Re: WCW 2001- The Trio Ownership
May 28, 2001-Hotel Conference Room, Charlotte, North Carolina- 2:00PM
Eric Bischoff, Ric Flair, and Steve Borden are standing at the head of the conference room at the Charlotte Marriot Hotel, the hotel that all of the WCW wrestlers were staying at for Slamboree. The three owners called a press conference with all of the talent for 2 to inform them all about the cancellation of Nitro, and to announce the future plans of World Championship Wrestling.
Eric Bischoff: Alright guys, thanks for being able to arrive on such short notice.
Steve Borden: Now as you all know, Nitro was scheduled to take place tonight in Raleigh, however, that will not be happening.
Ric Flair: As most of you have probably heard by now, the USA Network have randomly and quite surprisingly cancelled Nitro after just three shows.
The room immediately erupts into conversation amongst the talent. Some speak in fear, some in anger. The talent all has different takes on this huge news. Some of the talent is in fear for their job security and the promotion’s. Some guys are pissed about WCW’ inability to be a success, and want to leave the promotion. But a few of the wrestlers are willing to work harder to make the company work.
Borden: Now guys, I know you are all shocked about this, but come on, we have to stay positive.
The wrestlers start to silence after Borden’s statement. Well, most do. One however, stands up to his feet in disgust. That man is Bill Goldberg.
Bill Goldberg: Stay positive? You want us to fucking stay positive about this sinking ship? WCW is a fucking hell hole, and can’t succeed!
Bischoff: Hey Goldberg, what the fuck were you thinking!? Did you just think that since WCW got a TV deal again we’d be the number one promotion overnight!?
Flair: World Championship Wrestling is not a fucking sinking ship anymore! WCW was seconds away from sinking before we bought this company! Bill, if it wasn’t for me, Stinger, and Eric, you’d be out of a job!
Borden: We’re mortal men, Bill, we can’t just make WCW the number one promotion over night. You and I both know that. We all have to work together and put in all of our effort is we want to become a serious threat to the WWF.
Goldberg: No, Steve, no. We don’t need to work together! I don’t need to do shit! I am a fucking star, and the best damn thing in this company! This company is a joke, and I refuse to be a part of it any longer! I’m not going to be held down by old timers like you two, Ric and Steve. I’m a real star; I’m heading up north!
Goldberg starts to head towards the exit.
Flair: Good, then get the fuck out of here! This company doesn’t need an over-priced, overrated, no talent, piece of shit like you!
Goldberg arrives at the door, and turns to face the owners.
Goldberg: Fuck this company, and fuck each and every one of you!
Goldberg opens the door, leaves, and then slams it shut. Bischoff yells out to Goldberg on his way out-
Bischoff: I fucking made you, Bill! You ain’t shit!
The room is filled with silence. Most of the talent can’t believe what just happened; Bill Goldberg has walked out of WCW. Finally, after a couple moments of silence, Steve Borden speaks.
Borden: Now look, guys. This company was in the tank when we purchased it from Turner. We all together are going to have to work extremely hard to build up the company’s prestige, and be looked at as a global powerhouse. Right now, we just need to get away for a little while, and try and work out a new television deal with another network.
Flair: Yeah guys, Steve is right. I think all of us, including Steve, Eric, and myself, have been worrying about getting back to being competition with Vince McMahon. And you know what I say to that? Fuck it. Fuck Vince McMahon. Fuck the WWF. Fuck the competition. We are World Championship Wrestling; not the competition of the World Wrestling Federation. We have to start working together to be our own promotion, and not worrying about the other companies in the wrestling industry.
Bischoff: And that is why, effective immediately, World Championship Wrestling is going on hiatus.
Borden: We’re going to be hibernating, if you will, until a new television deal is made. You all may work independent shows if you desire to keep active in the ring, but once a deal is made, you work for WCW, and only WCW.
Flair: Times are tough for this company right now, but WCW will stay loyal to you. We will not fire any of you to try and save money, so we ask you stay loyal to us. If you want to be a traitor like Goldberg and leave the company, then walk. But just remember, this company helped make you what you are today, and this company will stay loyal to you.
Bischoff: And on that note, this meeting is adjourned. Good afternoon, gentleman.
OOC: The voting was tied at A and B on the two forums this is posted at, so I decided to choose A. But yeah, the company right now is in mass chaos with the loss of Nitro, and that is just proven by Goldberg walking out of the company. However, as you will find out later, there is still a nother blow or two to come.
