Re: TNA: Changing The Face Of Pro Wrestling
April 2nd 2006
Backstage at Wrestlemania 22
So because Chris Jericho is a fucking God, I am backstage at the biggest WWE PPV of the year. But unlike WWE officials think, I have a personal agenda. I already knew that I was going to meet with two solid workers, if more fell into my lap I wasnít going to complain. When I arrived, I just took everything in. This was the one PPV that WWE blows everything on. This was what I had to measure up to with Slammiversary. As a fan, it got no bigger than this.
Backstage, I met some WWE employees. Most of them were nice and friendly but some were pricks. You could feel the tension backstage. Guys like Mysterio, Edge and Cena knew they were about to partake in the biggest matches of their careers. Others like Triple H and Shawn Michaels were calm because theyíve been on this stage before. I didnít want to meet with _______ until after his match. There was no sense in me trying to fuck up his concentration heading into such a big match. I met up with _________ first.
Me: Hey _________, whatís up man?
_________: The hell are you?
Me: Oh, three guys from the south sent me.
_________: Thatís all you had to say kid. Step into my office.
He pulled me aside to a near wall.
_________: So I talked with your boys and Iíve been following the product and Iíve got to say, Iím impressed. You see what I do in this company Iím in right now, not shit. We both know I have more talent than Triple H or Randy Orton, yet those pricks are in the main event. You know what Iím saying man?
Me: I hear you dude. You see what Iím doing with TNA, you know that I can book talent on the highest possible level. If I add you to the mix, holy shit man, the possibilities are endless.
________: Thatís what Iím saying kid. Youíve clearly seen my work, you know Iím the greatest fucking wrestler in the industry today. Here in the E, Iím some Raw jobber whoís lucky to get a punch of offense in. Other places, I was the fucking king.
Me: Thatís why youíve got to come to TNA. Listen to the shit Iíve got planned for you just in the first month.
I threw out my idea to him and he clearly liked it. We exchanged numbers and he said that all I needed was to make a phone call and he would leave WWE at a moments notice. What did he or Vince care for either? He wasnít signed to a fully written contract and Vince had nothing for him to do. Iím saving Vince money and save him from hell.
I continued to walk around backstage, trying to keep a low profile. I ran into _______, a truly nice person.
Me: Holy hell, _______ itís great to meet you.
_______: Ummmm hi. I would love to chat but I just got some huge news and I need to think things over.
Me: Care to talk about it?
The problems were spilled and I helped out along the way. This could turn into another possible talent steal. Nothing too big with this one but like Joey Styles, every little bit helps.
After his match, I talked things over with ______. We walked out back to keep everything on a private level.
Me: Ok, Iím going to cut to the chase. My sources tell me your contract is running out and based on your handling here in WWE, you canít be the happiest man in the world.
_______: Iíve been in better situations.
Me: Exactly, TNA is a better situation. Now I donít cut any bullshit with anyone, I hit them straight.
_______: I like to hear that.
Me: So hereís the deal: I canít promise you the world if you jump. Youíve seen how Iíve handled talent like Jericho, itís been a slow and steady build. I canít just give you some monster ass push just because you jump ship, thatís not fair to the loyal workers.
_______: I see what youíre saying. Loyalty is key man, some people donít know that in this company.
Me: Iím loyal to everyone through and through. Now Iím sure youíve caught a TNA show or two.
_______: Yeah man, Iíve seen a few shows.
Me: Then you know what weíre all about. Weíre not about bullshit storylines and stupid gimmicks. Weíre about entertaining wrestling and hooking the fans in. You would continue that trend in TNA. Now Iím not going to ask you to make a decision right now because thatís unfair to you. But what I am asking is to keep the phone lines open. Is that cool with you?
________: Thatís cool with me.
We shook hands and left it at that. Nothing was certain but things were looking up. As for WM 22, WWE pulled out all the stops:
*Spirit Squad over Kane/Show for WWE Tag Titles: Kane and Show dominated until Kane turned on Show and became the monster that all these Kane marks wanted. Although they have a crappy gimmick, the Spirit Squad is filled with a lot of talent wrestlers.
*Carlito wins Money In The Bank: Nice to see WWE pushing Carlito as he has a lot of potential. A solid match with a lot of cool spots.
*JBL over Benoit for the US Title: It sucks that Benoit lost the belt but JBL is a solid choice to carry it.
*Edge over Foley: Damn, now this was brutal. Every shot Foley and Edge took looked like it killed them. Kudos to both men for beating the shit out of each other.
*The Boogeyman over Booker T: Next
*Mickie James over Trish for the Womenís Title: Best womenís match Iíve ever seen. Mickie is a great psycho and Trish is just hott. I donít know how they can continue this storyline or follow up this match, but I might be watching.
*Undertaker over Henry: Hey look, Taker wins a WM Match. That dude from the Longest Yard attacked Taker after the match. Iím sure heíll be just another Taker victim.
*Vince over Michaels in a retirement match: Ok, we know Michaels isnít retired but damn if he didnít need some time off. Another very good hardcore brawl and my favorite match of the night.
*Orton over Angle & Rey for the World Title: Not given enough time but a nice spot match from these three. Orton kept up with Angle and Rey, so kudos to him.
*Torrie over Candice: Next
*Triple H over Cena for the WWE Title: He had a nice run but holy shit, almost a full year with the belt? I was actually glad to see HHH take the title off of him.
A lot of good matches on this card but if things went my way, Iím going to make WM look like Great American Bash (WWE Version) with Slammiversary.
