DDMac's Raw Recap Review
~ Good to see this thread back up and running again, especially when I was really starting to get into it. Anyway, the show kicks off with a match. Shock horror! Not often Raw does that. Not just any match though, but an Extreme Rules Royal Rumble Qualifier between two ECW Originals RVD and Sabu. I vaguely remember this match being the idea of Mr. McMahon or Coach as a punishment of sort, making the two friends fight it out for a spot. Correct me if I'm wrong there. Well,I was hoping and kind of expecting RVD to get into the RR match, as, well,he's the bigger WWE star out of the two guys. It certainly would be a nice way to start the show and get the crowd fired up, with these two spot feasts giving us Van Daminators and the likes, which makes it quite funny that it ended with an inside cradle. I didn't quite know what Alfonso was doing there afterwards and thought at first that it might be for some significant reason, but it was just to complete the show of ECW respect for one another.
~ JBL gets in the faces of the ECW Originals next. Nothing has ever come from JBL's taunting of ECW in real life, except for more and more taunting, so it might be interesting to get an actual feud out of this, with JBL actually having matches with the Originals and such.
~ Well, I guess we know the next World Tag Team title fued then. AMW going up against MNM and winning. I can see following this win a pursuit of sorts, perhaps with MNM constantly sneaking the win right up until Wrestlemania, where I am predicting the demise of the RKO Army. Yep, check me out with the bold predictions
~ Nice little backstage segment between Raw's two resident monsters and their managers. This reminded me of the other week on Raw when Umaga met Khali, although Show is slightly more vocal than Khali. This tension is probably just thrown in there as a tool for excitement, as I can't really see a feud developing out of it, though there may be a bit of "whose is the best monster" or "there is only room for one monster on this show". We'll see. Good Main Event by the sounds of it. It's always good to have feuds going into the actual Royal Rumble match itself, and on Raw you certainly have, with Undertaker having problems with Big Show, as well as with Stone Cold.
~ A good match up for the women next with four solid workers of this division going at it. At first it was basically a means of getting Mickie James to square off against the #1 Contender Gail Kim. But it seems as though some tension is being built between Mickie and Victoria, basically making Trish the loose end of the bunch.
~ Next up is a nice little Carlito's Cabana with Shawn Michaels doing a good bit of running down his Royal Rumble opponent. I can't really see HBK winning at the Rumble, what with Orton having only just taken the belt at NYR, and I can see Orton/Edge at Wrestlemania. Orton gets in a few words too, and then the RKO Army beat down on HBK and Carlito.
Orton grabs himself
Benoit makes the save, so he is now apparently getting involved in this business with the RKO Army, thus giving Benoit something to do, as before he had little direction.
~ Very nice move by Coach making Doane take on Benoit next, kind of officially placing Benoit in the feud. Good win for Benoit; kind of unfortunate for Doane, as he has been looking pretty strong recently. Doane didn't sound too weak though, and Benoit is the Main Eventer so he needed the win.
~ Yep, the lines of division are being drawn between Mickie and Victoria. I can see Mickie getting the win at the Rumble, thus setting up this as her next real feud.
~ I am quite enjoying the way this feud with Edge is being built for Orton. Using Lita almost as a messenger of sorts, it seems as though Edge will be stalking Orton for a while. I can definately see the two of them locking up at Wrestlemania, but the question remains, will it be for the WWE title, or will Edge cost Orton the belt before then? Hmmm... I wonder.
~ Good anouncement for next week with some major matches announced. JBL against RVD (I'd still enjoy a JBL/ECW feud), and the Six-Man tag look particularly impressive.
~ Sounded like an excellent Main Event certainly, with Umaga, Big Show, Heyman and Estrada sounding like a real faction currently. Undertaker had the win but Umaga gets involved and Austin just watches. Kind of like the slow burning way you have been building up The Rock/HHH feud towards Wrestlemania, it now sounds as though the same thing is happening between Undertaker and Austin. That would be epic at W'Mania and well overdue.
Overall, I know it was a recap so apologies if this review was a little lacking. I enjoyed it still though, as I have been for a while. The RKO Army feud heading into the Royal Rumble has been a major attraction thus far.
