Thumbs down Chinese man sets nursing home ablaze, killing 11

(CNN) -- A squabble over $32 led a nursing home resident to set the building on fire, killing 11 people, Chinese state-run media reported.

Police said 45-year-old Wang Gui lost his temper after accusing another resident of stealing 200 yuan from him, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Staff members at Lianhe Senior Nursing Home tried to calm Wang down. So did other residents.

But nothing worked.

Early Friday morning, Wang set fire to the home in the northeast city of Hailun, authorities said.

Re: Chinese man sets nursing home ablaze, killing 11

This guy had been in a nursing home for three years because of a stroke incapacitating him, so you've got to hope that he did this due to not being fully in control of his mind. Someone in their right mind who would be happy to kill almost a dozen people over 200元 going missing would be a deplorable human being. Though sadly, people who haven't had strokes do just as terrible things each days - a few days back, a Beijinger killed someone's two year old kid over a parking incident.

China's not the greatest place to grow old, I'm afraid. The government wants only 3% of all elderly people to be in assisted living facilities, meaning than 97% stay with their families, no matter how uncontrollable or in need of medical attention they are. There's a nursing home in Beijing with a 100 year long waiting list. And when you do end up with a place, there's no guarantee that an incident such as this one won't end your life...

You don't normally hear news like these from China.

I accept rep.

Headbanging is crucial.
