Szumi’s Nitro Feedback.

This is one of the very few, and I mean few, threads that doesn’t seem like a total chore for me to read at the moment. You and only three or four others are currently enthralling me enough to make me look forward to the next show. So this better not disappoint or else.

I absolutely love that you’re starting off the show with a match like this, purely because it gives four (I think it’s fair to say) lower mid-card wrestlers the chance to get some solid exposure as well as giving some good hype for the CW Title match at Starrcade. Lol @ Crazy squinting like “el retardo”. That made me giggle. This would’ve been a good match to really light up the crowd and your recap was quite good. You booked it well for all parties concerned. I was wondering how you’d end it because I know you don’t want to have Crazy or Helms look weak and it seems your quite high on the Harts as well. I think you definitely made the smartest decision in terms of the ending. Helms obviously looks very strong but Crazy isn’t to damaged by the result since he can’t do to much about a three on one numbers game. I was particularly glad to see that Crazy didn’t pull a superman and beat down the Harts on his own only to get the fuck beaten out of him by Helms in the aftermath. Speaking of which, the chair shot was no surprise really. Helms looks a million bucks right now, you’ve given the CW title feud some awesome exposure and hype and you’ve made this rivalry even more personal. Great start. Well booked.

I’m not to sure why by there’s something about your shows that actually made me want to read every bit, even the commentary (just for the rips on Tony) which I usually can’t do. I think it’s because I know your presentation isn’t going to be something that reeks of generic WWE booking.

Nice promo from Flair. Short and sweet, you really portrayed his character very well. You put over just how much victory means to him, his intensity and passion were the two obvious highlights of this promo. I don’t think he’ll win tonight, I think he’ll be the victim of a big beat down from Nash because I think Big Sexy will be the new retiree come Starrcade. Sweet promo. I’m glad that it wasn’t too long. There’s a heap of people in BTB that think to have a good promo it has to be fucking long, but I don’t think that’s true at all and you’ve backed up my thinking with a promo such as this.

You surprised me here. This was a really solid match and again it was very well booked but that’s not why I was surprised. The fact that you booked the finish to involve Cal Anderson and Hennig and not either of the other two was a shock. I thought you’d definitely have one of Storm or Awesome pick up the victory and look to build more momentum. Having said that the Corkscrew dive to the outside was a good way to occupy them both. Another post-match beat down? I definitely could’ve done without that in back to back matches but I understand that it adds to the build towards the North American Title match at Starrcade but even still I don’t like it happening straight after a match where a similar beat down occurred. None the less, after this it seems that Lance will retain at Starrcade. Not sure how he’ll do it, but following what we’ve just seen I think he will.

Rey as a heel is a disaster. If I was sitting in the crowd none of what he said would’ve made me want to boo him to be honest. None the less this was still an good segment. It wasn’t all to enthralling, probably because of those involved but it still got the point across with once again just how personal this rivalry is and obviously with a huge announcement. Btw lol @ the call about Kidman having no charisma. Your honesty always makes me laugh. Anyway, solid promo Szum Szum, Kidman’s last line was deep. Real deep. I think it could well lead towards a face turn for Rey at Starrcade.

Kinda bland promo from the Young Lions but at least it gives the tag titles match some solid exposure, so that’s the main thing. Lol @ Chucks fuck up. Another beat down? Jesus. Probably a bit of overkill now man, tbh. Still good hype for the match, but even though this match really feels like a filler more than anything. I’ll be interested to see how much time you give it.

I’m quite enjoying the minimal commentary on this show, as well as the fac that you’re constantly reminding us that Schiavone isn’t talking

Nice promo from Booker. It hypes his drive to beat Jarrett as well as the feud between the two and the match later on. Basic stuff but still smart booking.

Lol. Very creative ending to this match. You booked this one well for the entirety. Both Nash and Flair look strong and they both had their major qualities showcased nicely. Your booking here really does wonders for Hogan’s character, it establishes him as the completely egotistical asshole that he is both in fact and fiction. Hogan comes out of this looking the strongest but I don’t think neither Flair or Nash look weaker than the other heading into the match. They all look very credible and all look as if they could win. It won’t be Nash, though.

Lol @ Tony and the Starrcade hype.

I absolutely loved the way this promo started out as well as the way you portrayed Steiner. You put him over to be a real bad ass motherfucker that won’t take shit from anyone. I like that. Sting trying to rope in Steiner is interesting and i think it pertains to Sting’s character very well but I don’t think anything more will come of the proposal. I didn’t like the brawl at the end, it seems kinda unnecessary because we’ve seen so many on the show tonight. Once again you’ve done very well at hyping this match tonight but while it has the star power I feel it just lacks a little bit of big match feel about it. Pleased to see that there weren’t any Baseball bats smashed over Steiners sternum on this episode

Bischoff and Jarrett were good here. You did a great job at hyping both the title match and the triple threat match as well as simply having Jeff and Eric rave on about how great the New World Order is. You put over both guys characters pretty well but Jarrett annoys the fuck out of me so hopefully you get the belt off him and give it to Booker. I’d be very surprised if Jeff retains although it would be interesting to see what direction the thread would then take.

One thing I like about your recaps is that they’re long enough to get a feel for the match but they’re not that long so that they drag out on different paths to boredom. Booker was made to look like an absolute star during the match until the run ins arrived. The referee calling off the match before any interference even occurred was good too actually and once again and by this stage it’s kind of fitting to end the show, we have a brawl. And what a brawl. The brawl was a clusterfuck. But a clusterfuck with a bit of structure with the respective opponents pairing off with each other. Once again you did a brilliant job in hyping the Triple Threat and the Title match. I loved it. Nash stands tall at the end over Hogan and Flair, after seeing this I definitely think Nash will retire and I think Flair will win. Where as the Booker/Jarrett situation still isn’t that clear as to who’ll win. The tense stare down to end the show was fitting.

Overall, this was another good show. It all flowed nicely. Every segment had a purpose. Every segment hyped Starrcade in a way or another which is just great. I felt you had way to many brawls/beat downs for one show. I think two on the one show is a max. But still, just how important Starrcade is to everyone is clearly evident, hence all the brawling I guess. Your promos once again were all of the highest standard mate, so props for that. I’m definitely looking forward to Starrcade, it should be epic.

Wednesday Nitro Review

Remember, I am a HUGE WCW fan, and a wrestling historian in my own right. But, I HATED WCW by late 1999, up until it died. So hopefully, this can hold my attention. The advantage you have over WCW at the time, is that here in 2008, I’m a far more optimistic and mature person than I was 7-9 years ago.

Can’t deny the meh’ishness of the show being Wednesday Nitro. I’m sure you’ve got a perfectly fine explanation for why it’s been shifted to Wednesday, and I’m not questioning your creative reasoning. Just something I’ll have to get used to. Tony and Mike flowed very, very well on the mic. I for one – unlike many others – do pay attention commentary. And for a first time read, the commentary was superb. Sounds like we’re in for a great night, on this final build to Starrcade. Tag match is meh’ish in quality, but serves major purpose for storyline and entertainment. And I can’t help but feel that Hogan will end up putting himself over, despite being merely a referee. And Starrcade in the Georgia Dome = Gold.

Nice little match description for the first match. I can just imagine WCW taking an old WWF theme, and updating for a new superstar, or in this case team. No copyright infringement here. They did it with Perfects music, and now the Harts. Cute little name for the Harts too. Helms > all involved here tbh. Too bad they lost. At least he looks set to win the WCW Cruiserweight title. Over the top attention to a simple chair shot = WCW.

Decent enough Flair promo. A bit wordy tbh. Could’ve eliminated some excess dialogue, and got the same message across. It was decent though, no doubt. PLEASE don’t let Naitch lose at Starrcade! PLZ??? Nash = History! PLZ???

North American Championship = Meh. Why not the US Title? Just explain that one for me, without making me search the thread please.

I tend to think I know everything, but who in the hell is Cal Anderson? New Enforcer sounds like something WCW would have done, but I can’t say I really like it. No one will ever replace Arn. Decent enough tag match though. Liked the action throughout, and I like Henning and Awesome being members of the nWo. Too bad they lost, and Hennig being pinned by the new enforcer = (been waiting for this) YUK!! Oh well, no biggie I suppose. Glad the nWo boys beat them down afterwards. And Stacy Keibler + nWo = Ratings. Can’t believe Henning isn’t being booked higher here. I would’ve marked to step in the thread and see him as World Champ. A place he deserved, and never got. And to make it worse, he doesn’t even have a Starrcade match.

Billy Kidman came off pretty darn good on the mic, whilst Rey was meh at best. LOVE these two going at it in a LMS match at Starrcade though. Should be fantastic!

Despite the fact that I could literally care less about the four men, I understand that in the year 2001, they would have been fine prospects. And to be honest, I actually found the Young Lions short promo to be maybe the best of the night tbh. Not sure why, but it seemed to flow well. Then there was the attack, which was fine. Tag match at Starrcade should be good.

ROFLMAO @ Larry saying “Erm”. Good little dialogue from Booker, who is certainly geared for destroying Jarret. Larry better not screw up.

LOVE the fact that you got the exact right # of ‘New’s’ in the start of the nWo theme. Neat little way of writing it too. Hogan’s the ref, and this should be interesting for sure. Decent match for what it could be. LMAO @ 2 (aka 4 ½). And @ the leg drops … OF DOOM! Hogan creams both men, and proclaims himself the winner! Perfect end here really. Highly entertaining, realistic, and it leaves everything up in the air for Sunday. Loved it.

My god, you are so right about Tony’s statement about Starrcade. He always claimed that something was to be the “biggest in the history of our sport!”

Steiner promo was good. But four year olds don’t have enough to play mind games! Trust me, I have an advanced one living with me as we speak. When Sting came in, the promo remained strong, and this appears to be the best feud in this BTB at the moment. An awesome feud I would’ve enjoyed in real life, and one that is eclipsing the other action in this thread tbh. Brawl to end it was good, and realistic, but it seems like we get a brawl or run in after every match/promo. Which is WCW at this time period for sure. But let’s not forget that the type of booking you’ve been doing all night, is quite frankly, the type of booking that sent WCW into the toilet. And I can’t help but think that you’d shred another booker for booking in the same way.

Promo of the night – by far – comes from Jarrett and Eric. Nice stabs taken at all the non-nWo talent, primarily of course, BT. Although, I don’t think 22 inch rims had become the rage yet in 2001!

Main Event was a non-wrestling main event when it was booked, so none of the hoopla that occurred surprised me at all. The hoopla of WCW, in yet another scenario here tonight, honestly took away from this bout. However, if this is what it had to be, then so be it. The aftermath was what really mattered. 18 or so superstars out there, with the only true lines being drawn between WCW and nWo. The ending with Booker smashing the guitar on the mat, instead of Jarrett’s head, was truly great. Booker wants Double J, and he wants him 100% apparently. Only 4 more days before Booker wins the gold. Booker as WCW champ = Cool with the Naitch.

WCW doesn’t allow for anything more than this. So for realism, and all that, you get an A – 10/10. But honestly, I view what you have going on in this thread currently, as the element that ended WCW’s reign. Ended their fan base. Ended the company. I would love to see you change the company around, and have the “shenanigans” take a back seat. Obviously, in terms of writing, you are second to NONE. Ands of course, I’ll likely get heat for my perception of this show. But I feel I’m expressing honesty that others may be afraid too, due to your rep around here. Rep I may add, is richly deserved. Starrcade, in terms of writing skill, will be awesome … 100% no doubt. But the overall concept of the thread, including the superstars being used, and the over the top booking, is a bit hard to digest for me personally. As I said at the start of this review, I felt that might happen. So again, it is not YOU. It is WCW 2001 I don’t like. Perhaps I'd love a show with 10,000 run-ins and so on, if it was a WWE thread. It may honestly just be me. And hopefully, as I said earlier, you can draw me in over time. I’m optimistic, and will be continuing on with this thread.

Default Re: WCW 2001- The Trio Ownership

Spanks for the review everyone, mucho appreciated.

NB, I'll fill you in on some of the questions you had.

WCW Wednesday Nitro is now so because when WCW came back onto television in May, they were Monday Nitro, competing head-to-head with Raw, but the show ended up getting cancelled after just four shows (EWR <3). When WCW got a new TV contract, the decision was made to go to Wednsday instead of Monday so as to not lose ratings and thus, get cancelled.

Once WCW got back onto TV, Booker T vacated the US Title since he was WHC. In the finals of an ensuing tourney, Lance Storm (still doing his Anti-USA stick at the time) defeated Hugh Morris. However, Storm had stated throughout said tourney he would refuse to wear the US Title Belt, and would only be recognized as the Canadian Champion. So after Lance won the tourney, he declared himself the Canadian Champion, while Hugh Morris came to the conclusion that since Lance Storm refused to be the US Champion, he forfeited his victory in the tournament, and thus that made Morris the US Champion. A decision was made by Bischoff (pre-nWo Bischoff, for the record) to combine the two titles to form the North American Championship, resolving the country issue at hand. In a ladder match to dub the first NA Champ, Lance Storm defeated Morris.

'The New Enforcer' Cal Anderson = C.W. Anderson. He was signed to a contract and debuted in August as the 'nephew' of Arn Anderson. Since Double A is physically unable to wrestle, he brought in the next generation of the Anderson family to be an Enforcer. He's actually undefeated since his debut, in that he has never been pinned or submitted in a match. He has been in a triple threat match where he didn't win, but didn't take the fall... but that's irrelevent

Also, Hennig came back into WCW at the start of September, debuting as, of course, a nWo member. He's been a perennial midcarder, however, and will stay as so.

I think I got your questions for ya... if not, damn it! But yes, you, among others, are absolutely right in that there were WAY too many run-ins on the show. And the booking has been VERY WCWish. And I've been slowly building this up, that very WCW feel to everything in the booking, while the WCW/nWo feud started off hot, but has dwindled and staled, to be honest. But Starrcade IS the turning point for so many things. The booking should (hopefully) change up to some extent, the WCW/nWo feud is going to heat up. The wind has blown one way, and now, it turns its course... or something like that.

Thanks to EVERYONE who has reviewed the show and the BTB thus far. Hopefully I can get up the preview by Sunday night and such. Yes, yes

^^ Thanks for clearing things up there. I figured Cal was CW, but didn't want to assume something incorrect, and come off noobish.

Thanks for clearing up the North American Title and Wednesday Nitro situations. Furthermore, I have no doubt that you don't plan on keeping things the way they are. I am sure that only the sky is the limit in you mind. I can't help but feel like maybe I was too negative. But ... meh ... reach for the sky.

Curt Henning as a midcarder = horrible booking.

Naitch > Degenerates.

Good Day.

Naw man, you were great. Excellent feedback, and I appreciated it greatly. The positive comments and the negatives one, I appreciate. I'll try and leave you some comments over the weekend.

And Naitch, you're more or less an honorary Degenerate, in my eyes. I have no beef with you. And hey, DDMac/Chyna is getting lonely as the only female... we could always use a Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley

Man o man, I must say, this Nitro definitely got me pumped for Starrcade. This ain't gonna be your traditional review, as I feel a fluent chunk of feedback is all one needs.

We'll start off... with the end. The finishing sequence of the show was just brilliant. Booking wise it was great, as through the no contest, Booker T nor Jarret look weak by losing to one another. Finally, after an insane , and I mean INSANE-O brawl, Booker stands tall, looking ever so strong going into Starrcade. One has to believe he'll finally beat Jarret at the grand daddy of em all.

The way Starrcade is going to be build around the NWO vs. WCW story is really sparking up my interest even more. I love how the high profile feuds all revolt around this WCW vs. nWo story, which is without a doubt one of the best storylines I've read in BTB. I'm no freaking asskisse damn it!

Kidman-Mysterio is also a feud that I thoroughly enjoy. Mysterio is still looking like a coward, but I'm sure he'll pick up the win at Starrcade.

I'm kinda 'meh' on the other matches at Starrcade, perhaps the most on the Tag Team match. Sure, I'm a fan of Jindrak's(), but still this match can't draw me in, sort of speak.

What more is there to say, which won't look like I'm riding your balls?

Your promos were once again strong, beyond strong. No flaws whatsoever.

The matches itself weren't impressive at all, but they served their purpose going into Starrcade.

Overall, very solid show, pumping me up for Starrcade. Write that baby as quick as you can, cause I'm excited to read.
