It's another nail in the coffin of physical media.

Dish Network Corp., which acquired Blockbuster in 2011, has now announced that it will close approximately 300 Blockbuster stores in the coming weeks, leaving just 500 U.S. locations still open.

"Much like record stores, the video rental store is another victim of the Internet. Ubiquitous and fast broadband, combined with the rise of rental services such as iTunes made this inevitable," Michael Gartenberg, Gartner Research Director, told ABC News.

I didnt even know Blockbusters was still around. I used to go to a place called Hollywood Videos around here but dont get how places like that could even exist anymore with Netflix,Hulu and Red Box around.

I remember when you could rent N64 consoles and games at Blockbuster. I never knew why they didn't rent other consoles as they came out. I also rented many PS2 games. Saved a lot of money not buying games I didn't like.

This reminds me of that South Park episode that Randy bought a Blockbuster

Harlan never even had a Blockbuster lol.. I don't think Hazard did either. It's a shame those people are losing their jobs though. I'm surprised Blockbuster lasted this long to be honest.

It's kinda sad how a machine made some rental places go out of business. I know it's more convenient, but I think some people are lazy.

It's more than just a machine though. I think NetFlix had alot to do with it.

Only thing I liked about blockbuster was how close it was to my house, so I could just walk there and buy games(they usually had games on release day, same as ebgames, bestbuy and so on), but now that they aren't around, it takes me like 20-30 mins just to get to closest store that sells games on release day.

You mean people actually had to walk in a store to rent movies at one point?
