SmackDown Review

Nice opening segment. Bradshaw’s promo was on point from the spot and his usual flow was caught perfectly. Only a couple of pointers. He said his “Smell like smoke -- Been through fire” line twice, which doesn’t happen and a lot of the time JBL will call the general manager “Teddy”. Just something that I noticed. Other than that, he was on point and came across as the most hated face on the roster. Matt Hardy comes out. He doesn’t do much and that’s a good thing since he’s far from strong on the mic. A little brawl breaks out but it doesn’t escalate. Really solid opening segment.

Nothing more than to establish the dominant nature of Batista who takes the match up with his Batista Bomb. Shocked to see OJ get in a sufficient amount of offense, looking surprisingly strong.

Quick promo time for Edge whom seems to be gaining more and more confidence by the week with the Money In The Bank contract. Solid interview adding a bit of hype for the main event, the Royal Rumble, and even WrestleMania.

Regal versus Burchill for the final Rumble match?? That’s not half bad. Hopefully, this doesn’t lead to the two of them splitting up because I think they make a nice pairing.

Solidly written handicap match and the desperation from Mysterio was felt throughout the recapped match. The No Contest finish catches me off guard a bit. I guess the ref decided to throw it out due to Mysterio’s actions earlier. Rey survives a potentially deadly situation after the match but decides to let Melina go, which is typical of Mysterio’s character. Nice writing.

The match seemed rather short but the finish made up for it. Quite inventive and the counters were nicely done. There was a slight mistake since you wrote that “Burchill pinned Burchill” but after reading the aftermath I figured Regal won the contest.

Nice little promo from Orton. Solid talk from Batista. BUT the way The Undertaker was written was perfectly on point. Some of the best I’ve seen as far as a segment goes. The dialogue and the graveyard scene just came together perfectly. Really well done. The reactions of Batista and Orton afterward were nice as well, Orton continuing to play his heel role to perfection as Batista shows very little fear.

Basically a filler match up and The Hooligans, Paul London and Brian Kendrick, pick up the victory against The Dicks. The Mexicools watch from ringside, returning the favor to Londrick.

Comical promo with Eugene and Lashley. Noticed that Lashley didn’t get a chance to use those fabulous promo skills.

Battle royal was damn good. Edge staying on the outside has been done before but it fits his character so well, its forgivable. Striker and Kid Kash are eliminated, almost right off the bat. Eugene outlasts the United States Champion Booker? Didn't see that coming. Don't agree with that move. Eventually, it comes down to just JBL and Matt Hardy. Nice way to bring us full circle from the start of the night and Hardy dumps JBL out of the ring after the missed CFH. Hardy thinks he has the win but Edge dumps him right over, getting the number thirty spot. He's looking like the odds on favorite at the moment but I doubt he'll win.

Really solid show. Great work.

SmackDown Review

Nice opening segment from JBL and Matt Hardy. Both men were in character, especially JBL. It was written well, flowed brilliantly and was enjoyable to read. A great way to start the show. However, I don’t see how it’s possible for Jillian to pull JBL out of the ring. For one, when Matt had the twist of fate ready, Jillian wouldn’t be able to pull him away. Two, she just doesn’t have the strength. Just something minor I noticed, but hey, small mistake, doesn’t really matter.

I normally don’t enjoy any thing that involves Batista, but I have to, say I did enjoy reading this match. It’s nice to see you using Orlando Jordon in this BTB. He clicked with The Animal in this match. Although it was a short contest, the finish was textbook, with the reversal, and then finisher, but it was written well.

I have to say, even though it was a short promo, it blew me away with how well you captured the characters of Edge, and more importantly, Josh Matthews.

Nice promo involving Mysterio, a two on one handicapped match against MNM sounds good. I can see Mysterio winning here, but maybe Teddy will go and send Rey a partner without him knowing? Should be an interesting match none the less.

Very good promo between Teddy and Regal/Burchill. Can’t say I didn’t predict the Regal and Burchill match when Regal asked for the entry spot. I’d say that Regal has this one in the bag, and will then go onto the Royal Rumble. This may, however, cause Burchill and Regal to break up, and maybe even fued? Maybe not.

Msyterio v MNM was very good. The match went well for the first few minutes, with the fast paced action being really enjoyable. I couldn’t really understand the ending though, and I don’t know why it as called a No Contest. Maybe I’m in the wrong though, you never know. I seriously thought you would have had MNM put Mysterio over in this match, but I guess it wasn’t to be. Dissapointed that it ended without a winner. Nice aftermath, I just couldn’t possibly see Mysterio swinging the chair at Melina.

As I expected, Regal goes onto the Royal Rumble. Not the greatest of match’s, the ending got very confusing with “burchill sitting down, pinning burchill”? I really didn’t get that line. Decent match, just not one of the best. I thought it would have effected the tag team, but they seemed to have pulled through in tact. That may change though, seeing as Regal may boast about beating him, causing Burchill to turn on him. I wouldn’t mind seeing as feud from the two of these.

I laughed my ass off at Randy Orton’s first line in his promo. “Y’know, I don’t often say this, but … I told you so.” Classic line, which I’ve heard Orton say numerous time before. Batista v Orton v Taker at the Rumble is looking awesome, and I can see Orton picking up the title either here, or at WrestleMania. I’d say a Raw superstar will win the Rumble, leaving Orton to challenge for the title at Mania. I laughed when I read “GONG”. I was wondering what the fuck? Then I remembered that’s how you describe the Undertakers entrance. Although Taker doesn’t speak that often, you used him well in this promo, and didn’t over do it. Nice way to hype the three way at the Rumble. I’m looking forward to it.

A brilliant match between the Dicks and London and Kendrick. I enjoyed this match, it was just the right length. Even though it was longer than most of the match’s on the show so far, it didn’t fell like it dragged on, and was enjoyable to read. The finish was good, and it was nice to see London and Kendrick pick up the win. From what I’ve read, this seems to be Match of the Night so far.

Awesome promo from Eugene, and once again, you caught his character perfectly. Promo’s are you’re strong point. I’m not saying you’re not good at match writing, you really good at it, it’s just I prefer you’re promo’s.

The battle royal was good, and I take back what I said about the tag team match being the Match of the Night. It was a nice way to prepare for the Rumble. Nice win for Edge, I hope he wins the Rumble, and I hope he wins the title at Mania. If he wins the Rumble, I want him to go for the Raw World Title, so we can see that Batista v Randy Orton match.

Overall, it was an awesome show. Props to you, because your promos were brilliant. You used this show as a nice way to hype the Rumble, and I’m really looking forward to it. Catch ya man.

Update

~ As it stands, I have currently finished all but a few minor details of the Royal Rumble. I need to edit the Cena/Michaels match slightly, as well as the Royal Rumble match itself. But, with that said, it's very close to being complete.

~ I will be posting an official preview soon too, complete with banners, to give this PPV and its matches some extra background, so that everyone is clued in when reading.

~ I think I'm up to date with returning reviews, but if not, PM me.

~ Thanks for the reviews and predictions also.

Royal Rumble 2006
Match Previews

Date: January 29th 2006
Location: American Airlines Arena; Miami, Florida
Theme: "Stricken" by Disturbed

Royal Rumble Match;
Winner has automatic shot at EITHER brand's Champion at WrestleMania XXII:

Entrants in Alphabetical order;
Bobby Lashley, Booker T, Brian Kendrick, Carlito, Charlie Haas, Chris Benoit, Chris Masters, Chavo Guerrero, Edge, Eugene, Finlay, Gregory Helms, John `Bradshaw' Layfield, Joey Mercury, Johnny Nitro, Kane, Ken Kennedy, Kid Kash, Lance Cade, Matt Hardy, Matt Striker, Paul London, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, Rob Conway, Rob Van Dam, Shelton Benjamin, Super Crazy, William Regal, (One Raw Spot Remaining)

Many men have come to this point, but only a few have conquered all to live their dream at Wrestlemania. This year, 2006, the field is as varied and open as it has ever been. Superstars from both Raw and Smackdown believe that they have what it takes, and that they will rise to the occassion with the lights on bright.

The favourites include men such as 'The Big Red Machine' Kane, a 7-foot monster who overcame his treacherous former partner Big Show to qualify. With a record 11 eliminations in 2001, Kane may have every advantage heading into this Sunday. But one cannot count out a man such as John 'Bradshaw' Layfield, who has been on a quest to reclaim the WWE title, ever since he lost it at Wrestlemania 21. But the young Matt Hardy will surely have a thing to say about that, known for his hatred of JBL. Other young suoerstars looking to make a name for themselves include Raw's Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin, the powerhouse Bobby Lashley, Charlie Haas, Chris Masters and many more. Even 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair is coming to the dance, but following the beating he took from Carlito this past week, that may not be advisable. And, of course, the odds on favourite, the #30 entrant, Edge, who is looking to Main Event Wrestlemania for the first tme in his career. But a certain returning Rob Van Dam may have other ideas...

WWE Championship Match:
Kurt Angle © vs. Triple H

Perhaps two of the greatest WWE superstars go head-to-head with the gold on the line; the 6-time WWE Champion defends against the 10-time World Champion Triple H. One can thank Triple H for the brutality that has taken this feud of late, as 'The Game' utilised hs mind games by bringing in Angle's brother, Eric, to Raw, and annihilating him. But where was Kurt? Did Helmsley have something to do with that also? Has Triple H finally gotten inside the head of the Olympic Gold Medallist, or has he simply ignited a fire?

World Heavyweight Championship; Triple Threat Match:
Batista © vs. Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker

This scenario was not how Randy Orton had envisioned his World title opportunity at the start of the year. On one side, the man he once ran with in Evolution, 'The Animal', the World Heavyweight Champion Batista, and on the other ... the legendary Undertaker. Orton has had his problems with both men over the past year, as it now comes to a head. The Nine-Month reign of Batista is in serious jeapordy, as he steps into the ring with a 'Legend Killer' and a Legend. Undertaker earned this shot after defeating the #1 Contender Orton on Smackdown, but will it be enough to propel 'The Phenom' into Wrestlemania once again?

Royal Rumble Qualifier:
John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels

For once, we can thanks Mr. McMahon and Eric Bischoff for making this monumental match up. The reason is not as pleasant. Both McMahon and Bischoff want to keep Cena and Michaels far away from the WWE title, but understood that they could not keep both men out of the Rumnle match. So the two pawns have been pitted against one another, to, as McMahon and Bischoff no doubt hope, destroy one another. But whereas Cena has continued to act as one would expect, a different, more sinister side has emerged from Shawn Michaels in his quest to qualify forr the Royal Rumble.

Just wanted to get this up. The Royal Rumble will most likely be posted some time this week
