Default Friendship over the internet

Do you think there is such a thing as frienship over the internet like on a Forum like this? If you never see a person in real life can you really call that a friend? Same thing with dating on the internet what is your take on this?

Please keep this discussion civil.

yes according to the definition of friend there's no reason it wouldn't apply to people you've only talked to over the internet.

Yes, friendship over the Internet is possible. I've known someone solely via the Internet going on 8 years now that I still talk to regularly.

I understand what you mean but doesnt it affect things if you never seen someone in person? I know this is much more a problem when it comes to dating but you cannot truly know someone without seing them in the real world is what I think. It is so easy to pretend and hide your flaws behind a keyboard maybe your friends on the internet wouldnt like you in person.

Well then let me change the question, is internet frienship much different from real life friendship if you never seen someone in person? How can someone truly call someone else a true friend when they never seen them in person? At least in person you can observe someone in its natural habitat but on the internet you cant. You just see what they allow you to see and thats it.
