Re: 300 Blockbuster stores closing, 3000 jobs may be lost
I haven't seen a Blockbuster in ages, I thought they were are all closed down by now. The one in my town closed down about two or so years ago. We still got an Family Video and Movieland USA, but I never go into either one. Movieland is the only place I can think of in my area; that still has VHS tapes on their shelves besides Flea Markets. It's always a shame to hear about people losing their job. But working with Blockbuster, you had it know it was going to happen eventually.
I used to love to go to Blockbuster back in the late 90s and play Pokemon Snap.

I really don't care for renting movies, but it would be cool if there was a place where you vould rent games and play them for a few days instead of having to pay 50 bucks to get it and it stinks.

Gamefly.
And since this has basically turned into a "What has your Blockbuster Video turned into?" thread, ours is now a Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

I was in a Blockbuster a year or two ago, it was absolutely depressing. Shelves practically empty, one or two people walking around looking depressed. It was awful

South Park doesn't lie.
That's just the nature of the beast unfortunately. I remember when going out and renting a movie or two was like an event. Now with Netflix, and technology advances in general, it sort of takes the special feeling out of the event. However, it does make it like 10 times easier, so there you go.

Redbox, Netflix, online streaming, illegal downloads etc. It was inevitable.
Personally I preferred my old mom and pop video rental place because they had a wider selection of lesser known cult films and wrestling tapes.

Re: 300 Blockbuster stores closing, 3000 jobs may be lost
It's real sad I have always loved Blockbuster. Yes they were expensive but I always thought Blockbuster had the best movie selection of all the movie rental chains. I guess I shouldn't be surprised this is happening since people are so lazy these days. I actually liked venturing out of my house to the local video store to rent a movie. It's real sad thinking about all these companies I have grew up with are slowly going out of business.

Re: 300 Blockbuster stores closing, 3000 jobs may be lost
We had a simply massive Blockbuster. They had a great foreign movie selection, indie stuff nobody else was carrying -- and they were pretty open to suggestion about ordering things they hadn't planned to. They closed, and now their epic, massive store of awesome is a dentist's office.
It's a damn shame.

Sucks for them.
Lucky for me, I work at Walmart. No chance of any of these closing down.
