I don't believe this either. I just find it funny though how so many people trust the United States government to do right by them.
It's pretty sad. Regardless of whether this litmus test went out or not, the good doctor makes an excellent point about how the media have gone from watchdogs to cheerleaders. THAT is really pathetic.

The era of real, investigative journalism is dead on the mainstream level. Had Watergate happened today, you would have MSNBC calling for Nixon's head while Fox would probably be defending him. The roles would have been reversed had Nixon been a Democrat. You have MSNBC who cheer Team Blue regardless of what they do. On the other hand, you have Fox News, who cheer for Team Red regardless of what they do. The media will spend days talking irrelevant stories, all the while the Congress passed the NDAA 2013, which once again kept the "Indefinite Detention" clause in the bill. I don't think I've heard a word about that in the last two years.

They don't report on real stuff anymore. They'll talk about gun control for weeks though, but only because it fits their agenda. You won't hear a word about civil liberty violations, though.

Ben Swann is one of the only good journalists out there now a days. He's one of the last of a dying breed.

I agree completely. It's almost embarrassing how much time CNN dedicated to stories like the Manti Te'o story and Beyonce lip synching at the inauguration.

Even if people knew about the NDAA and the mainstream news talked about it, what would the citizens do about it? Nothing.

I don't believe this either. I just find it funny though how so many people trust the United States government to do right by them. They send young men and women to go die in foreign countries to fight the "War on Terror", all the while we fund our alleged "enemy" in Syria. They spy on you through laws such as the PATRIOT Act and put a clause BACK into the NDAA that allows them to detain you without trial, even after an amendment was passed to outlaw that.
Pretty sure you aren't picked up out of your house and forced into the military. It's a choice people make or don't make.

So they can't wiretap us and search business records, if I have nothing to hide, why would this bother me? Same with detaining without trial. It can possibly prevent more than it hurts.

The government isn't some big bad force out to get us. Is there corruption and things based on personal agendas? Of course, their has and always will be. Whether it is the government, a tribe on some island, or any other group of people. If you don't like the government, then move. No one is stopping you.

EDIT:
Just so you know, I do agree it is against human rights, but it can help prevent things.

And pretty sure the Supreme Court declared indefinite detention unconstitutional and prevented the government from doing it.

I agree with most of what you post pertaining to politics but you couldn't be more wrong if you think that our soldiers would follow orders to shoot civilians. Most people in the military know very well what our government really is doing, they stay in because they need the money to support their families or a stable job because of the horrible state of our economy.

And don't say "they could find a job if they wanted one, its no excuse" because that isn't always the case, some people aren't that lucky and need anything they can get even if its profiting defense contractors and big business. Don't make ignorant generalizations about our servicemen and women because they are more aware of what is happening then you might think.

I think it would just be helpful if the people are informed about things like the NDAA. You have no idea how many people I've talked to who have no idea about the NDAA or even what it contains.

The problem is that they shouldn't have the right to do it at all. It doesn't matter if you have nothing to hide. It's the principal of them being able to do it that I have a problem with. Same goes with detaining without due process, although this is worse because they don't even need proof. They can just say that you're a threat and you're off to Gitmo or wherever they would take you.

I don't feel that it's preventing anything at all or even helping. al Qaeda is our alleged enemy even though we're funding them and helping them overthrow Assad's regime in Syria. If they're our mortal enemy, as the media and the government want us to believe, why are we helping them overthrow a government? All of these laws are under the guise of "keeping us self" yet the government is funding (and even created) the "enemy" in al Qaeda. Are they really our enemy or are they just our enemy when we want them to be and we need a boogeyman to scare the American people into giving up more of their rights?

EDIT- The Supreme Court of the United States did no such thing. I think I know what you're referring too, but it wasn't the Supreme Court and it had no real impact, seeing as it was included in the 2013 version of the bill as well.

If that's the case, then they are purposely participating in the killing of people to profit defense contractors and big business, which is even worse than if they had simply been ignorant, or suckered in by the propaganda. At what point do we hold people morally accountable for their actions? And since when does the prospect of facing unemployment justify such horrors?

When you can prove thats why it happens, you say it is, many others dont think so, and no just cause you think it dont make it right.

It's always "the man" doing somehting else, It's not perfect, but anything good it dose is bad, and they do it for gain and are killing pepole behind closed doors

of course all of this is with out proof

Miltary is not perfect, but thats the same in evrey country

^ ^ wat :bigrimana

nobody wants an army that thinks for itself. bad for morale and leadership when they start questioning orders or the morality of their actions

no no, the ideal army just "follows orders"
