Smackdown Review

Contract Signing – This was a great way to kick the show and it looked like it was going to be rushed with Teddy Long quickly introducing Batista but then again that is what happens on a regular Smackdown on TV. Batista just randomly talked about a load of rubbish and seemed out of character although it is different to have a heel Batista without Flair or Triple H to talk for him so it maybe hard to do. Mysterio comes out and although he has little character on the mic you got him perfectly and Mysterio attacking Batista is a nice change and I like how Batista still ended up getting the advantage putting Mysterio through the table and this definitely needs a gimmick match added soon.

Jamie Noble vs Simon Dean – A filler match to open Smackdown but I like the fact that the cruiserweight champion is in action this week. Basic squash match here and I cannot comment much about this as it was just Jamie Noble picking up a win with the Tiger Driver.

Sylvan Segment – This was an in character segment but the Sylvan character is extremely boring just talking about Quebec even though you nailed it on the head perfectly. Hardcore Holly coming in is ok and a match between these two should be quite good and I like that Hardcore Holly has got his Pro-USA gimmick back.

Ken Kennedy/Theodore Long Segment – This was a good idea with Kennedy being evicted from the building by security however Kennedy seemed off character. Theodore Long in character throughout and used all the right words. Kennedy not wanting any part of Lashley after the attack he did. Announcement next week should be interesting although I expect it to be a match at Judgement Day.

8 Man Tag Match – A great match here but I think this should have been further up the card but that means nothing. The heel team doing the heel tactics in the match including the shillelagh shot. I like that the faces get in a lot of offence which makes all 8 men look strong.

Randy Orton Interview – Another off character interview and Orton seemed way off. He normally seems a lot more cocky and here he just randomly rambled about things like Christian and winning the match later tonight. Just did not see much point of this interview as it did not really build up that much.

Booker T vs Matt Hardy – A great match up here and I would like to see these two go at it and I think that you have got both their styles perfect. Matt Hardy picking up the win is great which shows that he is going to get a push soon and I liked the ending with Hardy using a cradle to pin Booker.

Edge Promo – A simple Edge promo telling us that he is fed up but it was slightly off character in my opinion. It just felt like something was missing here and that something could have been added.

Edge vs Scotty 2 Hotty – A squash match just to put the champion over and just to put over the fact that Edge is a heel especially hitting the spear and still locking in the submission making the referee have to pull him of. It is good that Scotty got a good bit of attack against Edge to start the match of and that is what leads to a good squash match with the jobber getting in some offence.

Christian Interview – This was a great interview and it was better than some of your other stuff but it was still missing something to make it off character. Maybe it could have contained a Christian style comedy line or something like that to get the interview to stick in our heads but just a normal interview here and at the moment I am unsure who is going to win the main event.

Fatal Four Way Main Event – This was a great main event for Smackdown and with Benoit getting in the three German suplexes and JBL hitting the clothesline from hell it would have been exciting to watch. Edge coming out and hitting all four men with the steel chair is very realistic and at Judgement Day I could see some what of a five way match which will be one hell of a title defence.

Aftermath – This was great and in character from both Teddy Long and Edge and with all five men plus one other mystery superstar at Judgement Day this is going to be great to read and I hope you pull it of well.

Ok, there is the final card for Backlash. Now, I've done three matches and only five more to go of course. I'm starting on my fourth match and could possibly be done tomorrow with the fourth. So feel free to post predictions if you want. I'll be returning Smackdown reviews tomorrow for people who reviewed that I haven't returned yet or if I reviewed your's and you returned my review, then I won't have to worry about those! Anyways, I'm aiming to seeing Backlash up the week of the 15th somewhere in that week.

A few of these predictions will be educated guesses, as I havent had much chance to keep up with everything on Raw lately.

Backlash 2006

WWE Championship
Rob Van Dam (c) vs Kurt Angle
Van Dam HAS to retain. He's just coming off the back of his biggest win, at the biggest PPV of the year. It's the lock of the card.

Intercontinental Championship
Shelton Benjamin (c) vs Gregory Helms
Predicting a new champion here. Helms has gotten a big push off the back of WM, and I think he could make a credible I.C Champion, and would be something fresh on the show.

World Tag Team Championships
3MW (c's) vs Eugene and Goldust
Eugene and Goldust seem very random. This looks like a short term feud, before a credible face team can challenge 3MW.

Women's Championship
Handicap Match

Mickie James (c) vs Trish Stratus and Ashley Massaro
I smell a heel turn. Most likely from Ashley, but y'know, I wouldnt rule out Trish for some reason, just for a major swerve.

Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Triple H and Kane
Special Referee: Vince McMahon
Special Enforcer: Shane McMahon
With the odds so far stacked against the faces, it seems like they just HAVE to win. Have no idea how they'll pull it off, but they just will. I'll be interested to see how they do though, unless I'm 100% wrong.

Steel Cage Match
John Cena vs Chris Jericho
Although Jericho should win this, I cant imagine this feud ending with a heel win. Jerichos ego would just be too big, and I cant imagine Cena just accepting it. Cena wins, but I wouldnt be surprised to see Y2J pull it off.

Matt Striker w/ Test vs Charlie Haas
Hard to call really. Both men are getting a big push in the mid card, but I expect you've got bigger plans for Striker ahead of Haas.

Carlito vs Chris Masters
Carlito > Masters.

Friday Night Smackdown -- Friday April 28, 2006 -– Comments

Opening Promo was really good. I liked it. Both, Batista and Mysterio were right and character and I enjoyed the contract-signing segment between them. Noble wins, filler match, what can I say more about it? Sylvain’s promo was nice. He was right in character and the promo flowed well. Holly vs. Sylvain next week would be interesting. Sylvain has to win though. Ken and Teddy’s promo was off for me. It could’ve been improved. Ken was not looking Ken himself. Well, a great eight-man tag team contest here. Enjoyed throughout it. Interesting ending to it too. Kendrick hit London? Maybe a feud between them is coming or was this a botch or something? Anyway, Orton’s promo was fine and flowed well. He was right on the spot too. Non-title match here, does this means that Hardy is gonna win? Well, I predict so. And yeah, I was right. Hardy takes the win and now is the number one contender to that title? Major upset for Booker though. Wow, Edge’s going insane and intense. Damn good promo by him, enjoyed it. Match looked like a filler/sqash though, which I did not liked because we already had a filler/squash type of a match. Christian’s promo was a hit, completely liked it. I don’t think that either Orton or Christian would win the main event tonight because I can see a huge program between them at Judgment Day. Winner of the match has to be Benoit or JBL. Wanted a JBL promo though, lol. Amazing main-event and amazing ending. I liked how Edge decimated everyone. Oh my gawd! Simply amazing. Would be interesting to see who the sixth guy is. Amazing dude.
