Raw Thoughts
Really looking forward to this edition of Raw because it will be the last appearance of ‘Stone Cold.’ Good way to add the Intercontinental and Women’s Championship to Backlash by making it an intergender tag team match. I like the whole storyline with Haas and this powerful faction; he could help them at Backlash. Glad to see AMW come out and talk because they have been greatly over-shadowed in the past few weeks. No Foley was kind of a disappointment but I was glad AMW got the upper hand and this could just be building Foley’s feud with Umaga for the summer. The showdown in the ring between Angle and Austin tonight is going to be crazy. Glad to see The Redneck Wrecking Crew pick up the win over the Spirit Squad members that nobody cares about. Good stuff from Orton about Doane but I feel that Ken should put up a good fight tonight. Typical Orton putting down Edge but The Rated R Superstar seems to have the advantage and that could lead to his team winning at Backlash. MVP beating Eugene was a given but I was surprised to see MVP have Luther Reigns as his enforcer so soon. No surprise to see Hacksaw come down but Reigns and MVP dominate him as well. With Reigns and MVP together, Montel should be on a meteoric rise in this thread, something that I would LOVE to see. Good stuff from Cade & Murdoch and I see them getting a title shot within the next month or two, they deserve it. Great stuff from JBL, as always, and I see him and Mickie not coexisting at all at Backlash as Carlito and Victoria have all of the momentum heading into this Sunday. Good semi-main event to get these two great feuds over. I think that Umaga picking up the win for his team means that AMW will retain on Sunday, but that is just my opinion. Van Dam getting one up on HBK after the match was good and I really hope this feud continues past Backlash, as Van Dam is main event material, imo. Good hype from Edge, Doane, and Nitro but I am kind of concerned that either Melina or Nitro will be turning heel again after that little talk they just had. Gail Kim beating Trish was shocking and I think this is going to lead to Trish leaving this thread. You have so many great women’s wrestlers that it may be time for Trish to leave Raw. Angle is still looking for Austin, adding even more hype to Austin’s final appearance later. Not shocked to see Doane almost pick up the win but Orton is able to get DQ’ed. Shocked to see Nitro and Melina leave together and Edge and Doane don’t look to be in good shape now after that vicious attack. Didn’t expect to see Angle and Orton have a staredown but this could be a preview for a future WWE Championship feud, imo. The showdown beaten Austin and Angle was as intense as it gets! Good to see them brawl but nobody did anything too damaging, we can see that at Backlash. Glad to see Austin leave Raw in style with some great catchphrases and then a toast to the crowd. Overall, an excellent show to give Backlash some final hype, loved every minute of it, 10/10.

Smackdown Thoughts
Very different seeing The Hooligans open the show! Their match with Helms & Benjamin should be a great one at Backlash and good way to add some final hype with this showdown. King Booker and his King’s Court coming out was good to see and I am glad that Shelton stepped up and he will be facing Booker later tonight, in what should be a great match. Didn’t expect the match to be right away and I was very glad to see Benjamin pick up the win. The handshake and then the intense staredown was good because Helms & Benjamin still are not full-fledged faces, but that should be coming very soon. Good stuff from Flair as I really like him as Batista’s manager when they are both heels. Can’t wait to see Kennedy vs. Batista II at Backlash, should be a great match! Awkward moment here between Regal and Lashley before their tag team match tonight. I can see Regal leaving Lashley to Henry and Long tonight but then again I could be completely wrong, I guess we’ll just wait and see. Good promo from Daniels & Danger with the Chavo Guerrero video package that gets Mysterio pissed off. Mysterio will be winning on Sunday and this was just a little something to get Daniels some more heat before their big match. Glad to see Punk slowly rising on Smackdown and it was no surprise to see him beat Funaki, as Punk should be a US Title contender by the time SummerSlam rolls around. Kennedy guarantees victory as well, adding even more hype to this highly anticipated WrestleMania 23 rematch. Great stuff between Cena and The Rock. Rocky talking about Cena’s lack of respect for anyone was good and then Cena coming to the ring and talking about his accomplishments was also good entertainment. Surprised to see The Rock nail The Rock Bottom so quickly but I guess he is not waiting to show Cena that he can still go with the best of them. Kash talking to Punk was good and the comments between the two may lead to a match…next week hopefully? Not surprised to see Regal take a cheap shot at Lashley, allowing Henry to pick up the victory over the United States Champion. The Triple Threat match between the two at Backlash should be a good match, a match in which I don’t see Lashley losing the belt so soon after winning it. Sabin has really fallen after two losses to Jamie Noble. Hopefully we can see Chris get back on track soon as I think he is a great wrestler. Good way for the main event to end with Matt, then Jeff, and then Kennedy all hitting their finishers to put down The Miz. Batista’s vicious attack on The Miz was unexpected but it was also a great way to get Batista more heat for this Sunday and also a good way to get The Miz off of TV for a little while. I liked this edition of Smackdown because of all of the Backlash hype. This wasn’t quite as good as Raw and that’s the reason for the lower rating, 8.5/10.

FINAL Card for WWE Backlash:

World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Mr. Kennedy vs. ‘The Animal’ Batista w/Ric Flair II

Kennedy just won the title back at Mania. With that said, there's no way he's losing it that quickly. However I have a feeling that there will be one more match between the two, for the title.

“I Quit” Match; Unfinished Business:
‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin vs. ‘The Wrestling Machine’ Kurt Angle

I know this is the last match for Austin in this thread, but I see Angle winning the match in controversial fashion. Even though the match will be in recap form, I still expect that it will be a great match.

For The First Time Ever:
‘The Great One’ The Rock vs. ‘The Boss’ John Cena

Quite Honestly, the only way I see this match ending is by Rock winning via DQ, in a way that continues the feud, until Taker returns in this thread.

The Rated R Challenge; Six Man Tag Team Match:
‘The Legend Killer’ Randy Orton, Chris Masters and Joey Mercury vs.
‘The Rated R Superstar’ Edge w/Lita, Ken Doane and Johnny Nitro w/Melina

This match seems to be a given. I honestly can't see Edge losing to Orton, at back to back PPVs. With that said, Edge wins, and gets a title match against Orton at the next PPV in this thread.

Cruiserweight Championship Match; Title vs. Reinstatement:
Rey Mysterio vs. Christopher Daniels w/Allison Danger

Just like their match from Mania, I'm sure this is going to be an excellent match. I think Mysterio will win this match, with some type of rollup pinfall victory.

The Showstopper vs. The Whole Dam Show:
‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels vs. Rob Van Dam w/Bill Alfonso

With this being the only match announced to be written in full, I'm sure that this will be off the chain. However I see Van Dam winning this match in an upset, and continuing the feud with Michaels, over the next couple of months.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match:
The Hooligans vs. Shelton Benjamin & Gregory Helms

Unless you plan on continuing this feud, Helms and Benjamin should be winning the titles. Even if you're continuing the feud between the two teams, Helms and Benjamin should still win the titles. Right now in this thread, IMO, Benjamin and Helms is the best team, with or without the tag team titles.

Intercontinental & Women’s Championship; Intergender Tag Team Match:
©Carlito & Victoria vs. JBL & ©Mickie James w/Beth Phoenix

As much as it seems like Victoria might finally become the Women's Champion, it still looks like Mickie will be continuing her now 12 and a half month reign as champion. With that said, JBL finally becomes Intercontinental Champion.

United States Championship; Triple Threat Match:
Bobby Lashley vs. William Regal vs. Mark Henry w/Teddy Long

While Henry has been given Teddy Long as a manager, and a decent push, Lashley still wins this match, and remains the champion.

World Tag Team Championship Match:
America’s Most Wanted w/Gail Kim vs. Big Show & Umaga w/Heyman & AAE

I'll be shocked if AMW still remain the champions after Backlash. This is simply Show and Umaga's match to win.

Excellent card for Backlash, Mac. It's ashame that the whole PPV won't be in full, but the PPV should still be good. Drop me a PM, when the PPV is posted.

Raw Review
Announcing the JBL/Mickie vs. Carlito/Victoria in the opening segment was nice to see, something not done nowadays. The opening segment was great, with AMW using the entrance music of Foley to distract Show/Umaga and get the advantage. Angle backstage was another good segment, putting over strong the Austin/Angle feud. Spirit Squad still around? Nice to see, just a shame that they appear to be in jobber status. They could do so much more, at least Cade and Murdoch get more TV time and another victory. The Orton promo was decent, and typically Orton; arrogant and self-aggrandising. MVP versus Eugene just seemed pointless, as MVP gained nothing whilst Eugene just got destroyed, as did Duggan. The angle itself was good, just pointless as only Reigns gained something. Also, wouldn't Duggan be with Eugene to attempt to counter Reigns, Kelly, Layla and Brooke? It'll be interesting to see what impact Cade and Murdoch make. A triple threat tag match on the horizon? Smackdown rebound, as I said when reviewing the last show, is not something I'm a fan of. Great way of putting over the inter-gender tag feud, with Phoenix/Mickie a decent tandem and standing up to JBL. More angry Angle is good, in particular as it's not been over kill. The big six man tag would be a good match, but Fonzie in a BTB? To quote a famous tandem, "that reeks of awesomeness". More brawling in the tag feud, and a good idea with the Van Daminator after it looked certain RVD was doomed. The promo with Edge was good, but the whole dynamic of Nitro/Melina makes the situation even more interesting, with them possibly joining with Orton and co down the line. Trish losing to Gail is interesting, having now lost three times recently, but hopefully Trish won't become a forgotten diva. Another typically heel Angle skit, followed by another good match between Doane and Orton. No surprise to see Nitro and Melina leave Edge, just surprised it happened so early. Angle storming out, not waiting for Orton and co to leave the arena is a nice touch. Fantastic way to end the show, with Backlash looking like a strong pay per view.

Smackdown Review
The tag feud kicking off the show was nice to see, with the four up and comers getting some decent mic time. The new King's Court coming out is a good addition, and a Booker/Benjamin match a great way to kick off the show match wise. Benjamin over the Book is a great way to get him over, as its a huge scalp. The aftermath was more good booking, with the two teams (L&K and TCC) being very sportsman-like. Good way to put the Animal, Hardyz and Kennedy, and the Batista/Kennedy match should be a great headliner for Smackdown. Romero being around is nice to see, but doesn't Cole have the interviewing spot? The strange bedfellows like match for later in the night will be interesting, but Regal and Lashley would be one hell of a team. Brawls seem to be common place in these two reviews, so having Daniels/Danger bail was a nice touch, different. The whole situation is something not done too often, but you're pulling it off very well. Nothing of note really, except great to see Funaki, even if it just to job to Punk. Geez. How many commentators does one brand need? Raw has Grish, whilst Smackdown has Cole, Romero AND Matthews. Nothing much to mention, as it was so similar to the Flair/Batista interview earlier. Great segment with Rock and Cena, and their match should be good, but a long term feud should be something great. Just don't forget Undertaker. Punk versus Kash would be a decent feud, and a good feud to start Punk off with. Kash could make Punk look like a million dollars, whilst helping him get a higher profile at the same time, should be good. Nice ending to the match, with the devious Regal turning, or at least trying to, on Lashley. Hopefully Henry will get a strong push to at least the US title, if not the World title. Lashley-Regal-Henry, whilst not going to be a Meltzer five-star classic, should be good. Noble/Sabin getting another match is nice to see, and their feud is coming along nicely. Decent sounding match, and no surprise Miz, who doesn't really fit with anyone in the match, doing the job. Easily the best part of the two recaps is the ending to Smackdown, with Batista looking like a complete psycho, even pushing away Naitch.

Backlash looks very strong and should be a great pay per view.

DDMac's Raw Feedback

Interesting news with the mixed tag team match at Backlash. It feels a little bit like a desperate stretch to get both titles on the PPV, but I guess it also makes a change from simply having a plethora of WrestleMania rematches. However, when you say that both titles are on the line, do you mean that if Carlito/Victoria win then they BOTH get the titles, or just whoever makes the pin?

Kicking off with tag team title hype = awesome. I love it when a tag team division is actually getting the exposure it deserves, and you have been doing that with both of your shows of late. Haas not coming out means he will make an appearance at Backlash, I'm fairly sure of that, but I hope that that doesn't overshadow Foley's undounted interference. AMW get the upperhand here, but they have been on the back foot for so long it would be silly to have them job at the PPV.

I guess Angle will be getting the upperhand this week. I hope he kills a backstage worker More teams in the tag division can only be a good thing, and Cade and Murdoch are one of the more awesome pairings. Continue to push plz

Judging from the way you have been building Doane of late, I can see Orton having a bit of trouble with him tonight. Still, Randy's losing at Backlash, and he may well take the fall in the Six Man Tag.

Porters squashes Eugene in his debut? Superb. I love Reigns as his enforcer. Very Rick Rude/Tomko-esque, and it makes MVP into an even more credible star. Reigns snapping Duggans wood (shut up) was bad ass, and Montel laying the old guy out all but guarantees a tag match between the four men for next week. Porter is already awesome in this thread. Promos in full and IC title plz.

Great to see Cade and Murdoch continue to be pushed. They actually get to speak here Awesome. Judging from what Coach said about an impact, I guess we'll be seeing Cade and Murdoch assaulting AMW sometime in the near future.

JBL is amazing, regardless of what division he is in, and I love the idea of the uneasy tension between him and Mickie. Not too sure about him calling Beth a 'man'. She's amazingly hot in my opinion. Carly and Victoria clearing house would seem to suggest that we will be seeing a heel victory come Backlash. A new IC Champion?

Angle finally kills someome!!! Anyway, sounded like a nice six man tag, and after AMW got a brief advantage at the start of the show, 'Mags and Show are dominant once more. AMW simply have to go over at Backlash to avoid looking like jobbers really. The RVD/HBK situation is interesting to say the least, but if it ends at Backlash then it will have been the very definition of a filler program. Looks like Michaels is being set up to win this Sunday, but personally I would mark if Van Dam got it, purely for this feud to escalate.

Interesting situation with Edge, Doane and Nitro. I love the idea of your enemies enemy is my friend, which is what is happening here. The tension is great. I can definately see the disfunctional trio winning at Backlash, but the Nitro/Melina discussion was intriguing. I'm glad you are hinting at making Johnny a proper heel again, since that's where he belongs. Perhaps he will walk out on his teammates at the PPV?

Hmmm, I thought Trish was getting pushed back towards the Women's title level again, but I guess not. The comments hint at her being fazed out from now on. Angle beating up random people is still classic, but he should have destroyed the truck too imo.

Ha ha, I knew you wouldn't job Doane out like you did with Nitro a couple of weeks ago. You seem to mark for him. Doane sounded like a Main Event player here, but Orton got himself DQed, so he still looked strong. Nitro turning heel almost going into Backlash just makes things even better, and Orton, Masters and Mercury destroying Edge and co. confirms victory for the Rated R Army too.

I loved the little staredown between Orton and Angle, but I'm guessing it means nothing, as they are both TOP heels right now, and not changing for a long time. I had thought that Austin's last Raw appearance might be to simply cut a promo, but a vicious brawl like this suits his character well. I loved how Angle was heading towards J.R until Stone Cold came out, and the brawl did seem like a full on stalemate, although Austin's closing speech gives him the edge in my eyes. I hope this "I Quit" match is a submission affair; in which case I can see Austin breaking out the Sharpshooter to make Kurt give up.

DDMac's SmackDown! Feedback

More tag team hype!!! I love it. You really were speaking the truth when you said that you would be elevating the tag team titles above the U.S title. Despite London and Kendrick's flaws on the mic, I think this would have been okay, although I reckon Tazz is more suited to this type of this than Cole. I love the name Carolina Connection, so you have my approval Helms and Benjamin are awesome, but I really hope this feud lasts a long time. The New Kings Court just keeps them in the hunt - is Booker the full-time manager now? No real surprise to see Benjamin go over the King, as Book hasn't been booked as a strong roster guy for ages, and Shelton has been. I still think the Hooligans will sneak it this Sunday.

More hype for Naitch and Big Dave is great. I hope they pay Miz some more money in their match tonight, that was hilarious a couple of weeks ago.

There's no way Regal is turning face any time soon, so odds are he'll walk out on Bobby tonight. I just hope this isn't all to set up a Lashley/Henry feud Not really sure what to make of the Daniels/Mysterio segment. On one hand Daniels gets the momentum by trashing Chavo and getting into Rey's head, but on the other hand Rey does clear the FA from the ring. Odds are Rey Rey is still going over at Backlash and bringing Chavo back. Yay!

Check it out, CM Punk beating NAMED jobbers like Funaki now. He's on a roll. Bit of hype for Kennedy, but odds are he'll take a beating tonight ahead of his title defence this Sunday.

Like the Van Dam/HBK situation, this Cena/Rock feud screams filler program UNLESS it goes on for a while and gets some hype, promos etc. This kind of show down between the two was a nice touch, but it's still very much in its early phase, with Cena only saying Rock's in his way to getting the WHC. When it gets personal, it should be awesome I'm sure. Rock gets in a surprise Rock Bottom though, which leads me to believe that Cena will come out on top at Backlash. Personally I think Cena is going to get himself DQed, so that this feud can get a blow off match at the GAB.

I mark for Kash, so him getting actual feud is good. It's just a shame that it will end up being a squash feud to build Punk. Quality matches though.

Ha ha, I had a feeling that Regal wouldn't play ball with Lashley, and he costs the U.S Champ the win thanks to Henry. Nice addition to the Backlash card too with the Triple Threat. Unusual trio of wrestlers, but Teddy Long and Regal are entertaining as hell, and Lashley and Regal work well together. Lashley to retain though imo.

JAMIE NOBLE WINS OH MY GOD!!! Ha ha, even though it's based almost solely on matches, I am enjoying this little feud between Noble and Sabin, and it isn't just a squash feud like other Cruiserweight ones have been. These two guys look likely to enter the Cruiserweight title scene after Backlash though.

Great Main Event, but I have to say the Hardys are lacking a bit of direction at the moment. They needs a proper feud. I liked the little Twist Of Fate, Swanton, Kenton Bomb combination for the win, but the aftermath was ... sensational. Batista ... well, I think he literally just killed The Miz, and I know that everyone other than Szumi will be a happy bunny The reaction of Naitch did not go unnoticed either, hinting at a little bit of fear towards The Animal from Flair. I hope Naitch doesn't turn face any time soon, but this seemed to hint at that. Great display from Big Dave though, he's a bloody beast. I can see his match with Kennedy this Sunday getting SERIOUSLY violent, even though it's a singles match. Great ending.

Overall these were two fine recaps leading into a quality PPV. The HBK/RVD situation intrigues me, and I'm delighted to see that that match will be in full. The Orton/Edge situation now looks better with Nitro going heel again, and the Austin/Angle ... awesome. As for SD, the tag title feud continues to steal the damn show, although Batista pushed it close this week. Backlash should be immense

World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Mr. Kennedy vs. ‘The Animal’ Batista w/Ric Flair II

KK just won the strap, and Big Dave has dominated him since then.

“I Quit” Match; Unfinished Business:
‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin vs. ‘The Wrestling Machine’ Kurt Angle

It's Austin's last ever match, and a great tribute to his Hart feud that he never won.

For The First Time Ever:
‘The Great One’ The Rock vs. ‘The Boss’ John Cena

I actually think Cena might get DQed, but he'll definately come out stronger.

The Rated R Challenge; Six Man Tag Team Match:
‘The Legend Killer’ Randy Orton, Chris Masters and Joey Mercury vs.
‘The Rated R Superstar’ Edge w/Lita, Ken Doane and Johnny Nitro w/Melina
{If Edge’s team wins, Edge gets a WWE Title shot. If Orton’s team wins, Orton chooses his own challenger for the title.}

Edge is getting a title shot. Clearly. Nitro walks out though.

---

Cruiserweight Championship Match; Title vs. Reinstatement:
Rey Mysterio vs. Christopher Daniels w/Allison Danger
{If Mysterio wins, Chavo Guerrero is reinstated to the WWE}

Like Kennedy, Rey has only just won the belt, and Chavo should be coming back.

The Showstopper vs. The Whole Dam Show:
‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels vs. Rob Van Dam w/Bill Alfonso

RVD has had the better of HBK these last few weeks. Hope I'm wrong though.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match:
The Hooligans vs. Shelton Benjamin & Gregory Helms

This feud MUST continue.

Intercontinental & Women’s Championship; Intergender Tag Team Match:
©Carlito & Victoria vs. JBL & ©Mickie James w/Beth Phoenix

Mickie isn't dropping, and Carlito has pretty much dominated JBL.

United States Championship; Triple Threat Match:
Bobby Lashley vs. William Regal vs. Mark Henry w/Teddy Long

Only just won the title, and he keeps getting beat down.

World Tag Team Championship Match:
America’s Most Wanted w/Gail Kim vs. Big Show & Umaga w/Heyman & AAE

'Mags and Show have owned AMW so far, but I see Harris and Storm pulling off a miracle thanks to Foley or Haas.

Default Re: WWE 2007 & Beyond by DDMac

Despite not personally booking for a while, I have been following this thread to a certain degree. That being said, here's my horrendously inaccurate predictions

FINAL Card for WWE Backlash:

World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Mr. Kennedy vs. ‘The Animal’ Batista w/Ric Flair II
New Champ always retains in his first PPCV defence, you're a Kennedy mark, and Batista has just come off a hell of a long run as the top dawg. All sings point to a KK win, imo.

“I Quit” Match; Unfinished Business:
‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin vs. ‘The Wrestling Machine’ Kurt Angle
Stone Cold's final match (I think that's the storyline you have been building?), and what better way to go out then to defeat the man who only a month ago, defeated Austin at Mania. I expect this to be brutal, emotional, and down right kick ass.

For The First Time Ever:
‘The Great One’ The Rock vs. ‘The Boss’ John Cena
Cena gets the big win over The Rock (although I expect there to be controversy involved), which gives Rocky further motivation to go after Cena, and eventually, give the fans a feel good win at the next PPV.

The Rated R Challenge; Six Man Tag Team Match:
‘The Legend Killer’ Randy Orton, Chris Masters and Joey Mercury vs.
‘The Rated R Superstar’ Edge w/Lita, Ken Doane and Johnny Nitro w/Melina
Edge wins, despite Nitro trying to fuck him over me thinks. I was tempted to go for Orton and his cronies in this one (due to the fact every single person has chosen Team Edge to pick up the win), but as previously stated by th majority, Edge basically has to win to continue this feud. Should be a great match.

Cruiserweight Championship Match; Title vs. Reinstatement:
Rey Mysterio vs. Christopher Daniels w/Allison Danger
Rey Rey retains his newly won belt and downs Daniels, in turn, allowing Chavo Guerrero to return. I feel the face will get a win here to put the cocky Daniels back a peg, but I expect to see the Fallen Angel knock off Mysterio soon, probs at Judgement Day tbh.

The Showstopper vs. The Whole Dam Show:
‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels vs. Rob Van Dam w/Bill Alfonso
RVD ftw, nuff said!

WWE Tag Team Championship Match:
The Hooligans vs. Shelton Benjamin & Gregory Helms
Need a title change on the PPV tbh, and if it is going to be anyone, who better than the Carolina Connection!

Intercontinental & Women’s Championship; Intergender Tag Team Match:
©Carlito & Victoria vs. JBL & ©Mickie James w/Beth Phoenix
Easier enough to predict one feels; you love Mickie, she retains; JBL has been pretty much owned by Carlito in the fued, he wins. This should be another decent encounter.

United States Championship; Triple Threat Match:
Bobby Lashley vs. William Regal vs. Mark Henry w/Teddy Long
Lashley will probs retain the belt, having just won it, but I loved Regal as US Champ, and am pulling for him to win it again.

World Tag Team Championship Match:
America’s Most Wanted w/Gail Kim vs. Big Show & Umaga w/Heyman & AAE
Big Bad heels dominate the match, win the belts, and put the entire tag team division on notice. Hopefully Haas reveals his decision as well.

Looks set to be a killer PPV, best of luck with it.
