserves it. Eventually Heyman made the announcement that until further notice, every one of Joe’s matches would be contested under a form of stipulation. Yes, Joe is the heel in this feud and Heyman is a face although sometimes it does and will seem the other way around but that’s intentional.
- CM Punk, despite losing the Pacific Title in the Cage match (and later regaining it), is still undefeated. He has never been pinned in EPW.
- Muhammad Hassan’s gimmick is a little different in EPW. He isn’t all 100% Anti-America. His character (those who used to be regular readers will know this) is a little bit different.
- Jamie Noble has also had a gimmick change. Please refer to his promo at the Out of Exile PPV for a refresher as to the direction of his character. He’s basically doing a little angry psycho man sort of gimmick. Although he is legit.
- “Enslaved” is a 60 minute television show televised on the CW Network on Wednesday nights.
- “Online Oblivion” is a 30 minute web based internet show aired on Sunday nights, much like Heat or Velocity. It is essentially used to give more exposure to the Cruiserweights and give them more match time. Each episode has two matches on it.
OOC - That's that. Will be back with another update in a few days. Next 5 shows are ready to go. Most of them will be recapped due to time restraints, but they do the job.
Re: Presenting: Paul Heyman's Evolution Pro Wrestling.
Another small update, VERY basic backstage segment. A filler really.
Return show will be up soon which is a fallout from the Blaze of Glory PPV.
Management Meeting
Backstage after Blaze of Glory
28th October 2008
Paul Heyman, Ted DiBiase, Rob Van Dam, Bubba Dudley & Joey Styles all sit around a round table, Van Dam with a bottle of water in front of him, obviously still fucked after his match with Brock Lesnar earlier in the evening.
Heyman: Gentlemen... a success?
Styles: Most definitely. Almost Nine months into our existence, we’ve had four HUGE PPV’s, we’ve got some of the biggest stars in the business and we’re proving to the world that wrestler’s don’t all need to be 6 ft 6 and 300 pounds.
Heyman: I meant the show, Joey.
DiBiase: Of course it was a success, Paul. The two out of three falls match will be talked about for years to come. Danielson and Austin stole the show. Angle/Edge, Rob and Brock, Punk/Hassan, Joe/Foley... all massive matches, with great build ups and very well executed.
Heyman: Are we satisfied with the culmination of the Jericho/Christian feud?
Styles: I believe it did the feud justice, although I still don’t agree with Jericho going over. If we have plans to have Edge as our long time heel champion, then Jay should’ve gone over so we could have had him challenge Copeland for the title soon.
Heyman: Whilst I agree with that to an extent, I think our plans to have a multi-man title match at the next PPV is the best route to follow. A victory for Edge will most definitely establish him. You’re both quiet... Rob, Marc?
Bubba: Just taking it in, bro’.
Heyman: Do you have any thoughts as to the Main Event situation for the next PPV?
Bubba: No, we’ve firmly established that we’ve got a strong Main Event scene. We now need to build our Mid Card, because it’s a bit weak.
Styles: WHAT?! Samoa Joe, Muhammad Hassan, Shelton Benjamin, Austin Aries, Bryan Danielson, AJ Styles, CM freakin’ Punk! We’ve got the strongest mid-card in professional wrestling!!!
Bubba: All I’m saying is that I think we should add some more faces to the mid-card scene and maybe even add a couple more tag teams. Speaking of which, I think it’s about time we agreed on a Tag Title run for Devon and I. LAX have had a good run.
Heyman: I know we agreed on this months ago, and I still guarantee that it will happen but not right now. Homicide is on a roll, we need to capitalise on his momentum. It is most definitely in our best interests to keep the belts on LAX at the moment. If it means any otherwise, we just won’t feed you and Devon to them anymore.
Bubba was clearly displeased with this response while Styles smirks as Van Dam finally pipes up.
Rob: Straying a little, can someone tell me what’s next for Joe? You can’t drag this thing on with him and the title for ever. People are going to get so annoyed by this that eventually they’ll all be sayin’ “just give him the fuckin’ title”
Heyman: It is important that we do not rush Joe to the title. We’ve decided to put a lot of time and effort in his build towards the title and we really shouldn’t stop here. I have a few more names lined up for him and then we’ll go from there.
DiBiase & Styles: Who then?
Heyman: I’m in talks with ____________ and Tommy, he’s keen to get out of the ‘E. I know Tommy’s not a big draw but a match between Joe and __________ with a sadistic stipulation will put asses on seats.
Styles: Not wrong.
Rob: I think I should be involved with a program with Joe at some stage. Perhaps the last test before we give him the title?
DiBiase: I was thinking that it might be good for Joe to win the title off you?
Rob: But that would actually require me to win the title, which is not something I have the desire to do as yet.
Heyman: That’s a shame really. I think we should capitalise on this feud with Lesnar, we could do so much more with it if we somehow incorporated the Title into it, but...
Rob: Not gonna happen. I came here with the intent to put people over and bring a little star power, I don’t need the EPW Title to inflate my ego, dude.
Heyman: Even if it’s good business?
Bubba: Just fucking leave it, Paulie. He doesn’t want a title run, so don’t force it down his throat.
Heyman looked stunned at Dudley when Di Biase piped up.
DiBiase: Gentlemen, let’s not ruin a good evening. Moving on, Paul, our Television contract is set to expire shortly, are we going to explore other options or wait and see what CW offer?
Styles: We should wait and see what happens with the next PPV, then we can make our play for our next TV deal.
Heyman: That’s probably the best idea. If that PPV draws well then we’ll have more ammunition for more money. We need to put on a big Main Event for that night, and I’ve got the perfect idea that’ll be sure to draw...
Re: Presenting: Paul Heyman's Evolution Pro Wrestling.
Hey Baby. Looks hot.
I knew you wanted to make a return to this one day, a shame you were gone for so long. You know I admired you from our many, many chats, along with that jobber, Reney.
Re: Presenting: Paul Heyman's Evolution Pro Wrestling.
This is all good stuff Para. I remember this back when it was alive and strong and I enjoyed it immensely, and I'm hoping my feelings won't change now that you're getting back into the whole swing of things.
Re: Presenting: Paul Heyman's Evolution Pro Wrestling.
EPW coming back is absolutely awesome, as it has always been one of my favorite threads in this section. The results you posted were quality stuff, and it really sucks that you lost the entire Aries/Danielson match as reading it seemed like a excellent match. Anyways, I'll try my best to keep up with this BTB and leave feedback, and hopefully this thread can pick up even more steam.
Re: Presenting: Paul Heyman's Evolution Pro Wrestling.
Just read the backstage segment with the owners and looked over at the recap results. Everything looks well, and it should be interesting to see how this thread continues. However I have a feeling that somehow Van Dam will be involved in the title program or at least something with Joe. Should be an interesting feud to say the least, and I wonder how long you plan to have Edge as World Champ?
