PBS gets $445 million first day of the shutdown

The govt is not really in a shutdown. They are giving money left and right, and to those that don't need it! I didnt even know PBS got any tax money at all. They always have fundraisers on tv claiming viewers fund it. What a lie it seems.

Plus we are giving them money now and nothing to medical research. It's a shame and a sham.

"Funding for clinical cancer trials and other life-saving research under the National Institutes of Health was cut off in response to the government slimdown, but it looks like the cookie monster will still be knee-deep in chocolate chips (or is it carrots now?)

According to the Daily Treasury Statement and first reported by CNS News, the administration dished out $445 million to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) on the first day of the slimdown, which means funds for the likes of PBS Newshour, NPR and “Sesame Street” are being spent before cancer research.

“It’s more than irresponsible, it is reprehensible. It’s an ‘in-your-face’ move by the administration, blatantly picking winners and losers in this shutdown,” C. Edmund Wright, a columnist for Breitbart.com and American Thinker, told FOX411. “Public broadcasting is a staple of liberal propaganda.”

Re: PBS gets $445 million first day of the shutdown

And don't even think about recreating during the shut down! That's right, cant take pictures of anything on govt land. The govt is getting more ridiculous all the time! I should have named this thread "stupid things the govt is doing during the shutdown" anyone else got crazy stories?

I'm wondering why all the rangers are not furloughed? Doesn't it cost more to keep people out of national parks when more security is needed? Seems like they are paying more money than when the parks were open, but there is no money they say to open them. :/

According to the Eagle-Tribune newspaper of North Andover, Massachusetts, tourist Pat Vaillancourt said National Park Service Guards held her tour group under armed guard in a Yellowstone National Park hotel and brusquely told tourists who had filed off their bus to take pictures of bison that they weren't to "recreate."

The tour guide argued to rangers that the tourists -- some of them from overseas -- weren't "recreating," just taking pictures.

"She responded and said, 'Sir, you are recreating,' and her tone became very aggressive," the newspaper quoted Vaillancourt as saying.

I like Charlie Rose but I think that program is financed by Bloomberg and other donators. Frontline is good but do we really need it with 60 minutes, 20/20, Nightline and three big 24/7 news stations?

Only people who believe the government shutdown nonsense are level 1 rubes.

My biggest problem is that we're giving PBS that much money in the first place.
