Re: WWE 2007: UTF - The Inevitable Return
WWE Judgment Day – Sunday May 20, 2007
St. Louis, Missouri – Savvis Center
Judgment Day 2007 opens with a video package focusing on the executioner’s chair. The video has many flashing in and out spots where the video shots cut out. The superstars are heard talking about how their Judgment Day is upon them and that their time is now. Many superstars in the top matches share their thoughts on their Judgment Day’s as suddenly the camera heads into the arena. Michael Cole and Josh Matthews run down the show for us tonight talking about all of the matches Smackdown has to offer before passing it over to Joey Styles and Tazz who run down the ECW side of things.
Match #1 – Intercontinental Championship
Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Charlie Haas
These two superstars look to further their feud tonight as they’ve had an on and off feud since before WrestleMania despite Haas having had problems with Flair. Hardy and Haas both kick off the show in a great match that gets the fans pumped up for the show tonight. Haas and Hardy had many tie ups in the middle of the ring but Haas caught Hardy off guard with a bridged German Suplex getting a two count but Hardy quickly kicked out of the bridge. Haas went on the attack shortly after clubbing Hardy in the back trying to wear down Hardy but the Charismatic Enigma found a way to fight back in the match as he elbowed Haas in the sternum before running off the ropes and dropping Haas with a dropkick. The fans cheered loudly as Hardy regained his footing and kicked Haas down low trying for the Twist of Fate but Haas grabbed Hardy by the tights throwing him shoulder first into the turnbuckles! Haas quickly then pulled Hardy back up hitting a German Suplex! Haas covered only getting a two count. The angry challenger quickly picked Hardy back up but Hardy kneed Haas in the face only to drop Haas quickly with the Twist of Fate! Hardy didn’t cover instead heading to the top rope for the Swanton Bomb but Haas got his knees up allowing Haas to run over and pin Hardy with feet on the ropes for the victory!
Winner and NEW Intercontinental Champion – Charlie Haas
Haas is walking around carrying his first major singles title (well first period) being heard that “finally his time is now” as many jobbers such as Funaki, Shannon Moore, Sylvan, Danny Doring, and etc. seem to act as if they care. Haas bumps into Smackdown newcomer Brent Albright and Haas has some choice words for Albright. Haas says that he doesn’t care what Albright thinks about him and he certainly doesn’t care that he claims to be the “Shooter” because it’s Haas’s time now…not Albright’s. Brent shakes his head almost in disgust as Haas walks off touting the title over his shoulder.
Match #2 – Six Man Tag Team Extreme Rules Match
Matt Striker, Test, and Chris Masters vs. The ECW Originals (Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, and Balls Mahoney)
The tag team match that has been hyped for weeks to bring an end to the problems these six man have had certainly isn’t a match of the night contender but it had it’s hardcore moments that showed ECW’s hardcore aspect of wrestling. The match takes a turn for the ending whenever Masters hit a MasterSlam on Mahoney through the table but only scored a two count. Striker’s team thought for sure the match was over but Masters looked on in disappointment as he had to watch the match continue on. Shortly after Striker got Test to pick Dreamer up and try for a Running PowerSlam through a table but Dreamer fell off the shoulders of Test before pushing Test right into Striker! Striker went flying through the ropes and through a table on the outside! Sandman grabbed the Singapore cane looking to finish off Test with it but from behind Viscera grabs the Singapore cane? Viscera isn’t wearing his pajamas though as he’s in his street clothes as he pulls the cane out of the hand of Sandman before he breaks it over his leg! Sandman gets into an argument with Viscera before Viscera clotheslines Sandman down! Viscera then presses Mahoney into the air throwing him through another table on the outside before Dreamer runs right into a Sidewalk Slam! Masters quickly covers Dreamer as Viscera leaves the ring.
Winners – Matt Striker, Test, and Chris Masters
The announcers talk about maybe this has to do with Matt Striker having supposedly talked to Viscera over the past few weeks as Styles and Tazz really press the issue.
Finlay is standing in front of the camera talking about how he doesn’t have a match or isn’t involved in anything tonight. Finlay says that it’s okay though because he’s ready to pick a fight with just about anybody on the brand here that’s willing. He says that he’s been searching for that perfect person to “pick a fight” with and prove a point just why he is the most dangerous veteran in the WWE. But nobody will find out tonight…or will they?
Match #3 – Singles Match
Carlito vs. The Big Show
The Big Show makes his in-ring return after a nearly one year sabbatical and Big Show shows a bit of rust but you can’t tell considering how big he is anyways. The big man seems to have lost some weight which is good. Carlito runs from the Big Show a lot trying to further prove that he is “scared” of the Big Show. The announcers talk about how Big Show and Carlito ironically met at Judgment Day two years ago. The match sees it’s ending whenever Carlito tries to unsuccessfully hit a Back Cracker on Big Show (which he seemed to really stand no chance) but Carlito landed on his back in the ring. Shortly after Big Show scooped Carlito up throwing him into the corner before slapping Carlito across the chest. Big Show then picked Carlito up hitting a big Chokeslam covering Carlito in the ring for his return victory.
Winner – The Big Show
A video for May’s PPV Series – The Day is Upon Us – Judgment Day Through the Years is shown with historical moments from the PPV.
The WWE Tag Team Champions, the Mexicools, are standing around in the back holding their titles as Gregory Helms walks by. The Mexicools show their limited knowledge of English as they pretend to understand what Helms is saying. Helms says that he’s going to show the Mexicools just why he is the “Savior” of the Cruiserweight division.
Backstage Shawn Michaels is interviewed concerning the big tag team match tonight. HBK says that he’s fought through many demons before in his life and this battle he’s had ever since coming to Smackdown is “just like a demon” to him. He’s had to overcome Edge, JBL, and now Christian but he won’t back down from these demons. Michaels says that’s why he brought his good friend Ric Flair along for the ride because he knew the Nature Boy was capable of helping Michaels overcome these “demons” that HBK claims to have had recently.
Match #4 – Cruiserweight Championship – Singles Match
Paul London (c) vs. Gregory Helms
The two talented cruiserweights get a decent bit of time to put on a good match as one of London’s first few title defenses look to be going good so far. However the match turns for the worse for London whenever he misses a Moonsault to the outside before Helms found the time to capitalize and ram London back first into the pole. Everything else from there on was downhill for London as Helms was able to capitalize on London’s big mistake to go air born with Helms getting many close counts with a flashback to his Hurricane character with the Hurri-slam. Remember recently Helms has been having flashbacks to the Hurricane character and this has been going on since WrestleMania 23. Helms quickly picked London back up trying for a vertical suplex but quickly London reversed rolling up Helms with a cradle but only got a two count. Helms quickly jumped onto his feet before charging at London and hitting the Shining Wizard for the victory
Winner and NEW Cruiserweight Champion – Gregory Helms
The commentators hype up Helms’ victory tonight to win the Cruiserweight title for the first time in nearly five years. Shortly after this we head backstage to see the duo of Kenny Dykstra and Kelly Kelly walking backstage before they bump into Ashley. Kenny and Kelly make fun of Ashley asking her what she’s been doing the past few weeks since Kenny dumped her. Ashley says that she’s found someone that can help her with this problem before she introduces Kofi Kingston who is the newest superstar on ECW. Kingston is from Jamaica and Kelly and Kenny laugh and make comments about how he’s just as much as a freak as Ashley. Kofi tries to keep the peace not really understanding the situation before Kelly and Kenny walk off as Kofi and Ashley stand back looking on.
A video plays hyping the first annual Night of Champions Live Sunday June 24, 2007 from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. “Where Every Match is for a Championship”
Match #5 – ECW Championship – Singles Match
Rob Van Dam (c) vs. William Regal
Regal gets his first World title shot for the first time in years tonight after having earned it and being “picked” by Paul Heyman as the man that could finally dethrone RVD of his spot. Regal doesn’t disappoint Heyman from the get go as Heyman is at ringside watching the match and really is trying his best to assure Regal he will win. Normally the matches would be Extreme Rules but Heyman felt that they would play into RVD’s favor tonight so Heyman has made the match a regular singles match. Regal does his best to impress the rather hard headed ECW GM Heyman as he works on the legs of RVD trying to keep Van Dam off of his feet. Regal’s attempts were thrusted however after RVD used his feet to push Regal back first into the turnbuckles before Regal ran right into a spinning heel kick from RVD! Shortly after Van Dam went for and hit the Rolling Thunder before topping off Regal with the Five Star Frog Splash! Van Dam covers getting the win and retaining his title.
Winner – Rob Van Dam
The referee goes to get RVD’s title but Heyman pulls the title back holding it himself. Heyman says that he’s going to be keeping this title until Night of Champions because Heyman has a feeling we’re going to be crowning a new champion anyways. Heyman lets out a laugh as he leaves ringside carrying the title as RVD doesn’t know what to think about it.
Edge and Christian are shown backstage talking to JBL about the big tag team match tonight. JBL says that he brought Christian back for one reason and that was to get rid of Shawn Michaels. JBL reminds Edge how much of a thorn that HBK has been in their side for nearly months and that tonight he must be gotten rid of. The brothers then talk about how Flair feels the need to stick his nose in their business but tonight they don’t take out only HBK but the Nature Boy! JBL says that they are the “faces” of Smackdown and tonight their reign over the brand continues.
Backstage MVP is interviewed concerning his upcoming match against “Mr. Money in the Bank” Rey Mysterio. MVP is asked about how he was “wronged” at WrestleMania 23 supposedly when he reached and touched the briefcase but was pulled down. MVP says that he’s just like many famous players in the NFL such as Terrell Owens. There’s games that he’s on and there’s games that he’s not on his game…but tonight MVP is on top of his game. MVP tells Mysterio that he’s already got this one “wrapped up” and that Mysterio better be hoping that by a slim chance of luck he walks out of here tonight.
Match #6 – Singles Match
MVP vs. Rey Mysterio
These two’s personal problems go all the way back before WrestleMania but it recently started escalating shortly after. MVP has staked his claim for the briefcase stating that he does deserve it and that he’ll go to any degree to get it in his hands. But first MVP has requested a singles match with Rey Mysterio to “take out” Rey and then get the briefcase later. These two don’t disappoint as they entertain the fans with the time they are given and both men put on one great match. MVP hit many key moves but it was towards the end when MVP knocked Rey out with a clothesline that things seemed to be turning to the worse for Rey Mysterio. MVP quickly pulled Rey towards the middle of the ring trying for the Playmaker but Rey was able to slide out somehow before dropkicking MVP into the ropes! Rey charged off the ropes for a 619 but he missed. MVP got back up charging at Rey with the Drive By Kick but Mysterio ducked before running off the ropes and hitting a Springboard Crossbody catching MVP off guard and getting the quick 1, 2, 3!
Winner – Rey Mysterio
Rey slides out of the ring as MVP is kicking the ropes in anger yelling “It’s not over this easy Mysterio” as the commentators hype up Rey’s big surprise win tonight over the rolling MVP. Shortly after this we head backstage to see Shawn Michaels talking to Ric Flair prepping for their tag team match later tonight. HBK says that he’s depended on Flair many times in his career and it’s easy to understand why. He’s the Nature Boy after all! The biggest legend to ever step foot in a ring and that is why Shawn depends so much on Flair. Shawn reminds Flair just how big tonight is. Shawn says that tonight….if they can take down Edge and Christian…then Smackdown will be back to normal if we can finally shut JBL up as well. HBK says it’s going to take a lot of hard work but that they will tear down this “power trip” one by one by one. HBK and Flair shake hands as they both go their separate ways until the match later tonight.
Match #7 – Singles Match
Mark Henry vs. Kane
We get a brief hard hitting match up that never was intended to go long. It was to show just how hard hitting these two newcomers to ECW are and it shows with both men throwing big blows at one another early from the get go. Henry and Kane exchanged lots of rights but Henry turned the tide of the match whenever he was able to clothesline Kane out of the ring before doing a lot of damage on the outside of the ring. After ramming Kane back first into the barricade and then the steel pole, Henry quickly rolled Kane back into the middle of the ring. Henry picked Kane back up and Kane tried to fight Henry off with numerous European Uppercuts but Henry pulled Kane in before ramming him back first into the turnbuckles and then proceeded to hit the World’s Strongest Slam on the Big Red Monster for the victory.
Winner – Mark Henry
The commentators hype Henry’s win tonight saying that he for sure is going to be a force to be reckoned with on ECW for now on. Joey Styles and Tazz bid farewell for tonight as we then immediately cut into a video package highlighting the main event. The video package shows highlights from the WrestleMania 23 main event between Edge and HBK, Christian’s return to the WWE and Smackdown, HBK confiding in his friend Flair to join him in this war, JBL siding with Edge and Christian, and more in this on-going saga between these five men. The video package ends showing highlights of all five men being down in the ring and the quote “This power trip will continue on strong…or it must end”
Match #8 – Tag Team Main Event
Edge and Christian w/ Smackdown GM JBL vs. Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair
The tag team main event gets a decent amount of time as it continues on to wage the war between Edge, Christian, and JBL a.k.a the Power Trip against the “Good guys” in Shawn Michaels and his compadre Ric Flair. The duo of Flair and HBK fend off Edge and Christian early in the get go forcing E & C to discuss their strategy outside with JBL. JBL says to attack them where it hurts and immediately Edge and Christian slide in attacking Flair. Edge and Christian then begin to focus on Flair as he is the “older one” and is more vulnerable to being taken down. HBK tries to rally Flair back into the match as Edge and Christian work the normal formula tag team match bringing in one another frequently. JBL even gets as far as interfering but the referee naturally doesn’t see this as JBL trips Flair up. HBK comes charging at JBL but JBL fiends HBK off by moving out of the way and HBK hits the barricade hard. This leaves Flair in the ring as Edge and Christian both double team Flair as HBK is down on the outside being attended to by the referee. JBL grabs Edge’s title belt throwing it into the ring as JBL tells Christian to hold Flair up and Edge to hit Flair with the belt! Edge charges at Flair with the belt but SWERVE! Naturally Flair moves and Edge knocks his brother out cold with the belt! Flair fights back giving HBK time to get back up before the hot tag is made! HBK comes in raring to go as he knocks Christian off the apron before taking Edge, the legal man, back down. HBK storms off the ropes avoiding JBL trying to trip him up before hitting a Flying Elbow to Edge. HBK climbs to the top rope ready to leap off the top rope for the Diving Elbow before JBL tries to swing the chair at HBK but HBK ducks and instead hits the ropes missing. HBK greets JBL with Sweet Chin Music face first into the chair before Edge turns around charging at HBK. Edge comes right at HBK for the Spear but HBK grabs Edge pushing him into Flair (HBK played it off as if he didn't know Flair was behind him) and Edge hits Flair with the Spear! Flair was coming into the ring to stop Edge from attacking HBK from behind! HBK looks down at Flair really not looking much concerned before hitting Sweet Chin Music on Edge and getting the victory for his team.
Winners – Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair
Edge rolls to the outside of the ring as Christian helps him back up and JBL looks on angry. JBL is yelling at the two brothers as Edge gets into his face on the outside. Meanwhile the scene shifts into the ring as HBK helps Flair up but Flair doesn't want any assistance. The titantron is showing replays of what happened as Flair clearly sees what just happened. Flair gets up on his own power as Judgment Day 2007 comes to an end tonight from St. Louis, Missouri!
