Re: WWE Unleash the Fury
Well hell I forgot I had typed a preview a long time ago. So hey, here ya go....WWE Presents SummerSlam
Sunday August 20, 2006
Los Angeles, California - Staples Center
Rob Van Dam (c) w/ Sabu vs. Chris Jericho w/ Chuck Palumbo
Saturday July 15, an important day in this storied rivalry between Chris Jericho and Rob Van Dam. The day that Jericho overcame the odds and won a 20 man battle royal to even earn this title shot at SummerSlam against Van Dam. The Monday after on Raw, John Cena and RVD had a rematch for the WWE Championship but little did either know that Jericho had been named the special referee. Towards the end of the match, Jericho made sure Cena wasn’t going to win the title, considering Cena was his long time arch rival and he beat down on his future SummerSlam opponent, that being RVD brutally in the ring. In a heated Highlight Reel on the 24th of July, Jericho introduced his form of backup, that being Chuck Palumbo. Palumbo fought RVD later that night in the main event but RVD retaliated with back up as he brought back his friend and former ECW superstar, Sabu! Jericho paid dearly the week following as Sabu rolled Jericho up, gaining a win over the number one contender even shocking Jericho in the process. But it was Jericho that got the last laugh as he demanded a rematch and got it by beating Sabu one on one in an ECW Rules Match. After their contract signing on Raw this past week, one has to wonder what else can possibly go down at SummerSlam. Perhaps this is one of the most personal matches on the card for SummerSlam and it all looks to come to a head live this Sunday!
Steel Cage Showdown
Team McMahon (Triple H, Rated RKO, and Christian) vs. Team Michaels (Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ric Flair, and John Cena)
Perhaps the most storied rival is set to come to an end whenever both of these teams meet up in the first ever Steel Cage Showdown. The match will have a normal steel cage surrounding the ring but instead of escape, there will be no escaping as there is a roof on the cage. Pin falls will not count until the last man has entered the ring and someone will enter every three minutes. This all started back in January before the Royal Rumble whenever Michaels and Triple H had a heated confrontation. Of course we all know what happened at WrestleMania in their storied battle between Michaels and Hunter. However, it wasn’t finished from there as Mr. McMahon continued to berate Shawn Michaels and said he would not stand his ground until Michaels was gone. McMahon has now given Michaels an ultimatum and it is this. Should Team Michaels win at SummerSlam, he will receive a future title shot. However should Team Michaels lose, he will lose his job. Rated RKO made their faces known on Raw whenever they returned to Raw in July until SummerSlam. McMahon “borrowed” them from Smackdown to add even more depth to his already stacked team. Breaking this down into personal rivalries, the bad blood mainly consists of between Michaels and HHH, and then Stone Cold and Christian who have had their differences since early this summer. Which team will walk out the victors in this first ever type of match. Could Michaels really lose his job tonight!
Shelton Benjamin (c) vs. Jeff Hardy
A change in Shelton Benjamin’s attitude has recently occurred and it certainly has not been for the better. Benjamin recently decided he didn’t need the fans anymore and that they were just a nuisance to him. Benjamin, who’s had the title since March looks to walk into SummerSlam and hold onto his Intercontinental title, a feat that rarely occurs. And his challenger certainly is not one to be overlooked in Jeff Hardy. Hardy earned this title shot by defeating three men in an Fatal Four Way Elimination match even overcoming the odds after being thrown into the steel pole. Ever since Hardy made his return to the WWE in May, the man has been on fire and looks as if his second Intercontinental title reign is on the horizon. However, an interesting scenario could take place as Benjamin has invited his former tag partner, Charlie Haas, to come sit at ringside and watch the match on Sunday. Haas has been looking for a tag partner and Benjamin more or less said look no further! Will Benjamin’s attitude be his downfall or will he be able to prevent the daredevil Jeff Hardy from walking away with the gold?
Booker T vs. Carlito
A heated feud that got its early starts at Saturday Night’s Main Event more than a month ago. After Booker T eliminated Carlito in the #1 Contender’s Battle Royal, both men met up backstage on Raw and needless to say, it wasn’t a meeting of best friends. Security had to break the brawl up and ever since then, it’s been wild. Carlito has challenged Booker since then a few more times to another fight but the coward Booker has ran away every time since then. However on the 31st of July Raw, both men got some in ring action whenever Booker eliminated Carlito from the number one contender’s match for the Intercontinental title which Hardy went on to win. This past week on Raw, things got ugly on Carlito’s Cabana but whenever it was time to put up or shut up, Booker ran once again from the ring. However this Sunday at SummerSlam, Booker can’t run and he can’t hide from Carlito. Who will be the victor in this rather interesting grudge match?
Triple Threat Match
Kurt Angle (c) vs. JBL vs. Mark Henry
Perhaps nothing more could be important than this title match this Sunday for JBL. Like Shawn Michaels, JBL finds his job at stake and that is because Smackdown GM Theodore Long took up JBL’s challenge and gave JBL the title rematch because JBL said he’d do anything for the rematch. Well JBL got what he want in the rematch but maybe not what he wanted in his career on the line. JBL and Angle had one hell of a match at the Great American Bash and shortly after, Mark Henry made it known he was coming for the title after he assaulted both men after their match at the Great American Bash. Henry since then has set himself on a journey, that is to sit on the top of the throne of the Smackdown jungle as he refers to it as. And if JBL and Angle were smart, they wouldn’t want to try and stop him from doing so! Angle has since been laid out by Henry and to this day, Angle still has his ribs taped from the Street Fight in which Henry hit a huge World’s Strongest Splash bruising the ribs of the champion. With so much at stake and the odds stacked against Kurt Angle, can we expect the American Hero to pull one out? Will we crown a new World champion?
Last Ride Match
The Undertaker vs. Batista
Another match that has a lot riding on it, this time one word….Respect! Ever since Batista assaulted the Undertaker back in March, he’s been looking for respect. He’s went through superstars such as Rey Mysterio and many others since then. However the last thing he expected was the Undertaker to come back so quick! Undertaker made his return towards the beginning of July before the Great American Bash. However at the ‘Bash, Batista got himself disqualified with the use of a steel chair, the same weapon he had used numerous times to lay out the Deadman with. However this time, this will be the Final Encounter and this one is in Undertaker’s playground, the Last Ride Match. The rules are simple; the first man that can get his opponent thrown into the back of a hearse and have the hearse driven off will win! Batista simply just wants respect and if he is able to once again take out the Undertaker at SummerSlam, he might just get it. However with the mind games that Undertaker has been throwing at Batista recently, one has to wonder if Batista is even mentally prepared for such a huge match this Sunday?
United States Championship
Mr. Kennedy (c) vs. Rey Mysterio
Special Guest Referee: Matt Hardy
A match that certainly doesn’t seem in the odds of Mr. Kennedy will take place this Sunday at SummerSlam. Kennedy finds his back against the wall and that is mainly because of the one last minute equation in the match, Matt Hardy. Hardy was so close to earning this title shot for himself but in the end, Smackdown GM Theodore Long awarded the special referee spot to Hardy to make sure nothing wrong goes down in the match. Kennedy barely escaped with the title last month in the Steel Cage at the Great American Bash and that has to mainly given credit to Finlay. But now can the superstar from the 619 area code win his second US title of this year and his career? Mysterio certainly is hoping to put matters into his own hands and end the one month reign of the new United States Champion. Will Matt Hardy play any role in the match up?
Bobby Lashley vs. Finlay
A match mainly built on jealousy. Finlay claims that he had a problem with Bobby Lashley and pretty much went about for a while without that being clear. Well apparently is all has to do with Finlay being jealous of Lashley’s accomplishments so far in his one year run in the WWE. Finlay’s only been here since February of this year and is already made such a major impact on Smackdown. Finlay ended up taking out Lashley in the Steel Cage Match for his United States title and costing Lashley the title he had only had for one month. Ever since then, it’s been hell on earth for Finlay as he’s been running away from Lashley but also stood up to the Dominator many a times. If there is guaranteed to be one hard hitting contest at SummerSlam, then that one has to be this one!
Ok and I talked to Nick bout it and he's fine. I'm going to do a predictions contest. Ok, there's going to be a total of 8 questions but one of the questions will have eight possible points. The winner of the contest will then be able to book a match for the following Raw or Smackdown. So anyways, enjoy and thanks for Nick letting me do it haha.
Question #1: List the matches in the order you feel they will take place on the card. Each one right is worth 1 Point. Most points possible is 8 for this question.
Question #2: Will JBL or Shawn Michaels be forced to retire tonight in their respective matches? If so, will it be JBL, Shawn Michaels, or both?
Question #3: How many faces do you think will win their matches tonight?
(The faces in all the matches are Jeff Hardy, Carlito, RVD, Team HBK, Lashley, Angle, Mysterio, and Undertaker)
Question #4: Who will get the winning pinfall in the Steel Cage Showdown?
Question #5: Who will be the one pinned in the Steel Cage Showdown?
Question #6: Will any titles change hands tonight? If so which title/titles?
Question #7: Will there be any DQ's, Countouts, etc. tonight?
Question #8: What Raw superstar do you think will be making his last appearance tonight before leaving the company after SummerSlam?
Ok, those are just some fun questions. Anyways, please have those done by Thursday. You've all already posted predicitions so don't worry about that. Anyways, look for backstage news and notes Thursday and hopefully SummerSlam Friday or Saturday!
