WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: ECW Rules:
Rey Mysterio vs. Rob Van Dam w/Bill Alfonso
What an opening match to what is possibly the pay-per-view of the year so far. This was a very exciting match-up with control going back and forth between both competitors. Good use of weapons in this match-up. It was very exciting how control of the chair switched from one man back to another. A classic ECW Rules match with the classic Wolf Guy touch. A Kodak finish with Mysterio hitting the 619 in RVD’s face with a chair and Alfonso going through a table. I was not surprised to see Rey retain here because a win from RVD might hurt his gimmick a little bit. This way, RVD can find something to complain about even though it was a fair match.
The Rock and Shawn Michaels interaction was my second favorite promo of the night only to Christian and Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Rock is extremely funny as a face and Michaels and the gang are hilarious as heels. My favorite part of the promo is when The Rock recalls kicking the living crap out HBK in Smackdown. I can see a future match between this two charismatic men somewhere down the road.
The interview between Maria and the Success System was pretty good as well. I love how you use Maria as the dumb blonde and you know all the right jokes to make. Could you imagine if you really lost a fatal four way that you would die? Anyways, I can see Simon and Masters winning the belts somewhere down the line but I really wish you would push Chris to the I.C. division. You are using him really well and he has great wrestling potential.
WWE Tag Team Championships Match: Fatal Four Way:
America’s Most Wanted vs. Basham Brothers vs. A.F.A vs. System Success
This was definitely a filler match seeing as AMW retained their tag team championships once again. I just skimmed through this match but there was definitely some comical parts with Rico. Loved Rico asking for a kiss and trying to dance with one of the guys at the end. The ending was very exciting as most fatal four way matches are. I was shocked to see AMW retain because I thought for sure that A.F.A. or System Success would win.
20 Minute Time Limit:
Eddie Guerrero vs. Triple H
I knew something unique was going to happen in this match due to the special time limit stipulation. The match was very well written with Triple utilizing all the common techniques to run down the clock including running away. It would have been hilarious to see Hunter running around with a watch on his wrist during the match. Several close finishes in this match with both superstars hitting their finishes multiple times. I knew there would be a botched finish and there was. Possible count-out at the end but the clock ran out before it could be finished. I expected a successful pin attempt at the end but the third count to occur after time ran out. From the looks of things, this fued isn’t over but you never know.
Next up was my favorite promo of the night by far. Christian and Stone Cold both have incredible charisma and it is nice to see these two clash on the mic. I can see these two meeting at Survivor Series or Wrestlemania in an interpromotional match. I like Christian making fun of Austin’s whats. I am surprised that Christian once again did not try to go through Austin but instead walked away. I cannot wait until you have these two men meet.
World Tag Team Championships; Sudden Death Tables Match:
The DX Duo w/Luther Reigns vs. Roadkill & Danny Doring
This was a very good match but it would have been better if Luther was banned from ringside. There was many good table spots in this match with both teams using unique moves and saves as well. I was expecting a title change here tonight because the ECW tag team has been on a role. DX steal another victory due to Reigns being at ringside. I would like to see this fued continue but I doubt it will.
I wonder what is going on with Batista and all the other heels in the locker room. It is official that there is no interference in the Foley-Flair match-up but that means nothing. I wonder what Batista is cooking up. I guess I will have to wait until the match to see.
WWE United States Championship; Stretcher Match:
John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield w/ Jamie Noble vs. Chris Jericho
I had great expectations heading into this match and you did not let me down. There were definitely a lot of highlights in this match and there were a lot of great spots. You made great use of the stretcher in this match as well as Noble and the Bashams. I thought for sure Chris Jericho was going to overcome the odds but once again I was wrong. First Jericho wins the match but the referee is out cold. Then, he propels Noble all the way off the stage and to the floor leaving it a one on one contest. Lastly, the Bashams help JBL off the stretcher and take Jericho out temporarily. A very good match for the United States division with a good win for JBL. Looks like his luck has not run out yet!
World Heavyweight Championship Match: 6 Pack Elimination Match:
Shawn Michaels vs. Sting vs. Randy Orton vs. Undertaker vs. John Cena vs. Christian
Wow, a six man elimination match is very hard to write but once again, you did an excellent job. There were many blind tags and classic double team moves in the match and it was very entertaining to read. I was very surprised to see Cena be eliminated first as I expected him to get a longer run then he did. The only negative about this match was I would have not have introduced weapons until about the halfway point but it was up to you. Then, Sting gets eliminated thankfully as the other men in the ring aside from Taker have a lot of talent to work with. Then, it was hilarious to see Christian eliminate the Undertaker from the match. With all these victories over the Undertaker I can’t help but seeing one more match with the Undertaker to seal the deal. I hope you push Christian to the title soon because he is a great competitor. We are down to three men now and this part of the match alone was a highlight in itself. I wanted the end to be between HBK and Christian but I hope you are saving the fued for another day. Sweet finish with HBK delivering not one but two superkicks to the legend killer!
‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin & The Rock vs. Goldberg & Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman
This was a pretty good match but not as good as I expected. I think there were too many other gimmick matches on the card and this match was in their shadow. The match itself, however, was written out well, and it was orchestrated very realistically. It was awesome to see Rock and Austin get a victory with The Rock pinning Goldberg. I hope you do not end the fued there as it has great potential and they need to go at one another one v. one again.
Mick Foley (Cactus Jack) vs. Ric Flair
Even though this match took place between two old timers this was definitely the MOTN in my opinion. This match had all the classic streetfight weapons including barbed wire chairs, thumbtacks, trash cans, etc. For two old men this was one of the most electrifying matches that I have ever read. In my opinion, this could have been the greatest match of both these men’s careers. Nice to see the inner Cactus Jack come out at the end with the brutality even though Flair was already out. A double arm DDT onto tacks would have been very sick and cool to see. It was also nice to see the handcuffs come out earlier in the match as there were used in Mick’s I Quit match at the Royal Rumble a couple years back. After that match, I think you should write a couple more matches for Cactus Jack because he has still got it.
WWE Championship Match:
Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit
How long did it take you to write this match Wolfy seeing as it was a very long and well written match. This match has been done several times in real life but you wrote it out in your own unique way. Both men are great technical wrestlers and you used all their moves in the opportune times. If the Streetfight was not on the card, I definitely would have voted this MOTN. I was surprised you made Benoit tap out in the end but I don’t think a match-up like this would have settled for a pinfall. Nice to see the two men shake hands after the match. I would like to see Benoit turn heel and get a push soon because he is a great wrestler. Nothing against Kurt Angle but I think Benoit has paid his dues and deserves something if not just a major fued.
All in all, I would say this was one of the best PPV’s you have written.
I dunno when I will post my Survivor Series predictions be it later tonight or tomorrow but it will be tomorrow night before midnight at the latest.
