WWE Smackdown - 24th April 2003 (Contains This Week's Smackdown Spoilers)
I decided to write a script for next week's WWE Smackdown. I have also sent it to the WWE for review.
Show: WWE Smackdown
Air Date: 24th April 2003
Commentators: Michael Cole & Tazz
Written By: Richard Furness
The show opens with a video montage of last week's number one contender tournament final, with John Cena picking up the victory to advance to Backlash to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship.
Michael Cole announces that tonight, Brock Lesnar will be in attendance and both members of Los Guerrero's will see action against members from Team Angle. The first of which will be Chavo Guerrero taking on Charlie Haas.
Match: Charlie Haas vs. Chavo Guerrero
Outcome: Charlie Haas takes control and delivers more offensive than Chavo, however, Chavo Guerrero picks up the victory via roll-up while holding the rope.
Reasoning: A fast-paced match featuring solid chain wrestling to start the show. Chavo Guerrero gets the pin to show that, leading up to their encounter at Backlash, Los Guerrero's have the chance of going over and capturing the tag team championships, although the pin was not clean, therefore I feel it is justifiable.
In the back, Chris Benoit is visibly mad regarding his loss to John Cena last week, as he paces up and down the locker room, Rhyno is also in view behind him. Rhyno makes a comment regarding Benoit's loss to a "rookie" last week, which Benoit snaps to. Benoit slaps Rhyno, which results in the two brawling, only to be broken up by officials.
Match: Rikishi (With Jimmy Snuka) vs. Roddy Piper (With Sean O'Haire)
Outcome: After many attempted, yet failed interferences from O'Haire, referee Brian Hebner sends him to the back. Rikishi dominates Roddy Piper and whips him into the turnbuckle. As Rikishi goes for his patented "butt bump" in the corner, Piper pulls Hebner in the way, which leads to Hebner being knocked "unconscious". O'Haire returns down the ramp with a coconut and attempts to slide in the ring, but Snuka pulls O'Haire back to the outside. O'Haire connects with a stiff punch to Snuka which sends him to the ground, Rikishi rolls out of the ring and delivers a superkick to O'Haire. However, as he rolls back into the ring, Piper connects with a lead pipe. Brian Hebner, who did not witness any of the previous actions, comes around and counts the slow three count. Roddy Piper and O'Haire celebrate as Snuka checks on Rikishi.
Reasoning: This match furthers both Piper and O'Haire as dominant heels on the Smackdown brand.
Chris Benoit barges into Stephanie McMahon's office and interrupts her telephone call. Benoit demands a match with Rhyno later on in the evening, after Stephanie tries to convince Benoit to sit down and talk about their problems, Benoit tells Stephanie that in the WWE, they settle their differences like men in the ring. The match is granted and will be the main event for the show.
Backstage, Sable goes to knock on the door of Torrie's locker room, but instead stops and decides to open the door slightly and peeps round. She asks if Torrie is ready, as Michael Cole informs the viewers that Torrie and Sable team up tonight to take on Nidia and the returning Dawn Marie.
Match: Torrie Wilson & Sable vs. Nidia & Dawn Marie
Outcome: Torrie and Sable work well, although Torrie appears a little sceptical at first. Torrie picks up the win by pinning Dawn Marie. After the match, Torrie looks as if she is going to attack Dawn, but Sable tempts her to the back.
Reasoning: The win will help to develop the storyline between both Torrie and Sable.
The FBI are playing poker backstage. Palumbo is dealt a bad hand, Nunzio jokes about how the FBI dealt both Undertaker and Nathan Jones bad hands. As Stamboli laughs, Palumbo does not catch on and looks confused.
The Big Show and A-Train are seen making their way to the ring, where Big Show will take on Rey Mysterio.
Match: Big Show (With A-Train) vs. Rey Mysterio
Outcome: Big Show picks up the win after an attempted "West Coast Pop" from Mysterio is countered by the Big Show into a chokeslam. However, the match is not a squash, as Mysterio uses a fair deal of offence.
Reasoning: While the match puts over Big Show as a dominant force, Mysterio proves that he can still "hang" with the big boys.
Brock Lesnar is seen entering the backstage area, being greeted by fans once again.
Match: Shelton Benjamin vs. Eddie Guerrero
Outcome: The match sways back and forth, but as Eddie Guerrero climbs to the top rope for the frog splash, Haas interferes and pushes him off the turnbuckle to the outside, which prompts the disqualification. Haas roles Guerrero back in the ring and the two work on him, Chavo attempts to make the save but is beaten down by Team Angle. The two leave Eddie and Chavo in a heap in the middle of the ring.
Reasoning: It would not be justifiable to have both members of Team Angle defeated in one show via pinfall, so the disqualification and leaving Los Guerrero's in the ring would further the force of the tag team champions.
John Cena walks out of the production truck with a smile on his face. Michael Cole announces that Chris Benoit vs. Ryhno is next.
Match: Chris Benoit vs. Rhyno
Outcome: Chris Benoit picks up the win with the crossface. After the match, Benoit helps Rhyno up and the two shake hands, however, as Benoit leaves the ring, Ryhno attacks him from behind.
Reasoning: There is a lack of top heels on the Smackdown brand, therefore, I believe that Rhyno would be better used as a heel.
After the final commercial break, Brock Lesnar makes his way to the ring. Brock then grabs a microphone and talks about his match at Backlash with John Cena. Lesnar is interrupted by John Cena, who can be seen on the video screen. Cena once again freestyles about Brock Lesnar, saying that he has declared war not only on Brock Lesnar, but on the WWE championship too. As Brock is distracted by the video screen, John Cena enters the ring from behind Brock and lands a punch with his chain to the back of the head/neck of Brock Lesnar. Cena then delivers the death valley driver to Lesnar as the show draws to a close.
