Nitro Review

Like how you described the set and whatnot, sounds just how the nWo would set up their show. Funny stuff from Henning and I loved how Tenay was called a jobber. Didn’t get the Home Shopping Network joke, kind of went over my head…sorry.

Very awesome opening promo with the nWo making their presence felt as it is now their show. Bischoff was gold on the mic as always and you even made Scott Hall easy to listen to. Kevin Nash explaining his huge plan was awesome and you really planned this whole angle out perfectly. I didn’t get why he winked into the camera, to be honest. Jarrett talking about beating Booker was good and Jarrett is probably not getting enough attention inside the nWo even though he is World Champion. I can see Hogan coming for the belt very soon. Arn Anderson coming out was a good change because I thought we’d see Booker for sure. Arn Anderson is his usual old school self, talking about WCW and the members of the nWo while the guys in the ring think he is a joke. Huge match between Bischoff and Arn with Arn getting fired if he loses. Makes for great drama, imo.

Awesome to see the cruiserweights kick off the show and I really think that they are the backbone of WCW. No doubt that the Filthy Animals were going to win this match as they have just reunited and you need to get the team over. Very good finish with the shooting star for the win, with the group hug after the match. Next tag team champions??

Very nice little segment with the entire WCW roster, minus a few guys, making plans to unite against the nWo and try to get WCW on top. I don’t see this working tonight but I do see WCW coming back soon enough. What will Arn have in mind for fighting the nWo?

Not much to say about Helms vs. Crowbar, classic Shane Helms victory. With Super Crazy gone, Helms needs a new challenger and I really hope on of the Filthy Animals gets the job done. Need another great CW Title feud, imo.

Very nice little promo from Helms and I loved the constant shots at Super Crazy. Super Beaner = Rating, imo. Helms seems to be getting too cocky and I think he will lose the belt very soon.

Very harsh punishment from Bischoff about anyone interfering against the nWo and I think something funny is going down in the main event.

Third match between Morris and The Wall sounded horrible so I won’t really say much. I hope we see one decent match tonight because all of them, except the first match, have not been all that great. Commentary and promos have been gold though!!

Oh how I love these Steiner interviews. Perfectly in character and my favorite line I ever read from you had to be when Steiner called Sting an ‘emo bitch.’ Classic. Steiner is going to get a World Title shot eventually but I don’t see a heel vs. heel main event for the next PPV. Very interested to see how things in the World Title scene turn out and all I know is Steiner deserves a shot and he will get it, imo.

Good to see Storm and Konnan going into tag team action together. Very big stuff from Larry? I’m intrigued so I should probably keep reading…

Pretty obvious who was going to win the tag team match, as you alluded to during the match recap. Maybe WCW will get one over on the nWo tonight but I doubt it. Konnan is good in the ring and I hope Storm gets a rematch with Awesome but with Bischoff running the show, I doubt it. Commentary after the match was classic as it has been all show, with Curt again messing up Tenay’s name.

Bischoff in black martial arts ropes is always awesome. He is making it seem like this will be a real match.

WCW comes out on the stage?!?! Arn is retired?!?! Please make the show end better than this!!

I really thought Arn was going to get fired but it is great that Bischoff doesn’t have the authority to fire him! I little too legal for most fans but I love that Bischoff broke the rules of the contract and he is no longer WCW President. FLAIR IS THE NEW WCW PRESIDENT!! AWESOME!! So glad to see that Flair didn’t just go away and now he has the perfect on-screen role. Great announcement that Jarrett will be defending the belt next week without the nWo members at ringside. Would have loved to see Booker vs. Jarrett II but the triple threat sounds awesome. Booker vs. Jarrett II should be saved for PPV anyway. Very awesome way to end the night and WCW is back to fighting in the war against the nWo.

Very good show overall as the matches weren’t really amazing but the great opening and closing promos made the show good. I can’t wait for the main event next week and I know you will make it a match to remember. 8.5/10.

Spanks ever so much for the feedback on Starrcade Pedo, Para, and Pops. You're love for me always makes me giddy.

There was something I was going to comment on Wolfy, but I forget what and where it was. All I remember is that you had a question and... oh! I remember! Cal Anderson is C.W. Anderson of ECW fame. He's Arn's "nephew". Mmhmm.

Oh, and I'll wait until more Nitro comments (if any, of course) come before I speak a little bit about the goings on. Expect another roster update at the end of 2001 (which is just after the next show), as well as some notes and everything. A nice lengthy year-end update. I may do some Awards too. All depends on how much I care.

IC ftw.

LMAO @ the "pops" shot at Wolfy too. Although in reality, I'm daddy to both of you. Tis true.

Starrcade was the sex. Nitro review maybe soon, maybe never. Hey, honesty and all.

Szumi, I hope you're not leading to a split of the company between the nWo and WCW ala WWE 2002 style? In a way, it could make sense since Sting is now out of the way and the thread has basically become WCW: The Dual Ownership. Anyway, I love how the whole nWo vs. WCW storyline is panning out and although the nWo are barred from ringside, I still see Jarrett retaining the WCW Championship next week. Good to see Ric Flair back as W-C-WOOO!-W President, and I think the Naitch will continue to "lead the battle" against the nWo. I can see a Flair/Bischoff match down the line, with Flair making Bischoff tap out. I'll be reading...

WCW Wednesday Nitro Preview- December 26, 2001

World Championship Wrestling will host its final primetime edition of Wednesday Nitro this year – 2001 – on NBC this Wednesday night at 8 PM EST! WCW will end 2001 – a year of many highs and lows – live from the Lumpkin Center, in Columbus, Georgia! “The Professor” Mike Tenay will be calling the shots for another two-hour, action packed edition of World Championship Wrestling, so be sure to tune in for this monumental event!

The New World Order invaded and took over World Championship Wrestling after Starrcade, but their take over was short lived! Just as Eric Bischoff was ready to fire ‘The Enforcer’ Arn Anderson – as well as ‘The Living Legend’ Larry Zbyszko – a bombshell was dropped on the world of professional wrestling: after an investigation was presented to the board of directors, Eric Bischoff was no longer the WCW President! Bischoff broke a clause in his Presidential contract that disallowed him from being contracted to any other organization, a clause broken by Bischoff when he signed an official nWo contract, a feat that the entire New World Order clique has done. However, the bombshell only got bigger as the new WCW President was revealed: the man who launched the investigation against Eric Bischoff, the man screwed out of his career and legacy at Starrcade, 14-time World Heavyweight Champion, ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair!

With Ric Flair as the new WCW President, his first executive order was declared almost immediately, and it’s an order that is making this Wednesday Nitro the most epic show yet! WCW World Heavyweight Champion, ‘The Chosen One’ Jeff Jarrett, will be forced to defend the World Heavyweight Title against two of his biggest arch rivals: the man who he defeated (with incredible amounts of help from the nWo) at Starrcade, Booker T, and Jarrett’s former nWo running-mate, the man Bischoff has attempted to stay away from Jarrett and his Title, ‘Big Poppa Pump’ Scott Steiner! But just when it seemed this match couldn’t get bigger, Ric Flair barred all New World Order members from ringside! There will be no tainted interference for Jeff Jarrett on Wednesday Nitro, and The Chosen One will be forced to grapple with the two men who hate him most, with wrestling’s most coveted prize on the line! Fans, there is no better way to end a year than this!

Also on Wednesday Nitro, the former WCW United States Champion Hugh Morris will take on Buff ‘The Stuff’ Bagwell! After successfully defeating The Wall last week in making a stand against the New World Order, Morris will step into the ring to represent the values of World Championship Wrestling again! Plus, with Ric Flair starting his first full Wednesday Nitro as President, one can only guess as to what matches the new President will have in store for the fans of WCW! Wednesday Nitro promises to be an exciting showcase of professional wrestling that you do not want to miss, so be sure to tune into NBC this Wednesday night at 8 PM EST to catch all the action! The year 2001 is ending, and World Championship Wrestling is sending it off in style – with the start of the Flair Presidency Era!

Confirmed Matches:
WCW/nWo World Heavyweight Championship – Jeff Jarrett © vs. Booker T vs. Scott Steiner
Buff Bagwell vs. Hugh Morris

Expect the show up this weekend. I expect it to be pretty good. Like I said, I'm still convinced that 4 post-Starrcade Nitro's are epic material. Also, expect a big End of the Year Update after this 12-26 Nitro, and another backstage segment too.

Oh, and I said WCW/nWo World Heavyweight Title under the confirmed matches just for the hell of it. Technically, it is just WCW, but I added in the /nWo since Jarrett is the Champ, an nWo contracted member, and calls himself the nWo World Heavyweight Champion. True story.

Looks good Szumi. I look forward to it. Buff Bagwell v Hugh Morris makes me sad but the World Heavyweight Title match should be a good one.

Steiner ftw.

Meh for Bagwell/Morris.

But the triple threat match is gonna be awesome. Just sense something MAJOR going down. Looks like a nukkahriffic show tbh. Will be reading.

STARRCADE Comments

Forgive the lateness of my reply...

So anyways, I'm not going to analyse each segment in-depth as I feel you, nor myself are going to get any further with that. Instead I'll just give you some of the things i enjoyed and liked and some I enjoyed to a lesser extent.

The opening match was immediately sex. It was a fast-paced and sometimes violent match, which I overly enjoyed. I loved Kidman winning and I never saw it coming, tbh. I really believe Rey was gonna be the last man standing, but Kidman(one of my favourites IRL) winning was definitely a great moment. The aftermath of course was awesome with The Filthy Animals rejoining and even getting a new member, in Chavito. I love Chavito. So yea, this stable should win the tag titles or something pretty soon, rit?

I'm not gonna talk a lot about the tag match, other than saying: thank you, booker man, for making Jindrak score the fall. I like Jindrak and this may be a sign that you have some plans for him, although I doubt it, seeing as you claimend numerous times the kid has no charisma whatsoever. I can hope though.

Ouch. Poor Crazy. He's out of comission(sp?) for a long time after this for sure. And rightfully so, imo. Helms is the man and should keep that belt for a long long time to come. The match itself was great though and yet again fast-paced. Call me a spotmonkeylover, but I love my matches fast and with plenty of spots. Thank you very much.

Okay, so I told you in the pm that I didn't entirely followed the match-up near the end, as both men had went through a table alread, without the match ending. You explained it to me then, I checked, and I finally understood what the hell was going on. Seriously, sorry bout that. Tsucks that Storm had to lose though and this was already a sign of WCW slowly crumbling. At the moment I read the finish of this match and Awesome winning, I knew WCW was gonna lose that the end as well. Doesn't mean this match wasn't good though, as it was, but I don't like Storm losing. Lol at the suicide comment though. Dunno why, but it totally fit in there. I just love the way you put your cynical comments throughout the commentary, promos and matches. It really adds spice to everything at it makes me chuckle almost every time. Don't stop doing it plz.

The Retirement match was easily match of the night for me. You could just read the intensity, the passion, etc etc throughout the match and for that, I have to say kudos to you. Never expected Scott Hall to be the one to run in and save Hogan's day though. But he makes sure Hogan wins and Flair loses. Ouch. WCW is hurting and it's hurting bad at this point. Hall rejoins nWo and that alone is a great Starrcade-moment, but the fact Flair loses could perhaps be an even bigger moment! I wonder if he's done with WCW now or if you'll have him pick up some backstage role. Only time will tell, I guess.

Lol at Schiavone leaving Bisch's stinkin' company. Good riddens.I wonder who'll replace him at Nitro though and I hope it isn't Gene Okerlund. Have a heel sitting there, someone like the Brain or something. Just a suggestion though, but I love reading the interactions between heel and face commentators.

And another blow to WCW. Sting gets murdered by Steiner here and by his lead pipe. Sting won't be back in a long time, me thinks, after numerous blows from that lead pipe. Great job on writing out how he got helped to the back by EMT's and all. Really added some realism to the situation and made everyone think Sting was legitimately out of comission. This was a great but rather short bout. That is probably my only remark. The match could've gone for a little longer perhaps, but maybe you wanted the main event to last as long as possible. Probably.

Yea, after that interview with Book and Nash, it was obvious Nash was gonna turn on Booker T. The smirk, the dubious remarks, etc. Nash and Hall together again in nWo? Of course, I realized that after this interview.

Terrific Main Event, booking wise. Really, saw hardly any flaws. All the nWo guys came out as expected and attacked Booker T, but Booker T fought them off impressively. Jarrett looked like a total bitch most of the time though, with Booker dominating most of the match-up. Yea, sorrry, but I really hate Jarrett and I would legitimately try and hurl my cup of beer(FULL) at Jarrett's face at the end of the night, no doubt. So anyway, there is Nash and I loved how he tried to "help" Booker instantly and then just smacked Book in the face with the guitar. Loved that moment. Jarrett retains and nWo WITH HALL AND NASH(mark out moment) stand tall. nWo are taking over and this can't be good for WCW. I'm really really intrigued to read on now and with your Nitro after Starrcade already up, that'll be easy to do as I just have to read on. So yea, booking wise this main event was the shit and one of the best booked matches I've read in a long time. Good job on that. One thing though, the referees are being slaughtered here tonight. I think a referee went down on three or four diffrent occassions tonight. Lol, they're so fragile. Could've tried other ways to get the respective superstars to cheat, but I guess taking out the refs was an easy and effective way to do so.

Overall this Pay Per View was without a doubt the best PPV I've read in a very long time, maybe even ever. Yea, really, I'm not trying to kiss your ass or anything but the booking on this PPV was terrific. nWo completely dominated the PPV and looking at all the men involved in that Faction, that was the only right thing to do. WCW could never win this war and they didn't. Now I'm very eager to read on and don't you worry, I'll have a review up for Nitro within a few days. Good job on Starrcade, great job on Starrcade, fantastic job on Starrcade. I bid you a good day, sir!

Screw the double post imo.

Nitro comments

Yes! Hennig at commentary = ratings and he shone throughout the night(bar at the absolute end). He was great at commentary and interacted with Tenay well. And this is exactly what I hoped for after Schiavone left, so yea, lovin it.

Opening promo was solid, with nWo putting itself over, but picked up when the enforcer showed up. At this point, it felt as though WCW could never ever win the war though, with only Arn, Cal and Lance Storm as the "soldiers for WCW".

The first match was only there putting the Filthy Animals version 2.0 over here, which was to be expected. Surprises Kidman scored the fall though, you seem to care for him after all.

Pretty nifty segment next, with the WCW army "forming" sort of speak. Still, it's a bunch of jobber united though(apart from a select few) and at this point it still felt to me as though WCW was a lost cause.

Helms destroys crowbar next. I looked stome stuff from Crowbar up, and LOL at that charachter. Good thing Helms burried him, and he's right afterwards, he's the greatest champion ever...wel cruiserweight champion.

The next two matches were non-important in my view. Some WCW patriots defeating some random jobbers only to give the audience a glanse of hope that WCW could possibly fight nWo.

I'm skipping right to the end now, because well, that was sheer classic. Amazing twist in the story, brilliant booking and creative thinking, and just overall a joy to read. Bisch thinks he has it all won and can fire a bunch of people right on the spot, but there is Zbysko announcing that...THE NAITCH IS THE NEW PRESIDENT OF WCW! Now this was truly a twist in the story that I had never ever suspected and so I say, great job, booker man, for making such a terrific plot twist. You had it all in this promo, the intensity, the cockiness, the video packages (!~), etc etc...it was just so well thought out and executed, I have to say it might be (story wise) one of the best promos I've ever encountered. Now from this point on, I can't possibly predict what will happen, but business will already be picking up next show when Steiner and the Bookman take on Jarrett for his title. And I hope to god Jarrett loses, I really do, cause well, you already know I hate that guy.

And a small side note, I hope that somewhere down the line, Steiner joins the WCW army, that would be the sex.

Anyways, that's about it. I'm looking forward to the next show and hope the story continues as interesting as it has this show.
