Re: WWE 2006 & Beyond by ddmrko
Six Man Tag: A good match to kick things off, with great athleticism from all six participants. The MNM angle probably could have been played up a bit more, but that’s forgivable. The star of the match has to be Benjamin, with the springboard to the outside, and his tie ups with Van Dam. Van Dam picks up the win.
Rey/Hardy: A bit of hostility here. A bit of foreshadowing perhaps? Thankfully, Rey sticks to his guns. A short promo, but it sure said a lot.
Benoit/Henry: Great showcase by Benoit here. He took it to Mark Henry, and showed his vicious opponent what viciousness is all about. It looks like Henry might be out of action, which I’d normally applaud…but he stepped up in this match so much that I think I’ll actually miss him. Way to use The World’s Strongest Man.
Trip Promo: WOW. Strong words by The Game here. Great analogy to the Yankees. And what’s more, he addressed the backstage politics issue. He is one of the best in the business for a reason. Vinnie Mac had some ominous comments as well. What will happen tonight? I sense something big. Best comment of the promo? “Do adult diapers come in thong style?”
Hardcore Match: Brutal. Absolutely brutal. But in a good way. These two gave it all they had in this one, and I’d expect no less from future Hall of Famers. Personally favorite spots included the raking of the barbwire across the BACK of Jack’s head, as well as the flying elbow through the table that didn’t connect.
Show promo: Heyman is his usual cocky self in this one. Nothing really special about the promo. It just hyped Show up a bit more before his match.
Show/Rey: I have to call this one the worst match of the night. It was just too much of a squash for my tastes. However, the chokeslam off of the top rope was pretty sick. With Hardy’s involvement, could we be seeing a possible Rey/Hardy feud? Hmm.
Cena Promo: Cena showed some much needed intensity, with the Judgment Day comment and all, but Kennedy and JBL really made this promo. The “MISTER…KENNEDY!” line is always classic. And the Paris Hilton/Jenna Jameson/Your Mom jokes set this promo off as the best of the night. Cena displays the intensity again by attacking the tag champs.
Cena/Orton: I don’t like Cena. I don’t like First Blood matches. I don’t like run ins. But you made this work anyway. A good match. Not great, but good. I liked the 5 Knuckle onto the chair, as well as the RKO onto the chair. Brutal. I didn’t expect the run in, nor did I care for it. And I didn’t like Cena being the only man left standing at the end of the match. But besides all the faults, I enjoyed the match.
Michaels/Vince Promo: I honestly thought that Vinnie would only try to get to one member of DX tonight, but here we see another example of the seeds of dissension planted. Vince makes some good points, but now I’m starting to think that DX will stand together by the night’s end.
Women’s Title: This was what it was. I’m never a fan of women’s matches, but this one kept my interest by being fast paced. Mickie steals the win in this one, which is typical. Just an okay match.
Long Promo: I can’t wait to see who the mystery guy is. I’m pretty sure it will be a TNA guy after what Teddy said to Sabin. King Booker makes his presence felt, and breaks his King character a bit…which is very welcome. Good to see the old Booker come out once and again. And it’s always good to see Mr. Kennedy. “I think you’re a joke. Close enough.” This triple threat match ought to be good…but I’m not too fond of the addition of a third team…especially The Pitbulls.
Ladder Match: Good match which turned out well having three teams. There are too many memorable spots to mention, but my personal fav goes to the crossbody off of the top of the ladder to the outside by Kash. Classic.
DX Promo: Big words from both members of DX, but I think it just reaffirms my feelings that they’ll stick together.
Long Promo2: Uh…will Mystery Man make it? Perhaps a late match run in which will earn his team the win?
SD Six Man Tag: HOLY SHIT. The Rock returns in the biggest shocker of the night. I can’t believe it. As far as the match goes, it was really good, with all five guys being showcased well. Lashley had to be the star of the match, but Booker was right behind him with an impressive Houston Hangover. But all of this was totally eclipsed by The Rock clearing house! One note, why was the whole locker room in the ring? That didn’t make much sense. And I was disappointed that The Rock was a little too late. But on the flip side, it really made his entrance memorable.
Rated R Army: A good promo, with Edge rightfully pissed. I think he’ll keep his title tonight.
Triple Threat: By far, this one is MOTN this far into the PPV. We’ll see if SD can top it, but I doubt it. I didn’t like the Rated R Army running in, and I thought there were a bit too many Sweet Chin Musics. But with those two faults, these three still managed to put on one hell of a title match. MOTN. And DX stays together. I guessed it right!
McMahon Promo: I didn’t really care for this…until Vince had a revelation. Oh my God! Trips is going to Smackdown!
Main Event: Wow. I have to say it didn’t top the Raw Main Event, but it was great, nonetheless. I really enjoyed it, and Batista was used well. I thought the end came too quickly, but that’s forgivable. Awesome match…with a big heel turn. It’s kind of common to see Batista as a heel in BTBs, but still neat to see.
Realism: Spot on. Everything was done in the most believable way possible. Even The Rock’s return was handled as if it really happened.
Length: Also, spot on. It took me a while to read it, and I feel like I just sat through a three hour Pay per View. Way to go.
Quality/Entertainment: I was entertained very well. With some big shockers and great matches (as well as funny bits) this was a great show all around. Some matches (women’s match, Rey match) didn’t keep my interest, so you lose a few points.
Spelling/Grammar: There were a couple issues here and there. You used the wrong name or something, but nothing which detracted from the overall experience.
Matches/Booking: Like I said earlier, certain matches weren’t the best, but that’s to be expected. You made up for it with the main events.
