Smile Homicidal Championship Wrestling

I had been waiting for this moment for a long time. Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to run my own wrestling promotion. Now at the age of twenty nine, I am finally getting the chance to do so. I had been a wrestling fan for a really long time, ever since I was four years old.

I remember when my friends and I would take a trip to Montreal. It was a two hour drive so we got the chance to talk pro wrestling and what matches we would book in our dream promotions. We would criticize each other's cards and talk about who we would book and not book.

I saved my money well, when I got a job. I didn't drink so I didn't spend money on that. If anything, I'd spend my money on wrestling DVDs. I had some experience in indy wrestling. When I was sixteen years old, I was a referee for a wrestling promotion called Canadian Championship Wrestling.

I wasn't very good. In fact I was terrible. I was shy and too scared to make calls. The matches really suffered with me in the ring. I also took photographs at wrestling shows for the Canadian Pro Wrestling promotion that was in the next town.

So here I am, about to live my dream of running a wrestling promotion. I decided that I would run shows in Hull, Quebec as there were too many promotions in Ottawa, Ontario, which wasn't too far away.

Woah, you need to slow down a bit. Firstly, your presentation is basic and you write a lot of text. Sure, you can go about writing 2-5 times a day but that means that your making your writings seem less significant. I mean I want to read these and critique them before you go about and do the same mistakes three times, like presentation. Secondly, I don't know if it is bumping or not so I am just looking out for ya, from one BTB'er to another. Lastly, you'll crash and burn if you do it like this. You could have easily just had another day to preview and then two days later to post this.

Default Re: Homicidal Championship Wrestling

Apart from Sinisters post (Which I agree with) I feel your show previews need some work. What I try and do with my BTB is highlight a major match (Usually the main event or semi main event) and promote an angle as well. After that I'll give a quick run down of what else is on the card.

So for example, if I were writing your BTB preview for your next show I'd write something like:

"Former ROH World Heavyweight Champion Kevin Steen is coming to the ST Jean Bosco School on February 24th 2014. His opponent? The man who recently defeated CURRENT ROH World Heavyweight Champion Adam Cole "Dirty" Buxx Belmar. Buxx is on a roll but so is Kevin Steen. What will happen when these two collide on the 28th?"

Maybe you go into a little more detail if there is a history but for a basic generic match that works fine. Your matches are okay nothing great but some people (Including myself) struggle to write matches. I'd definitely look into bolding the start and end of the match though and prettying it up a little. You don't need to use tons of colours and things like that but it's better then just normal text.

My major complaint though is the lack of back story. You at least tried but you went from a guy who took photos at the matches and was an indy referee to a promoter using a lot of recognizable talent. Where did you find the money for this? How can your company afford to run weekly with some of the top talent in independent wrestling and continue to do so when the draws are crowds of around the 62 mark

That needed to be explained in the back story. Did your owner strike it big in the stock market and earn millions? Did he win the lottery and invest his money into wrestling? Has he been saving his cheques for years in hopes of launching his own company? Is his money limited? Things like this make it easier for a reader to immerse themselves in your story. I feel a side story always adds something to a BTB

In terms of your booking and shows. More realism. By that I mean maybe you do 1 show a month like most indies instead of once a week. Maybe you focus on your lesser known guys and bring in a more recognized talent every 3-4 months. Maybe a year or two into this thing your shows are drawing 500 and you can afford to bring in more recognizable talent regularly. Realism is a big thing for me and I feel it's been overlooked here.

Definitely don't stop but maybe work hard at the realism thing and definitely slow it down a little like Sinister said.
