Re: WCW 2001- The Trio Ownership
The continued feeling with sponsors backing out of deals very much strikes me as 'rats jumping off a sinking ship'. It's refreshing that you're highlighting the problems of the company; in comparison to new companies that prosper off the bat. The loss of no computer game deal has also been turned into a major blow to the company - as it should be.
And given the extremely strained relationship between Flair and Bischoff over the phone, WCW right now needs either a third backer to play peacekeeper between the two sides, or a mystery saviour to buy both men out, and someone with strong links to run a successful company in terms of sponsorship, game distribution etc. And, more importantly, someone to push the flagging company back into the battle with the WWF.
Right now, this is where I see this heading. Flair and Bischoff cannot co-exist (and I hate Flair for promising Jeff 'SUCKS' Jarrett a title reign. He deserves a rusty nail to the eye for that tbh, not a right hand) for much longer if WCW is to survive. One, or both, will eventually wash their hands of the company, leaving a new backer, someone with financial clout and strong links to potential sponsors to take WCW onto the next level.
The backstage politics continues to cast a dark shadow over a company that currently is beginning to shine on-screen, and prosper. Hopefully there is a rainbow to come at the end of this cloud...
