Good to know so many of you still don't know what the fuck we are talking about. Stop using inflation as a means to not raise minimum wage. The costs of goods, and the costs of living goes up regardless. When you are talking about smaller companies what do you define as a small company? If you are going by what the government considers, or defines as small company you are highly uninformed. Most smaller companies don't start off at minimum wage. I was a former business owner with 6 employees. We did real work, and I didn't pay them at the time $5.25 an hour. Whereas a company like Wal Mart had no problem doing that.
Most small business owners know people can't live off of minimum wage. In fact most small business pay over minimum wage. The larger corporations love the idea of minimum wage because it allows them to make more money in the long run. Most larger companies spend more money on higher waged associates, advertisements, taxes, and traveling expenses. As it stands right now the cost of gas is nearly half of what minimum wage is in most states. Who cares if someone flipping burgers is making $10 an hour? Do you eat fast food? The last time I checked the fast food industry was a multi-billion dollar a year industry. Where you going to get your groceries from in order to live?
If you are working for a company like McDonalds, or Burger King you deserve to get paid. People seem to think that because it's work anyone can do that these people deserve low wages. I couldn't disagree more. These are jobs that no one wants, and thus should make them more valuable. No one wants to flip burgers, or take orders. However, the wealthy shareholders, and suits that run Burger King, or Wendys get to make all the money in the world. For what? They aren't flipping burgers, or taking orders from idiots like you.
So many people criticize these people who work for slave wages, but fail to realize without them you all would be fucked. Who is going to cook your kids dinner, certainly not you. More, and more people are eating fast food than in any other time in American history. It's a thriving business, and those people serving are a part of it. Just because anyone can do the job doesn't make it less valuable. Anyone can do anything. The fact that our government thinks that increasing the minimum wage will help the middle class is really scary. People making minimum wage are middle class now?
These rich corporate pigs who lobby our government to give them every single opportunity to make a penny is gross. All the while telling that same government to keep the wages down. Are the majority of people in this nation working for minimum wage? No. Since they aren't give them a wage that meets the means of living. The government is here to make sure that my right to life, liberty, and the pursuit happiness is to be met. How can one live off of $7.25 an hour? People shouldn't have to go to college to make a decent living. That's bullshit, and most of you are too ignorant to realize this.
The fact that they think $9 an hour is livable is ridiculous. No one can live off of that with the way things are going in the market. How are you suppose to retire on that wage? The idea that one has to go to college, fall in to debt in the process in order to succeed in life is bullshit. The only real reason our nation pushes for a college education is because the reality is most companies don't want to pay for your training. Many of hard working young college grads are having a hard time finding jobs in their field. Right now they tell you that there are certain fields you want to get in to if you want to make more money. How ironic that the health care industry, and the drug industries are at the top of those jobs?
Not a single person should have to go to college in order to sustain a real living. Going to college is far to expensive for the average American household. Hence the reason people take out loans, and in particular the government. That's right the government gives people money to go to school. Think about all that money it gives away to people who typically don't get past their freshmen year. I read a few years ago more half of those enlisted in college drop out by their second semester as freshmen. These kids still have to pay, or they will just keep building up more debt due to interests. Our government is wasting money when it should be making companies pay more for non-degree jobs.
You can blame the students all you want for dropping out, but the reality is that it's happening at an alarming rate. Many can't afford to pay rent, books, food, and thus forces many of them to go on welfare. Rising tuition costs are at an all time high. People aren't just dropping out of college because they can't cut it, they can't afford it. Not to mention trying to hold a job down, and what if you have kids? I went to college, and it didn't prepare me for any of the businesses I operated. I learned the business world from experience, and actual physical work involved in it. I learned more in a year from a fellow business owner than I did in 4 years at school. College prepared me for nothing. All it did was give me a piece of paper that said I did it.
Open an economics book, minimum wage is not meant to be a livable wage, just a starting point. If you cannot make it off one job, get a second, if not two jobs, get a third. Make yourself valuable to a company. When opportunities rise, grab them. Learn as much as you can.
Stop thinking you can be rich off minimum wage.
The country has survived for a long time with low minimum wage, and yet, people still believe it should be higher.
We live in times were the economy sucks. Things are not improving. If you think they are, you must be listening to the printing presses.
How are food prices treating people these days? How about gas prices?
The last time I went to the grocery store after the minimum wage went up, I lost more of my disposable income because prices went up.
Right now, many companies are paying $10+ an hour. Will these people see an increase in pay? Anyone? They won't, but prices will rise on them in times where price increases are crippling them.
