Renegade’s SummerSlam Review:
Ok, no video package, which is strange, thought there would have been one. Commentary looked like it dragged on too long, but owell.
Ok, starting off with a Handicap Match seems very similar to what ran on Smackdown during the fall and I believe we have seen this match before but owell. The powerhouses seem as if it could very well indeed be in their favor tonight even though the odds are against them. The King’s Court is going to need some type of plans if they are going to beat Batista and Lashley tonight but it just doesn’t seem like they will. Booker and Lashley now, ouch Lashley could have very well just gave the Court the match with him running right smack into the pole. Finlay trying to wear down Lashley but one has to wonder how long can they keep Lashley down. BookEnd! And it will keep on going, thanks to the Animal. The odds just aren’t right now in the favor of the powerhouses especially with Booker, Regal, and Finlay trying to do everything they can to prevent the tag in. Running DDT won’t keep the Animal down, just go ahead and end the match Dave! And there we go, end of the match and as expected, the powerhouses gain the win. 11 Minutes, perfect amount of time for the opening contest of the night.
Didn’t like the Matt Hardy interview, only thing that sounded right during it was whenever he said his famous line “Matt Hardy Will Not Die” Otherwise it was just a bland segment that really had no reasoning at all.
Time for the Bar Brawl, one of many gimmick matches tonight I believe. I’m not expecting this to be too long. Wow, already Raven wants the match over. Anyways seems right now just like your typical hardcore title match, nothing major. Haven’t really seen anything yet that has impressed me yet and glad to see this is being kept short. Surely enough as I say that, someone gets their head thrown into a glass mirror, best spot so far. Hmmm, must not have been a sturdy pool table and a Rhino Driver through it would have been sick to see. Ending was nice but wait, Holly just took the championship. Guessing the Hardcore title will now be on both brands?
This one beats the Hardy segment. Goldberg and Undertaker’s match tonight might be ok, never have been the biggest fans of Goldberg as he’s just another WCW name in the WWE. Not too keen on that but anyways.
And here we go, wow early start with Hardy diving through the ropes. Kind of slow paced match so far it seems to me but maybe the pace will begin picking up towards the end because otherwise, this will be just like any other match, Bulldog seems a little early on but anyways, he wasn’t going to get the win with it anyways. Hassan trying, wait he never has to try and gain heel heat because everyone hates him but the spit spot made him look intense somewhat. Hassan’s DDT won’t end it and I’m thinking we get a new champion here tonight. We’ll have to wait and see though but I’m pretty sure we’ll end up with one. By the way, it’s Daivari! That’s how it’s spelt. Anyways, Jeff Hardy comes down, and have a feeling Matt’s about to take the title here. Twist of Fate and that’s it, we have our new champion crowned right here!
Ok interview, seems like Cade and Jindrak are becoming cockier and cockier by the day which is what their characters were designed for anyways. But now onto the match, thought New Age Outlaws might win but I think we see one last match, maybe come Unforgiven. However, it does seem from the get go that Gunn and Dogg are ready for tonight. Offense from the heels didn’t last too long and it seems like it’s going to be all NAO tonight. Cade and Jindrak will do anything and everything to retain those belts though and if they want their advantage, they better capitalize now. Thinking we might be seeing a tag soon from Road Dogg to Gunn. And there’s the tag, let’s see how the match breaks down from here. Wait, a belt shot and feet on the ropes, as expected Cade and Jindrak have to cheat which makes me think we get one last gimmick match come Unforgiven,
Short segment, could have been way longer and something tells me Orton might win but Kennedy could use it.
You’ve got Kennedy here as a face, not many people do so let’s see how his face runs last here in the thread. This match is like a battle of the mindgames, both men are great at doing so and we might see a few mindgames tonight. Been Orton pretty much throughout the match but I don’t know, something tells me we might see Kennedy get the win right here. No way the RKO is going to be this early on right now, just no way. Finally Kennedy got his turn at bringing some offense into the match and the Tornado DDT might not do much but it did change the tide of the match. Orton just isn’t going to get the RKO that easily, it just doesn’t work like that. Hmmm, short match but as they say, the third time is the charm and Orton got the win. Kind of surprised me as I thought Kennedy would go over Orton but Orton wins though I don’t think this is it between both men.
Um, didn’t like the Booker promo. Can’t tell if Booker was trying to be funny or not because if he was meant to be, he wasn’t. Guessing we get now Finlay feuding with Booker, either that or it was just to separate them.
And here we go, an anticipated match that if given the time could be well. Both men showing their wrestling aspects they have and it worked well during the beginning. Haven’t seen or heard of the Muffler Stretch, maybe just another name for a move. Flying Clothesline and that might help the Phenomenal One back into the match, not for long though. Wow, Exploder off the ropes and we might see Styles down for a little bit, but it won’t be enough to get Haas the win. Plancha but then a Sit Out Powerbomb, you gave Haas very little time to recover and I couldn’t see him doing it that quick after being taken down. Pele Kick and as always, you have to be careful because you can be hit from anywhere, at anytime with the Pele. Just move after move after move, starting to get unreal in there and will anyone lay down! Hmm, missed Spiral Tap, then the Haas of Pain locked on and it doesn’t seem to be in Styles’s favor anymore. The ending makes me think we get another match up in the future and I do hope so, both men put on a great one.
Ok segment, Haas is hard to use and didn’t seem right but Carlito was spot on. See you’re using the Carlito/Torrie relationship. Either that or it’s just a one off thing tonight just to use a filler promo for the show, who knows!
Ok, here we go as AMW meets MNM, battle of the new tag teams I guess you could bill it as both teams have had their success. Wow, interesting to see Melina cheat! Like she never does it but what did surprise me is so early on. Little bit of action and with it all coming at such a quick speed, I’m wondering how long this match will be. Doesn’t seem like it will end up lasting too long if it continues at this rate of speed. Wow, the match continues on with some action and like I said earlier, guessing this one will find itself ending early. Superkick to Nitro, that should take him out of the equation somewhat for right now. Here comes Storm, looks like we might crown some new champions if he can keep it up right now. Another Superkick followed by the Death Sentence! Wow, we might have new champions here! Another Death Sentence right after and there we go, we have our second new champions of the night!
Hmm, another short promo but owell. Probably best one of the night and I enjoyed it, both men were in character and I don’t think HBK gets the title tonight.
And here we go, this one is just going to be an all out brawl which I think should have been saved considering we’ve had a Hardcore title match plus War Games. Hoping since Austin took advantage early on, Cena takes the win, as really Austin doesn’t need the win. About to say Cena had a little bit of offense but didn’t last too long, Austin got it back. Glad to see it hasn’t been too much of a brawl as that would make it too similar to what the hardcore match was tonight and it wouldn’t seem right with another match like that. Wow 5 Knuckle Shuffle early on and there is no way that is going to be it tonight for Austin. Superplex there and that could make a major change in the match but I doubt it will do much at all. Austin is starting to get back into it and though he puts up a good fight, I still believe it’s going to be Cena the one that walks away with the victory. Well maybe not and Cena gets back into it, don’t see the win coming from that though. Wow, Cena just made a major impact right there with the F-U to the outside, something different. Wow, Cena is determined to make Austin keep bleeding and take that win. Wow, Cena just made Austin pass out, truly a rare occurrence and we will never hear the end of it from Cena. Really, not many hardcore spots with it being a No DQ match but that was fine like I mentioned earlier.
Another short promo, wow all the promos tonight seem way short and seem off though you’ve never been the best promo writer. But anyways, hoping we get maybe another good one because tonight, they seem to be lagging.
And an ultimate showdown between two powerhouses. Hopefully ‘Taker wins it as I really can’t stand Goldberg and wouldn’t mind if he left the thread! ‘Taker is just going all out right now doing all he can wanting to take Goldberg down early. Ouch, huge tumble right there for ‘Taker onto the steps and that could hurt him in the end. Thought something would maybe happen with the barricade and this is just an all out brawl right here tonight. No Chokeslam from Undertaker but Goldberg wouldn’t let him get off that easy and he could have just changed the match a little bit right there with the Military Press. But as you all know, ‘Taker just won’t let anything keep him down and it will take a lot to do so. I’m surprised ‘Taker just no selled the Spear, thought maybe that could have been one move that would keep him down but guess not. And just noticed, Old School got hit so late in the match up, normally early on but maybe this means the ending is very well nearing for Goldberg right now. Wow, Goldberg just isn’t having luck tonight with the Spear, wait he just got Chokeslammed. This must mean Goldberg is taking the win tonight. Goldberg can try and do everything but he just can’t keep ‘Taker down. Wow, ending is strange which makes me think for certain we have a rematach coming, maybe No Mercy?
Ok video package, one of the best segments of the night I must say. Short video package as have all the promos been tonight and maybe works need to be done on them.
And here comes our first of two championship main events tonight, HHH will find a way to retain since he just won the title back in June. HBK wants no piece of HHH apparently as he keeps finding himself running. Another thing, I think Wolfy has pointed it out before but it would be better if you wrote out Triple H instead of HHH, it looks better and doesn’t get confused with HBK. HBK starting to get a hold of Triple H now, his best bet would be to begin wearing down Triple H and trying to make him out of it. Triple H is just getting beaten down but really, nothing has stood out in the match to make it great which makes me think we might see the Fatal 4 Way get more time and be more of a wrestling match. Well Triple H might have a quick break now that he just kicked Michaels out of the ring but I don’t see it lasting too long. HBK starting to break it down now, we might very well have a new champ if HHH isn’t careful. Wow, no SCM and now is Triple H’s time to capitalize but can he do so. Figure four but HBK isn’t going to win with it. Triple H is starting to break it down (no pun intended) on Michaels. McMahon’s here! Wow, Triple H just got destroyed out there by the Corp. Vince just received the Sweet Chin Music, wait and Triple H retains! The beginning was nothing special but when it came down to the end, it started heating up again.
Holly wins the title again, poor Coach.
And here we go; a match that should be well considering the men that are in it right now could put on a good match if given the time. Lesnar gets taken down in the beginning, which is interesting and I see him coming in a few minutes and dominating. Jericho wanted a handshake but instead he got a Belly-to-Belly Suplex. It seems Lesnar of course happens to be the man to take down and they’re trying to do so but it isn’t working right now to their favor. Nice Double German Suplex move which is always cool to see. Angle had Lesnar but it’s hard to overcome Lesnar’s power as Angle just learned himself with the Powerbomb. Top rope Belly to Belly wasn’t special as we’ve seen Angle hit it twice but not on the ropes and secondly, Angle just got powerbombed, no way he could have gotten up that quick. Meh, Lesnar never used the SSP often and only at WrestleMania once so I couldn’t see him doing it just then. Lionsault but Jericho won’t win it there, that’s for sure. Hmmm, from the Sharpshooter to receiving an F-5, certainly interesting for Benoit. Ankle Lock on Lesnar, something tells me though Lesnar won’t be the one tapping though. Quick tap out from Jericho and this should have been a longer match, didn’t get too much time and had it did, it could have been a match of the night but it couldn’t as it seemed too short.
And let’s get this started. Not too keen on there being eliminations since Survivor Series is really the only place that has elimination matches so. Ugh, Hall is starting it out, maybe he will find himself being the first one gone. Edge had some offense but please don’t let the future be owned by the washed up past, make Edge eliminate Hall! Ugh, please someone come out here and stop this travesty, let’s get Hall out early and quick! And our first new entrant, the Masterpiece which means 2 on 1 for Hall! Ouch there went Hall into the cage, Masters and Edge best bet is to continue wearing him down until the new person comes in. Well if anyone can save Hall from the beating he is getting, it has to be Fol…eer Cactus Jack! Foley’s got some weapons out there and you know weapons that Foley brings are always dangerous. And the vets have the advantage now but for how long happen to be the question. And here is a personal favorite of mine, Shelton Benjamin. Mandible Claw, early on and no way Masters is about to be eliminated! Yes, dragon whip then the Spear, Scott Hall is gone, best moment of the match so far! And here comes Van Dam, maybe a little retribution now helping Foley be eliminating someone. Van Dam is just out there throwing it all on the line right now for someone to get eliminated. I’m wondering what’s in that duffel bag, maybe thumbtacks or barbed wire of some type. But um, sick Hurricanrana off the ropes, Benjamin always knows how to steal the show when it’s needed. And the Alpha Male is in. Had a feeling some barbed wire was in the bat and I was somewhat right since it was Barbie. Van Dam is doing anything and everything tonight, which makes me think he might be the next gone from Team Foley. Hmmm, Rocky just got here and now he took down Masters, quick elimination there. Right on again with the thumbtacks but Foley wouldn’t have them in his back since he always wears his flannel shirt right. Well I mean they’d be through his back but they wouldn’t be able to see them. Owell. And Bischoff’s final teammate is here with it being Captain Charisma. Hmmm, Foley is already gone which makes me no surprise considering the beating he has taken just recently. Sting hasn’t even got in and Tomko, nice move there, just laid him out for the big man. There went Edge, shame to see him go so early as he has been in it for the entire match. Would have been cool for him to be able to say he survived the entire match tonight! And it’s down to 3 on 2, Brown just pounced the living hell out of Van Dam and next to go must be Brown. Well the faces are trying to make every advantage they can right now with what they have in the ring. Had a feeling Brown would be next since he hasn’t played too much of a role during the match tonight. And well, Rock has been taken out of the equation for now but I don’t think it will be too long. Like I mentioned earlier, Shelton will do anything he can to make sure that if he doesn’t win, he still stole the show. He just did it again, sick spot to get Sting eliminated and if someone goes from Team Bischoff next, it’s Benjamin. Wow, Christian just turned on Shelton, didn’t see that coming. Kane’s back? Forgot he had been gone! Rock Bottom, it’s over now and thanks to Kane, Team Foley has won.
Overall, good show though some matches were short, promos were off and too short at times too and also, I wouldn't ever book 12 matches for a SummerSlam again. Maybe for WrestleMania but not SummerSlam.
