Booker T © vs. Diamond Dallas Page vs. Scott Steiner- WCW World Heavyweight Championship
The return to PPV for WCW is going to be headlined with one mega main event! The current four-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion will face not one, but two, opponents in the squared circle at Slamboree, and both are former WCW World Champions! Diamond Dallas Page is a long-time veteran of the sport, and has been a franchise player for WCW for years now. During that time, DDP has racked up an impressive three World Heavyweight Title reigns, proving that he is the real deal here in WCW. Diamond Dallas Page almost became a four-time WCW World Champion back on May 7, 2001, when he almost defeated Booker T to win the Title on Nitro. However, his other opponent, Scott Steiner, got involved in the match, resulting in the match being thrown out. Steiner may only have one World Title reign to his name, but he is indeed a legitimate bad ass who could easily walk out of Slamboree the WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
These three men have all had their problems with another throughout WCW, but the real mayhem started back on the “Night of Champions” Monday Nitro back on March 26, when Booker T defeated Scott Steiner to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. WCW went on hiatus soon after that, but then returned with the May 7 edition of Nitro where DDP and Booker T fought for the title. Steiner got involved, still furious about losing the title to T, and assaulted both men. From there, problems between Booker T and Scott Steiner have increased, same with Scott Steiner and Diamond Dallas Page. Booker T and DDP worked together throughout the past three weeks after fighting for the title, but have had tension along the way, and finally came to blows at the last Nitro. Now, these three men will meet in the squared circle at Slamboree for the most prestigious title in the world today! Only one man can walk out of Slamboree the champion, but who will it be!?
Hugh Morris vs. Lance Storm- United States Title Tournament Finals
One man fights for the United States Title. Another fights for the Canadian National Championship. However, both fight because of their nationalism in their respective native country. Lance Storm and Hugh Morris have been bitter enemies for a long time now, dating back to when Hugh Morris was known as the camo-wearing “General Rection”, locked in a bitter feud with Storm in a USA vs. Canada type feud. Well now it seems that these USA vs. Canada feud is being re-ignited as these two men will face off at Slamboree in the finals of the United States Title Tournament!
The United States Title was vacated by Booker T on the May 7 edition of Monday Nitro, and President of WCW Eric Bischoff announced an 8-Man tournament to crown a new champion. Lance Storm defeated Disco Inferno that same night in a match that would have advanced him to the semi-finals. However, due to Rick Steiner and Jim Duggan getting counted out in their match-up earlier, Lance Storm got a straight bye to the finals. Hugh Morris, however, did not have such an easy task. The former two-time US Champion had to defeat tough all-a rounder Chris Kanyon in the quarter finals. Morris was tested, but he came out the victor. The next week, Morris had an even tougher challenge in The Wall. After receiving quite a beating, Morris fought back, and beat The Wall to earn himself a match at Slamboree against his former arch-rival, and three-time United States Champion, Lance Storm. Despite being in the finals for the US Title, Storm has refused to fight for the United States Championship, declaring that he would fight for the Canadian National championship instead. No matter what title each man fights for at Slamboree, this promises to be an exciting match-up that you won’t want to miss!
Shane Helms © vs. Evan Karagias vs. Shannon Moore- WCW Cruiserweight Championship
Evan Karagias, Shane Helms, and Shannon Moore all have a history together to say the least. Just a mere year ago, these three men were in the “world famous” band known as 3 Count. The men wrestled in the ring, and sang in it too! However, all great bands have their falling outs, even 3 Count. The three men “broke up”, and have since gone their separate ways. However, only Shane Helms has had real success, winning the WCW Cruiserweight Championship from Chavo Guerrero Jr. back in March. However, since WCW Nitro has debuted on the USA Network, 3 Count have been getting back together in the ring once again. Except this time, it wasn’t to sing or wrestle as a team, it was to wrestle each other! Shane Helms defeated Shannon Moore on May 7, only for Shannon Moore to defeat Evan Karagias the next week. But then, Evan Karagias pulled off a surprise victory of Shane Helms on May 21! After that victory, both men were jumped by Shannon Moore, and after a three-way scuffle, they were separated by security. Over the past three weeks on Nitro, it hasn’t been proven who the better man is from 3 Count, so at Slamboree, the millions of 3 Count fans will have some clarity when they find out just who the best was. Only one man from 3 Count can walk away with the Cruiserweight Title at Slamboree, so order the PPV to find out!
Chuck Palumbo & Sean O’Haire © vs. KroniK- WCW Tag Team Championship
Meet Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire, two men who are young and cocky, but extremely talented. They are outgoing, and can be prima donna’s at times. Now meet KroniK, two huge bad asses who loathe the type of people Palumbo and O’Haire are. Brian Adams and Bryan Clarke are two rough, tough, mean men who will kick your butt on any day of the week! Ever since coming together as a team, KroniK has mad good success, winning the WCW Tag Team Championship twice. KroniK was silent in the early stages of 2001, however, but this past month have made their mark known, defeating their opponents with ease. O’Haire and Palumbo have done well as well this past month, defeating their opponents with ease as well. Both teams appear to be getting into a hot streak, so Eric Bischoff has made the decision to have both teams collide head-on this Sunday at Slamboree for the WCW Tag Team Titles! Which team is truly the most dominant? Find out at Slamboree!
Filthy Animals © vs. Yung Dragons- WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship
For a long time running, the cruiserweights of World Championship Wrestling have been in a league of their own. They’ve captured the attention of fans with their fast-paced, unorthodox, matches. In early 2001, that league the cruiserweights call their own was elevated with the addition of the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship. Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo were the inaugural champions, but the Filthy Animals of Rey Misterio Jr. and Billy Kidman won the titles at “Night of Champions”. However, up until last week on Nitro, the Filthy Animals were without challengers for the cruiserweight tag straps for Slamboree. That was changed when the Yung Dragons of Kaz Hayashi and Yang won a 4-team elimination tag team match, defeating Skipper and Romeo, Air Raid, and Lash Leroux and Kwee-Wee. Now at Slamboree, these four cruiserweights look to prove why the cruiserweight division is one of the best things in professional wrestling today!
Jeff Jarrett vs. Ric Flair
Ric Flair is a legend in this sport. He is a sixteen time World Champion, and arguably the greatest all-around wrestler in the history of professional wrestling. His mark will forever be left in the sport of professional wrestling. Not one man would doubt any of that… except Jeff Jarrett. Jeff Jarrett has called out Ric Flair, insulting Flair’s legacy, taking shots at him left and right, making wild comments like Flair has gotten where he is today by mooching off of the success of others. Jarrett’s statements have definitely pissed Flair off, which led to The Nature Boy challenging Jarrett to a match at Slamboree last week on Nitro. Flair waited and waited for a response, but never got one. Flair was about to leave the ring, but Jarrett’s music hit. But what Ric did not know was that he was being set-up. Flair anticipated Jarrett coming out the normal way, through the curtain. Instead, Jarrett came out from the crowd and busted an acoustic guitar over Flair’s head. Flair’s challenge was then accepted, setting up the match for Slamboree. It isn’t about title gold in this match; it is all about pride! Which man will walk out of Slamboree with his pride intact? Will it be The Nature Boy, or the Chosen One? Order Slamboree to find out!
Jim Duggan vs. Rick Steiner
When Eric Bischoff announced an 8-man tournament, Jim Duggan versus Rick Steiner was announced as a quarterfinal match that would take place that very same Nitro. When two men have a tournament match, there is almost always a winner and a loser. However, on that rare occasion, there is a draw. In Rick Steiner’s and Jim Duggan’s case, they had a draw. Both men got counted out, resulting in neither man advancing to the semi-finals. This infuriated The Dog Faced Gremlin, who proceeded to assault Jim Duggan after their match, and then again the following week on Nitro. The match was then signed for Slamboree at some point before the main event of last week’s Nitro, which feature Rick Steiner. However, Jim Duggan interfered in the match, brawling with Rick into the crowd. These two men are both going to be looking to cause as much bodily harm to the other in their match at Slamboree, as they both are infuriated with another. Expect a brutal match when these two come down to the ring!
World Championship Wrestling is the most prestigious company in the world of professional wrestling today, and WCW guarantees each and every fan that Slamboree will be a Pay Per View worth their hard earned money. Ladies and gentleman, do not be afraid to spend $30 on this mega-PPV event because it promises to be an exciting night in WCW! The PPV starts at 8 PM EST, so be sure to call your local PPV provider by then!
