Re: WWE During and After Wrestlemania 32
The best booking idea I have, and one I'm very proud of, is taking the KING OF THE RING and making it a bigger tournament with even more importance. Making it a big thing for 2016. I think WWE needs it's own G1 Climax of sorts, without the round robin.
Winner of the King of the Ring gets a shot at the World Title at Summerslam. I think they did this once with Lesnar in a way, but in this case this would now be the yearly deal. Just as the Rumble decides the Mania contender, the KOTR decides the SS contender.
Summerslam is getting a big push by WWE as a Mania like event, so why not the build for it start in June?
32 man tournament. All former World Champions qualify. NXT champ gets a spot too.
Title shot means the big names will want a spot in the tournament, like Cena, Lesnar, Orton. Now granted, this could me that a Lesnar or a Cena would be the most likely winner. Maybe, bit it could also be a great way have big surprises too. It will also allow for the building of new stars, big pushes for popular stars, and new storylines.
Example..lets make a small block...
Currently with the way WWE books now, you'd expect Owens and Sheamus to lose, and that Lesnar will face Cena. Well what if Owens beats Cena? Just as good. Owens is happy he moves on until he realizes he's facing the beast. You expect Lesnar to win, but in a twist, Owens causes Lesnar to get DQ'd. Owens moves on. Lesnar pissed. Owens goes on to face, lets say, Joe. Lesnar causes Owens to lose. This starts a feud that would culminate in a Cage match at Summerslam between the two in the co-Main Event.
Big twist, a push for a young star, and the beginning of a feud that leads to the big show. This is the kind of potential I think this more important KOTR would have.
Plus the matches leading to the finals would only get bigger and bigger as the big stars are facing the popular mid-carders, or each other.
In any case the tournament would still, mostly, be used to make a new star or push one. That doesn't change, but with the chance at a title shot, and now top guys in the tournament, people may actually find the month of June to be a compelling time to watch WWE. Basic concepts like just wanting to know who's going to win it all, may be enough to make people watch.
EDIT: Oh, forgot, most of the tournament would take place on Raw and Smackdown. The June PPV however would be renamed KOTR, and the 2 semi and final would take place on that show. The final being the main event.
