KOP's SmackDown Feedback
I seem to be saying this to everyone of late, but I'm sorry for the lateness of this review
~ Now THIS is what I've been waiting for for weeks now with the build towards the Batista/Undertaker match at SummerSlam. I actually think Big Dave has very underrated mic skills, especially when he is playing the monster heel character that you have him as. Intensity can do a hell of a lot for a promo, and from the recap 'Tista sounded intense as hell. Nice heel touch with the video package as well, but the aftermath with the appearance from The Undertaker is the thing that really got me excited about this feud now. Is this the first time we have actually seen 'Taker in person since the Great American Bash? I think it is. 'Taker actually actually seems to get the better of Batista in this little flurry, which kind of surprised me on the very last show before SummerSlam, because I am expecting 'Taker to go over. However, after this, and all of the exposure you have given heel Batista of late ... could we see a surprise?
~ I'm still a little gutted that the Cruiserweight match wasn't featured at SummerSlam, but it was still one HELL of a way to kick of the show tonight. Despite the recap you wrote the description at a fair old pace to bring in realism, although it did kind of sound like a Tornado Tag Match, with the Mexicools and Pitbulls teaming together. No real surprise to Noble retain, continuing what has probably been the best reign of this thread. A solid 8 months is it now? Personally I can see Kid Kash pinning one of the Mexicools to win the belt at some point, although that would suggest another Noble/Kash feud, and that seemed to have run its course at No Way Out and Wrestlemania.
~ This feud between Finlay and Bobby Lashley has improved a lot over the last few weeks. This is proper hype, unlike the rather silly comedy sketches we have been having over the past. Just a simple, intense promo from Finlay, followed by a squash of a veteran Hardcore Holly. Finlay is being built up very well now, and he even left Lashley a bloody mess at the end. Heh heh, I had the same kind of thing in my thread. It's great fun having Finlay batter Lashley
Looks like Bobby will be going over at SummerSlam though, which is fine, since I can see the feud carrying on to a gimmick match at No Mercy.
~ Ah,Kennedy promos make me happy. I am nearly 100% certain that there is no way that Kennedy is dropping the U.S title at SummerSlam. He only just won kit at GAB, and I can see you giving him quite a long reign (unlike the ones Booker and Lashley got) because he is, quite frankly, the most entertaining person on the show
I don't actually think Matt Hardy will play a role in the match until the very end when he costs Rey the match or something along those lines. Everything seems to point to a feud bewteen those two, and I think I agree.
~ Good win for Paul Burchill tonight over Steven Richards. I hope he keeps this momentum up, because his feud with MVP is rapidly sending both men, both new to the world of singles competition, right towards the United States title.
~ I used to love those promo videos that Mark Henry always put on, so I liked this one. Oddly, I actually have my fingers crossed that Henry gets the title at SummerSlam, mainly because I want to see something really original happen. I've never seen anyone give Henry the gold before.
~ You have to understand, KOP, why I've been seeing this JBL business as kind of confusing. You said he wasn't feuding with Teddy Long, yet we continue to get these segments with him. No Mercy will undoubtedly feature Angle/Henry for the title, and I can see JBL moving over to commentary or some other role.
~ We finally get the big tag team match up between the Hooligans and the Bluebloods. These two are basically the only teams in your division right now, so throwing them into an instant feud was the only thing you could do. I expect the same kind of treatment for Cryme Tyme on Raw with MNM. No real surprise to see Regal and Taylor get the win, as I'm sure they'll earn a title shot by No Mercy.
~ Heel Batista is so much better. Maybe I should turn him heel he my thread? Hmmmm...
Also, when wrestlers beat up random workers it makes me happy.
~ Nice little interview from Matt Hardy and Rey Mysterio next. The way these two have been with one another of late has been almost like a tag team, they are almost TOO friendly. I personally think that all of this comaraderie we are seeing is setting them up for a bif fall come SummerSlam.
~ Great Main Event to really give the U.S title division some hype. MVP sounded excellent during this match, as he sold his 'leg injury' all the way. I can't believe Paul Burchill actually came down for no reason other than to cost MVP the match. This feud is really hotting up. I had thought that Rey might pin Kennedy, but I guess that might take too much momentum away from Double K.
~ Ha ha, Miz is such a dork, I can't believe you actually gave him mic time
You really seem to love these face to face interviews to close the final shows before PPVs. First the contract signing on Raw and now this. JBL seemed to carry most of the promo but Henry and Angle had some godd input as well. No real surprise to see JBL assault Angle but have it backfire immediately. The way you wrote it seemed to suggest that it was a level playing field at the end of the night, but I actually think that Angle came off the strongest ... just ...
Overall this was a pretty good recap to head into the 2nd biggest PPV of the year with. Not only did all of the SummerSlam feuds get exposure (I love Batista/'Taker) but you made it perfectly clear that after SummerSlam the feuds leading to No Mercy will be equally good. Great job, bud
Rob Van Dam (c) w/ Sabu
vs. Chris Jericho w/ Chuck Palumbo
Van Dam has been on an absolute role in this thread, and whilst I very badly want Y2J to get the gold, I don't think he will be getting it at his first shot. With this being RVD's first reign, I think you are not going to have him drop it until around Unforgiven or Survivor Series.
Triple Threat Match
Kurt Angle (c)
vs. JBL vs. Mark Henry
I know it's boring of me to think that there will be no major title changes at a big PPV, but I honestly can't see you taking the belt off Angle. Not only do you seem to love him as the Champion on either brand, but JBL is on the way out, and I don't think you like Henry enough. I hope I'm wrong though.
Steel Cage Showdown
Team McMahon (Triple H, Christian, and Rated RKO)
vs. Team Michaels (Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Ric Flair, and Stone Cold Steve Austin)
I basically going off what I THINK should happen. Looking at Team McMahon, they have three young guys that need the rub from this, whilst Team Michaels has three old veterans and John Cena. Plus, the last few weeks has been a succession of Superkicks for Rated RKO and Christian.
Last Ride Match
The Final Encounter
The Undertaker vs. Batista
I don't believe I actually put that, but I can see Big Dave going over 'Taker this Sunday. Batista has not won a match in this feud next, but I reckonhe is being built up for this baby. Could someone interefere and cost 'Taker the match? It's highly possible.
Shelton Benjamin (c) vs. Jeff Hardy
Here's our new champion. I've been fairly certain of this for a while now, that Shelton's long reign is ending. I think Charlie Haas may interfere though.
United States Championship
Mr. Kennedy (c)
vs. Rey Mysterio
Special Referee: Matt Hardy
I don't even think this one needs explaining. Kennedy hasn't had the belt long. Mysterio had a four months reign as U.S Champion earlier in the year. Hardy will accidentally screw his friend.
Carlito vs. Booker T
I think that Carlito SHOULD go over because he is younger and needs the push, but I think, judging from the last Raw, that Booker T will get a controversial victory.
Lashley will most likely be stepping up towards the World title soon, so odds are he'll be pushed faster than Finlay. Plus, Finlay beat the crap out of Lashley on the last SmackDown, so that speaks for itself.
Great card. Awesome booker. Fantastic match writer. This should be off the chart, KOP
