Over here, when you go to hospital and tell then you're ill, the first thing they ask you is what's wrong. In America, the first question is "Mastercard or Visa?".

The American healthcare system is morally repugnant.
Actually the first thing they ask you is "what your insurance?"

Which is good because I am kind of an American Express man myself

Re: Just Another Night In America...

Free at point of use, and it is rather disingenuous to imply anyone really think it is free, but the whole idea of the nhs system was to offer a universal health care system which would be free at point of use. We all know it is funded via taxation, any excuse for a ruckus hey lol

Let's start at the 7-Eleven, where that child had every right to be where he was. That child had every right to do what he was doing, walking home.

That child had every right to be afraid of a strange man following him, first in his car and then on foot. And did that child not have the right to defend himself from that strange man? Did Trayvon Martin not also have that right?

Re: Just Another Night In America...

The funny thing about national health care is most people I've seen from most contires dislike their government and don't like how they spend their money

So why would you trust them to literally save your life?

I don't really have a problem universal health care but lately people seem to have the view of "My government is shit. Give me free things and micromanage my life while I complain that you don't do it right."

Like the fact that in the six month period after the 26 people were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary; 5048 people were killed by gun violence in America. That doesn't even include the 7 dead (of the 46 shot) in Chicago over the weekend.

So maybe take a second to think about what the message is rather than how it's being said.
I'm not over analyzing. It's pretty easy to put 2 and 2 together and figure out what they were going for. They didn't just happen to have three white kids holding rifles by chance.

Since no one pointed out the elephant in the room, I'll do it. Most gun crime is caused by non-Asian minorities. Only about 1 out of 8 people in the US are black, yet they cause over half the homicides. Source: http://bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/htus8008.pdf

Notice how there's only three categories, white, black and other, and Hispanics are counted as white even though they're not. If you only count white gun crime it probably wouldn't be much different from Switzerland, a place with tons of guns and low gun crime. Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws, yet highest crime rates in the country, mostly caused by ethnic minorities. There are enough killings there per year to rival what Adam Lanza did almost 20 times over and that's just in one city. Seems to me America doesn't have a "gun" problem after all.

Sorry if what I'm saying here sounds harsh but you can't fix a problem until you deal with the cause and guns are not the cause of the problem here.

Because it is not the government operating on patients, thankfully in the UK it is the doctors and nurses saving lives.

Yes people in the UK traditionally hate when the conservatives are in power as they control budgets but it's no surprise Cameron the current prime minister of said party ring fenced the nhs from cuts.

I saw his post and I'm ignoring it as it is inflammatory and offensive and I'm sure a mod will deal with it appropriately.

As for our discussion, think of it this way, would you rather have a universal health system where you get access to treatments and trust a government not to fuck you over.
Or take your chances and pray you never get I'll and/or hope your medical insurances covers you?

I'm not saying the UK is perfect, but I am proud of the NHS as it has done so much good despite certain media and politicians trying to do a hatchet job on it.

I have no personal problems with either system

Really it all comes down to if the people who run it do it well

That is true but my biggest gripe with private health system is they are bottom line, a profit making system, profit over patients.
